Dena Smith
Dena Orilla Smith of Chickamauga, Ga., died Sunday, March 21, 1999, in a local nursing home. She was 89.

She was a member of Morton Memorial Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include a grandson, Tommy Holcombe, and two great-grandchildren, Amy and Brad Holcombe.

A graveside service will be today at 1 p.m. in Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park with Jack Waskey officiating.

Arrangements are by J. Avery Bryan Funeral Home in Chickamauga.

James Smith
James E. Smith of Signal Mountain died Friday, March 19, 1999, in Augusta, Ga. he was 48.

He was a member of the Church of God and was preceded in death by his father, James R. Smith.

Survivors include his mother, Margaret L. Yoder, Signal Mountain; one daughter, Charissa Waller, Huntsville, Ala.; one brother, Steve L. Smith, Signal Mountain; and two sisters, Peggy Harden, Soddy-Daisy, and Shirley Hawkins, Signal Mountain.

Services will be today at 1 p.m. at the Coulter Chapel of Lane Funeral Home with the Rev. Harley Morrison officiating.

Burial will be in Chattanooga National cemetery.

Mildred Trentham
Mildred B. Trentham of Hixson died Sunday, March 21, 1999, at a local health care facility. She was 82.

Services will be held today at 11 a.m. at Williamson & Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Joel Wood officiating.

Burial will be at Smyrna cemetery in Dayton, Tenn.

The family will receive friends today from 9 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Joseph Wagner
Joseph Arthur Wagner died Sunday, March 21, 1999, at his home. He was 67.

Mr. Wagner was a native of Hamilton, Ohio and had lived in Scottsboro, Ala., before moving to Chattanooga 15 years ago.

He was a member of East Brainerd Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and the Brainerd Masonic Lodge 738 F&AM.; He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served for 21 years, and was retired from TVA as a supervisor.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Wagner; daughter, Grace Ann Merritt, Huntsville, Ala.; a brother, Bobby Wagner; and a sister, Norma Brown, both of Hamilton.

The funeral will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, East Brainerd Road, with bishop Ludd officiating.

Burial will be in Chattanooga National cemetery.

Visitation will be today from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Kidney Foundation.

Edward Williams
Edward D. Williams died Saturday, March 20, 1999, in a local hospital. He was 76.

Services will be held today at 10 a.m. at Chattanooga Funeral Home, East.

Burial will be at Chattanooga National cemetery.

George Williams
George E. Williams died Sunday, March 21, 1999, at his home. He was 56.

Arrangements will be announced by Taylor Funeral Home.

Booker Young
Booker T. Young died Monday, March 22, 1999, at his home.

Arrangements will be announced by Taylor Funeral Home.

Fred Crisp
DECATUR, Tenn. - Fred Crisp died Sunday, March 21, 1999, at his home. He was 89.

Services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home in Athens, Tenn., with the Rev. Jimmy Lewis officiating.

Burial will be in Shiloh cemetery.

Walter Gladson
CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Walter J. Gladson died Saturday, March 20, 1999, in a local hospital. He was 77.

He was an Army veteran of World War II, a self-employed carpenter and a member of Victory Drive Church of God.

Survivors include his wife, Edna Montgomery Gladson; six sons, Walter Gladson Jr., Cleveland, Lee Gladson, Georgetown, Tommy, Eddie and Danny, and Ronnie Gladson, all of Cleveland; three brothers, Carl Gladson and J.C. Gladson, both of Cleveland, and Albert Gladson, Sweetwater, Tenn.; three sisters, Dorothy Freeman and Frances Bryson, both of Cleveland, and Margaret Hawkins, Ocala, Fla.; 20 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Services will be today at 11 a.m. at the Wildwood Chapel of Buckner-Rush Funeral Home with the Rev. Chris Oliver officiating.

Burial will be in Cedar Springs cemetery.

Clyde Gunter
MORRISON, Tenn. - Clyde Gunter died Saturday, March 20, 1999, in a Warren County, Tenn. hospital. He was 66.

A military service by VFW Post 5064 and American Legion Post 173 will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Love-Cantrell and Cope Funeral Home with Dean Northcutt officiating.

Burial will be in Garden of Memory.

Alton McGowen
RICEVILLE, Tenn. - Alton Eugene McGowen died Friday, March 19, 1999, at his home. He was 67.

Arrangements will be announced by Ziegler Funeral Home in Athens, Tenn.

Ida Morrow
NIOTA, Tenn. - Ida 'Marie' Morrow died Saturday, March 20, 1999, in a Sweetwater, Tenn., health care facility. She was 77.

She was a member of Valley View Baptist Church and the widow of David Lee Morrow.

Survivors include a daughter, Audrie Walden, Niota, Tenn.; three sisters, Orlean Shoemaker, Athens, Tenn., Iona Davis, Ooltewah, and Bettye Teague, Athens; three brothers, Robert Partain, Etowah, Tenn., M.C. Partain, Clearwater, Fla., and Lewis Partain, Athens.

Services will be today at 8 p.m. at Ziegler Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron Cook officiating.

Burial will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. in McMinn Memory Gardens.

Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Inez Scissom
FAYETTEVILLE, Tenn. - Inez Caudle Scissom, formerly of Coalmont, Tenn., died Sunday, March 21, 1999, in an area nursing home. She was 77.

She was a Methodist and was the widow of Fred Scissom.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be today at 11 a.m. in Coalmont cemetery with the Rev. Clayton Jones officiating.

There will be no visitation at Cumberland Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Scoggins
CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Mary F. Scoggins died Saturday, March 20, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 91.

She was a member of Ridgeview Baptist Church, the widow of Glenn Scoggins and the mother of the late James H. Scoggins.

Survivors include two daughters, Faye Queen, Cleveland, and Glenda Williams, Downey, Calif.; six sons, Paul, Wayne and David Scoggins, all of Cleveland, Billy Scoggins, Queen Creek, Ariz., Rodney Scoggins, Eugene, Ore., and Keith Scoggins, Bay City, Texas; two sisters, Mauvine Yoder and Lydia Long, both of Cleveland; 30 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be today at 2 p.m. at Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with the Rev. Luther Eslinger and the Rev. Paul Gregg officiating.

Burial will be in Lee cemetery.

Ruby Underdown
ATHENS, Tenn. - Ruby Bell Henley Underdown died Sunday, March 21, 1999, in an area nursing home. She was 81.

Mrs. Underdown was a member of Antioch Baptist Church and was a nursery worker for more than 30 years.

Survivors include her husband, Robert A. Underdown; three daughters, Sandra Melton, Wanoka Gore, and Robin Underdown, Athens; two sons, Larry A. Underdown, Oliver Springs, Tenn., and Dennis H. Underdown, Etowah, Tenn.; a sister, Lucy Smith, Etowah; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Ziegler Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenneth Elkins officiating.

Burial will be in Sullins cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

Kameron Bialecke
Kameron Thomas Bialecke of Hixson died Sunday, March 21, 1999, at his home. He was 2.

He attended Cross of Christ Lutheran Church and Cross of Christ Lutheran Church Day Care.

Survivors include his parents, Kenneth Thomas and Sherilyn Ann Wilson Bialecke; a sister, Lindsey Elizabeth Bialecke, Hixson; grandparents, Thomas Wilson, St. Joseph, Ill., Richard and Janet Beck, Decatur, Ill.; Patricia Bialecke, Manteno, Ill., and Thomas and Joyce Bialecke, Byron, Ill.; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Services will be today at 2 p.m. at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church with pastor Barry Hildebrandt officiating.

The family will receive friends two hours before the service at the church.

Arrangements are by Chattanooga Funeral Home, North.

William Booth
William H. Booth of Harrison died Monday, March 22, 1999. He was 82.

He was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church. He had worked for Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church and at All Saints Academy in maintenance.

Mr. Booth was a graduate of Central High School and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth B. Booth; a daughter, Patricia Copeland, Soddy-Daisy; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Jude Catholic Church with the Rev. Bob Hofstetter officiating.

Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery.

Visitation will be today from 4 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at Chattanooga Funeral Home, North.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
