Nellie Bass
Nellie Mae Bass of Nashville died Saturday, Feb. 6, 1999, in a hospital there. She was 80.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Bass, and a son, James H. Bass Jr.
Survivors include four sons, Edward Bass, Chattanooga, Frederick Bass, Atlanta, Johnathan Bass and DeVaughn Bass, both of Nashville; two daughters, Hazel Battle, Nashville and Carolyn Ballinger, Longbranch, N.J.; one brother, Monroe Freeman Sr., Chattanooga; 35 grandchildren.
Services will be Friday at noon at Taylor Funeral Home with the Rev. Monroe Freeman Jr. officiating.
Burial will be in Chattanooga National cemetery.
Visitation will be today from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Jo Ann Bell
Jo Ann Cobbs 'Mama Bell' Bell died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 67.
She was a member of Community Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her mother, Edna Cobbs Rucker.
Survivors include her husband, William Bell; two sons, Willie R. Bell and Eddie L. Bell Sr., both of Chattanooga; three daughters, Delia Wilson, Sandra Hammond, and Teresa A. Smith, all of Chattanooga; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home with pastor Kevin Adams Sr. officiating.
Burial will be in Chattanooga National cemetery.
The body will be at the funeral home after 1 p.m. today.
Nannie Berry
Nannie F. Berry died Monday, Feb. 8, 1999, at her home. She was 93.
Arrangements will be announced by the Trammell Chapel of Hardwick & Sons Funeral Home.
Lurlene Brown
Lurlene 'Turkey' Brown died in a local nursing home. She was 64.
Arrangements will be announced by Crombie-Pinkard Funeral Service.
Bruce Blake
Bruce B. Blake of Hixson died Mnday, Feb. 8, 1999, in a local hospital. He was 73.
Mr. Blake was born in Jacksonville, Fla., and had lived in the Chattanooga area since 1991.
He retired from Chevron USA in 1985 as an administrative supervisor, was an Army veteran of World War II, and a member of Red Bank Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Bobbie Heard Blake; one son, Rick Blake, Jupiter, Fla.; one brother, Donald H. Blake, Jacksonville, Fla.; nieces and nephews.
A graveside service was held Wednesday in Chattanooga National cemetery with the Rev. Everett Gossett officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to Red Bank Presbyterian Church, 4320 Dayton Blvd., Red Bank, TN 37415.
Arrangements are by the Coulter Chapel of Lane Funeral Home.

Pauline Blevins of Rossville died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 82.

Gladys J. Fain died Saturday, Feb. 6, 1999, at a local hospital. She was 72.
She was formerly of New York and was educated at Howard High School in Chattanooga.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Fain.
Survivors include one sister, Doris J. Raymore, Chattanooga; one aunt, M.C. Woods, Lithonia, Ga.; one niece and a nephew.
Graveside services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Hamilton Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Thomas Tucker officiating.

Harry Gamble
Harry E. Gamble, co-owner and founder of AOK Supply Co., died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 1999, in a local hospital. He was 80.
Services will be today at 2:30 p.m. at Chattanooga Funeral Home, North, with the Rev. Bill Mooney and the Rev. Laura Trent officiating.
Burial will be private.

Wayne Gilbert
Wayne C. Gilbert died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 1999, in a local hospital. He was 75.
Mr. Gilbert was a native of Knoxville, retired after 35 years of service with United Steel Workers of America, was a 32 degree Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Gilbert.
Survivors include one daughter, Paula G. Henderson, Chattanooga; two sons, Stephen W. Gilbert and Ballard Rutherford; and six grandchildren.
Graveside services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Charles Jackson
Charles B. Jackson, a longtime Chattanooga resident, died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 1999, in a McMinn County nursing home. He was 90.
Mr. Jackson was a native of Philadelphia, Pa., and was a retired manager of a large store in New York.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II on Guadalcanal.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence Anna Jackson.
Survivors include one son, Douglas Charles Jackson, Athens, Tenn.; and two grandchildren.
Graveside services will be Friday at 11 a.m. in Chattanooga National cemetery with the Rev. George Dunbar officiating.
Visitation will be today from 7:30 to 9 p.m. and from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service Friday at J. Avery Bryan Funeral Home.

The lifelong resident of Chattanooga was a member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church, where she was in the church choir and the United Methodist Women.
She was the widow of Francis S. Millard.
Survivors include one son, Sam Millard, Chattanooga; one daughter, Anne M. Axton, Louisville, Ky.; and four grandchildren.
