Stephen White
Stephen Edward White of Hixson died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999, in a local hospital. He was 46.

A longtime resident of the Hixson and Red Bank areas, he was a Baptist, a son of the late J.H. 'Hootie' White, and a brother of the late Larry A. White.

Survivors include his mother, Hallie S. White, Red Bank; three brothers, Houston L. 'Porky' White, Hixson, Kenneth Ray White, Red Bank, and David L. White, Lookout Mountain, Ga.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the Coulter Chapel of Lane Funeral Home with the Rev. George Stephens officiating.

Burial will be in Chattanooga Memorial Park.

Visitation will be today from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 5 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Reece Williams
Reece D. Williams died Sunday, Jan. 17, 1999, in an area hospital. He was 58.

Services will be held today at noon at Orchard Knob Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Henry K. Lester officiating.

Burial will be in Chattanooga National cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Arrangements are by the Trammell Chapel of Hardwick & Sons Funeral Home.

Clifford Bess
ALTAMONT, Tenn. - Clifford I. Bess died Sunday, Jan. 16, 1999, in an area nursing home. He was 83.

Services will be today at 1 p.m. at Layne Funeral Home, Palmer, Tenn.

Burial will be in Altamont City cemetery.

Bill Blevins
KINGSTON, Tenn. - Dr. Bill B. Blevins died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999, in an Oak Ridge hospital. He was 73.

He was a graduate of Tennessee Wesleyan College in Athens, Tenn., and the University of Tennessee Dental School in Memphis.

Dr. Blevins established his permanent practice of oral and maxiofacial surgery in Oak Ridge in 1961. He retired from his practice in 1985.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force, and after 31 years of ongoing military service and at the rank of colonel was awarded the Army Commendation Medal.

Born in Ashland, Ky., he was a son of the late Edgar Elbert and Amanda Ora Ashworth Blevins. He was a direct descendant of Daniel Blevins, who settled in Russell County, Va., during the late 1700s.

Dr. Blevins was a avid pilot and one of the original owners of the Meadowlake Airpark outside of Kingston.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Jean Blevins; one son, B.B. Blevins, Roswell, Ga.; three brothers, Barney Blevins, Kingsport, Jack Blevins, Gray, Tenn., and Joe Blevins, Palm Harbor, Fla.; two sisters, Joan Robinson, Kingsport, and Teddy Jennings, Centerville, Ohio; and four grandchildren.

Services will be today at 1 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary in Oak Ridge.

Burial will be in Stebbins cemetery in Grandview, Tenn.

The family will receive friends today one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Patricia Neal Rehabilitation Center, Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center, 1901 Clinch Ave., Knoxville, TN 37916, or to the Roan County Heritage Commission, P.O. Box 738, Kingston, TN 37763.

Wesley Byram
SOUTH PITTSBURG, Tenn. - Howard Wesley Byram died Sunday, Jan. 17, 1999, in an area hospital. He was 46.

Survivors include his wife, Judy Finley Byram; two daughters, Faye Griffin and Renee Byram, all of South Pittsburg; two stepdaughters, Pamela Namanny, Hixson, Tenn., and Crystal Atterton, Whitwell, Tenn.; stepson, David Fairbanks, Hixson; two brothers, Jack Byram, Trenton, Ga., and John Byram, Ringgold, Ga.; two sisters, Jannie Smith, Bryant, Ala., and Lila Ferrel, Okla; and two grandchildren.

Services will be today at 2 p.m. CST at Hooper Funeral Home with Ron Namanny officiating.

Burial will be in Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens.

James Davis
DAYTON, Tenn. - James Charles 'Jimmy' Davis of St. Paul, Minn., and a former resident of Rhea County, died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999, in Ladysmith, Wis., from injuries he sustained in an automobile accident. He was 56.

He was a son of the late Albert and Evelyn Sharpe Davis and a graduate of Rhea Central High School.

Survivors include one son, Timothy Davis, Grand Forks, N.D.; one brother, Paul Davis, Peachtree City, Ga., and an aunt, Mildred Hood, Dayton, Tenn.

Services were held January 16, at Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home in Anoka, Minn.

Mattie Diggs
CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Mattie Elizabeth Diggs died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 1999, in a local nursing home. She was 92.

Arrangements will be announced by Grissom Funeral Home.

Davis Haven
CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Davis Haven of Ontario, Canada, and a native of Cleveland, died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 1999. He was 76.

Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Haven; one sister, Frankie Sue Haven, Cleveland; nine children and four stepchildren; and several grandchildren.

Funeral services will be in Canada.

Jewell Jones
ALTAMONT, Tenn. - Jewell D. Jones died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999, in an area hospital. She was 50.

Services will be today at 3 p.m. at Layne Funeral Home, Palmer, Tenn., with the Rev. Clayton Jones and Charles O. Ross officiating.

Burial will be in Coalmont cemetery.

Martha Jordan
GUILD, Tenn. - Martha Elizabeth Jordan died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999. She was 83.

Services will be today at 2 p.m. CST at Sequatchie Valley Memorial Funeral Home in Jasper, Tenn., with the Rev. Doug Janeaway and the Rev. Phil Beasley officiating.

Burial will be in Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens, Jasper.

Betty Lawrence
ATHENS, Tenn. - Betty V. Lawrence died Saturday, Jan. 16, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 66.

She was known in the community by several generations as Aunt Bet. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Gulley, Hartford, Conn., and Betty Nesmith, Bloomfield, Conn.; one son, Leon Dickerson, Athens; one sister, Ella Mae Moore, Niota, Tenn.; one brother, Houston Upton, Cleveland, Tenn.; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with the Rev. Wayne Williams and the Rev. Kenneth Scaife officiating.,

Burial will be in Lanetown cemetery, Niota.

Visitation will be after noon Thursday at M.D. Dotson & Sons Funeral Home, Athens.

Wilma Nelson
JASPER, Tenn. - Wilma Faye Nelson died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 1999. She was 54.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Lula Mae Hamblen, and two brothers, John Richard and Andrew Hamblen.

Survivors include her husband, Tommy J. Nelson; one son, Michael Coy Nelson, Jasper; three daughters, April D. Jaramillo, Dalton, Kimberly C. Huckabee, Jasper, and Mona Lynn Reed, South Pittsburg; one sister, Joyce Ann Richards, Cartwright, Tenn.; two brothers, Jackie and Raymond Hamblen, both of Dunlap; nine grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Services will be today at 3:30 p.m. at Sequatchie Valley Memorial Funeral Home, Jasper, with the Rev. Dennis Eggert and other ministers officiating.

Burial will be in Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens.

Betty Nicholson
CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Betty Louise Nicholson died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999, at her home. She was 54.

She was a daughter of the late Clifford and Lois Hartness Roberson and a Baptist.

Survivors include her husband, Joseph R. Nicholson; three sons, Randy Nicholson, Ringgold, Ga., Ed Nicholson, Blairsville, Ga., and Mark Nicholson, Cleveland, Tenn.; five sisters, Elizabeth Jones, Vivian Phillips and Imogene Lewis, all of Dalton, Ga., and Dorothy Hollifield and Samatha Vaughn, both of Alabama; seven brothers, Charlie W., J.L., Walter, George, Jerry and John Roberson, all of Dalton, and Robert Roberson, Chicago; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be today at 2 p.m. at Fike Funeral Home with the Rev. Les Leroy officiating.

Burial will be in Hilcreest Memorial Gardens.
