Phyllis Imogene Stanford
Phyllis Imogene Stanford, 63, of LaFollette, died on Friday, March 22, 2002 at St. Mary's Medical Center of Campbell County. She was a member of the Cedar Creek Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by parents, Steve and Belzie Lumpkins Chapman, and husband Kenneth Stanford, brothers Hoyle, and Doyle Chapman.
She is survived by sons Michael Stanford of Clinton, Marvin Keith Stanford of LaFollette; daughter Connie Stanford Kitts of LaFollette; sisters Lois White, Betty Miller, both of LaFollette, Lucille Mozingo of Norris and Patsy Wilburn of Corbin, Ky., five grandchildren.
Funeral services were Monday, March 25, at Cedar Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Leroy Braden officiating. Interment icon was in the Sunrise Cemetery.
Martin Wilson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Evelyn Wilson
Evelyn Wilson, 80, of LaFollette, died Tuesday, March 19, 2002 at St. Mary's Medical Center of Campbell County. She was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by husband, James T. Wilson, brothers, E.B. and Author Eldridge, parents Sudie and Robert Eldridge.
She is survived by sister, Georgia Partin of Middlesboro, Ky.; daughter, Deborah Chadwell; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Saturday, March 23, at Cross Funeral Home with. Rev. O.P. Byrd officiating. Interment icon was in the Woodlawn Cemetery.
Cross Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Betty Lou Owens
Betty Lou Owens, age 83, of Duff, passed away Sunday, March 24, 2002, at St. Mary's Medical Center of Campbell County.
She was a member of Duff Baptist Church and a retired U.S. Postmaster.
Preceded in death by parents John and Nettie Smith, husband Earl Milton, grandson, Kevin Milton and stepson, Michael Owens.
She is survived by, son and daughter-in-law, John Earl and Patsy Milton, Duff, daughters & son-in-law, Mary Milton, Knoxville, Pat & Gary Ray, Duff, grandsons and wives, Lynn and Shan Ray, Tod and Kristy Ray, Andy and Heather Ray, granddaughter and husband, Kelly and Mark Saderholm, granddaughters, Robin Ferguson and Melissa Ferguson, step-sons, Walters Owens, Corbin, Albert Owens, Portage, In. Step daughter, Barbara Harris, Clearwater, Florida, Rita Southerland, Chuckey, TN; Sisters, Liba Powell, Duff, Dorothy Keebler, New Castle, Delaware.
Funeral services were at 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, at Cross Funeral Home.
Rev. Lynn Ray and Rev. Don Allen officiating.
Interment was 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 27, at Peabody Cemetery.
The family received friends 6 til 8 p.m. Tuesday prior to the funeral service.

Elbert Sheffy Miller
Elbert Sheffy Miller, 68, passed away Monday, March 11, 2002 at his home in Galveston,  Texas.
Mr. Miller was born November 4, 1933 in Jellico, Tennessee, to Louise Austin and Elbert Kyle Miller.
Mr. Miller was a graduate of the University of Tennessee.
He worked for over 30 years in the insurance business, working with Life and Casualty of Nashville, American General in Houston and Anthem Insurance Company in Dallas.
Mr. Miller was a loving father, brother, uncle and great friend.
Mr. Miller was survived by his son Mark Nichols Miller, his sister Lida Miller Lowrey, nieces Elizabeth Lowrey Clapp and Sheridan Miller Lowrey and numerous other relatives. Graveside services were held at 3 o'clock Saturday, March 23, 2002 at Sherwood Memorial Gardens, 3716 Airport Highway, Alcoa, Tennessee. In lieu of usual remembrances, donation may be directed to the  Texas Heart Institute, P.O. Box 4149, Houston,  Texas 77210-9886.

Lillian "Nanny" Brown
Mrs. Lillian "Nanny" Brown, age 93, of Harrogate, TN quietly passed away on Monday, March 18, 2002, with her family and friends by her side.
Nanny was an active member of River View Baptist Church.
Nanny was a loving mother and grandmother and will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her children, all from Harrogate, TN.; James "Buddy" Brown, Carl Ray Brown, Claudine Agee, Wilma Agee, and Juanita Gibson. Sisters Louise Madron and Eula Garvis of LaFollette, TN. Nanny has 17 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her late husband, Omalee Brown, 2 sons, Robert and David, her parents, Alexander and Sarah Miller, her brothers, Hubert, Clyde, Costo, Leon and Harley Miller, sister, Vida Miller and one grandchild, infant Stephen Lynn Agee.
Over 250 friends and family attended her funeral service, which was held at Coffey Funeral Home in Harrogate, TN on March 20th. Reverend Dennis Cosby, Reverend John Baker and Reverend Shane Sandifer preached a beautiful funeral. Music was provided by the Liberty Quartet. Interment icon was Thursday, March 21, 2002 at the Woodlawn Cemetery in LaFollette. Pallbearers were her grandsons and great grandsons: Jeffery Brown, Brian Brown, David Brown, Mark Gibson, Jonathan McBrayer, Jacob Agee, Jason Agee and Robby Agee.
Honorary pallbearers were Nanny's dear friends: Bill Baker, Hubert Carmony, Clyde Sandefer and Howard McMurray.

Verla Shoun Stephens
Verla Shoun Stephens, age 82, of Orlando, Fla., formerly of LaFollette (Demory Community) passed away Friday, March 22, 2002, in Orlando, Fla. Preceded in death by husband Dr. Harley H. Stephens, former Superintendent of Schools in Alcoa, TN, parents: John and Laura Murphy Shoun.
She attended East Tennessee State Teachers College and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Member of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors: son: Dr. Ralph E. Stephens, Crossville, TN, daughter: Rhonda Garner, Orlando, Fla., grandsons: Gregory Stephens, Kevin Garner and Jacob Stephens, great-grandchildren: Casey and Justin, brother: Rev. J.L. Shoun, LaFollette, sisters: Ada Heatherly, Orlando, Fla., Elva Morton, Oak Ridge, TN, Irene Robinette, Morganton, N.C., Sylvia Hagedorn, Seattle,  Washington.
Funeral service was 8:00 p.m. Monday Cross Chapel, Rev. J.L. Shoun officiating.
Interment was 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Bakers Forge Cemetery.
The family received friends 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Cross Funeral Home.
Arrangements by Cross Funeral Home.
