TEN MILE - Carl R. 'Peanut' Bryant died Sunday, May 9, 1999, in an area hospital. He was 70.

Services will be today at 3 p.m. at Watts Bar Church of God with the Rev. Kenneth Goins, the Rev. Chris Pugh and others officiating.

Burial will be in Ten Mile cemetery.

Arrangements are by Bowers Funeral Home, Decatur, Tenn.

Chris Falk
CLEVELAND - Chris Frederick Falk died Saturday, May 8, 1999, in a local hospital. He was 59.

Survivors include two sons, Randy and Scott Falk; mother, Grace E. Falk, Cleveland; sister, Marleene Newton, Cleveland; several nieces and nephews.

A private graveside service for the family will be today at 3 p.m. in Sunset Memorial Gardens with Dr. Reed Wright officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements are by Ralph Buckner Funeral Home.

Loftin Harkleroad
WHITWELL - Loftin Harkleroad died Tuesday, May 11, 1999, in an area health care facility. He was 80.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Whitwell and the United Mine Workers of America.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Harkleroad; two sons, Wendell Harkleroad, Overland Park, Kan., and Wayne Harkleroad, Cookeville, Tenn.; brother, Bart Harkleroad, Flintstone, Ga.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of Whitwell, with the Rev. Bill Lassiter officiating.

Burial will be in Red Hill cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 5 to 8 p.m. at Hooper Funeral Home, Whitwell.

William Hughes
LOUDON - William H. 'Bill' Hughes died Monday, May 10, 1999, at his home. He was 73.

Mr. Hughes was retired from Viskase Corp. in Loudon and was an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Dora Mae Markwood Hughes; daughter, Janice Kelso, Loudon; three sons, Charles Hughes, Chattanooga, Tim Hughes, Madisonville, Tenn., and Roy Hughes, Loudon; a sister, Margaret Nicholson Tuck, Loudon; nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Services will be today at 7:30 p.m. at Loudon Funeral Home with the Rev. Joe Caldwell officiating.

Burial will be in Loudon County Memorial Gardens Thursday at 11 a.m.

Visitation will be today from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Hazel Jewett
SPRING CITY - Hazel L. Jewett died Monday, May 10, 1999, in an area health care facility. She was 89.

She was a homemaker and a member of First Presbyterian Church of Spring City. She was the widow of Floyd Jewett.

Survivors include a brother, Bill Lavender, Spring City; three sisters, Verna McPherson, Ringgold, Ga., Edna Meadows, Pine Knot, Ky., and Pauline McCulley, Spring City.

Services will be today at 2 p.m. at Vaughn Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Allison officiating.

Burial will be in Spring City cemetery.

Visitation will be today from noon until the time of service at the funeral home.

Eddie Johnson
NASHVILLE - Eddie James Johnson died recently at his home. He was 56.

Services will be today at First Baptist Church of South Englewood in Nashville.

Arrangements are by Smith Brothers Funeral Home, Nashville.

Thelma Lawson
CLEVELAND - Thelma Stiles Lawson died Monday, May 10, 1999, in a Chattanooga hospital. She was 77.

Survivors include her husband, Stanley Lawson, Cleveland; a son, David Lawson, Cleveland; and a sister, Mildred Melton, Chattanooga.

Graveside services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Jim Gibson officiating.

Visitation will be today from 6 to 9 p.m. at Grissom Funeral Home.

Billy Ledford
CLEVELAND - Billy 'Poss' Ledford died Monday, May 10, 1999, in an area hospital. He was 62.

He was the son of the late Charlie and Sally Howard Ledford.

Mr. Ledford retired from Westvaco after 20 years and was a member of Charity Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Gail Ledford; two daughters, Tamera Ledford and Robin Bailey, both of Cleveland; two sons, Billy and Jeff Ledford, Cleveland; two sisters, Helen Ledford, Kentucky, and Joann Blackwell, Polk County, Tenn.; four brothers, Melvin, Luther, Charles and Clyde Ledford, all of Polk County; and eight grandchildren.

Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Charity Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Tallent, the Rev. Arlin Brown and the Rev. Paul Brown officiating.

Burial will be in Dill cemetery.

The family will receive friends all day today at the Wildwood Chapel of Buckner-Rush Funeral Home and one hour before the service at the church.

Vinnie Lee
CLEVELAND - Vinnie Lee died Monday, May 10, 1999, in a local nursing facility. She was 92.

Mrs. Lee was a Baptist and the widow of Phil E. Lee.

Survivors include two sons, Ralph L. and John G. Lee, Cleveland; two daughters, Pauline Pickens and Vera Gentry, both of Cleveland; two sisters, Eunice Hicks, Alabama, and Naomi Pence, Chattanooga; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be Thursday at 1 p.m. in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with Jerry Arms officiating.

Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Ralph Buckner Funeral Home.

Bud Matthews
HARRIMAN - Bud Ray Matthews died Tuesday, May 11, 1999, in an area hospital. He was 51.

Arrangements will be announced by the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Beulah Miller
ATHENS - Beulah Lee Miller died Monday, May 10, 1999, in an area hospital. She was 77.

Mrs. Miller, a native of Tellico Plains, Tenn., had lived most of her life in McMinn County. She was a member of South Liberty Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Kenneth C. Miller; a son, Fred Miller, Tellico Plains; six sisters, Grace Williams and Violet Dillard, Maryville, Tenn., Juanita Foutz, Knoxville, Earsia Bryant, Calhoun, Tenn., Bobbie Morrow, Decatur, Tenn., and Ruth Axley, Athens; a brother, Alvin Axley, Athens; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be today at 8 p.m. at Ziegler Funeral Home with the Rev. C.W. Young officiating.

Burial will be Thursday at 10 a.m. in McMinn Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral.

Bobby Miller
WHITWELL - Bobby C. Miller II died Monday, May 10, 1999. He was 28.

Mr. Miller was an electrician for Wheland Foundry.

Survivors include a son, Bobby C. Miller III; his parents, Bobby C. and Frances Miller; brother, William F. Miller; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Miller, all of Whitwell.

Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. CDT at Hooper Funeral Home with the Rev. Sam Long officiating.

Burial will be in Griffith Creek cemetery.

Visitation will be today after 9 a.m. at the funeral home.

Walter Patterson
DAYTON - Walter Patterson died Monday, May 10, 1999, at his home. He was 85.

Mr. Patterson was retired from Combustion Engineering. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, a member of the Church of God in Mowbray, Tenn., and Daisy Masonic Lodge 706 F&AM.;

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Naomi Patterson.

Survivors include his wife, Sue Patterson, Dayton; two daughters, Jimmie R. Rogers, Dayton, and Marsha Diane Lasley, Hixson; two sons, Charles W. Patterson and Claude L. Patterson, both of Hixson; five sisters, Ruby Griffith and Betty Davis, both of Cleveland, Ohio, Ethel Walker, Beatrice Frederick and Louise Penney, all of Soddy-Daisy; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Williamson and Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Grant Chancey officiating.

Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be today from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Curtis Pittman
DAYTON - Curtis Wayne Pittman died Monday, May 10, 1999, in an area hospital. He was 89.

Mr. Pittman had worked in maintenance at Bryan College and was a Baptist.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Busker Pittman.

Survivors include a son, Kenneth Pittman, Blue Island, Ill.; daughter, Barbara Morgan, Matteson, Ill.; six grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Dixon, Ill.

Burial will be in Chapel Hill cemetery.

Arrangements are by Vanderwall Funeral Home, Dayton.

Irene Sage
DAYTON - Irene Maude Sage died Monday, May 10, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 85.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Henry Sage.

Survivors include a son, Brian Sage, Dayton; sister, Elaine Chamberlaine, Moosejaw, Canada; three brothers, John Stevens, England, Stan and Brin Stevens; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

A private service will be held for family members.

Arrangements are by Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home, Dayton.
