Mr. Richard “Rickor” Owen, 50, a resident of Valley Creek Road in the Culleoka Community, died Monday, March 1, 2004 at Maury Regional Hospital.

Funeral services for Mr. Owen will be conducted Wednesday, March 3, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at the Pentecostal Church of Jesus Christ with Reverend Henry Mobley officiating. Burial will be in the Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 3:00 until 9:00 p.m. at the Williams Funeral Home in Columbia.

The Detroit, Michigan native was the son of Arthur and Ann Kingsland of Lebanon, Tennessee. He was the husband of Shirley King Owen of the Culleoka Community. He was a member of the Pentecostal Church of Jesus Christ.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Lisa Deridder of Mt. Pleasant, TN and Kimberly “Baby Girl” (Jimmy) Guthrie of Whitehouse, TN; five sons, James Tidwell of Florida, Richard “Rick” (Virginia) Owen, Jr. and Brian Wayne (Sayra) Owen both of California, Shane Owen and Cameron Owen both of Culleoka, TN; Ten Grandchildren; three brothers, John Owen of Lebanon, TN, George (Eva) Owen of Water Town, TN, and Arthur (Jan) Kingsland, Jr. of Lebanon, TN; a sister, Linda (Bubba) Walpole of Lebanon, TN; several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Shane Owen, Cameron Owen, George Owen, John Owen, Arthur Kingsland, Jr., and Michael Wright. Honorary pallbearers will be Wallace Coleman and William Walpole.

Ruskin Alexander Vest

Born in Maury County, TN on May. 5, 1918

Departed on Mar. 3, 2004 and resided in Mt. Pleasant, TN.

Visitation: Friday Mar. 5, 2004 & Saturday Mar. 6, 2004

Service: Saturday Mar. 6, 2004

Mr. Ruskin A. Vest , 85, a resident of Canaan Road near Mt. Pleasant, died Wednesday, March 03, 2004 at his home.

Funeral services for Mr. Vest will be conducted Saturday, March 6, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at the Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Dr. Bill Thrasher and Randy Kersey officiating. Burial will be in the Arlington Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

The Mt. Pleasant native was the son of the late Solomon Alexander and Emma Bailey Vest. He was a graduate of Hay Long High School and attended Georgia Institute of Technology for two years before entering the Army Air Corps in 1941 where he was a navigational instructor. In 1945 he left the Army as a lieutenant to return to work in Mt. Pleasant at Victor Chemical Works. He married Melba Robinette on May 24, 1947. Later he and Will C. Robinette purchased Thompson Diary in Mt. Pleasant which they operated until 1958 merging into Jersey Pride Creamery. He then went to work at Industrial Products Company, Inc., a rockwool manufacturer and fiberglass distributor, where he was eventually president and owner. He remained active in the business. He was also owner of Southeastern Shirt in Mt. Pleasant and Southeastern Pant in Centerville. He was a cattle farmer and an avid outdoorsman. Being active in community affairs, he served as a director on the Maury County Hospital Board and Director for the Middle Tennessee Bank. He served as city commissioner for Mt. Pleasant, was president of First Utility Gas Company in Mt. Pleasant, and served on the Maury County Airport Board. He was a member of the Main Street Church of Christ.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Eleanor (John Ball) Howard of Edisto Island, S.C.; a son, Ruskin A. “Rusty” (Karen) Vest, Jr. of Columbia, TN; a sister, Sarah Wilhite of Bolivar, TN; five grandchildren, Ruskin A. “Zan” Vest, III, Rachel Elizabeth Vest, Margaret Anne Vest all of Columbia, TN, Sarah Ethel Howard and John Ball Howard, Jr. both of Edisto Island, S.C.; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, William Lewis Vest.

Pallbearers will be Hunter Robinette, Justin Robinette, Richard E. Wilhite, Larry Wilhite, Dr. Jerry Wilhite, Harold Wilhite, Dr. Frank Wilhite, Kenneth Weiss, and Earl Bentz.

Honorary pallbearers will be employees of Industrial Products, Inc.

The family wishes to express special thanks to Dr. Janice Vinson and Cardiology Unit at Maury Regional Hospital, staff of Maury Regional Hospital, Dr. Robert Bain, Dr. James Barr, Dr. Jim Marshall.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Columbia Academy 1101 West 7th Street Columbia, TN 38401 or Hospice of Highland Rim 2014 Elmer Pogue Dr. Columbia, TN 38401.

Donald Mark Lewis

Born in Detroit, MI on Mar. 6, 1939

Departed on Mar. 3, 2004 and resided in Mt. Pleasant, TN.

Mr. Donald Mark “Don” Lewis, 64 years old, has finally won his battle with lung cancer, as he rests in peace in the loving arms of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Funeral services for Mr. Lewis will be conducted Friday evening, March 5, 2004 at 6:00 p.m. at the Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Reverend Price Keller officiating. The family will visit with friends Friday from 3:00 until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

The Detroit, Michigan native was the son of the late Mark and Jennie McLellan Lewis and husband of Sandra “Sandy” Buckholz Lewis. He was a resident of Iris Drive in Mt. Pleasant and op-tech for the Saturn Corporation. He was a communicant of St. Catherine Catholic Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Peggy L. (Spencer) Lutz of South Bend, IN and Donna (Harry “Spoon”) Symlar of Columbia, TN; six grandchildren, Ashley Lutz, Taylor Lutz, Ryan Lutz, and Drew Lutz all of South Bend, IN, Devin Symlar and Byce Symlar; two nieces and five nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Peggy Durf and Kay Wickline; one brother, Ronald Lewis.

Honorary pallbearers will Dr. C. Houston Jameson, III and the staff of Maury Regional Hospital Oncology Unit.

Memorials may be made to the Hope for Haley Fund, 51740 Westport Court Granger, IN 46530.

Angela-Jane Carter Kuhl

Born in South Orange, NJ on Jul. 6, 1922

Departed on Mar. 3, 2004 and resided in Columbia, TN.

Service: Monday Mar. 8, 2004

Cemetery: Polk Memorial Mausoleum

Mrs. Angela- Jane Carter Kuhl, 81, a resident of Columbia died Wednesday, March 3, 2004 at Maury Regional Hospital.

The funeral mass for Mrs. Kuhl will be conducted, Monday March 8, 2004 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Catherine Catholic Church with Father Patrick Connor officiating. Entombment will be in the Polk Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will visit with friends Saturday and Sunday from 1:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with a prayer vigil Sunday evening at 8:00p.m.

The South Orange, New Jersey native was the daughter of late Joseph A. and Mary Helmlinger Carter. She was the widow of William H. Kuhl, Sr. who died in 1995. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America , Toms River First Aid Squad Ladies Auxilary in Toms River, New Jersey , Legion of Mary, Rosary Society, and Marian Prayer Group. She was a Life member of Deborah Heart & Lung Center in Browns Mill, New Jersey. She was active in PTA in South Orange, New Jersey, her life was her family and her church. She was a homemaker and a communicant of the St. Catherine Catholic Church.

She is survived by her children Mary Jane (Joe, IV) Froggatt of Buckhannon, West VA, William H, “Bill” Kuhl, Jr. and Joseph Kuhl both of Columbia, TN; Dear Close Friend of the Family, Mary Ann (Dave) Davis of Columbia, TN; fourteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Thomas C. “Tommy” Kuhl, Sr. who died in 1994; a brother, Joseph Carter, Jr.; two sisters, Mary Anginoli and Mary Frances Carter.

Pallbearers will be Thomas Kuhl, Jr., Kevin Kuhl, Brian Kuhl, Kelly Kuhl, Jim Ledbetter, Thomas McCallum, Heather Potterton , and Lori Kuhl.

Honorary pallbearers will be Marva Booker, Diane Polk, Andrea Hinson, Rosemary Edmonds, Charina Pitijing, Sharon Shackelford, Angela Wherry, Glenda Runions, Brenda Adams, Dorothy Anderson, Nursing Staff of 3rd West and SNU Unit at Maury Regional Hospital, and Cayce Kuhl.

Memorials may be made to the Lazarus Ministry and Marian Prayer Group Ministry at St. Catherine Catholic Church 3019 Cayce Lane Columbia, Tennessee 38401.

Justin J. Alexander

Born in Flint, MI on Dec. 19, 1977

Departed on Mar. 4, 2004 and resided in Antioch, TN.

Mr. Justin J. Alexander, 26, an employee of Premier with the Saturn Corporation and a resident of Antioch, died Thursday, March 4, 2004 at Baptist Hospital.

Funeral services for Mr. Alexander will be conducted Monday, March 8, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at the Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Charles Sanders officiating. The family will visit with friends Monday from 10:00 until service time at the funeral home.

The Flint, Michigan native was the son of Lugene (Larry) Davis of Columbia and Charles Lee (Connie) Alexander of Memphis.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by three sisters, Felita Keith of Flint, MI, Tiffany Alexander and Jessica Henderson both of Atlanta, GA; four brothers, Christopher Alexander and Lemar Heard both of Nashville, TN, Rodney (Cherie) Alexander of Flint, MI, and Joseph Davis of Columbia, TN; a special friend, Amanda Turner of Nashville, TN.

June Hess Thomas

Born in Uniontown, PA on Jun. 18, 1940

Departed on Mar. 13, 2004 and resided in Mt. Pleasant, TN.

Service: Thursday Mar. 18, 2004

Mrs. June E. Hess Thomas, 63, a resident of Enterprise Road in Mt. Pleasant, died Saturday, March 13, 2004 at Maury Regional Hospital.

A memorial service for Mrs. Thomas will be conducted Sunday, March 28, 2004 at 4:00 p.m. at the Southside Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant with Reverend Danny Laster officiating. Williams Funeral Home in Columbia is in charge of the arrangements.

The Uniontown,  Pennsylvania native was the daughter of Clyde and Dorothy Cales Hess of Adah,  Pennsylvania. She was a homemaker, fulltime loving mother, and grandmother. She was a faithful member of the Southside Baptist Church. She was a 20 year survivor of breast cancer and active participant of Relay for Life with the American Cancer Society. She will be greatly missed and forever remembered.

She is survived by a son, Martin (Barbara) Thomas of Murfreesboro, TN; two daughters, Roxann (William “Jo-Jo”)Sanders of Mt. Pleasant, TN and Renee (Mike) Alexander of Smithfield, PA; three grandchildren, Crystal Lynn Thomas and Marty Thomas both of Murfreesboro, TN, and Nicole Fabery of Mt. Pleasant, TN; a great grandson, Drake McCauley of Murfreesboro, TN. She was preceded in death by a son, Mark Allen Thomas.

Johnny Rowland

Born in Maury County, TN on Apr. 19, 1951

Departed on Mar. 15, 2004 and resided in Columbia, TN.

Visitation: Thursday Mar. 18, 2004

Service: Friday Mar. 19, 2004

Cemetery: Polk Memorial Mausoleum

Mr. John L. “Johnny” Rowland, 52, a resident of Zion Road near Mt. Pleasant, died Monday, March 15, 2004 at Maury Regional Hospital.

Funeral services for Mr. Rowland will be conducted Friday, March 19, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with the U.S. Navy Chaplain officiating. Entombment will be in the Polk Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with military honors being provided by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 5:00 until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

John was a 22 year veteran of the U.S. Navy. He held a Baccalaurette degree in Sociology from the University of New York and was owner of Rowland’s Septic Service for several years. The Maury County native is survived by his wife Shelby Burkholder Rowland and a daughter Nicole Rowland (Allan) Reagan He was the son of Doris Espenschied Rowland of Columbia and the late John L. Rowland; proud grandfather of Zachariah John Reagan, Tiernan Love Reagan, and Lilly Ann Reagan all of Columbia, TN; four sisters, Doris (Johnny) Thomason, Rhonda (Tommy) Stanfill, and Cherry (Rodney) Benson all of Columbia, TN, and Sandra Kay (Danny Turner) Watts of McMinnville, TN; three brothers, Roger Dale (Gale Harding) Rowland and William (Kelly) Rowland both of Mt. Pleasant, TN, and Mike (Carol) Rowland of Columbia, TN; many nieces and nephews.

The U.S. Navy honor guard will serve as pallbearers.

A special thanks to the Oncology Department and their nursing staff at Maury Regional Hospital.
