Juanita C. Bankston died Thursday, Dec. 31, 1998, at a local health care facility. She was 76.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in the Golden Gateway, was retired from the Social Security Administration and was a World War I Auxiliary member.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tillman Bankston.
Survivors include a daughter, Susan Martin, Canton, Ga.; and three grandchildren.
Services will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Revs. Jack Lee and George Mitchell officiating.
Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends today from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Rhonda Blair
Rhonda Joy Blair of East Ridge died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 1998. SHe was 39.
She was a lifelong resident of the Chattanooga area.
Funeral services were held today at 3:30 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, East Brainerd Road, with the Rev. Myron Wise officiating.
Burial was in Lakewood Memory Gardens, South.
Arrangements were by Heritage Funeral Home, East Brainerd Road.
James Bush
James Monroe Bush died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 1998, at a Pikeville, Tenn., hospital. He was 71.
Funeral services were today at noon at Heritage Funeral Home, East Brainerd Road, with Dr. C.S. Knapp officiating.
Burial was in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
Louise Clark
Louise Morris Turner Clark of Rossville died Thursday, Dec. 31, 1998, in a North Georgia hospital. She was 75.
Arrangements will be announced by J. Avery Bryan Funeral Home, Chickamauga, Ga.
Mattie Lou Duff
Mattie Lou Duff of Chattanooga died Thursday, Dec. 31, 1998, in a local nursing home. She was 87.
She was a member of East Ridge Baptist Church and was retired from Three Sisters Co.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren Duff.
Survivors include a daughter, L. Anne Shull, Chattanooga; two sisters, Mildred Warren, LaFayette, Ga., Annette Delaney, Rossville; two brothers, J.C. Stephens, Chattanooga, the Rev. Alden Stephens, Atlanta; and two grandchildren.
Services will be Sunday at 4 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, East Brainerd Road, with pastor Mark Bresee officiating.
Burial will be in Chattanooga National cemetery.
The family was to receive friends today from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Charles Dyer
Charles 'Charlie' Dyer of East Ridge died Thursday, Dec. 31, 1998, at his home. He was 88.
He was a member of Rossville First Church of the Nazarene and was retired from Combustion Engineering after 45 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hal and Margaret Dyer Kerley; first wife, Alma Dyer; and five brothers, Brunton and Bryan Dyer, Luther, Dennis and Jesse Kerley.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Dyer; a daughter, Barbara Carroll, East Ridge; a son, Charles Dyer, Chattanooga; two stepsons, Bruce Fine, Fort Oglethorpe, Joe Amburn, Ringgold, Ga.; stepdaughter, Janice Perkins, Rossville; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; 10 stepgrandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren.
Services will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Rossville First Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Dwight DeNegy, the Rev. Cecil Jenkins and the Rev. Tim Pond officiating.
Burial will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens South.
The family was to receive friends today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, Battlefield Parkway.
Zula Ellis
Zula Tomlinson Ellis died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998, in Dallas.
She was the widow of August George Ellis and was also preceded in death by a son, Nicholas Ellis; one brother, Ernest Tomlinson; and parents, Ernest and Martha Tomlinson.
Survivors include three daughters, Karen Ramsey, Chattanooga, Suzie Reese, Destin, Fla., and Connie Hawkins, Dallas; two sisters, Lois Duke, Chattanooga, and Ottie Carter, Nashville; and five grandchildren.
A prayer service was at 10 a.m. today at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church or the Arthritis Association.
Arrangements are by Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home, Dallas.
Virginia Graves
Virginia Chrisman Graves died Friday, Jan. 1, 1999, at an Atlanta nursing home. She was 98.
She was an elementary school teacher and later worked for the Internal Revenue Service.
She was preceded in death by a son, Dr. Joseph Graves.
Survivors include four grandchildren, Bonnie Englund, Palm Springs, Calif., and Ginnie Martin, Mary Gibson and Jo Smith, all of Atlanta.
Graveside services will be Sunday at 1 p.m. at Forest Hills cemetery.
There will be no visitation at Wann Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.

Leanna Hardy
Mrs. Leanna L. Hardy died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 1998, at a local hospital. She was 64.
She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, was self-employed and was formerly employed by Ullenberg Corp.
She was preceded in death by her father, Frank Lewis; and daughter, Elnora Abram.
Survivors include four daughters, Sheretia Hardy, Joy Underwood, Hannah Patton and Anita Martin, all of Chattanooga; three sons, Jacob Barrow, Virginia Beach, Va., Raymond Hardy Jr. and John Hardy, both of Chattanooga; mother, Annie Lewis, Chattanooga; stepmother, Josie Lewis, Knoxville; a sister, Peggy Suttles, Chattanooga; three brothers, Joe Lewis, Bellflower, Calif., Willie and Dexter Lewis, both of Knoxvile; 25 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Services will be Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home with pastor Steve Underwood officiating.
Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery.
Odis Heard
Odis Heard died in a local hospital on Wednesday, Dec. 30, 1998. He was 65.

Jay Jackson
Jay H. Jackson, one of the founding executives of Mulkey & Jackson (M&J;) supermarkets, died Thursday, Dec. 31, 1998, at his Red Bank home. He was 90.
The funeral was today at 2 p.m. at the Coulter Chapel of Lane Funeral Home with Dr. Fred Steelman officiating.
Burial was in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Newton Johnson Jr.
Newton Halsey Johnson Jr. of Signal Mountain died Friday, Jan. 1, 1999, at his residence. He was 76.
He was retired from Provident Insurance after 35 years, was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and an Ohio State University graduate.
Survivors include his wife, Irene Johnson; two daughters, Barbara Curtis, Columbus, Ohio, and Ellen Cook, Signal Mountain; a son, David Johnson, Chattanooga; and a grandchild.
Services will be private.
