Melvin McConnell
Melvin McConnell of Rossville died Sunday, Jan. 31, 1999. He was 71.

Arrangements will be announced by Crombie-Pinkard Funeral Service.

Michael McDowell
Michael David McDowell died Sunday, Jan. 31, 1999, in a local hospital. He was 39.

Services will be today at 11:30 a.m. at the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Mason and the Rev. Ronald McDowell officiating.

Burial will be in Johnston cemetery in Georgetown.

Albyne McKenzie
Albyne F. McKenzie died Monday, Feb. 1, 1999, at the home of her daughter. She was 84.

Services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the Dodds Avenue Chapel of Turner Funeral Home with minister Ronnie Missildine officiating.

Burial will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be today from 3 to 6:30 at the funeral home.

Anthony Micale
Anthony J. Micale died Sunday, Jan. 31, 1999, in a local hospital. He was 90.

Formerly of Linden, N.J., he was a master plumber and retired owner of Anthony J. Micale Heating and Plumbing Co. and was a member of St. Elizabeth Church, both in Linden.

He attended St. Jude Catholic Church in Chattanooga.

Survivors include his wife, Madeline Micale; two sons, Anthony J. Micale Jr., St. Louis, and Paul Micale, Soddy-Daisy; three grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Services will be today at 3:30 p.m. at the Coulter Chapel of Lane Funeral Home with the Rev. Patrick Brownell officiating.

The family will receive friends today from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

The body will be taken to Werson's Funeral Home in Linden. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Elizabeth Church.

Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery in Linden.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Michael Myers
Michael John Myers died Monday, Feb. 1, 1999, in a local nursing home. He was 66.

He was a graduate of Christian Brothers Academy in Albany, N.Y., and Siena College in Loudonville, N.Y. He was a communicant of the Catholic church and was employed as a bartender for many years at Leonard's, JoJo's and Mayo's Lounge in Chattanooga.

He was a son of the late Ralph T. and Anne Welch Myers.

Survivors include two sisters, Mary M. Howard, Skaneateles, N.Y., and Ruth M. Gwinn, Syracuse, N.Y.; and one brother, James Myers, Broken Arrow, N.Y.

Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Nolan officiating.

Burial will be in Chattanooga National cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.

Pete Parson
Gloy A. 'Pete' Parson, retired from Whitaker Transportation, died Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999, in a local hospital. He was 78.

The funeral will be today at 1 p.m. at the Coulter Chapel of Lane Funeral Home with Dr. Fred A. Steelman and the Rev. Bert Jones officiating.

Burial will be in Chattanooga Memorial Park.

Hugh Peacock
Hugh C. Peacock Sr. of East Brainerd died Sunday, Jan. 31, 1999, in an area health care facility. He was 80.

Services will be today at 11 a.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, East Brainerd Road, with the Rev. Floyd Roebuck and the Rev. Barton Thigpen officiating.

Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery.

Kimberly Peels
Kimberly Suzanne Peels of Hixson died Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999, at her home. She was 39.

Services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, East Brainerd Road.

Burial will be at Chattanooga Memorial Park.

Ollie Pringle
Ollie 'Big Ollie' Pringle died Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999, in a local nursing home.

Arrangements will be announced by Taylor Funeral Home.

Floyd Raines
Floyd Lee Raines died Monday, Feb. 1, 1999, in a local hospital. He was 52.

He was a native and lifelong resident of the Chattanooga area, a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, and was employed as a carpenter with Matthews Construction Co.

He attended the Church of God and was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Raines; his father, Terrell Lee Raines Sr.; and a brother, Jerry L. Raines.

Survivors include one daughter, Joy Deann Raines, Washington; three sons, Charles Raines, Birmingham, James R. Raines, Chattanooga, and Donald L. Raines, Tunnel Hill, Ga.; his mother, Dorainder Raines, East Ridge; four sisters, Betty Ann Chapman, Tiftonia, Gail Moorman, Harrison, Sharlene Brogdon, Manchester, Tenn., and Carolyn Scott, Crossville, Tenn.; one brother, Terrell L. Raines Jr., Rossville; and several grandchildren.

Services will be Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home with the Rev. Gene Butler officiating.

Burial will be in Chattanooga National cemetery.

Visitation will be all day today at the funeral home.

Ida Rhodes
Ida Marie Rhodes, of Soddy-Daisy, died Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999, in a local health center. She was 85.

She was a homemaker and a member of Jasper Church of God.

She was the widow of Virgil T. Rhodes.

Survivors include one son, E.T. Rhodes, Whitwell, Tenn.; three daughters, Thelma Rednower, Chattanooga, Betty Womack, Sequatchie, and Mary Phillips, Hixson; two sisters, Bertha Allen, Dallas, Texas, and Catherine Riddles, Indianapolis; one brother, Luther Colvin, Fort Payne, Ala.; 15 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be today at 11 a.m. at Sequatchie Valley Memorial Funeral Home with the Rev. Roger Webb officiating.

Burial will be in Harris cemetery in New Hope, Tenn.

Ernest Slatton
Ernest Gilbert Slatton of Largo, Fla., died there Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999. He was 77.

He was a retired hospital administrator and attended the Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Katherine Giddens Slatton and a daughter, Nancy Godown.

Survivors include one son, E. Gilbert Slatton Jr., Largo, Fla.; one sister, Gerry Slatton Poole, Signal Mountain; seven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be today at 11:30 a.m. in Chattanooga Memorial Park.

Visitation will be today from 10 to 11 a.m. at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

Nancy Smith
Nancy R. Smith died Monday, Feb. 1, 1999, at her home. She was 63.

Arrangements will be announced by Williamson & Sons Funeral Home.

James Thomas
James Matthew Thomas died Friday, Jan. 29, 1999, at his home. He was 63.

He was a graduate of Howard High School and a veteran of the Korean War.

He was a Baptist and was formerly employed at Chattanooga State Technical College, Interstate office building and was the former operator of the Jazz Corner.

He was best known for his artistic ability and was a cartoonist for the Chattanooga Observer, under the pen name Semaj.

While a student at Howard, he painted a portrait of principal William J. Davenport, which hung in the halls of the school for many years.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Raymond and Edna Settles, and a brother, Clarence Huling.

Survivors include his daughter, Tara Thomas; one sister, Elzia Johnson; two brothers, Gerald Johnson and Raymond Thomas; and two grandchildren.

Services will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the Avondale Chapel of Franklin-Strickland Funeral Home with the Rev. Kevin Adams and the Rev. William H. Ryan officiating.

Burial will be in Chattanooga National cemetery.

Visitation will be today from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Charles Walker
Charles Edward Walker died Sunday, Jan. 31, 1999, at his home. He was 78.

Graveside services will be conducted today at 1 p.m. in Hamilton Memorial Gardens, with the Honorable Sam Payne officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Kidney Foundation, 6110 Executive Blvd., Suite 1010, Rockville, MD 20852.

Arrangements are by the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

Minnie Watson
Minnie Marie Watson of Chickamauga died Sunday, Jan. 31, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 82.

She was a Baptist, the widow of Bill Watson and the mother of the late Emma Marie Watson and Jessie James Watson.

Survivors include three sons, Pete, Thomas and Rufford Watson, all of Chickamauga; one daughter, Clara Sue Madaris, Cypress Hills, Fla.; 15 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at J. Avery Bryan Funeral Home in Chickamauga with Jimmie Thomason officiating.

Burial will be in Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park.

Polly Williams
Polly P. Williams died Sunday, Jan. 31, 1999, at her home. She was 87.

Graveside services will be today at 1 p.m. at Chattanooga Memorial Park with the Rev. Bill Mooney officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.

The family will receive friends today from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

Thomas Woods
Thomas DeJuan Woods Jr. died Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999, in an Oklahoma City, Okla., hospital. he was 38.

Arrangements will be announced by Taylor Funeral Home.
