James Hugh Ross, 83, of Etowah, died early Friday morning, Sept. 24, 2004 at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 27, 2004 in the South Chapel of Bordwine Funeral home with the Rev. Shaun King and the Rev. James A. Hoyal officiating. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home prior to the service.
Family and friends will assemble at Bordwine Funeral Home at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004 and proceed to Green Hill cemetery for the 10 a.m. committal service.

DeLayne Cochran
DeLayne Cochran, 69, of Englewood, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005, at Bristol Regional Hospital.Graveside services will be held at 4 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005, at Cochran cemetery. There will be no formal visitation.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Englewood Public Library.

Kathleen Ann Webb, 68, of Englewood, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005, at Woods Memorial Hospital.
Private services for the family will be held at a later date and there will be no formal visitation.

Robert "Robbie" McClary
Robert "Robbie" McClary, 44, of Etowah, died Thursday, April 7, 2005, at Woods Memorial Hospital. Services will be 8 p.m. Saturday, April 9, 2005, Bordwine Funeral Home, with visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday. Burial will be 1 p.m. Sunday, Green Hill cemetery. Arrangements by Bordwine Funeral Home.

Herbert R. Brooks
Herbert R. Brooks, 84, of Miamisburg, Ohio and formerly of Etowah, died Sunday night, Sept. 4, 2005, at Sycamore Hospital in Miamisburg. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10th at McMinn Memory Gardens in Athens with full military honors. Brother Will Hughes will officiate. There will be no formal visitation held.

Jacquillon "Nannie" Hamilton
Jacquillon "Nannie" Hamilton, 66, of Calhoun, died Saturday, Sept. 3, 2005, at Erlanger Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7th in the South Chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Maney officiating. Burial will follow the service at Sunset Memorial Gardens near Cleveland.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Bordwine Funeral Home.

Robert Lea "R.L." Sewell
Robert Lea "R.L." Sewell, 91, of Etowah, died Friday, Sept. 2, 2005, at Woods Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, 2005 in the South Chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with the Rev. Marvin Randolph officiating and concluding with the Celebration of Life video. Burial will follow in Green Hill cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Erle Wayne Buckner
Erle Wayne Buckner, 69, of Etowah, died early Friday morning, Sept. 22, 2006, at his residence.

A native of McMinn County and former resident of Forest Park, Ga., he was a son of the late Richard and Zoe Axley Buckner.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, he was retired from Georgia Power, and was a member of Goodsprings Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by one sister, Linda B. Smith.

Survivors include his wife, Melva Loveday Buckner of Etowah; one son and daughter-in-law, Jeff W. and Patricia K. Buckner of Athens; three grandchildren, Brandon Wayne Buckner, Leah Driver and Nathaniel Driver; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Edgar L. Buckner of Detroit, Mich., and Harold and Rosie Buckner of Etowah; one sister and brother-in-law, Wanda B. and Edwin Pettitt of McDonough, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 24th, at Goodsprings Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Huff and the Rev. Oran Creasman officiating. Burial will follow at Goodsprings cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday in the North Chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home.

Anna Josephine Newman Bowers
Anna Josephine Newman Bowers, 89, of Etowah, died Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 20, 2006, at Etowah Health Care Center.

A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, she was a daughter of the late James Hugh “Bunk” Newman and Mary Margaret Caroline Victoria “Addie” Adeline McNabb. She was the youngest of 12 children.

She was a member of Mars Hill United Methodist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis M. Bowers; two daughters, Faye Goodman and Bobbie Melton; one stepson, Ora Bowers; two grandsons, Mike Bowers and John Mason; and 11 brothers and sisters.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Doyle and Shelia Bowers of Englewood; one daughter, Wanda Mason of Portland, Ore.; two stepsons and spouses, E.L. and Margie Bowers of Etowah, and Clarence and Charlsie Bowers of Knoxville; one step-daughter-in-law, Lola Bowers of Amhurst, Virginia; one son-in-law, Bill Melton of LaGrange, Georgia; 24 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23rd, in the South Chapel with the Rev. David Graybeal and the Rev. Jeff Blanchett officiating, and will conclude with the Celebration of Life video. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 8 p.m. prior to the service. Family and friends will assemble at Mars Hill cemetery at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 24th, for the committal service which will conclude with the White Dove Liberation Ceremony.

Memorials may be made to the Mars Hill cemetery Fund, c/o Eugene Kelly, 496 Co. Rd. 500, Englewood, TN 37329.

Roy Clinton Lindsey

Roy Clinton Lindsey, 87, of Chattanooga, former Etowah resident, died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2006.

A native of Crandall, Ga., he was a son of the late Charles and Edith Gilliland Lindsey. He was a member of Jones Memorial United Methodist Church, and a Mason in the Etowah, TN lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Inez Hopper Lindsey of Chattanooga; one son, Jim Lindsey of Trenton, Ga.; one daughter, Glenna Anne Bowmaster of Atlanta, Ga.; five grandchildren, James R. Lindsey, Jr., Virginia Hughes, Ann Beavers, Carrie Spainhour and Scott Bowmaster; 6 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; one brother, J.C. Lindsey of Atlanta, Ga.; one sister, Stella Crumbley of Atlanta, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2006, at Green Hill cemetery with the Rev. David Tabor officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3rd, at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 404 South Moor Road, and again from 1 – 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Bordwine Funeral Home prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Chattanooga.

Billy Charles Lowe

Billy Charles Lowe, 70, of Etowah, died Sunday afternoon, Oct. 1, 2006, at Bradley Memorial Hospital in Cleveland.

A native of Polk County, and resident of McMinn County for most of his life, he was a son of the late Charlie and Mae Painter Lowe. He was of the Baptist faith, a veteran of the US Army serving during the Korean War, and a well-known floor and carpet installer. He is preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Garrison and Ruth Goforth; and one brother, Bobby Lowe.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Simmons Lowe of Etowah; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Doug and Jeanette Lowe of Etowah, Steve and Susan Lowe of Athens, and Johnny Lowe of Benton; one daughter, Rhonda Yarber of Etowah; three grandchildren and spouse, Travis and Katrice Lowe, Tyler Yarber and Tasha Lowe; five step-grandchildren, Matthew Mellott, Kacy Guffey, Megan McAllister, Drew Hovington, and Danielle Hovington; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4th, in the Sough Chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with the Rev. Wilford Wright officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home prior to the service.

Anne Holsclaw

Ann Holsclaw, 56, of Decatur, former Etowah resident, died Thursday evening, Sept. 28, 2006, at Brookwood Nursing Home in Decatur.

A native of Knoxville, and resident of McMinn County for most of her life, she was a daughter of the late Roy Dunn “Buddy” Holsclaw and Mary Frances Houk Holsclaw. She was a lifelong member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, and was preceded in death by one aunt, Alma Frances Holsclaw Newman.

Right, wrong or indifferent, she was known to live with a passion for the moment at hand. Thus, she was affectionately called “Crazy Ann” by many of her friends. Those who were her friends admired her courage and fierce independence. Those who loved her understood her complexity. All those who knew her were touched by her strength of spirit, unconditional love, and generosity. Her unselfishness was demonstrated often in her sensitivity to the needy, giving of what little she had left during hard times.

Survivors include one brother, Roy Franklin Holsclaw of Etowah; and one cousin, Susan Newman Cole.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3rd, at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, 923, Ohio Ave., Etowah, TN 37331.

Marguerite Florence Lewis
August 16, 1926 - July 12, 2009
Marguerite H. Lewis, 82, of Etowah, passed away Sunday, July 12, 2009 in an Etowah hospital. She retired as a legal secretary.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John A. Hall Sr. and Dottie Walker Hall; daughter, Gloria Jean Lewis; brothers, John A. Hall Jr., Bill Hall and Bob Hall; and sisters, Katherine Ries and Elizabeth Crawford.
Survivors include her children, Ron Lewis of Etowah; granddaughter, Angela Thoreson; and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 16, 2009 at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home of Etowah with Reverend Shane Arnold officiating. Interment icon will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with a white dove release ceremony concluding the service.
Visitation will be at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 on Wednesday, July 15, 2009.

Elmer Reece Cook

Elmer R. Cook, 80, of Englewood, passed away Sunday, July 12, 2009 at his residence. He was born August 21, 1928 in McMinn Co. and was the son of the late Larkin and Iva Cook. He lived in Englewood until 1954,when he moved to Irving, Texas. In 2004 he returned to Englewood where he lived with his sister, Gladys until his death.
He was preceded in death by his wife Helen Dewberry Cook, sisters, Amanda Cook, Thelma Cook, Eula Faye Cook and Beulah Cook; brothers Kenneth Cook and David Cook; and step-children Johnny Dewberry, Roy Dewberry, Gerald Dewberry and Dorothy Skala.
Survivors include sisters, Gladys Martin of Englewood, Sue Alberts of Washington, and Lorene Duncan of Athens; brothers, James Cook of Athens and Bobby Cook of Etowah; and several step-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at 8:00 pm in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home of Etowah with Reverend Allan Watson officiating. Interment icon will be Thursday morning at 11:00 am in the Chestuee Methodist Church cemetery with a white dove release ceremony concluding the service.
The family will meet with friends at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 Wednesday evening prior to the service.
