Dorothy Benton
ATHENS, Tenn. - Dorothy Rowe Benton died Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, in an area hospital. She was 82.

She was a native of Moultrie, Ga., and was a member of Allen Memorial United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Benton.

Survivors include four sons, Donald Benton, Clute, Texas, James Benton, Athens, William Benton, Camden, Del., and Robert Benton, Cleveland, Tenn; one sister, Delphia Bodamer, Griffin, Ga.; two brothers, David Rowe, Gainesville, Fla., and Mark Rowe, Panama City, Fla.; and seven grandchildren.

Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Jerry Smith Funeral Home in Athens with the Rev. Ogle Wattenbarger officiating.

Burial will be in Cedar Grove cemetery.

Visitation will be today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Sarah Bostick
SPRING CITY, Tenn. - Sarah Belle Bostick died Friday, Jan. 22, 1999, in an area hospital. She was 72.

She was a native of Hickman County, Ky., and was retired from the Rhea County Medical Center cafeteria with 10 years of service.

Survivors include two sons, Herche Baggett, Tennessee Ridge, Tenn., and Leon Bostick, Spring City, Tenn.; one sister, Mary Jackson, New Mexico; and one grandchild.

There will be no services. The body was cremated.

Arrangements by Vaughn Funeral Home in Spring City.

Hugh Callaway
CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Hugh W. Callaway Sr. died Friday, Jan. 22, 1999, at his home. He was 88.

He was a long-time member of St. Lukes Episcopal Church where he served on the Vestry as Warden and Treasurer.

He was a member of the Cleveland Lion's Club and the Bradley County Sports Hall of Fame.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Eugene Callaway, Luke Callaway and Edward Callaway; and two sisters, Flora Million and Mary Moore.

Survivors include his wife, Frances Callaway; one son, Hugh Callaway Jr., two brothers, Frank Callaway and Lloyd Callaway; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Memorial services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at St. Lukes Episcopal Church with the Rev. Craig Morgan officiating.

Burial will be in St. Lukes Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Lukes Episcopal Church.

Visitation will be Monday from 1 to 2 p.m. in the Parish hall of the church.

Billy Crawley
DAYTON, Tenn. - Billy Gene Crawley died Friday, Jan. 22, 1999, at his home. He was 71.

He was retired from the Kayser Roth shipping department with 28 years of service.

He had lived in Rhea County, Tenn., all his life and was a member of Maple Spring Baptist Church.

Survivors include three sisters, Virginia Arnold, Dayton, Elizabeth Francisco, Graysville, Tenn., and Lois Massengil, Dayton; and two brothers, Vaughn Crawley and Bobby Crawley, Dayton.

Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Vanderwall Funeral Home with the Rev. Joe Ford and the Rev. Randall Massengill officiating.

Visitation will be today after 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mary Evans
CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Mary Ruth Evans died Thursday, Jan. 21, 1999, at her home.

She was a member of Faith Baptist Church, was active in the senior citizens center and was preceded in death by her husband, A.D. Evans.

Survivors include one daughter, Brenda Andrews, Houston, Texas; one son, Pledger Helton Jr.; and one brother, H. Fred Parker, Chattanooga.

Graveside services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at the Union Grove Church cemetery, in Charleston, Tenn., with the Rev. Marshall Roberson officiating.

Visitation will be today from 4 to 6 p.m. at Fike Funeral Home in Cleveland.

Michael Fitzgerald
GUILD, Tenn. - Michael Allen Fitzgerald died Friday, Jan. 22, 1999, in an area hospital. He was 48.

Survivors include his parents, Anita Conner, Jasper, Tenn., and Michael Fitzgerald, New York City.

Services will be today at 1 p.m. CST at Whitwell Memorial Funeral Home with elder Michael Reynolds officiating.

Mary Fuller
ATHENS, Tenn. - Mary Ann 'Pee Wee' Brown Fuller died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999, in a Knoxville hospital. She was 57.

Services will be today at 3 p.m. at Cox Chapel AME Zion Church with the Rev. Lonnie McIntire officiating.

Burial will be in Hammonds cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Arrangements are by M.D. Dotson & Sons Funeral Home.

Dean Housley
PIKEVILLE, Tenn. - Dean Housley died Friday, Jan. 22, 1999, in an area hospital. He was 85.

Services will be today at 1 p.m. at Putnam-Reed Funeral Home with Bro. Albert Roberts officiating.

Burial will be in Spring City cemetery.

Carl Johnson
PALMER, Tenn. - Carl E. Johnson died Friday, Jan. 22, 1999, in an area hospital. He was 66.

He was preceded in death by one son, Steven Johnson; two sisters, Neva Shrum and Zelma Hays; and two brothers, Doug Johnson and Herman Johnson.

Survivors include his wife, Donna Johnson; two daughters, Beverly Smith, Tracy City, Tenn., and Susan Johnson, Monteagle, Tenn.; one son, David Johnson, Tracy City; one stepdaughter, Stephanie Puryear, Avon, Colo.; one brother, Wesley Johnson, Coalmont, Tenn.; one sister, Faye Coppinger, Tracy City; and six grandchildren.

Services will be today at 2 p.m. at Layne Funeral Home with the Rev. Darrell Slaughter and the Rev. Max Coppinger officiating.

Burial will be in Craig cemetery.

Katherine Jordan
TULLAHOMA, Tenn. - Katherine Hatfield Jordan died Friday, Jan. 22, 1999, in an area health care facility. She was 77.

She was a native of Whitwell, Tenn., and was a member of the Tullahoma First Presbyterian Church. She was retired from South Central Bell and was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Robert Jordan.

Survivors include an aunt, Ruby Palmer, Uvaldo, Texas.

Graveside services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. CST at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Bill Lassiter officiating.

Visitation will be today from 2 to 4 p.m. at Hooper Funeral Home in Whitwell.

Willard Kirkland
RELIANCE, Tenn. - Willard Paul Kirkland died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999, in an Etowah hospital. He was 87.

Services will be today at 2 p.m. at Higgins Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Smith and the Rev. John Newman officiating.

Burial will be in Reliance cemetery.

Ruth Melton
RICEVILLE, Tenn. - Ruth Masengil Melton died Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, in an Athens, Tenn. hospital. She was 88.

She was a well known farmer in the Eastanallee Community and preceded in death by her husband, J.O. 'Zeke' Melton.

She was a member of Eastanallee Baptist Church for over 50 years.

Survivors include nieces and nephews.

Services will be Monday at 2:30 p.m. at Ziegler Funeral Home with the Rev. Oran Creasman officiating.

Burial will be in Eastanallee cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday from 5 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Bertha Pruitt
PIKEVILLE, Tenn. - Bertha 'Bertie' Pruitt died Thursday, Jan. 21, 1999, at her home.

Services will be today at 2 p.m. CST at Pikeville Funeral Home with the Rev. Denny Moore officiating.

Burial will be in Pikeville cemetery.
