Ernestine S. Noel died Monday, April 12, 1999, at her home.

Arrangements will be announced by the Trammel Chapel of Hardwick & Sons Funeral Home.

James Reece
James H. Reece Jr. of East Ridge died Sunday, April 11, 1999, at his home. He was 60.

Services will be today at 12:30 p.m. at W.L. Wilson & Sons Funeral Home with brother Jim Lewis officiating.

Burial will be in Chattanooga National cemetery.

Nellie Stanford
Nellie Irene Stanford of Lupton City died Monday, April 12, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 87.

Services will be today at 2 p.m. at Williamson & Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Randy Bell officiating.

Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be after noon today at the funeral home.

Walter Turner
Walter Turner died Monday, April 12, 1999, in a local hospital. He was 12.

Arrangements will be announced by Taylor Funeral Home.

Obie Whitaker
Obie Whitaker died Saturday, April 10, 1999, in a local health care facility.

Arrangements will be announced by Franklin-Strickland Funeral Home.

Mattie Whitlow
Mattie Whitlow died Monday, April 12, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 85.

Arrangements will be announced by Franklin-Strickland Funeral Home.

Gloria Wilkins
Gloria Wilkins died Saturday, April 10, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 51.

Services will be today at 2 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home with Donnie Hickman officiating.

Burial will be in Highland Memorial Gardens.

Betty Wright
Betty J. Wright of Soddy-Daisy died Sunday, April 11, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 60.

Services will be today at 11 a.m. at Williamson & Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenneth Bolton officiating.

Burial will be at 2 p.m. EST in Adamsburg cemetery in Fort Payne.

Genevieve Beards
Genevieve I. Westfall Beards of Bluffs, Ill., and formerly of Chattanooga, died Tuesday, March 16, 1999, in a nursing home in Rushville, Ill.

She was in the class of 1947 at Griggsville High School and attended John Wood Community College in Pittsfield, Ill., as well as studying accounting at Edmondson College in Chattanooga.

She worked for American Legion Post 14 in Chattanooga for seven years and retired to Illinois.

Survivors include two daughters, Susan Potter, New Salem, Ill., and Janet Surrells, Chattanooga; a son, Roger K. Waite, Bluffs; a brother, Orville Westfall, Valley City, Ill.; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be today in Gray cemetery near New Salem.

Memorial contributions may be made to Pike County Cancer Society.

Arrangements are by Airsman-Hires Funeral Home, Pittsfield.

Shirley J. Branam
Shirley J. Branam died Wednesday, March 17, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 58.

She was a lifelong resident of the Chattanooga area and attended Charity Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Johnny Dennis.

Survivors include her husband, Rex E. Lewis; three daughters, Becky Richards, Americas, Ga., Teresa Jeffery, Scottsboro, Ala., and Lisa McKeel, Chattanooga; a son, Billy D. Branam, Hixson; a brother, Donald Dennis, Chattanooga; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A graveside service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park with the Rev. John Carter officiating.

Visitation will be today at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home.

John Brown
John Henry Brown of Tiftonia died Wednesday, March 17, 1999, at his home. He was 77.

Services will be today at 11:30 a.m. at the Coulter Chapel of Lane Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Blalock officiating.

Burial will be in Chattanooga National cemetery.

John Carter
John Edward Carter of Ooltewah died Wednesday, March 17, 1999, in a local nursing home. He was 88.

He was a native of Georgetown, Tenn., and was retired from the Hamilton County Nursing Home.

He was preceded in death by two grandsons, Mark and Steven Hill.

Survivors include his wife, Elise Harris Carter; three daughters, Chris Carden, Cleveland, Joyce Powell and Jean Hill, both of Chattanooga; a son, Charles Carter, Ooltewah; nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Rev. Virgil Nix and the Rev. W.L. Harbin officiating.

Burial will be in Ooltewah cemetery.

Visitation will be today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Troy Crutchfield
Troy Crutchfield of Fort Oglethorpe, formerly of the Burning Bush community, died Thursday, March 18, 1999, in a local health care facility. He was 93.

Arrangements will be announced by Heritage Funeral Home, Battlefield Parkway.

Dock Ervin
Dock Ervin died Monday, March 15, 1999, at his home. He was 79.

He was a member of New Vernon Grove Baptist Church and was retired from UTC.

Survivors include his wife, Carrie L. Ervin, Chattanooga; four sons, James, Thomas and Walter Ervin and Curtis Sands, all of Chattanooga; four daughters, Valarie Arnold, Teresa Moore, Dorothy L. Robinson and Vernell Westfield, all of Chattanooga; four sisters, Rosie Pickett, Gertrude Henderson and Mae Bell Yarbrough, all of Chattanooga, and Eula Barbar, Detroit; a brother, Freddie Ervin, Tacoma, Wash.; and several grandchildren.

Services will be Saturday at noon at Taylor Funeral Home with the Rev. Harris Toney officiating.

Burial will be in Highland Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be after noon today at the funeral home.

Margaret Farr
Margaret B. Farr of Soddy-Daisy died Monday, March 15, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 84.

Services will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom McGee officiating.

There will be no visitation at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memphis.

Hallie Gates
Hallie H. Gates of Rossville died Wednesday, March 17, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 94.

A native of Copper Hill, Tenn., she had lived most of her life in the Chattanooga and Rossville areas and attended Kirkman High School.

She was a licensed practical nurse who worked at both Campbell's Clinic and Women's Clinic for several years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George E. Gates.

Survivors include a daughter, Gertrude Alman, Rossville; 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Dodds Avenue Chapel of Turner Funeral Home with the Rev. Rick Smith officiating.

Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery.

Visitation will be today from 2 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

James Hale
James Edward Hale died Tuesday, March 16, 1999, in a local nursing home.

Survivors include two daughters, Kimberly Andrews, Knoxville, and Kelly Hale, Chattanooga; a son, Walter Williams, Nashville; a brother, Arthur Hale Jr., Jasper; and three grandchildren.

Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. CST at Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Hooker, Ga., with the Rev. Clifford Parrish officiating.

Burial will be in Hooker Community cemetery.

Arrangements are by Franklin-Strickland Funeral Home.

Lura Jackson
Lura Dell Jackson of Shaker Heights, Ohio, died Monday, March 15, 1999.

Survivors include her parents, Willie M. and Leonard Copeland, Chattanooga; two daughters, Sharon McKeldin Grant, Euclid, Ohio, and Harriet Jackson Goodwin, Hinesville, Ga.; one grandchild and one great-grandchild.

Services will be today at Cummings & Davis Funeral Home in East Cleveland, Ohio.

William Kendrick
William D. 'Bill' Kendrick of Fort Oglethorpe, Ga., died Wednesday, March 17, 1999, in a local hospital. He was 77.

He had lived in the Chattanooga area most of his life and was retired from Signal Mountain Cement Co. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Howard, Rossville, and Billie Coppinger, Chickamauga; a sister, Ella Marie Wall, Fort Oglethorpe; two brothers, Kenneth and Steve Kendrick, both of Rossville; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at W.L. Wilson & Sons Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park.

Visitation will be all day today at the funeral home.

Vicky Knight Vicky Sue Knight of Rossville died Tuesday, March 16, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 26.

Funeral services will be today at 1 p.m. at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home with the Rev. Eulas Hughes officiating.

Burial will be in Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park.
