Tennessee, U.S., Delayed Birth Records, 1869-1909
Louise Patterson
Louise M. Patterson died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1998, at the home of her daughter in Dayton, Tenn. She was 92.

Mrs. Patterson lived in Red Bank prior to moving to Dayton. She was a member of Harrison United Methodist Church and was the widow of W.H. Patterson.

Survivors include her daughters, Elwanda Terrill, Chattanooga, and Joan Sharp, Dayton; son, Billy C. Patterson, Providence, Tenn.; eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends today from 4 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Lonnie Powell
Lonnie 'Bullie' Powell of Chattanooga died Monday, Nov. 2, 1998, in a local nursing home. She was 51.

She was a member of Greater Park City Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Yolanda Sparks, Dayton, Tenn.; son, Wuilliam Sparks Sr., Chattanooga; three stepsons, Randy Cleveland, Jr., and Larry Powell, Summerville, Ga.; sisters, Josephine Benford, Chattanooga, Gloria Little and Jeanette Sparks, Rossville, Marie Herman, Newark, N.J., and Mary Womble, Dalton, Ga.; brother, J.W. Sparks Jr., Rossville; and nine grandchildren.

Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Greater Park City Baptist Church with the Rev. Richard Hewlett officiating.

Burial will be in Floral Hill cemetery, Summit, Tenn.

Visitation will be Friday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the church, and one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

Arrangements are by Willis Funeral Home, Dalton.

Katie Sheffield
Katie Mae Sheffield died Friday, Oct. 30, 1998, at her home. She was 76.

Arrangements will be announced by Franklin-Strickland Funeral Home.

Russell Slocum
Russell Lowell Slocum of Ooltewah died Sunday, Nov. 1, 1998, at his home. He was 88.

A native of Los Angeles, he was a longtime resident of California, before moving to Chattanooga recently. He was a member of LaCrescenta Seventh-day Adventist Church and was retired from the Lockheed Corporation, where he was an aircraft engineer. He was a star of track and field at Glendale High School, where he held several records. He also tried out for the Olympics. He was the widower of Lucretia Vance Slocum.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara VanOrnam of Ooltewah, and Elizabeth Baerg of LaSelva Beach, Calif.; a son, Donald Gary Slocum of New Market, Va.; a sister, Frances Randal of Port Orford, Ore.; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. PST at Wee Kirk Chapel of Forest Lawn cemetery in Glendale, Calif.

Arrangements are by Heritage Funeral Home, East Brainerd Road.

Herbert Smith
Herbert F. Smith died Sunday, Nov. 1, 1998. He was 90.

Arrangements will be announced by Franklin-Strickland Funeral Home.

Fannie Snattinger
Fannie Coleman Snattinger died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1998, in a local hospital. She was 90.

She was a member of Ridgedale Church of Christ and was retired from Standard-Coosa-Thatcher. She was the widow of Harry Snattinger.

Survivors include two daughters, Helen C. Madaris of Chattanooga, and Ruth Coleman Frederick of Atlanta; one son, William W. Coleman of Dunwoody, Ga.; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 11:30 a.m. at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Waymon Summers officiating.

Burial will be in Chattanooga Memorial Park.

The family was to receive friends today from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Paul Williams
Paul Douglas Williams of East Ridge died Tuesday, Nov. 3, 1998, at his home. He was 37.

A native of Chattanooga, he also had lived in Dechard, Tenn. He was a 1979 graduate of East Ridge High School and was a Baptist. He was the son of the late Fred Maxie Williams.

Survivors include his mother, Frances Williams of East Ridge; two sisters, Lori Wilkins of Pilesgrove, N.J., and Denise Davis of East Ridge; and two brothers, John Williams of East Ridge, and Fred Williams Jr. of El Cajon, Calif.

Funeral services were held today at 2:30 p.m. at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home with the Rev. Jud Lowery and the Rev. Rich Brock officiating.

Gordon Henderson
NEW HOPE, Tenn. - Gordon Lee 'Potter' Henderson died Sunday, Feb. 14, 1999, at his home.

Mr. Henderson was a carpenter for over 30 years, a member of Union Local 74, and Pine Grove Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Samuel and Matilda Jane Peoples Henderson; one brother, James E. Henderson; and a sister, Mary Ruth Kelly.

Survivors include his wife, Stephanie Henderson; three daughters, Sherry Hargis and Tammy Lea Brooks, both of South Pittsburg, and Kelley Rutledge, Jasper, Tenn.; one son, Barry Henderson, Chattanooga; one stepson, Buddy Dodson, Chattanooga; one sister, Mattie Blevins, New Hope; one brother, Alvin Henderson, Estill Springs, Tenn.; and nine grandchildren.

Funeral services will be today at 3 p.m. CST at Pine Grove Baptist Church in New Hope with the Rev. Mickey Skates, the Rev. Dennis Eggert and the Rev. Kenneth Conaway officiating.

Burial will be in New Hope cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Pine Grove Baptist Church.

Arrangements are by Rogers Funeral Home, South Pittsburg.

Pat Higgins
OLD FORT, Tenn. - Paul Kenneth 'Pat' Higgins died Sunday, Feb, 14, 1999, in a Cleveland, Tenn., hospital.

Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Higgins Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Longinfelter and the Rev. Randall Headrick officiating.

Burial will be in Benton Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends today from 5 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Fred Hoke
ATHENS, Tenn. - Frederick E. 'Fred' Hoke died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, in an area hospital. He was 67.

He was a graduate of the Maritime Academy, Pass Christian Isle, Miss., and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

He was a retired flight controller-engineer with NASA and Rockwell International for 25 years. He was a member of the Lutheran Church, the Clear Lake Lodge 141 F&AM; of Seabrook, Texas, a 32nd degree Mason of the Chattanooga Scottish Rite Consistory and Alhambra Shrine Temple.

He was a member of BPOE 1927 and presently serving as Tiler of the lodge and had also served as secretary.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Roberts Hoke; one son, Christopher Michael Hoke, Athens; and two grandsons.

A memorial service will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. at Athens Elks Lodge with the Rev. Michael Doty officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905.

Arrangements are by Jerry Smith Funeral Home, Athens.

John McCaughan
COLLEGEDALE, Tenn. - John B. McCaughan died Sunday, Feb. 14, 1999, at his home.

Arrangements will be announced by Heritage Funeral Home.

Leonard Moss
ETOWAH, Tenn. - Leonard R. Moss Sr. died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, in an area hospital. He was 77.

Arrangements will be announced by M.D. Dotson & Sons Funeral Home, Athens, Tenn.

Marjorie Nelson CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Marjorie B. Nelson died Thursday, Feb. 11, 1999, in an area hospital. She was 81.

Arrangements will be announced by Ralph Buckner Funeral Home.

Walter Ogle
CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Walter Ray Ogle died Sunday, Feb. 14, 1999, in an area hospital. He was 59.

He was the son of the late Ida Elizabeth Sutton Ogle and Leonard Alvin Ogle Sr.; and the husband of the late Irene Ogle.

He was a Baptist.

Survivors include two stepdaughters, Charlotte Akins and Janet Oliver, both of Cleveland; two stepsons, Billy Moss, Cleveland, and Harold Moss, Lenoir City, Tenn.; his stepmother, Wilma Ogle, Cleveland; four sisters, Brenda Higgins, Nashville, Shelia Stinnett, Marietta, Ga., Vickie Gardner, Chattanooga, and Faye Wheless, Athens; four brothers, Jim Ogle, Houston, Texas, Danny and Dennis Ogle, Charleston, Tenn., and Leonard Ogle Jr., Knoxville; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services will be today at 1 p.m. at the Wildwood Chapel of Buckner-Rush Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Thacker officiating.

Burial will be in Cedar Springs Baptist Church cemetery.

Willie Powell
WHITWELL, Tenn. - Willie Roy Powell died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, in a Chattanooga hospital. He was 63.

Mr. Powell was retired from Southern Champion Tray Co., in Chattanooga.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ervin and Alta Vandergriff Powell; and a brother, Louis Powell.

Survivors include two sisters, Rebecca Powell and Olavene Powell, both of Whitwell; one brother, Robert Powell, Pikeville, Tenn.; nieces and nephews.

Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. CST at Ewton Funeral Home with the Rev. Sam Parks and the Rev. Donald Camp officiating.

Burial will be in Hudson cemetery.

Visitation will be all day today at the funeral home.

Opal Redmond
BRENTWOOD, Tenn. - Opal Redmond died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999.

Survivors include two daughters, Sue Sharp, Cleveland, Tenn., and Emily Lance, Brentwood; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be today in Nashville, with burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Arrangements are by Brentwood Funeral Home, Nashville.

Local arrangements are by the North Chapel of Buckner-Rush Funeral Home, Cleveland.

Dawn Rogers
CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Dawn Marie Rogers died Sunday, Feb. 14, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 26.

She was a member of South Cleveland Church of God.

Survivors include two children, Totianna Alyce Garrett and John Martin Garrett, Cleveland; her parents, Allen and Paulina Roenneburg, Cleveland; 18 brothers and sisters, William Buol, Madison, Wis., Dennis, Andrew, David, and Jim Buol, all of Monroe, Wis., Mary Ann Walters, Juda, Wis., Clifford Buol and Julie Roenneburg, both of Janesville, Wis., Barbara Yackley, Fort Wayne, Ind., Deborah Spencer, Napierville, Ill., Diana Gardner, Tucson, Ariz., Catherine Roenneburg, Seattle, Sharry Vieau, Milwaukee, Wis., Clarence Buol, Wilmington, N.C., Jeffrey and Randall Buol, and Gary Roenneburg and Paul Wilson, all of Cleveland.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at South Cleveland Church of God with the Rev. Mark Williams officiating.

Burial will be in Fort Hill cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Ralph Buckner Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church.
