Odom Simmons
SPRING CITY, Tenn. - Odom Simmons died Saturday, Feb. 20, 1999, in an Athens, Tenn., hospital. He was 78.

Services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Vaughn Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Ivey officiating.

Burial will be in Ewing cemetery.

Delano Skipper
CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Delano R. Skipper died Saturday, Feb. 20, 1999, in a local hospital. He was 65.

He was a veteran of the Korean conflict serving in the U.S. Marines. He was a registered pharmacist and owned and operated Skipper's Pharmacy in Cleveland for 30 years.

He was a member of Westwood Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Hill Skipper; two daughters, Sandra Eldridge and Beth Davis, Cleveland; one sister, Jimmie Sue Bell, Ringgold, Ga.; one brother, James D. Skipper, Etowah.

Services will be today at 1 p.m. at Fike Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Fox officiating.

Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens with military honors.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 519 E. Fourth St., Chattanooga, TN 37401.

Ernest Young
WHITESIDE, Tenn. - Ernest Arvil Young died Saturday, Feb. 20, 1999. He was 75.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Junior Young, and one sister, Gertrude Huff.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Young; one sister, Betty Cole, Whiteside; and two brothers, Arnold Young, Jasper, Tenn., and Chester Young, Whiteside.

Services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Sequatchie Valley Memorial Funeral Home With the Rev. Luke Williams and the Rev. James Ramsey officiating.

Burial will be in Sardis cemetery, Victoria, Tenn.

Visitation will be today from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Kathryn Ashburn
Kathryn E. Dye Ashburn died Thursday, Feb. 18, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 59.

She was a native and longtime resident of the Chattanooga area, and attended Lakeview Church of God.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Ashburn Sr., and a sister, Shirley Wells.

Survivors include two daughters, Deloris James, Ringgold, Ga., and Susan Wilson, Chattanooga; three sons, Darrell Mathis, Buford, Ga., and Ray Ashburn Jr., and Rodney Ashburn, both of Spring City, Tenn.; one sister, Louise Mooney, Chattanooga; and 11 grandchildren.

Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Rev. Dale Ashburn officiating.

Burial will be in Chattanooga Memorial Park.

Visitation will be today from 2 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Dakota Beason
Dakota Raymond Beason, infant son of Tommy Beason and Lisa Drown of East Brainerd, died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, in a local hospital.

Other survivors include his grandparents, Beth Ann Richard, Roanoke, Va., Greg Legeytt, Brunswick, Maine, and Ida Beason, Soddy-Daisy.

There will be no service or visitation.

Arrangements are by the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home.

Gladys Bell
Gladys Gouldy Pinson Bell of Red Bank died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 1999, at the home of her daughter. She was 89.

Services will be today at 1 p.m. at White Oak Baptist Church with Dr. John Franklin officiating.

Burial will be in Chattanooga Memorial Park.

Visitation will be today one hour prior to the service at the church.

Arrangements are by the Coulter Chapel of Lane Funeral Home.

John Bettis
John Weldon Bettis of Lithia, Fla., died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 1999, at his home. He was 86.

Funeral services will be today at 2 p.m. at W.L. Wilson & Sons Funeral Home with Steve Bettis and Steve Hooper officiating.

Entombment will be in Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park mausoleum.

Flora Branum
Flora Elizabeth Branum of Soddy-Daisy died Thursday, Feb. 18, 1999, at her home. She was 69.

Services will be today at 3 p.m. at Williamson & Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Clankston Freeman officiating.

Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Alvin Burns
Alvin M. Burns of Hixson died Thursday, Feb. 18, 1999, in a local hospital. He was 70.

Services will be today at 2 p.m. at the Highway 58 Chapel of Turner Funeral Home with the Rev. Jesse Carl Nolan, the Rev. Guerney Beard, and the Rev. Jimmy Graves officiating.

Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be today from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Ronald Coleman
Ronald 'Boo' Coleman Jr. died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999, at his home. He was 29.

Arrangements will be announced by Taylor Funeral Home.

Mattie Davis
Mattie Davis died Thursday, Feb. 18, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 88.

Arrangements will be announced by Franklin-Strickland Funeral Home.

Betty Dicorato
Elizabeth 'Betty' Dicorato of Champaign, Ill., died Thursday, Feb. 18, 1999 in a hospital in Urbana, Ill.

Survivors include four sons, Michael Dicorato, Dallas, Scott Dicorato, Chattanooga, Ryan and Brandon Dicorato, Champaign; two daughters, Deborah Dicorato, Dallas, and Christine Dicorato, Champaign; three brothers, John Goodwin, Stoneham, Mass., Keith Goodwin, Gloucester, Mass., and Tom Goodwin, Hampton, N.H.; one sister, Pat Tedeschi, Bayonet Point, Fla.

Services will be today at Morgan Memorial Funeral in Savoy, Ill.

Grace Dodson
Grace Dodson died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999, in Huntsville, Ala. She was 76.

Services will be today at noon at Olivet Baptist Church with pastor Kevin Adams officiating.

Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery.

Arrangements are by the Avondale Chapel of Franklin-Strickland Funeral Home.

Marie Ford
Marie Ford of Huntsville, Ala., and the sister of Dorothy Oliver of Chattanooga, died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 1999, in a hospital there. She was 53.

Arrangements will be announced by Franklin-Strickland Funeral Home.

Mildred Grace
Mildred Florine Grace died Friday, Feb. 19, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 71.

Arrangements will be announced by Franklin-Strickland Funeral Home.

James Hardie
James Arthur Hardie of East Ridge died Friday, Feb. 19, 1999, at his home. He was 77.

The Fort Oglethorpe native was a life member and past post commander of V.F.W. Post 1289, and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Doris M. Ketner Hardie; one son, James R. Hardie, Soddy-Daisy; one daughter, Donna Neeley, Ooltewah, Tenn.; one sister, Sara K. White, Harrison; and three grandchildren.

Graveside services will be Monday at 9:30 a.m. in Chattanooga National cemetery with the Rev. Bob Gilbert officiating.

Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

Tania Henley
Tania Lee Henley of East Brainerd died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 1999. She was 21.

Services will be today at 2 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, East Brainerd Road.

Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery.

Mark Kay
Mark James Kay of Rossville died Friday, Feb. 19, 1999, in a local nursing home. He was 84.

Arrangements will be announced by the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home.

Donald Long
Donald Lee Long Jr. died Thursday, Feb. 18, 1999, at his home. He was 47.

He was a lifelong resident of the Chattanooga area, and a member of Highland Park Baptist Church.

Survivors include his father, Donald Lee Long Sr., Chattanooga; one son, Donald Lee Long III; one daughter, Donna Long; and three grandchildren.

There will be no service or visitation. Burial will be private.

Arrangements are by the Highway 58 Chapel of Turner Funeral Home.

Josephine Nowlin
Josephine N. Nowlin of Lupton City, died Thursday, Feb. 18, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 91.

She was a lifelong resident of the Chattanooga area and was a member of Eastdale Baptist Church.

She was an active member of the Senior Neighbors program and the Boynton Terrace complex.

Early in life she was employed by Standard-Coosa-Thatcher and was involved in various North Chattanooga residential programs.

Survivors include two nieces, Anna Mae Foster, Chattanooga, and Mrs. Ralph Wynne of Atlanta; one nephew, Benjamin F. Nowlin, Signal Mountain.

Graveside services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at Beason cemetery with the Rev. Ralph Wynne officiating.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Dodds Avenue Chapel of Turner Funeral Home.
