Fred Smith
SPENCER, Tenn. - Fred Smith died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999, at his home. He was 75.

He was an Army veteran of World War II, attended the Church of God and was a member of VFW Post 5064, and American Legion Post 173.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Donnie and Douglas Smith; and a daughter, Patricia Smith.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby Stinnett Smith; three sons, Ronnie W., Randy, and Gary Smith, all of Spencer; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Love-Cantrell & Cope Spencer Chapel with Lofton Graves officiating.

Burial will be in Town cemetery with military rites being conducted by the VFW and American Legion.

Tomie Sutton
ATHENS, Tenn. - Tomie Sutton died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, in an area life care center. He was 96.

He was a member of Parkway Baptist Church and was retied from McKeehan Chair Co.

He was the husband of the late Mary Reed Sutton, and the father of the late Isabell Sutton.

Survivors include his wife, Della Mae Phillips Soelman Sutton; one daughter, Shannon Grubb, Cleveland, Ohio; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with the rev. Bobby Webb officiating.

Burial will be in Cedar Grove cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Rebecca Sweeton
WINCHESTER, Tenn. - Rebecca True King Sweeton died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, in a Chattanooga hospital. She was 64.

Services will be today at 1 p.m. at Layne Funeral Home in Palmer Tenn., with the Rev. Stacy Smith officiating.

Burial will be in Griffiths Creek cemetery.

Amanda Wilson
CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Amanda Wilson died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999, in a Knoxville nursing home. She was 95.

Arrangements will be announced by the Wildwood Chapel of Buckner-Rush Funeral Home.

Martha Lowery
Martha Lowery died Sunday, Feb. 15, 1999. She was 69.

Services will be today at 11 a.m. at the Avondale Chapel of Franklin-Strickland Funeral Home with the Rev. Stephen Crymes officiating.

Burial will be in Forest Hills cemetery.

John McCaughan
John Barnett McCaughan of Collegedale died Sunday, Feb. 14, 1999, at his home. He was 88.

A native of Yancey, Texas, he had lived in Collegedale for the past 23 years. He was a member of Collegedale Seventh-day Adventist Church and was retired from Lorentz Housewares after many years of service.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Leota McCaughan; two sons, Michael B. McCaughan, Collegedale, and John R. McCaughan, Riverside, Calif.; one daughter, Annette Boehrig, San Diego; two brothers, James W., and Ralph C. McCaughan; two sisters, Viola Hoffert and Lucille Alexander, all of Texas; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services and burial will be private.

Arrangements are by Heritage Funeral Home, East Brainerd Road.

Charles Nance
Charles E. Nance, formerly of Chattanooga, died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, in Bradenton, Fla. He was 72.

Graveside services will be Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at Hamilton Memorial Gardens, Chapel of Devotion with the Rev. David Bateman officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Magdalene Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 2119, Bradenton, FL 34202 or the Alzheimer's Association, 350 Braden Ave., Sarasota, FL 34243.

There will be no visitation at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.

George Patrick
George Edward Patrick died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, at a local hospital. He was 54.

Arrangements will be announced by Crombie-Pinkard Funeral Service.

Robert Seepe
Robert L. Seepe died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, at his home. He was 64.

Graveside services will be today at 11 a.m. at Hamilton Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Rich Brock officiating.

Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Marks United Methodist Church.

Annette Shadden
Annette M. Shadden of Hixson died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 29.

A native of Chattanooga, she was a graduate of Hixson High School and a member of Burks United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Scott Shadden; two daughters, Britney Morgan and Hannah Elizabeth Shadden, both of Hixson; mother and stepfather, Dorothy and Roger Flinn, Chattanooga; father and stepmother, Allan and Shirley McNabb, Soddy-Daisy; two half brothers, Mark and Mike McNabb, both of Hixson; stepsister, Angelia Snyder, Soddy-Daisy; and one stepbrother, Roger Flinn, Virginia Beach, Va.

Services will be Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Rev. Buddy Miller and the Rev. Harold Ray officiating.

Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Sarah Shaw
Sarah A. Shaw, a longtime resident of Chattanooga died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, at her home. She was 84.

A graveside service will be held today at 2 p.m. in Hamilton Memorial Gardens with the Rev. J.D. Wright officiating.

Arrangements are by J. Avery Bryan Funeral Home.

John Simpson
John Winston 'Sonny' Simpson died Sunday, Feb. 14, 1999, in a local hospital. He was 69.

Services will be today at 12:30 p.m. at Thompkin Chapel Metropolitan AME Zion Church with the Rev. Thomas Tucker and pastor Derrick Davis officiating.

Burial will be in Chattanooga National cemetery.

The body will be at the church one hour prior to the service.

Arrangements are by the Trammell Chapel of Hardwick & Sons Funeral Home.

Annie Slaton
Annie Mae Slaton, formerly of Oak Ridge, died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, in a Chattanooga hospital. She was 83.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl V. Bennett Sr., and children, Glenda Bennett Hughes and Joel Bennett.

Survivors include her children, Donald C. Bennett, Cleveland, Tenn., Carl V. Bennett Jr., Washington, Mo., and Marvene B. Bryant, Chattanooga; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends today from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at McCarty's Woodhaven Chapel with the service to follow at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Wayne McMillan officiating.

Burial will be in Woodhaven Memorial Gardens.

Arrangements are by McCarty-Weaver Funeral Home, Knoxville.

Robert Tulis
Funeral services for Robert Clement Tulis will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with the Rev. Mike Nolan officiating.

Burial will be in Chattanooga National cemetery.

Mr. Tulis, a Tennessee Valley Authority retiree and past president of the Chattanooga Engineers Club, died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999. He was 70.

Survivors include his wife, Marianne Tulis; daughter, Barbara Washington, Los Angeles; two sons, David Tulis, Chattanooga, and Thomas Tulis, Atlanta; a sister, Elaine Tulis, Boston; brother, Ed Tulis, Fellsmer, Fla.; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends today from 3 to 4 and 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, East Brainerd Road.

Memorial contributions may be made to the OLPH choir or the Bethel Bible Village.

Rebecca Vaughn
Rebecca B. Vaughn died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 70.

Graveside services will be today at 2 p.m. at Forest Hill cemetery.

Arrangements are by the Dodds Avenue Chapel of Turner Funeral Home.

Rosie Williams
Rosie C. Williams died Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, at her home. She was 76.

She was a member of Greater St. John Baptist Church.

Survivors include one brother, Earley Lee Cooper; adopted daughter, Virginia Cooper Johnson; one uncle, nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Forest Hills cemetery with the Rev. Sanderland and other ministers officiating.

Visitation will be today from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Trammell Chapel of Hardwick & Sons Funeral Home.

O.J. Blair
CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Orienthal James 'O.J.' Blair died Sunday, Feb. 14, 1999. He was 18.

Arrangements will be announced by M.D. Dotson & Sons Funeral Home.

Frankie Dodson
TRACY CITY, Tenn. - Frankie Irene Dodson died Sunday, Feb. 14, 1999, at her home. She was 73.

She was a member of Plainview Community Church and the widow of Avery Dodson.

Survivors include one son, Jackie Belote, Poplar Bluff, Mo.; one daughter, Nancy Wolverton, Poplar Bluff; two brothers, Jimmy Johnson, Coalmont, Tenn., and David Johnson, Tracy City; two sisters, Mary Layman, Tangerine, Fla., and Eva Cope, Port Charlotte, Fla.; and one grandson.

Services will be today at 2 p.m. at Cumberland Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Rigsby and the Rev. John Potts officiating.

Burial will be in Summerfield cemetery.

Willie Faulkner
CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Willie J. Faulkner died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, in an area hospital.

Arrangements will be announced by Grissom Funeral Home.

F. Blanton Govan
DAYTON, Tenn. - F. Blanton Govan died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, in a local hospital. He was 55.

Services will be held today at 11 a.m. at Vanderwall Funeral Home with Dr. Render Caines officiating.

Burial will be in Rhea Memory Gardens in Dayton.
