ETHRIDGE - Vera Barnickle Moore, 85, of Ethridge, died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2004, at Hillside Hospital in Pulaski.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Neal Funeral Home. Burial will be in Liberty Hill Cemetery.

She was the daughter of the late Tennie Clifton and James Carson Barnickle. She was the wife of the late Alvin James Henry Moore and a member of Pleasant Valley Church of Christ.

Survivors include daughters, Gertrude LaCroix of Ashland City, Cora Lee Gray and Patricia Wells, both of Pulaski, and Martha Mize of Anthony Hill; sons, Doyce Allen Moore of Lawrenceburg and Charles Moore of Kedron; a sister, Grace Womble of Lawrenceburg; 24 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

GOODSPRING - Jenny Phillips, 49, of Goodspring, died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2004, at her residence.

Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at the Carr & Erwin Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

The Pulaski native was the daughter of Thomas Gilliam of Pulaski and Barbara Anderson of Lewisburg. She was a nurse and was preceded in death by a daughter, Christie Dunnavant.

Survivors in addition to her parents include her husband, Jerry Phillips of Goodspring; sons, Micky Dunnavant of Birmingham, Ala., Byron Phillips of Athens, Ala., and Craig Phillips and Tommy Phillips, both of Goodspring; stepfather, James Anderson of Lewisburg; a brother, Keith Gilliam of Lewisburg; a sister, Pam Gilliam of Lexington, Ky.; and a granddaughter.

Doris Evelyn Sealy Ragsdale
Friday, Feb 27, 2004

Graveside services will be conducted at 4:30 p.m. Friday at Rose Hill Cemetery with Joe Rhodes officiating. The family will visit with friends from 24 p.m. Friday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 1212, Columbia, TN 38402. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com.

The Maury County native was the daughter of Polly Parrott Sealy of Columbia and the late Truman Sealy. She was a 1964 graduate of Culleoka High School, a homemaker and attended the Baptist Church.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Paul Ragsdale of Columbia; one daughter, Cheryl (Michael) Tate of Biloxi, Miss.; one son, Ricky Ragsdale of Nashville; one brother, Wayne Sealy of Columbia; and two grandchildren, Chanel Tate and Kane Ragsdale.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Janice Sealy Bowie.

Family members will be pallbearers.

Mr. William Felix Campbell
Friday, Feb 27, 2004

Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Jack White and Andrew Brown officiating. Burial will be in Jones Cemetery. The family will visit with friends from 48 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com.

The Maury County native was the son of the late Willie Campbell and Lucie Veach Campbell. He was married to Ila Johnson Campbell who preceded him in death Sept. 10, 1995. He was a member of New Lasea Church of Christ.

Survivors include one son, J.W. (Dorothy) Campbell of Columbia; one daughter, Darlene (Dwight) Groves of Columbia; four grandchildren, Jason (Heather) Campbell, Jeremy (Amy) Campbell, Pamela Groves and Stephanie Groves (Michael) Fisher; and three great-grandchildren, Coy Campbell, Madison Fisher and Nicholas Campbell.

Pallbearers will be Shelby Carpenter, Jimmy Lunn, Hershel Campbell, Horace Glenn, Kelley Collins, Willard Temes, Jason Campbell, Jeremy Campbell and Michael Fisher.

Bessie Armstrong Venson
Friday, Feb 27, 2004

Visitation with the family will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, with services to follow at noon with Elder Glenn Geard III officiating. The body will lie-in-state Friday at V.K. Ryan & Son Funeral Home. Burial is in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens.

The Maury County native was the daughter of the late James and Beatrice Armstrong. She attended the Maury County school system, graduating from Clark Training High school.

She also attended Tennessee State University and college in Alabama. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Venson Sr.; and a son, William Venson Jr. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, John Dexter Armstrong, James Armstrong Jr. and George Armstrong.

Survivors include her daughters, Charlotte (Dewayne) Simmons and Chaniquia Venson, both of Columbia; sons, Dimitri Venson and Jeffrey (Sissie) Venson, both of Columbia; four grandchildren, Brice and Darryl Simmons, Jarika and Jamal Venson; three sisters, Marion (James) Hardy, Sylvia Dobbins and Verladia (James) Jones; a brother, Johnny (Marshall) Armstrong; and several nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

Louise Bailey Sowell
Friday, Feb 27, 2004

Services for Mrs. Sowell will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Rick Points officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends from 5-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

The Lawrence County native was the daughter of the late Comer P. and Vesta LaCroix Bailey and widow of Joseph A. "Joe" Sowell, who died in 1990. She was a homemaker and member of the Church of Christ.

She is survived by her devoted sister, Margaret Lucille Cummings of Nashville; cousins, Geneva Cleveland of Detroit, Patty Howell of Dickson and Helen Bailey and Christine Love, both of Nashville; and many other devoted cousins.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Eddie Paul Hinson
Friday, Feb 27, 2004

Services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday at Freedom Holy Temple Church in Hohenwald with Glen Floyd officiating. Burial is to follow in the Downey Cemetery.

He was the son of the late Hercules Elton Hinson and Lula Pauline Duncan Hinson of Hohenwald. He was a security guard for Martha C. Enterprises and served in the National Guard.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Nettie Sue Holt Hinson, of Hohenwald; sons, Anthony Paul Hinson, Charles Michael Hinson, Barry Todd Hinson, Michael Eric Hinson, Jason Alan Hinson and Nathan David Hinson, all of Hohenwald; a daughter, Gaylyn Morris of Hohenwald; brothers, Charles Ray Hinson, James Elton Hinson and Ronald Lee Hinson, all of Hohenwald; stepchildren, Nathan Wheeler Hensley, Linda Odom and Paula Hensley, all of Hohenwald; 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

McDonald Funeral Home of Hohenwald is in charge of arrangements.

Georgia Mae Ezell

She was the daughter of the late John Leighton and Lona Foster Leighton. She was retired from Salant & Salant and a member of the Springer Road Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband, Preston Ezell.

Survivors include brothers, Boyd Leighton and J.E. Leighton Jr., both of Lawrenceburg; and a sister, Mary Frances Rau of Lawrenceburg.

Hazel Tiller

Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at McDonald Funeral Home with Jim Patton officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Centerville Cemetery.

The Giles County native was the daughter of the late Gertrude Wiseman and Lon Patterson. She was the wife of the late Ben Tiller. She was a member of Centerville First Baptist Church. She was also preceded in death by a son, David Tiller.

Survivors include a daughter, Pattye VanFossen of Estill Springs; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Clara 'Sissy' Spencer

Services will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Saturday from Woodfin Chapel in Smyrna. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the chapel. Burial will be in Elliot Cemetery.

The former Maury County resident was the daughter of the late Charlie Joe and Margaret Windrow Dalton. The Rutherford County native was the retired owner of Sissy's Restaurant in Smyrna. She was a member of the United Methodist Church.

Survivors include daughters, Bonnie Preston of Murfreesboro and Connie Reynolds of Smyrna; a son, Keith Maupin of Murfreesboro; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Lawrence Funeral Home and Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements.

Dovie Krause

Services were conducted Wednesday by graveside at the Giles Memory Garden with George Ferguson officiating.

The Minor Hill native was the daughter of the late Morris and Ollie Price Knight. She was a retired seamstress. She was also preceded in death by a son, David Hunter.

Survivors include daughters, Nita Thurman and Elizabeth Parker, both of Pulaski; a sister, Maudine Waddle of Lake Wales, Fla.; 11 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Alta Powers
Monday, Mar 1, 2004

Mrs. Alta Nowlin Powers, 88, a longtime Mt. Pleasant resident, died Saturday, Feb. 28, 2004, at NHC Columbia.

Services for Mrs. Powers will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with the Rev. Phillip Wright officiating.

Visitation with the family will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Arlington Cemetery.

The Maury County native was the daughter of the late Herschel Reams Nowlin and the late Annie Potts Nowlin and was the widow of O.B. Powers who died in 1978.

She was a 1934 graduate of Hay Long High School. She was a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant.

She is survived by a daughter, Sally (John) Matlock of Columbia; a son, Richard R. (Pat) Powers of Mt. Pleasant; one granddaughter, Stephanie A. Powers of Mt. Pleasant; three grandsons, Michael J. (Margaret) Matlock of Dallas,  Texas, Matthew P. (Shannon) Matlock of Columbia, Mo., Dr. R. Reams Powers (Carey) of Columbia; three great-grandchildren, Betsy Matlock and Sam Matlock of Dallas,  Texas, and Margaret Patton Powers of Columbia.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 202 S. Main St., Mt. Pleasant, TN 38474.

Pallbearers will be Jim Lindsey, Willie Boyd, Walter Locke, Paul Sands, Tom Hardin, Wally Couch, Roger Gilliam, Vace Brummal and Gary Kennedy.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant and the nurses and staff at NHC, Columbia.
