Dedie McDaniel
Dedie Franklin McDaniel of Hixson died Saturday, Feb. 6, 1999, in a local health care facility. He was 72.

He was a Baptist and was retired from Ekco-Glaco.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Etta Marie McDaniel; five brothers, Ralph McDaniel, J.D.McDaniel, Clayton McDaniel, Clyde McDaniel and Johnny McDaniel; and one sister, Jessee Garrett.

Survivors include two daughters, Wanda Lee Penney, Hixson, and Kathy Marlene McDaniel, Ooltewah; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Williamson & Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Calvin Nunley and the Rev. Marvin McClendon officiating.

Burial will be at AD Smith cemetery in Dayton, Tenn.

The family will receive friends today from 5 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

John Milstead
John Milstead died Thursday, Feb. 4, 1999, at his home. He was 72.

He was a native of Birmingham and had lived in California before moving to Chattanooga nine years ago.

He was an engineer with Astec Industries and was a member of the Culver Legion of Honor and the Beta Phi Chapter of Purdue University.

He was an Episcopalian.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Milstead; four sons, Timothy Milstead, Hermosa Beach, Calif., Christopher Milstead, Omaha, Neb., Peter Milstead, Thousand Oaks, Calif., and Robert Milstead, Costa Mesa, Calif.; and nine grandchildren.

Services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at St. Martin's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Gary Callahan and the Rev. Michael Bonham officiating.

Burial will be at Conejo Mountain Memorial Park in Camarillo, Calif.

The family will receive friends Monday from 2 to 4 and from 7 to 9 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, East Brainerd Road.

Memorial contributions may be made to Resurrection Lutheran Church Building Fund, 817 Stone Crest Circle, Chattanooga, TN 37421 or to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, 1515 Holcomb Blvd., Houston, TX 77730.

Marie Mitchell
Marie Dick Mitchell of Clarksville, Tenn., formerly of Chattanooga, died Thursday, Feb. 4, 1999, at her home. She was 90.

Services will be today at 3 p.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Joel Huffstetler officiating.

Burial will be in Chattanooga Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends today in the Ava Wright Room of St. Paul's from 2 p.m. until the time of the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church.

Arrangements are by Wann Funeral Home.

Dewey Morris
Staff Sgt. Dewey Morris died Wednesday, Feb. 3, 1999, in a local hospital. He was 69.

Services will be Monday at noon at Greater Friendship Missionary Baptist Church with pastor Jimmie Ingram officiating.

Burial with full military honors will be in Chattanooga National cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

John Payne
John Payne died Thursday, Feb. 4, 1999. He was 39.

Services and burial will be in Detroit.

Local arrangements are by Lane Funeral Home, Coulter Chapel.

Martha Pinckard
Martha Elizabeth Bowers 'Lib' Pinckard, a longtime resident of Chattanooga, died Sunday, Jan. 17, 1999, at the home of her son in Kennesaw, Ga. She was 87.

She was a member of Brainerd United Methodist Church.

She graduated from Sullins College in Bristol, Va., and became the youngest elementary school teacher in Tennessee. Focusing on elementary education, she taught for several years in the Carter County system

She later became a bookkeeper for Paul A. Chapman & Associates in Chattanooga.

She was the widow of Wendell L. Pinckard.

Survivors include three sons, Lamar Pinckard, Port Angeles, Wash., Timothy Pinckard, Windsor, Conn., and Jeffrey Pinckard, Kennesaw, Ga.; one sister, Jane B. Lang, Chattanooga; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Monday, April 5, at 2 p.m. in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens in Cleveland, Tenn.

An additional memorial service will be held at Happy Valley Memorial Park in Elizabethton, Tenn., Sunday, Feb. 14.

Memorial contributions may be directed to education.

Ollis Pringle
Ollis 'Big Ollie' Pringle died Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999, in a local nursing home. He was 74.

Services will be today at 2:30 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home with the Rev. Melvin Jordan officiating.

Burial will be Monday at 10 a.m. in Greenwood cemetery.

D.J. Sharp
Darren Dewayne 'D.J.' Sharp of East Lake died Saturday, Feb. 6, 1999, in a Nashville hospital. He was 9.

He was a student at East Lake Elementary School.

Arrangements will be announced by W.L. Wilson & Sons Funeral Home in Fort Oglethorpe.l

Mattie Shropshire
Mattie Jackson Shropshire died Wednesday, Feb. 3, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 64.

Survivors include two daughters, Gloria Ann Coleman and Rosalyn Denise Coleman; four sons, Willie James Shropshire, Gregory Cleve Moten, Joe Frank Williams and Dewayne Shropshire, Chattanooga; three brothers, Elder Sims, Eddie Lee Jackson and Ira Jackson, Chattanooga; one sister, Willie Lee Belcher, Chattanooga; 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home with pastor Kevin Adams Sr. officiating.

Burial will be in Highland Memorial Gardens.

Katherine Smith
Katherine Haley Smith of Rossville died Thursday, Feb. 4, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 81.

Services will be today at 2 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, Battlefield Parkway, with the Rev. Jeff Daniels and the Rev. Curtis Shepherd officiating.

Burial will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens, South.

James Wilson
James Allen Wilson of Soddy-Daisy died Thursday, Feb. 4, 1999, in a local hospital. He was 61.

Services will be today at 2 p.m. at Williamson & Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Chandler and the Rev. Edward Williams officiating.

Burial will be in Varner cemetery.

Thomas Woods
Thomas DeJuan Woods Jr. died Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999, in an Oklahoma City hospital. He was 36.

Services will be today at 2 p.m. at Tucker Baptist Church with the Rev. Gary Hathaway officiating.

Burial will be in Highland Memorial Gardens.

Arrangements are by Taylor Funeral Home.

Marie Alexander
Marie Cunningham Alexander, formerly of Lookout Mountain, died Monday, Feb. 1, 1999, at her home in Orange Park, Fla. She was 76.

Services will be today at 10 a.m. at the Coulter Chapel of Lane Funeral Home with the Rev. Perry Scruggs officiating.

Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Catherine Barnes
Catherine Barnes of Houston, Texas, and formerly of Chattanooga died Monday, Feb. 1, 1999, in a hospital there. She was 81.

She attended Notre Dame High School. She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and had worked for Loveman's in East Ridge for a number of years.

She was the widow of Daniel Joseph Barnes.

Survivors include two daughters, Agnes Barnes Donnelly and Cathy Barnes Manzer, both of Houston; three brothers, Glen Patterson, Ringgold, Paul Patterson, Chattanooga, and Raymond Patterson, Georgia; two sisters, Betty Bailey, Ringgold, and Juanita Brewer, Chattanooga; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at the Dodds Avenue Chapel of Turner Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Nolan officiating.

Burial will be in Chattanooga National cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Donald Buckner
Donald Gene 'Don' Buckner Sr. of Chickamauga died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 1999, in an area hospital. He was 52.

He was an employee of Roper and was a son of the late Lonnie and Nannie Stewart Buckner.

Survivors include is wife, Rhonda Buckner; two daughters, Tamara Evans, Trion, Ga., and Dora Madaris, Chickamauga; two sons, Donald G. Buckner Jr., Chickamauga, and David Edwards, LaFayette; two sisters, Joann Elkins, Port Orange, Fla., and Leatha Davey, Lakewood, Wis.; one brother, Frank Buckner, Ripley, Tenn.; and five grandchildren.

Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at LaFayette Funeral Home with the Rev. Grey Robinson officiating.

Visitation will be today after 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mary Butler
Mary Karen Butler, a native of Chattanooga and a resident of Rossville for the past 25 years, died Monday, Feb. 1, 1999, in an area hospital. She was 50.

Mrs. Butler attended the Living Covenant Church and was the daughter of the late Thomas and Rachel David Vail.

Survivors include her husband, three sons, three sisters, two brothers, and five grandchildren.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at J. Avery Bryan Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Linder officiating.

Burial will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens, South.

Visitation will be today from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Earl Darr
Dr. Earl E. Darr, a resident of Alexian Village, Signal Mountain, died Monday, Feb. 1, 1999, in a local hospital. He was 92.

Funeral services and burial will be Saturday in Chicago.

Local arrangements are by the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
