Gussie Hodge
ETOWAH, Tenn. - Gussie Martin Hodge died Tuesday, March 30, 1999, in an area hospital. She was 85.

She was a native of Monroe County, a Baptist, the widow of Charles G. Martin and the mother of the late Sue Martin Hayes.

Survivors include four sons, Charles Martin, Etowah, A.A. 'Speck' Martin, Decatur, Tenn., Ted Martin, Athens, Tenn., and Fred Martin, Gary, Ind.; 16 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be today at 8 p.m. at the South Chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with the Rev. Doyle Lloyd officiating.

Burial will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in Maple Springs cemetery in Monroe County.

Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Roy Lewis
CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Roy Olen Lewis died Sunday, March 28, 1999, in an area hospital. He was 56.

Services will be today at 3 p.m. at Fike Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Sears and other ministers officiating.

Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

John Loden
SPRING CITY, Tenn. - John C. 'J.C.' Loden died Thursday, March 25, 1999, in a Chattanooga health care facility. He was 69.

He retired as a master sergeant from the U.S. Army after serving for 18 years, part of that during the Korean War.

He was a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, Willie Lea Gideon Loden; two sons, Tim Loden, Sacramento, Calif., and Michael Loden, Birmingham, Ala.; two daughters, Deborah Lee Jaegge, Chattanooga, and Pam Miller, Birmingham; three sisters, Lottie James, Grandview, Tenn., Ava Hritz, Crossville, Tenn., and Iva Teuber, Cambridge, Wis.; and eight grandchildren.

Services were Sunday at 2 p.m. at Vaughn Funeral Home with the Rev. Rick Smith and the Rev. Kenneth Goins officiating.

Burial was in Spring City cemetery with full military honors.

Eddie Mann
ROCKWOOD, Tenn. - Eddie Eskridge Mann died Sunday, March 28, 1999, in an Oak Ridge hospital. She was 69.

She attended Phillippi Primitive Baptist Church and was a retired dietitian from Hartford Hospital in Connecticut.

Survivors include five sisters, Lady Jackson, Cincinnati, Helen Smith, Rockwood, Opal Goodwin, Rome, N.Y., Patricia Taylor, Harriman, Tenn., and Fran McBride, Hartford, Conn.

Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Evans Mortuary with elder Rue Eskridge officiating.

Burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour before the service at the funeral home.

Dewey Meeks
TRACY CITY, Tenn. - Dewey 'Red' Meeks Jr. died Monday, March 29, 1999, at his home. He was 63.

He was employed by the State Highway Department.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia H. Meeks; a daughter, Sherry Regina Meeks, all of Tracy City; two sisters, Mary Jo Harris, Mountain City, Tenn., and Peggy Moore, Murfreesboro, Tenn.; and one granddaughter.

Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Foster & Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Rigsby officiating.

Burial will be in Wesley Chapel cemetery.

C.D. Melton
TRACY CITY, Tenn. - C.D. Melton died Thursday, March 30, 1999, in a Knoxville hospital. He was 80.

Arrangements will be announced by Cumberland Funeral Home, Tracy City.

William Ottman
ETOWAH, Tenn. - William H. 'Bill' Ottman died Monday, March 29, 1999, at his home. He was 70.

Mr. Ottman, a native of Ashland, Wis., and a resident of Etowah for 25 years, was retired from the Huber Corp. after 16 years as a mechanical engineer.

He was a Methodist and a 25-year member of the Etowah Rotary Club, having served as president twice. He was on the board of directors and was named a Paul Harris Fellow.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Ann Rader Ottman, and his father, Ralph E. Ottman.

Survivors include three daughters, Beth Anton, Ashburn, Va., Susan Ottman, Etowah, and Amy Ottman, Chattanooga; his mother, Maude A. Reiten, Etowah; and three grandchildren.

The funeral will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at the South Chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with the Rev. Joe Crockett officiating.

Entombment will be in the Green Hill Mausoleum.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Etowah Rotary Club, P.O. Box 300, Etowah, TN 37331 or the Bradley Hospice.

Alma Owens
GUILD, Tenn. - Alma Lee Garrett Owens died Tuesday, March 30, 1999, at her home. She was 80.

She was a native of Jamestown, Tenn., a member of Guild First Baptist Church and the Jasper Chapter Order of Eastern Star.

She was the widow of Ford Henry Owens and the mother of the late William Bruce Owens.

Survivors include two daughters, Carol Elizabeth Kisselburg, Murphy, N.C., and Jenny Lou Hines, Cleveland, Tenn.; two sons, Thomas Owens, Guild, Tenn., and David Owens, Montgomery, Ala.; a sister, Frances Garland, Knoxville; two brothers, John Garrett, Maryville, Tenn., and Ed Garrett, Sheffield, Ala.; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be Thursday at 1 p.m. CST at Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Ronnie Smith officiating.

Visitation will be Thursday from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. CST at Guild Baptist Church.

Arrangements are by Rogers Funeral Home, Jasper, Tenn.

Ernest Peardon
WHITESIDE, Tenn. - Ernest L. Peardon died Sunday, March 28, 1999, in a local nursing home. He was 72.

Services will be today at 1 p.m. EST at Williamson & Sons Funeral Home with minister Eddie Reachard officiating.

Burial will be in Pleasant Grove cemetery in Jasper, Tenn.

Visitation will be today from 4 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Clarence Rollins
WHITWELL, Tenn. - Clarence Edward Rollins died Sunday, March 28, 1999, at his home. He was 76.

Mr. Rollins retired from the Crane Co. and was a member of Griffith Creek First Congregational Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mary A. Rollins; a daughter, Rosalie Green, Whitwell; five sons, Clarence D., Joel E., Richard E. and Michael D. Rollins, all of Whitwell, and Gerald A. Rollins, Palmer, Tenn.; two brothers, William J. Rollins, Newark, Ohio, and Hershel O. Rollins, Whitwell; two sisters, Nellie M. Kirkendoll, Pulaski, Tenn., and Betty R. Fults, Palmer.

Services will be today at 2 p.m. at Griffith Creek First Congregational Methodist Church with the Rev. Ralph Shrum and the Rev. Tony King officiating.

Burial will be in Griffith Creek cemetery in Whitwell.

Arrangements are by Whitwell Memorial Funeral Home.

Charles Scruggs
SWEETWATER, Tenn. - Charles O. Scruggs died Saturday, March 27, 1999, at his home. He was 54.

Arrangements will be announced by M.D. Dotson & Sons Funeral Home.

Mae Snyder
BENTON, Tenn. - Mae Magalene Snyder died Monday, March 29, 1999, at her home. She was 68.

She was a member of Zion Baptist Church, served as an adult Sunday school teacher and was a member of the Womens Missionary Union.

She previously served as a volunteer with the Southern Baptist Mission Services Corps in Alaska, Montana, Oregon and Washington.

Survivors include her husband, Paul Z. Snyder, Benton; two daughters, Susan Yates, Benton, and Katy Carrasco, Morene Valley, Calif.; two sons, Walter Snyder, Balboa Island, Calif., and Gregory Snyder, Chattanooga; four sisters, Neary Duggan, Baltimore, Md., Emsey Cunningham, Francis Underwood and Cora Utt, all of Webster Springs, W.Va.; and seven grandchildren.

The funeral will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Zion Baptist Church with Dr. Steve Linginfelter officiating.

Burial will be in Benton Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Higgins Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Gideon Memorial Bible Fund, P.O. Box 151, Ocoee, TN 37361.

Alfred Stephens
KNOXVILLE - Alfred P. Stephens, formerly of Chattanooga and McMinn County, died Sunday, March 28, 1999, in an area hospital. He was 61.

Services will be today at 2 p.m. at Mount Harmony Baptist Church in Niota, Tenn., with the Rev. Stanley Hammond officiating.

Burial will be in Mount Harmony cemetery.

Arrangements are by Ziegler Funeral Home.

Edith Swafford
CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Edith Massengill Swafford died Sunday, March 28, 1999, in an area hospital. She was 85.

She was a member of the House of Faith Church of God in Christ.

Survivors include two sisters, Francis Looney, Athens, Tenn., and Lena Mae Andrews, Detroit; two brothers, Roy Massengill, Athens, and Willie Massengill, Charleston, Tenn.; several nieces and nephews.

Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Patton Funeral Home with the Rev. Gilford C. Hill officiating.

Burial will be in Fort Hill cemetery.

Visitation will be after noon today at the funeral home.

Martha Younger
DUNLAP, Tenn. - Martha Sue Brown Younger died Sunday, March 28, 1999, in a Chattanooga hospital. She was 59.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. CST at Putnam-Reed Funeral Home with the Rev. Clint Huth, brother Kirk Rogers and the Rev. Charles Conley officiating.

Burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery.

Visitation will be today from 4 to 8 p.m. CST at the funeral home.

Catherine Helton
Catherine 'Yvonne' Helton of Fort Oglethorpe died Monday, March 8, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 59.

Services will be today at 11 a.m. at W.L. Wilson and Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. B.B. Dawn officiating.

Burial will be in Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park.

Ruby Holland
Ruby Holland died Tuesday, March 9, 1999, in a local nursing home. She was 69.

Arrangements will be announced by Franklin-Strickland Funeral Home.
