Lela Ireland
Lela Walker Ireland of Soddy-Daisy died Monday, Jan. 25, 1999, at her home. She was 75.

She was the widow of J.D. Ireland.

Survivors include one son, Winford Ireland; one sister, Dorothy Walker, both of Soddy-Daisy; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Williamson & Sons Funeral Home with Dr. Clarkston Freeman officiating.

Burial will be in Dodd cemetery.

Visitation will be today after 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Johnnie Jenkins
Johnnie V. Jenkins died Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999. He was 28.

Arrangements will be announced by Franklin-Strickland Funeral Home.

Robert Lewis
William Robert Lewis of Soddy-Daisy died Sunday, Jan. 24, 1999, at his home. He was 62.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Verlie Angelina Lewis, and a sister, Helen Marie Lewis.

Mr. Lewis was a member of Green Pond Baptist Church and was a truck driver for 25 years with RSR. He operated the New Salem Gas Station and adjoining businesses and was treasurer of the Dallas Bay Civic League.

Survivors include two daughters, Janice M. Talbert, Plano, Texas; and Evelyn Fay Soule, Burleson, Texas; two sons, Edward L. Lewis, Arlington, Texas, and James R. Painter, Middlelothian, Texas; his father, James Walter Lewis, Soddy-Daisy; one brother, Thomas W. Lewis, Dallas, Texas, and one sister, Christine Davis, Chattanooga; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be today at 4 p.m. at Williamson & Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Ted Painter and the Rev. Clankston Freeman officiating.

Burial will be in Laurel Land cemetery, Dallas, Texas.

Visitation will be today from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Dallas Bay Civic League, Soddy-Daisy, TN 37384.

Marion Loftis
Marion Noel Loftis of Soddy-Daisy died Sunday, Jan. 24, 1999, in a local health care facility. He was 83.

Services will be today at 2 p.m. at Williamson & Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul D. Forgey officiating.

Burial will be at Soddy Presbyterian cemetery.

Emmely Matt
Emmely Magdalena Matt of Signal Mountain and a native of Duisberg-Hamborn, Germany, died Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, at a local health care facility. She was 79.

Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Alexian Village Chapel on Signal Mountain with the Rev. Maro Cannon officiating.

Burial will be in Mt. Olivet cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, 2008 Charlotte Ave., Nashville, TN 37203.

The family will receive friends Friday from 1 to 2 p.m. at Alexian.

Arrangements are by Chattanooga Funeral Home East Chapel.

Edward McEvoy
Edward McEvoy of Soddy-Daisy died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999, at his home. He was 64.

He was a veteran of the Korean War and a retired manufacturer.

Survivors include his wife, Christine Wash McEvoy; five sons, Christopher McEvoy, Orono, Maine, James McEvoy, New Smyrna Beach, Fla., David McEvoy, Edge Water, Fla., and Zachary and Daniel McEvoy, Soddy-Daisy; five daughters, Maureen Sarvent, Red Bank, Anne Andersen, Avon, Conn., Mary Bittick, Sequim, Wash., Lisa Bernier, Frankford, N.J., and Katherine McEvoy, Soddy-Daisy; four brothers, John, William, and Charles McEvoy, New York, and James McEvoy, Florida; and 11 grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at a later date in New York.

Memorial contributions may be made to Habitat for Humanity, 121 Habitat St., Americus, GA 31709-3498.

Mary Miller
Mary Elizabeth Miller of Hixson and Middle Valley, died Jan. 22, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 76.

Services will be today at 10:30 a.m. at Chattanooga Funeral Home, North Chapel with the Rev. Ron Namanny officiating.

Burial will be in the Chattanooga National cemetery.

Harold Pickett
Harold Duard Pickett died Saturday, Jan, 23, 1999, in a local hospital. He was 84.

The Virginia native had lived most of his life in the Chattanooga area.

He was the former business agent for Local 43 Plumbers and Steamfitters Union, where he had been a member for over 50 years.

He was a member of Ooltewah Baptist Church and a 64-year member of the Masonic Lodge in Wytheville, Va.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Virginia Holdren Pickett; two daughters, Launa Browning and Wanda Martin McDowell, both of Chattanooga; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be held today at 1 p.m. at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery.

Odessa Ross
Odessa Ross died Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, in a local health care facility. She was 110.

Arrangements will be announced by Taylor Funeral Home.

James Shropshire
James Dean 'Big Daddy' Shropshire Sr. died Monday, Jan. 25, 1999, in a local hospital. He was 51.

Arrangements will be announced by Franklin-Strickland Funeral Home.

Grace Simmons
Grace Hays Burgess Simmons of Birmingham, Ala., formerly of Chattanooga, died Thursday, Jan. 21, 1999, at Harpeth Terrace Nursing Center in Franklin, Tenn. She was 89.

Services will be today at 1 p.m. at Adamsville Church of Christ in Birmingham.

Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery.

Arrangements are by Woodfin Memorial Chapel in Birmingham.

Linda Taylor
Linda Estelle Taylor died Friday, Jan. 22, 1999, at her home.

Arrangements will be announced by W.L. Wilson & Sons Funeral Home.

Dorothy Thompson
Dorothy Mae Thompson of Hammond, La., died there Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, at a hospital. She was 76.

Graveside services will be held today at 3 p.m. in Collegedale cemetery,

Arrangements are by Heritage Funeral Home, East Brainerd Road.

Alfred Williams
Alfred Williams, formerly of Chattanooga, died Thursday, Jan. 21, 1999, in Cleveland, Ohio.

Survivors include two brothers, Orlando Williams Sr. and Arthur Williams, both of Chattanooga; one niece and nephew.

Services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at E.F. Boyd & Sons Funeral Home in Cleveland.

Floyd E. Wilson died Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, in an area health care facility. He was 87.
