Joyce Rumba
CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Joyce Faye Beck Rumba died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 51.

Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Mount Carmel Baptist Church with brother Tom Rumba officiating.

Burial will be in Mount Carmel cemetery.

Visitation will be today from 6 to 9 p.m. at Fike Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mount Carmel Baptist Church, 7619 Blue Springs Rd., S.E., Cleveland, TN 37311.

Kenneth Schenk
CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Kenneth D. 'Dru' Schenk died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 1999, in a Chattanooga hospital. He was 54.

Memorial services will be today at noon at OLPH Catholic Church with the Rev. Mike Nolan officiating.

Private burial will be at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Chattanooga Symphony & Opera Association.

Arrangements are by the Dodds Avenue Chapel of Turner Funeral Home.

Mary Shaver
DAYTON, Tenn. - Mary Emma Shaver died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 1999, at her home. She was 82.

She was retired from Oster Corporation after many years, and was the widow of David Shaver.

Survivors include one son, Owen Shaver, Dayton, Tenn.; and two grandchildren.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are by Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home, Dayton, Tenn.

Dorothy Wright
DAYTON, Tenn. - Dorothy G. Wright died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999, at her home. She was 65.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Kennedy Funeral Home, in Elkin, N.C.

Burial will be in Crestwood Memorial Gardens.

Local arrangements are by Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home, Dayton.

Dakota Beasner
Dakota Raymond Beasner of East Brainerd died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, in a local hospital.

Arrangements will be announced by the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home.

Gladys Bell
Gladys Gouldy Pinson Bell of Red Bank died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 1999, at the home of her daughter. She was 89.

She was a member of White Oak Baptist Church, the choir, LLL Club, Woman's Missionary Union, and taught Sunday school.

She was a member of the Cadek Choral Society, Scenic Land Chapter of the American Business Women's Association, the Betsy Ross Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star.

Mrs. Bell served as president of the Tennessee State Dental Assistants' Association and was a member of the Board of Trustees of the American Dental Association.

She was a bookkeeper and office manager for Cooley's Fine Clothing for 22 years.

She was widowed by both Leonard Curtis Pinson and Robert Anderson Bell, and was also preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Pinson Miller; and stepdaughters, Robbie Mae Bell, Dorothy Carden and Frances Ellis.

Survivors include one daughter, Patricia Pinson Hyde, Hixson; stepson, James L. Bell Sr., Hixson; five grandchildren, one great-grandson; 11 step grandchildren and 19 step great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at White Oak Baptist Church with Dr. John Franklin officiating.

Burial will be in Chattanooga Memorial Park.

Visitation will be today from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Coulter Chapel of Lane Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.

John Bettis
John Weldon Bettis of Lithia, Fla., died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 1999, at his home. He was 86.

Formerly of Rossville, Ga., he was a retiree from Tennessee Paper Mills and a World War II Army veteran.

He was a Baptist, and was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jane Bettis and a son, Zeno Bettis.

Survivors include four sons, John W. 'Dub' Bettis Jr., and Michael Steven Bettis, Rossville, Daniel L. Bettis, Mesquite, Texas, and Grady E. Bettis, Lithia; two daughters, Wilma Forster, Rossville, and Ruby Virginia Hooper, Lithia; two sisters, Mary R. Stanley and Doris Brashear, Rossville; 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at W.L. Wilson & Sons Funeral Home with Steve Bettis and Steve Hooper officiating.

Entombment will be in Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park mausoleum.

Visitation will be today after 5 p.m. at the funeral home.

Flora Branum
Flora Elizabeth Branum of Soddy-Daisy died Thursday, Feb. 18, 1999, at her home. She was 69.

She was a retired dispatcher from the Soddy-Daisy Police Department and a Baptist.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Shorty Branum, her parents, Robert and Hazel Jett, and two brothers, Bill and Joseph Jett.

Survivors include one daughter, Kay Brown; two sons, Allen and Bud Branum, all of Soddy-Daisy; four sisters, Catherine Lee, Decatur, Charlotte Branum, Elma Mincey and Evelyn Garrison, all of Soddy-Daisy; six grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Services will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Williamson & Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Clankston Freeman officiating.

Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be today from 2 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Harold Buffington
Harold Leon 'H.L.' Buffington of East Brainerd died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 1999, in a local hospital. He was 75.

Services will be today at 10 a.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, East Brainerd Road, with minister John Cupp and minister Gene Arnold officiating.

Burial will be in Lakehills cemetery in Trenton.

Visitation will be today from 5 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Alvin Burns
Alvin M. Burns of Hixson died Thursday, Feb. 18, 1999, in a local hospital. He was 70.

He was a native and lifelong resident of Chattanooga, a member of Lakeway Baptist Church, Signal Mountain Masonic Lodge and was a retired maintenance supervisor for Harrison Bay State Park.

Mr. Burns worked for Combustion for 21 years. He was an avid gospel music singer and choir director, having directed choirs for various area churches including Corinth, Mount Carmel, Chamberlain Heights, Pleasant Hill and John's Memorial Baptist.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Helen Burns; one daughter, Jackie Emery, and two sisters, Willadean Burns and Ann McAlister.

Survivors include one son, Thomas Burns, Hendersonville, Tenn.; two daughters, Mary Thompson, Harrison, Jo Doty, McDonald, Tenn.; one brother, Donnie C. Burns, Chattanooga; three sisters, Katherine Denton, Hixson, Martha Tipton, Jasper, and Becky Elsea, Hixson; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Highway 58 Chapel of Turner Funeral Home with the Rev. Jesse Carl Nolan, the Rev. Guerney Beard, and the Rev. Jimmy Graves officiating.

Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be today from 6 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Joretta Clark
Joretta Clark of Rossville died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 67.

Services will be today at 2:30 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, Battlefield Parkway with the Rev. Sam Sharp officiating.

Burial will be in Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park.

Ronald Coleman
Ronald 'Boo' Coleman Jr. died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999, at his home. He was 29.

Arrangements will be announced by Taylor Funeral Home.

Alice Cowan
Alice Cowan died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, at her home.

Graveside services will be today at noon at Highland cemetery with the Rev. Lamar Gilbert officiating.

Arrangements are by the Avondale Chapel of Franklin-Strickland Funeral Home.

Grace Dodson
Grace Dodson died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999, in Huntsville, Ala. She was 76.

She was a member of Olivet Baptist Church and its senior choir.

Survivors include her daughter, Lillie M. Nobles; two brothers, Charlie and John Stephens; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be Saturday at noon at Olivet Baptist Church with pastor Kevin Adams officiating.

Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery.

Visitation will be today from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Avondale Chapel of Franklin-Strickland Funeral Home.

Claudine Flannigan
Claudine Kimes Flannigan died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 86.

She was a member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Columbia, Tenn., and was a well-known artist of oil paintings.

She was the widow of Joe Flannigan.

Survivors include her daughter, Mary Lee Hernandez, Apison, Tenn.; two grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Services will be today at 10 a.m. at Oakes and Nichols Funeral Home in Columbia.

Local arrangements are by Heritage Funeral Home, East Brainerd Road.

Marie Ford Marie Ford of Huntsville, Ala., and the sister of Dorothy Oliver of Chattanooga, died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 1999, in a hospital there. She was 53.

Arrangements will be announced by Franklin-Strickland Funeral Home.
