Lawrence Jeffers
Lawrence Jeffers, 90, of Clinton, died Monday in Windwood Health Care Center.
He was a member of Stanfield Baptist Church.
Mr. Jeffers was preceded in death by his parents, Andy L. and Mary E. Phillips Jeffers; and his wife, Clara Bridges Jeffers.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda Blaker of Clinton; three sons and daughters-in-law, Fred and Wanda Jeffers of Oak Ridge, Jimmy and Peggy Jeffers of Clinton, and Dan A. Jeffers of Salisbury, NC; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be 2 pm Thursday in Stanfield Baptist Church, Elk Valley. Burial will be in Warren Memorial Garden
Family will receive friends 7 - 9 pm Wednesday in Holley-Gamble Funeral Home.

Earnest Claude Keeney
Earnest Clyde Keeney, 67, of Heiskell Rt. 1, died Tuesday morning at Anderson County Health Care Center.
He was born July 24, 1925, in Knox County to the late Joe and Sarah Welch Keeney.
His wife, Ruth Hazel Keeney, died Feb. 24, 1991.
Mr. Keeney was employed as a heavy equipment operator for Waste Management Co. at the Chestnut Ridge Landfill before his health declined.
Mr. Keeney was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include a stepson, Doyle and Dorothy Atkins of Knoxville; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Nola Smith of Jackson, Minn.; Elza Dake of Heiskell; Ruby Barth of Knox County; brother, Fred Keeney of Heiskell; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 8 pm Wednesday (tonight) in the chapel of Holley- Gamble Funeral Home with the Rev. Ruble Helton officiating. Burial will be at 11 am Thursday at Wolf Valley Baptist cemetery.

Donald G. Adams

Donald G Adams, 58, of Heiskell, died Friday in Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
A former Dexter, NY resident, he was a member of American Legion and lifetime member of National Rifle Association.
Survivors include his wife, Grace Adams; children, Leslie, David and Sherri Adams, Robert Boliver, Ella Lago, Ramona Pettitt, Herbert Boliver, Jr., and Mrs. Lonnie Daniels; 28 grandchildren; 19 geat-grandchildren; and sisters, Nancy Henson and Sandi Brown.
Private service will be held later in New York.
Rose Mortuary Braodway Chapel, Knoxville, is in charge of arrangements.

Jody Morrow
Age 78, of Crestwood Drive, Clinton, TN, passed away Friday at Oak Ridge Health Care Center. Mr. Morrow retired as Superintendent with Clinton City Schools; member of Clinton Optimist Club and Memorial United Methodist Church; veteran of The U.S. Navy, having served in World War II. Preceded in death by his father, Luther E. Morrow.
Survivors: wife, Ida Asher Morrow of Clinton; son, Randy and his wife, Sharon Morrow of Clinton; grandchildren, Scott Morrow of San Francisco, CA, Travis and Tyler Morrow of Clinton; mother, Pearl Cole of Oak Ridge; sister, Christine Miller of Oak Ridge; nieces, Janet Morris of Jackson, TN, Betty Jean Kerger of Roanoke, VA, Joyce Beaty of Lexington, KY, Joan Cawood of Middlesboro, KY, nephew, Bobby Asher of Raleigh, NC.
Funeral services will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Holley-Gamble Chapel, Rev. Warren Wattenbarger and Rev. David Hanes officiating. Interment icon will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Grandview Memorial Garden. Family will receive friends 6:00-7:30 p.m. Monday at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home.

Ida Trible Jackson
Ida Trible Jackson, 76, Oliver Springs died Saturday, in the family home
Mrs. Jackson was a homemaker and member of Fellowship Baptist Church of Mossy Grove. A Whitwell native, she lived in the Oliver Springs area for the past 53 years.
Mrs. Jackson was preceded in death by her parents, Parley Jones and Essie Smidley Jones.
Survivors include her husband, Harlan Jackson of Oliver Springs; sons and daughters- in-law, Willard Ray and Bobbie Jackson and Charles and Glenda Jackson, all of Oliver Springs; daughters and sons-in-law, Hattie and Bobby White of Clinton and Mildred and Donald Russell of Oliver Springs; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Martha Register and Coleen and Bob Andreu, all of Lake City, Fla.; grandchildren, Melissa Douglas, Charlene White, Billy Ray Jackson, Harlan Jackson, Tabitha Jackson, Kim Lawson, Jodi Russell, Tracy Weaver, Regina McCoy, Stephany Russell and Courtney Russell; great-grandchildren, Joshua Grizzle, Lerissa Douglas, Jordan White, Amber Nolan and Cruz Nolan; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was Monday in Sharp Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Garvin Walls officiating. Graveside service and burial followed in Anderson Memorial Gardens.

Isaiah Barton

Isaiah Matthew Barton, 41, of Clinton, died Monday in Clinton.
The son of Nevie and Classie Barton, he was born Dec 19, 1953, in Clinton. He was an employee of Martin Marietta in the Y-12 plant and a member of Mount Sinai Baptist Church, Clinton. He was preceded in death by his father, Nevie Barton.
Survivors include his mother, Classie Barton, of Clinton; a sister, Betty McKinley of Clinton; three brothers and a sister-in-law, Nevie James Barton, Jr., Curley Barton and Lincoln and Marcia Barton, all of Clinton; aunts and their husbands, Inez and Wardell Johnson of Knoxville; Mary and Tim Jasper of Clinton; an uncle and his wife, James and Rose Jones of Detroit, Mich.; seven nieces and their husbands, Lana and Eddie Golden of Knoxville, Ramanda Barton and Neveha Barton of Cleveland, Ohio, Ivoree Barton, Yelonda McKinley, Michele Barton and Marci Barton, all of Clinton; a host of relatives and friends; three great-nieces and two great-nephews.
Funeral service will be 2 pm Thursday in Mount Sinai Baptist Church cemetery. Body will lie in state one hour before service in the church.
Family will receive friends 7-8 pm Wednesday in Holley-Gamble Funeral Home

Nevie Barton, Sr.
Nevie Barton, 72, of West Broad Street, Clinton, died at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge on Friday after a long illness.
A native of Rome, Ga., Mr Barton was born April 12, 1921. He moved to Clinton as a young man.
He and his wife, Classie, had been married for 52 years. Mr Barton was retired from the Y-12 plant of Union Carbide Corp. in Oak Ridge.
He was a deacon at Mount Sinai Baptist Church and a US Navy veteran.
He had enjoyed target shooting as a hobby. A relative said that he also liked to cut his friends and family's hair.
Survivors include his wife, Classie Barton of Clinton; four sons, Nevie Barton, Jr and his wife, Janet; Curley Barton; Lincoln Barton and his wife, Marcia, all of Clinton; and Matthew Barton and wife, Kitty of Oak Ridge; one daughter, Betty McKinley of Clinton; seven grandchildren, Lana and Eddie Golden of Knoxville; Ramonda Barton of Cleveland, Ohio; Ivoree Barton of Clinton; Nevetta Barton of Cleveland; Yelonda McKinley, Michelle Barton and Marci Barton, all of Clinton; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Waddell (Inez) Johnson of Knoxville and Mrs Tim (Mary) Jasper of Clinton; a brother-in-law, James Jones and wife, Rose of Detroit, Mich; a devoted friend, Eddie Golden, Sr of Clinton; several nieces and nephews; and a host of relatives and friends.
Services will be at 2 pm Monday at Mount Sinai Baptist Church. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 pm Sunday at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home.

Buel Abner
Buel Abner, 87, of Lake City died Sept 12, at the Lake City Health Care Center. He lived in the Medford Community before entering the Center.
An Anderson County native, he was the son of the late Elihu and Martha Jane Willoughby Abner. Mr. Abner was born May 26, 1905.
He worked for more than 40 years as a butcher at several area markets including Cooper's and Miller's in Clinton, and Kesterson's in Lake City.
A longtime member and deacon of Clear Branch Baptist Church, Mr. Abner was an active member of the Adult Choir and had served as a Sunday school teacher.
His wife, Bertha Hatmaker Abner, died in 1985. The couple had been married 56 years at the time of her death. Six brothers and two sisters also preceded him in death.
Survivors include children, Barbara Roysden of Wichita Falls, Texas; Lassie Abner of Lake City; Charles and Wanda Abner of Clinton; and Carl and Jean Abner of Rome, Ga.; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren.
Services were held Tuesday at the Cox Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Floyd Powell, the Rev. George DeLozier and the Rev. Mike Abernathy officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Memorials may be made to Clear Branch Baptist Church, Rt. 1, Lake City, Tenn. 37769.

Dorothy Moore Bobo
Dorothy Moore Bobo, 61, of Clinton, died at 2:50 am Monday, March 3, 1997, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
Mrs. Bobo lived in both Oak Ridge and Claxton before moving to Clinton. She was a nurse's assistant for several years at the former Westmall Nursing Home in Oak Ridge. She was a member of New Vision, New Covenant Church of Knoxville.
She grew up in the Gadsontown community in Claxton before traveling to different parts of the country, the family said. She was the daughter of Allen and Lillie Moore both now deceased.
Mrs. Bobo enjoyed such crafts as ceramics, needlepoint embroidery and crocheting.
She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Bobo of Clinton; two grandchildren, Leondria Bobo and Brandon Anderson; and three sisters, Thressa Atwater, Hazel Moore and Berline Ellis, all of Clinton.
Also surviving are several nieces and nephews, including two nieces and a nephew she considered special, Maxine Davidson of Clinton, Beulah Wells of Claxton and James B Atwater of Knoxville.
Norma and Andy Andrews of Claxton, Laura and J. W. Jarnigan of La Follette, and Willie Jean and Jimmy Robertson of Knoxville were special frineds.
In addition to her parents, a sister and three brothers, Mary Bell Moore, Cornelius Moore, Luther Moore and Mark Moore, died earlier.
The funeral will be held at 2 pm Saturday, March 8, at Mount Sinai Baptist Church in Clinton with the Rev J Ellis McCleary and the Rev Bill Caldwell officiating.
Burial will be at Havens Chapel cemetery in Clinton.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 pm Saturday at the church.
Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton is in charge of arrangements.

Thomas Elkins
Thomas Onessie Elkins, 89, of Powell, died Friday in Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Powell, Steam Fitters 102, Knoxville, and Masonic Lodge 582 in Powell. He was a long-time resident of Robertsville community in oak Ridge. After his retirement, Mr. Elkins enjoyed farming. Born Oct. 5, 1904, in Hawkins County, he was the son of Harvey Gains and Mary Etta Price Elkins.
Mr. Elkins was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Ruth Moore Elkins.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Mary E. and Arthur R. Barker of Powell; sister, Lois Elkins of Knoxville; and grandchildren, Robert and Perry Barker of Powell; nephew, Ralph Elkins of Knoxville; and niece, Marietta Lawhorn of California.
Funeral service was conducted Sunday in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Davidson and the Rev. G.W. Boles officiating. Masonic service followed in Zion Baptist Church cemetery.

Charlotte H. LaRue
Charlotte Holley LaRue, 84, of Clinton passed away Monday, Aug. 23, 1999, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
She was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church in Clinton. She was an active member of Timely Topics Club, Garden Club and Wednesday Club.
She was preceded in death by parents, Paul F. and Roberta Stone Holley; and husband, Harlan LaRue.
She is survived by: Sister, Margaret Eager of Clinton; cousins, Dr. Gene and Madelyn McNeeley and children of Norris.
She had many special friends: Mary Nell and Ralph Ferguson of Knoxville; Fern Cantrell; Celdon Lewallen; Flo Stansberry; Cathy Brown; Jerry Riley and family, all of Clinton: Jean and Jack Bush of Knoxville; Tom and Trish Dollnig of Atlanta; Mary Florence Sharp of Clinton; Edith Wilson; and Mary Miller.
The family received friends 7-8 pm Tuesday, Aug. 24, 1999 in Holley-Gamble Funeral Home, Clinton.
Funeral services were 8 pm Tuesday, Aug. 24, 1999, at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Warren Wattenbarger officiating.
Interment was 10 am Wednesday, Aug. 25, 1999, at Grandview Memorial Garden in Clinton.

Charles Taylor
Charles Herbert Taylor, 67, of Oliver Springs died Monday, March 11, 1996, in his home.
Mr. Taylor was a native of Oliver Springs and a member of Orchard View Baptist Church. He was a retired truck driver, which he worked for 25 years.
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II. He served in Hiroshima and Nagasaki areas following the drop of the atomic bomb.
Mr. Taylor was preceded in death by his parents, Barton Taylor and Sara Nichols Taylor; a brother, Barton Taylor Jr.; and two sisters, Margaret Qualls and Gustavia Taylor.
Survivors are his wife, Clara B. Taylor of Oliver Springs; son, William Taylor and wife, Patricia, of Lebanon, TN; daughters, Sheila Kirby of Lebanon, Tn; and Lula Thomas and husband, Farrell, of Dalton, GA; brother, Charles E. Taylor of LaFollette; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Graveside services were held 2 pm Wednesday, March 13, in Orchard View cemetery. Family received friends 6-8 pm Tuesday, March 12, in Sharp Funeral Home, which was in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Lake Vowell
Lake Vowell, 91, of Laurel Grove Community in Briceville, died Friday, Feb. 23, 1996, in Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
Mrs. Vowell was one of the oldest members of Laurel Grove Baptist Church. She and her late husband, James Vowell, owned and operated Vowell's Grocery. She was norn in Knox County, Ky.
In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by a son, Elbert Vowell; parents, Harland and Loucinda Madin Francis; sisters, Madge Murphy, Hazel Hall and Nell Callicoat; brothers, Delmus Vowell and Hubbard Vowell.
Survivors are daughters and sons-in-law, Alma and John Owsley of Lake City and Ginger and Ronnie Smiddy of Briceville; grandchildren, JOhn Owsley and wife, Sarah, of Oak Ridge, Angela Connaster and Husband, Eddie Connaster of Knoxville, Mark Owsley of Clinton, Lake McCoy and husband, Steve McCoy of Lake City, Michael Vowell and Shawn Vowell of Houston, Texas, Kelly Vowell and wife, Jenny Vowell, of Bessemer City, NC. and Brian Vowell and wife, Karen Vowell of Merrillville, Ind.; great-grandchildren, Jonathan Shain Vowell and wife, Luellen, Deanna Duncan, Marie Owsley, Aaron Owsley, Cahterine Connaster, Nichole Owsley, Joshua Owsley, Joanna McCoy, Kirk Vowell, Keith Vowell, Nicole Vowell; great-great grandson, Jonathan Shain Vowell I I; step-grandchildren, Angie Smiddy and Ronnie Smiddy, both of Lake City; daughter-in-law, Lilly Jean Vowell of Bessemer City, NC; sisters-in-lae, Nola Francis and Geneva Francis of Littcarr, NC; Beulah Mozingo of Lake City and Margaret Smith of Knoxville; and a special friend, Naomi Puttman of Bessemer City, NC.
Funeral service is 2 pm Sunday, Feb. 25, in Laurel Grove Baptist Church with Rev. David White and Rev. Charlie Mack Marlow officiating. Interment icon follows in Laurel Grove cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour before services. Family received friends 6 - 9 pm Saturday in Cox Funeral Home, Lake City.
