Mary Frances Buckner

Graveside service for Miss Buckner will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Arlington Cemetery with Malcolm George officiating. The family will visit with friends from 3-6 p.m. Sunday at the Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant.

The Maury County native was the daughter of the late William Marion and Rosie Patton Buckner. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

She is survived by three sisters, Elizabeth (Melvin) Clark of the Sandy Hook Community near Mt. Pleasant, Willie Mae (James) Walker of Nashville and Margaret Pike of Mt. Pleasant; a brother, Eugene (Shel) Buckner of Maxton, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.

Gladys Evelyn Orr Gary Boner

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Woodlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. Sunday at Woodlawn Funeral Home.

She was the daughter of the late George W. Orr and Laura Butler Orr. She worked at Blue Bell Shoe Factory. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Ross A. Gary and Elias Jasper Boner.

Survivors include stepchildren, Jean Gary Sanders, Mary Sue Boner Adkins and Fred E. Boner; five step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Mildred Mae Burnett Coleman

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Carr and Erwin Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Giles Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Highland Baptist Church.

She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Coleman.

Survivors include sons, Ken and James Coleman of Pulaski and Roy Coleman of San Antonio; a daughter, Lois Golba of Pulaski; a brother, John Thomas Burnett of Old Hickory; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Leon Brown Pullen

Graveside services will be conducted at 9 a.m. Monday at the Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery on McCrory Lane in Nashville with Tome Beaman, Jim Bryson and Chaplain Gene Lovelace officiating.

Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at West Harpeth Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dan Rudy Cancer Center at St. Thomas Hospital or to Alive Hospice.

He was the son of the late Gladstone and Alice Pierson Pullen and stepmother Blanch Pollock Pullen. He was retired from Monsanto Chemical Company and was the owner of Leon's Gun Shop. He served in the U.S. Navy and as sergeant-at-arms of the Tennessee State Senate.

He was a member of the Zion Presbyterian Church of Columbia, Tennessee military Collectors Association, West Nashville Moose Lodge #2221 and the National Rifle Association. He was preceded in death by brothers, James Pullen, William Pullen and Alexander Pullen.

Survivors include his sister, Margaret Emmerling of Rockford, Ill.

Mary Massey

Services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Pettus-Turnbo Funeral Home with James Bond officiating. Interment icon will be in Kidd Cemetery.

The Lewis County native was the daughter of the late Jesse and Lallie Jo Pennington Barber. She was the wife of Bobby Glynn Massey. She was co-owner of the Rug Barn for 35 years. She was a Baptist.

Survivors in addition to her husband, include sons, Derrell and Mike Massey, both of Lawrenceburg; daughters, Cindy Tidwell, Ila Massey and Glynda Scott, all of Lawrenceburg; brothers, Jimmy Barber, John Barber and David Barber, all of Hohenwald; sisters, Jessica Roden of Hohenwald, Wanda Barber of Nashville and Rebecca Barber and Edith Lyell, both of Hohenwald; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Katie Haymer

Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday at McDonald Funeral Home with John Whitmore officiating. Visitation will be from noon-1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery.

She was the daughter of Fannie Tarleton and Will Jackson. She was a homemaker and wife of the late George Haymer. She was a member of St. James Baptist Church.

Survivors include sons, Clyde Haymer and Martin Haymer, both of Nashville, and Travis Haymer of Atlanta, Ga.; daughters, Anna Modena of Lyles, Alice Tubbs of Hohenwald and Martha Vaughn and Billie O'Neal, both of Atlanta, Ga.; stepsons, George Haymer and Charles Haymer; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and several step-grandchildren.

Clarence G. 'Clary' Derick, Jr.

Services were conducted Saturday at Redenius Funeral Home in Gliman, Ill. Burial was in Brenton Cemetery in Piper City, Ill.

The former Columbia resident was a retired Registered Professional Engineer for Stauffer Chemical Company. He was the husband of first wife, Virginia Khym, second wife, Robbie Tankersley and his third marriage on May 26, 1973, to Margaret "Peg" English Braken in Columbia.

He was educated at Saint Joseph's College in Rensselaer, Ind., and Rutgers University in New Jersey. He gave civilian service to the Allied Air Force over Germany in World War II. He was a licensed pilot, avid hunter and a hockey fan. He enjoyed summers at Bayles Lake Loda, Ill., conversation with friends and family and his cats.

Survivors include his daughters, Nancy Abell of Huntersville, N.C., and Patricia Hughes of Everett, Wash.; sons, William and Joyce Derick of Canyon Ferry, Mont., and Link and Celine Derick of Craig,  Colo.; a stepdaughter, Suzzane and Rick Swaffield of Lexington, S.C.; sisters, Dawne Gardiner of Colonial, N.J., and Goldie Markulin of Avenel, N.J.; sisters-in-law, Mary Hayes of Bloomington, Ill., and Theo Redenius of Gilman, Ill.; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents; wives; sisters, June Derick and Hazel Derick; and brothers, Ken Derick, William Derick and Link Derick.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Youth Town of Tennessee, P.O. Box 1385 Jackson, TN 38302 or to Cancer Research.

Martha Valentine

Services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Neal Funeral Home with Marvin Nix officiating. Burial will be in John Lay Cemetery.

She was the daughter of the late Mertie Augusta Drummond and Alton Leon Waldrop. She was retired from Kay Windsor.

Survivors include daughters, Karen Willis of Lawrenceburg and Marna Winkler of Stafford,  Texas; sons, Kevin Valentine of Atlanta, Ga., Robert and Darrell Valentine, both of Houston,  Texas; a brother, Merrill Waldrop of Ypsilanti, Mich.; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Ella Choate Kinzer

She was preceded in death by her husband, H.M. Kinzer Sr.; parents, J.M. Choate and Effie Sparkman Choate; a daughter, Joyce Szabo; a stepdaughter, Sara Gill and a great-granddaughter, Mackenzie Smith.

Survivors include her son, H.M. (Vickie) Kinzer Jr.; daughters, Rena (Jack) Lee, Mable (Bob) Blevins and Carole (Jerry) Wilson; 13 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Kinzer was born in Maury County and attended Bellevue Church of Christ.

Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Woodlawn Chapel of Roses at Woodlawn Funeral Home with Bro. Marlin Connelly and Bro. Steve Blackman officiating. Interment icon will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 1-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Sunday and from 4-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Grandsons Robert Blevins, Randy Tee, Tommy Lee, Steve Wilson, David Wilson and Ray Wilson will serve as pallbearers. Dr. James Wilson will serve as honorary pallbearer.

Betty Howell

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Wednesday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Hughes officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends from 4 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 222 West Seventh St., Columbia, TN, 38401. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com.

The Davidson County native was the daughter of the late Herschel Howell and Elise Lockhart Howell. She lived most of her life in Maury County and was a graduate of Columbia Central High School, a supporter of the Maury County Animal Shelter and a former member of the Columbia Business and Professional Women's Organization. She was a member of First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two uncles, William C. "Bill" (Mary Frances) Howell, Sr. of Knob Creek, James I. (Betty Ann) Howell of Columbia; several cousins; and special friend, Tom McKee of Jackson.

Pallbearers will be A.C. Howell, Gene Howell, Robin Howell, Randy Howell, Mark Howell, Gary Howell, Steve Howell and Doug Howell. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Kennedy, Wayne Kennedy, Jerry Kennedy, Lee Brown, Dr. Thomas Dake, Dr. Amit Choksi, Dr. Ralph Barr, the staff of Alterra Sterling House, the staff of NHC Hillview and former employees of the Social Security office.

Cory Adam Klinzing

Cory Adam Klinzing, 18, formerly of Mt. Pleasant and a resident of Overton Drive in Columbia, died Monday, April 5, 2004, from injuries received in an automobile accident.

Funeral services for Cory will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at the Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Bishop Douglas Fry officiating. Burial will be in the Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors being provided by the Tennessee Army National Guard of Columbia. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 3-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

The Waukegan, Ill. native was the son of Edward Klinzing of Wisconsin and Pam Edwards Kerce of Columbia. He was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School and was currently serving our country in the Tennessee Army National Guard. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by two brothers, Christopher "Chris" (Sondra) Klinzing and Tony Klinzing both of Columbia; a niece, Rayne Klinzing of Columbia; and maternal grandparents, Norman and Rhoda Edwards of Fayetteville.

Pallbearers will be the honor guard of the Tennessee Army National Guard.

Betty Jean Howell

Miss Betty Jean Howell, 71, retired Social Security employee and resident of Oakdale Drive, died Monday, April 5, 2004, at NHC Hillview.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Wednesday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Hughes officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens. Lindsey Sharp

PULASKI - Lindsey Brooke Sharp, 20, died Tuesday, April 6, 2004, at Maury Regional Hospital.

Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at the Carr & Erwin Funeral Home with Doug Plumlee officiating. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Giles Memory Garden.

The Maury County native was the daughter of Lesa Malone of Pulaski and Tim Sharp of Greenville, S.C. and step-daughter of the late Roger Malone.

Survivors in addition to her parents, include a sister, Laura Sharp of Pulaski; grandfather, Jimmy Sharp of Cornersville; grandmother, Mary Frances Witherow of Lewisburg; and a great-grandmother, Sally Hargrove of Lewisburg.

Alice Yant

PULASKI - Alice Jean Collins Yant, 71, died Tuesday, April, 6, 2004, at Maury Regional Hospital.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Carr & Erwin Funeral Home. Burial will be in Giles Memory Garden.

The Giles County native was the daughter of the late J.E. and Cullie Allen Collins. She was the wife of the late William "Bill" Yant.

Survivors include her sons, Perry Yant of Prospect, Mike Yant of Pulaski; a daughter, Peggy Jett of Pulaski; a sister, Cleo Allen of Greenbrier; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Barbara Finney

Mrs. Barbara Wayman Finney, 66, widow of James I. Finney, Jr. and former resident of Columbia, died Wednesday, April 7, 2004, in Knoxville.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Knoxville with Dr. Fredrich Schilling, Jr. officiating. Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel is in charge of arrangements in Knoxville.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Wilkes Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Williamson officiating. The family will visit with friends immediately following the service at Turnhill Farm, home of John and Sandy Finney, on Pullen Mill Road. Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com.

Memorials may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 6500 Northshore Drive, Knoxville, TN 37919 or James K. Polk Memorial Association, P. O. Box 471, Columbia, TN 38402.

The Kingsport native was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Knoxville where she had served as Elder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees. Mrs. Finney was the past president of Blount Mansion Association, Tennessee Ornithological Society, and James K. Polk Memorial Association. With her late husband, she had operated Fidelity Sales Corporation in Knoxville.

Survivors include one daughter, Virginia F. Ellis of Knoxville; two sons, James I. (Faser) Finney, Ill. of Richmond, Va.; John Wayman (Sandra) Finney of Culleoka; grandchildren, James I. Finney, IV and Stewart Davis Finney, both of Richmond, Va.; Lili K. Finney and Larkin C. Finney, both of Culleoka; and aunt, Mrs. J. L. Burley of Greenville, S.C.
