Charles Core White

SPRING HILL -- Charles Core White, 69, died Thursday, June 19, 2003, at his residence in Spring Hill.

Services were held Saturday at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home with Herb Wilburn officiating. Burial was in Williamson Memorial Gardens.

He was the son of the late Robert Lee and Jessie B. Crafton White. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict, a car lot owner, backhoe business operator and a member of Hillview Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by a son, Tony White.

Survivors include his wife, Polly White of Spring Hill; a son, Allen Reed of Spring Hill; a daughter, Sandra Reed of Columbia; brothers, Robert White of Arno Community and Buford White of Nevarre, Fla.; a sister, Lorene Sledge of Arno Community; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Lt. Col. Ret. Kermit Chappell Garner Sr.

Lt. Col. Ret. Kermit Chappell Garner Sr., 71, retired from the U.S. Army died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2002, at his residence on the Theta Pike in Columbia.

Services for Lt. Col. Garner will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Williams Columbia Funeral Home with Dr. Charles E. Worrell Sr. officiating. Entombment will be in the Polk Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with full military honors being provided by the Ft. Campbell Honor Guard. The family will visit with friends from 6-9 p.m. Monday and from 2-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

The Dublin, Ga., native was the son of the late Thomas Chappell and Alma Lizzie NeSmith Garner. He graduated from Mercer University in 1951 before beginning his military career. He was a former real estate broker for Dixie Realty in Murfreesboro.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Murfreesboro and attended the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Columbia. He was a member of the Mt. Moriah Masonic Lodge #18 in Murfreesboro in which he recently received his 50-year pin. He was a member of the Woodmen of the World and Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. He served in both the Korean Conflict and the  Vietnam War as a pilot, attaining the title of Senior Aviator.

He served in Europe for five years. He graduated from the Command and General Staff College in 1966. He was a member of the 82nd Airborne and the 101st Airborne. He was an aviator instructor for several years. In addition to many awards, he received eight battle Stars, the Bronze Star Medal and the Meritorious Service Medal.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Rachel Cheek Garner of Columbia; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Cherese) Brooks of Nashville; two sons, Lt. Col. Kermit Chappell Garner Jr. of Woodstown, N.J., and Christopher V. (Staci) Garner of Murfreesboro; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Clay (Judith) Hopwood of Columbia; a stepson, Jerry (Beverly) Primm of Columbia; three brothers, B. Javan (Othine) Garner of Dublin, Ga., Dr. Cyler D. (Faye) Garner of Gordon, Ga., and T. Aaron (Millie) Garner of Conyers, Ga.; six grandchildren, Marcus E. Brooks, Nicole G. Brooks and Meagan T. Brooks, all of Nashville, and Agnes-Marie Garner, Linda C. Garner and Cynthia E. Garner all of Woodstown, N.J.; three step granddaughters; one step grandson; and five step great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be the Ft. Campbell Honor Guard.

Robert J. Hugh 'Jake' Johnson

PULASKI-- Robert J. Hugh "Jake" Johnson, 83, died Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at his home in Pulaski.

Services will be conducted at 3:30 p.m., Thursday at the Carr and Erwin Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Pigsah Cemetery.

He was preceded in death by sons, Jerry and Sidney Troy Johnson; and a daughter, Mary Jean Johnson.

Survivors include his wife, Anna Mae Minatra Johnson of Pulaski; sons, Ronnie Johnson of Bunker Hill; Rex Johnson of Pulaski; Steve Johnson of Petersburg; daughters, Dixie Holt of Pigsah; Delynn Johnson of Pulaski and Darlene White of Lynnville; four grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Pigsah Cemetery Fund.

Mr. John Benton 'Billy' Madden Jr.

Mr. John Benton "Billy" Madden Jr., 73, retired from Werthan Bag Company and Metropolitan Nashville Water and Sewage Department and resident of Rocky Mound Road in Westmoreland, died Friday, June 7, 2002, at Skyline Medical Center in Nashville.

Services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday at Oakes and Nichols Funeral Home with the Rev. Clay Grissom officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery.

The family will visit with friends after noon Sunday at the funeral home.

The Maury County native was a member of the Harmony Missionary Baptist Church in Nashville.

Survivors include his wife, Rosie Lee Wiley Madden of Westmoreland; two daughters, Brenda Howell of Westmoreland and Shirley Ray of White House; five sons, James W. Madden of Nashville, Richard (Teresa) Madden of Ashland City, Jackie (Beverly) Madden of Westmoreland, John (Sandy) Madden of Nashville and Frank (Lisa) Madden of Ashland City; his mother, Lula B. Vaughn Madden of Westmoreland; 12 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Benton Madden Sr.; and a son, Billy Joe Madden.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Arnold J. Smith

Arnold J. Smith, 77, lifetime farmer and retired owner of Arnold Smith Implement Company, died Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002, at his residence on Pulaski Pike.

Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at Oakes and Nichols Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Williamson, Ted Burleson and Porter King officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens.

The family will visit with friends from 3-7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Columbia Lions Club, The Family Center Building Fund or the Maury County Chapter of the American Cancer Society.

The Maury County native was the son of the late Emmitt Thomas Smith and Gertie Dugger Smith. He was married to Jane Marie Dodson Smith, who preceded him in death on July 16, 1994.

Mr. Smith was a 1943 graduate of Columbia Central High School. He served as chairman of the Maury County Election Commission for 38 years. He was former president and a 48-year member of the Columbia Lions Club, where he was a Melvin Jones Fellow recipient.

Mr. Smith was a breeder and an avid participator in Walking Horse activities and was a long-time member of the former Maury County Horseman's Association. He was a member of West Seventh Street Church of Christ and the Mynders Community Club.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Teresa (Nelson) Lyles of Columbia; two grandchildren, Suzanne (Jeff) Jordan and Laura Truelove (James Marshall), both of Columbia; two great-grandchildren, Nicholas Jordan and Jacob Jordan; two nieces, Jackie Markham of Columbia and Gail Caruthers of Nashville.

He was preceded in death by one son, Tommy Smith.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Corvin, Todd Baxter, Mike Floyd, Dr. James Kelley, John Moser, Bobby Sands, John Markham and Ray Howell.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Columbia Lions Club, commissioners and staff of the Maury County Election Commission, Billy Glynne Rummage, Dr. Amit Choksi, Dr. Tony Khim, Dr. Charles D. Wendt, Dr. Andrew Sisk, Dr. Marie Gorski and doctors of the Columbia Oncology Group.

Dr. John R. Earls, Jr. D.C

Dr. John R. Earls, Jr. D.C., 43, local chiropractic physician and resident of Camellia Drive and the husband of Rebecca (Hale) Earls, died Thursday, January 29, 2003 at Maury Regional Hospital.

Funeral services for Dr. Earls will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday,

in the chapel of Williams Columbia Funeral Home with the Reverend Brian Wiesinger and Reverend Gene Shelton officiating. Burial will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens.

The family will visit with friends 4-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Born in Havre de Grace, Md., he was the son of John R. Earls, Sr. and Lena M. "Boots" Johnson Earls. Dr. Earls attended Logan College of Chiropractic in St. Louis, Mo. and he was a member of Grace Church of the Nazarene.

Survivors in addition to his wife and parents, include: three daughters: Madelaine Rae, Jayne Suzanne and Lena Rebecca Earls, all of Columbia; two sisters: Kym Earls Bailes and Kris Earls-Fender, both of Columbia; five nephews: Ian Earls Bailes, Spencer Earls Bailes, Zachary Earls-Fender, Hunter Earls-Fender of Columbia and Mitchell Hale of St. Louis, Mo..; five nieces: Austyn Earls-Fender of Columbia and Laura Jennings, Sera Jennings, Lydia Hale and Anna Hale, all of St. Louis, Mo.

Active Pall bearers will be Ernie Johnson, Charlie Johnson, Tim Bailes, Tim Fender, Jerry Strahan, Dr. Chris Thiesing, Donald Paunil, Frank Hale and Dr. John Billingsley.

Memorials may be made to the Grace Church of the Nazarene.

Paul E. James

Paul E. James, 83, of Hohenwald, died Saturday, June 7, 2003 at Maury Regional Hospital.

Services will be held 1 p.m. on Monday, June 9 at McDonald Funeral HOme with Roger Banks and Russ Adcox officiating. Burial will follow in the Downey Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday.

The Lyles native was the son of the late Jessie James, Sr. and Della James. He was preceeded in death by his wife Ermadean James.

Survivors include a son, Wayne James of New Johnsonville; daughters, Geraldine Johnson, Judy Bunch and Sheila Holley, all of Hohenwald; brothers, Jimmy James, Bobby James, Jerry James and Larry James, all of Hohenwald; sister, Lillian Carroll of Columbia; 17 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

Leonard Ray Carroll

HOHENWALD -- Leonard Ray Carroll, 67, died Friday, Aug. 8, 2003, at Maury Regional Hospital.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at McDonald Funeral Home with Gerald McCann officiating. Burial will be in Twin Oaks Cemetery.

He was the son of the late Leonard Carroll and Mamie Carroll. He was a logger. He was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene Nancy Mae Williams Carroll.

Survivors include sons, Perry Carroll, Todd Carroll and Randy Carroll, all of Hohenwald; a daughter, Debbie Spurgeon of Hohenwald; brothers, Herman Carroll, J.D. Carroll, Leslie Carroll and Lonnie Carroll, all of Hohenwald; a sister, Helen McCann of Hohenwald; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Louise Williams Pilkinton

Mrs. Louise Williams Pilkinton, 94, long time resident of the Rock Springs Community, died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003 at Life Care Center. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home.

Mrs. Frances Elizabeth Polly

Mrs. Frances Elizabeth Andrews Polly, 73, widow of Ostine Polly and retired employee of Weather Tamer, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002, at her residence on Timber Trail.

Services will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Brother Johnny Garrett officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens.

The family will visit with friends from 4-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

The Maury County native was the daughter of the late George Andrews and Sarah Elizabeth Gibson Andrews. She was a member of Ephesus Church of Christ in Pulaski.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Faye (Glenn) Bland and Mrs. Rhea (Willie) Lambert, both of Murfreesboro, and Miss Susan Putman of Columbia; three sons Gary (Brenda) Putman of Columbia, George (Angela) Putman of Pulaski and Marshall (Carol) Putman of Danville, Ala.; one sister, Mrs. Georgene (Tom) Jones of Columbia; one brother, Thomas Elvin (Alcyon) Andrews of Franklin; two stepsons, Terry Polly and Paul Polly, both of Pulaski; 13 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Viola Ziesemer

Mrs. Viola Marie Molish Ziesemer, 80, formerly of Chicago and a resident of Experiment Lane in Columbia, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002, at Maury Regional Hospital.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church of Columbia with the Rev. Mike Dawson officiating. The family will visit with friends from 10 a.m. until time of service at the church. Williams Columbia Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Columbia Music Ministry, 2790 Pulaski Highway, Columbia, TN 38401.

The Sioux Falls, S.D., native was the daughter of the late Eli and Marie Sukkau Molish. She was the widow of John Joacquin Ziesemer. She was a retired supervisor for the Borg-Warner Corporation in Chicago, a company of military auto production. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in which she was active in the Senior Adult Ministry. She was associated with the volunteer program for Dawson McAllister Live for several years.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Norman (Karin) West of Elgin, Ill., and Mrs. Patrick (Schari) Malone of Columbia; a son, John J. Ziesemer Jr. of Apopka, Fla.; six grandchildren, Jefferson (Erica) West of Buffalo, N.Y., Alys West of Plainfield, Ind., Wendy West, a missionary in China, Raymond Malone and Kristy Malone of Columbia and Megan Malone, a student at MTSU in Murfreesboro; four great grandchildren, Jordan Malone of Culleoka, Lee Smith Malone and Brittany Malone, both of Nashville, and Korbin Malone of Columbia; several nieces and nephews, including nieces, Mrs. Albert (Carlie) Davis of California, Mrs. Judy Giordano of Schillerpark, Ill., and Mr. Cindy Boonos of Chicago, Ill.; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Carl and Phyllis Ziesemer of Des Plaines, Ill.

Morrow B. Henson

Mr. Morrow B. Henson, 70, resident of Circle Drive in Mt. Pleasant, died Tuesday, April 2, 2002, in Maury Regional Hospital.

Funeral services for Mr. Henson will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., Friday, in the chapel of Williams Mt. Pleasant Funeral Home with Ray Penna, Randy Kersey and Tommy Hagewood officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens.

The Family will receive friends form 3-9 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home.

He was a native of Maury County, the son of the late Thomas M. "Buck" and Evia Thomason Henson. He was the long time owner and operator of Henson's Grocery in Mt. Pleasant. He was a member of the Main Street Church of Christ in Mt. Pleasant.

Survivors include one sister, Mrs. Robert (Margaret) Thomas of Mt. Pleasant, with whom he had lived since 1989; one nephew, James Henson, Jr., of Nashville; one niece, Mrs. Sue Anne Henson Dickson Slate of Hampton, Va.; two great nieces and one great nephew, all of Hampton, Va.; two special friends, Mrs. Ethridge Copeland and Mrs. O.W. "Daisy" Thomas of Mt. Pleasant.

Pallbearers will be Mickey Warren, Tom Wilson, Bobby Copeland, Danny Copeland, Timmy Copeland, Alan Thomason, Joe Nance, John Orban and Carl Robinette. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Thomason, Paul Carpenter, Hyman Frank, Mike Pruitt, Bob Harris, Edd Brown, Alvin Owens, Hazel Adkisson, Johnny Gibson, John Dugger, Bill Robinette, Donald Hathcoat, Dr. J.0. Williams, Joe Sam Savage, Charles Dale, Royce Nance, Mark McClain, Allen Arnold and the elders and deacons of Main Street Church of Christ.
