Betty Jo Whitaker
ETOWAH, Tenn. - Betty Jo Whitaker died Saturday, Jan. 16, 1999, at her home. She was 56.

Services will be today at 3 p.m. at the South Chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with the Rev. John E. Pennington Jr. officiating.

Burial will be in Green Hill cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home.

Anna Amar
Anna Mae Amar died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 80.

A native and longtime resident of the Chattanooga area she was a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church, a retiree from J.C. Penney, and a volunteer at Memorial Hospital.

Survivors include two sisters, Ruby L. Amar and Josephine Westcott, both of Chattanooga.

A Mass of Christian burial will be said today at 2 p.m. at St. Stephen Catholic Church with the Rev. P.J. McGinnity officiating.

Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery.

Visitation will be today from 10 a.m. until noon at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

Carrie Atkinson
Carrie Atkinson died Sunday, Jan. 17, 1999, in an area health care facility. She was 98.

She was a member of St. James Missionary Baptist Church and was a retired cook at Gulas Cafe.

Survivors include her daughter, Mattie C. Logan, Chattanooga; 10 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at St. James Missionary Baptist Church with pastor Jerry Terry and other ministers officiating.

Burial will be in Pleasant Garden cemetery.

The body will be at the church one before the service.

Visitation will be today after 11 a.m. at the Avondale Chapel of Franklin-Strickland Funeral Home.

Margaret Brown
Margaret L. Brown died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999, at her home. She was 77.

Services will be today at 11:30 a.m. at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Rev. Houston Bynum officiating.

Burial will be in New McDonald cemetery in Ooltewah.

Mary Brown
Mary Ida Medlock Brown died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 89.

She was a native of Dutton, Ala., and was of the Pentecostal faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Brown; four children, Jimmie Crisp, Margaret Ann Brown, Sonny Carter and Michael Brown.

Survivors include three daughters, Mary Gardner and Jan Casteel, both of Chattanooga, and Carolyn McTigue, Pittsburg, Pa.; two sons, Jerry Carter, Rossville, and Johnny Mac Brown, Wildwood, Fla.; two sisters, Edna Headrick and Jessie Hawn, both of Dutton, Ala.; 17 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at W.L. Wilson & Sons Funeral Home with ministers Jimmy Hixson and J. Glenn Boatner officiating.

Burial will be in Chattanooga Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends all day today at the funeral home.

Billy Bush
Billy G. Bush died Sunday, Jan. 17, 1999, in a local hospital. He was 71.

Graveside services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Chattanooga National cemetery with the Rev. Carter N. Paden officiating.

The family will receive friends today from 5 to 7 p.m. at St. Peter's Episcopal Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association, Chattanooga Chapter, 5808 Lee Highway, Chattanooga, TN 37421, or the Book of Remembrance, St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 848 Ashland Terrace, Chattanooga, TN 37415.

Ella Chapman
Ella Ora Tate Chapman of Red Bank died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999, in a local hospital.

She was a member of Red Bank Baptist Church and the Lorene Tilford Sunday School Class.

She was retired from the Crane Co., and was a member of Betsy Ross Chapter 272 OES.

She was the widow of Roy H. Chapman.

Survivors include three sisters, Velma Thomas and Fannie C. Hickey, Red Bank, and June Colbaugh, Harrison; one stepdaughter, Barbara Jones, Cleveland.

Services will be held Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Dr. Fred Steelman officiating.

Burial will be in Chattanooga Memorial Park.

Visitation will be today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Raymond Dilbeck
Raymond Wooden 'Rusty' Dilbeck of Chickamauga, Ga., died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999, in a local hospital. He was 72.

He was retired from the Gas Company in LaFayette, Ga., and was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.

He was a Baptist, and the father of the late Gary Dilbeck.

Survivors include his mother, Maggie Wooden Dilbeck, Fort Oglethorpe; one son, Robert Dale Dilbeck, Trion, Ga.; two sisters, Martha Willingham, Rossville, and Jimmie Bowers, Chickamauga, Ga.

Graveside services will be today at 3 p.m. at Center Point cemetery in Noble, Ga.

Arrangements are by W.L. Wilson Funeral Home, Fort Oglethorpe.

Lester Dobson
Lester Franklin Dobson Jr. of Hixson died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999, in a local hospital. He was 63.

He was a native of Long Beach, Calif., and had lived in the Chattanooga area for the past 11 years.

He retired from Singer Sewing Machine Co., was a Catholic, and the widower of Jennie Dobson.

Survivors include one daughter, Marion Downey, Chattanooga; two sons, Carl Lord, Aliff, Va., and Fred Dobson, Chattanooga; one sister, Billie Wagner, Chattanooga; one brother, Norman Dobson, Houston; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from noon until the time of service Friday at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

Ezekiel Elliott
Ezekiel 'Zeke' Elliott of East Lake died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999, in a local health care facility. He was 91.

A native of LaFayette, Ga., he was a member of Greenslake Road Church of Christ and was a former employee of Crane Enamel Co.

He was the husband of the late Lossie Elliott and the stepfather of the late Nona Lee Tucker.

Survivors include one stepdaughter, Ima Jean Molina, Lady Lake, Fla.; one brother, Gordon Elliott, Birmingham; and four stepgrandchildren.

There will be no service or visitation at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.

Burial will be private.

Leola Franklin
Leola Franklin died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 88.

Arrangements will be announced by Franklin-Strickland Funeral Home.
