James Eric Benson
James Eric Benson, 26, of Athens, died Friday, June 9, 2006, at Athens Regional Medical Center from injuries sustained in motorcycle accident.
A native of Cleveland, and a longtime resident of McMinn County, he was a former employee of Waupaca in Etowah and was a member of Union Grove Baptist Church in Decatur.
Survivors include his father, David Howard of Athens; his mother, Ebra Haney Benson of Athens; one brother and sister-in-law, Luke and Camille Benson of Knoxville; one sister and brother-in-law, Jenny and Chris Partain of Alcoa; his grandparents, Earl and Dot Haney and Annie K. Haney, all of Athens; two nephews, Wyatt Parker and Benson Evan Partain; and many caring uncles, aunts, and cousins.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Ziegler Funeral Home with the Rev. Jimmy Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in Sullins cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Dustin Nelson, Brandon Burns, Justin Adams, Frankie and Keith Boggess, Shane Arrants and James Straton.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Paul Eugene Stoll
Paul Eugene Stoll, 73, of Niota, died Sunday, June 11, 2006, at Life Care Center of Athens.
A native of Wellsville, Penn., he was a son of the late Samuel and Sadie Suttle Stoll. He was a former resident of Arcadia, Fla., and was a retired carpenter. He was a former member of AMVETS and served in the Korean Conflict in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include two sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and Dick Sweigart of North Ft. Myers, Fla., and Patricia and Henry Franklin of St. James City, Fla.
There will be no formal funeral service.
Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home of Athens is in charge of arrangements.

Alfred Henry Newman
Alfred Henry Newman, 80, of Delano, died Monday morning, June 12, 2006, at McMinn Memorial Nursing Home in Etowah.
A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, he was a son of the late Horace and Lula Kelly Newman. He was retired from Maytag; was an avid gardener; was a TSSAA and ASA softball official for 33 years; and was a member of Delano Baptist Church, serving as the custodian there for more than 30 years. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Jack Newman, H.R. Newman and Reathel Newman; and one brother-in-law, J. Herbert Franks.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Mildred Jane Tullock Newman of Delano; one daughter and son-in-law, Cathy Newman and Robert Leamon of Delano; two sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Karen Newman and Rick and Cathy Newman, all of Delano; five grandchildren, Angie Breeden, Cheryl Perry, Daniel Leamon, Josh Newman and Kevin Newman; five great-grandchildren, Tyler Morgan, Taylor Breeden, Dylan Perry, Jase Perry and Anakin Leamon; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Patsy and Emmett Manning of Henegar, Ala., and Barbara Franks of Warner Robins, Ga.; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Kenneth and Inez Newman of Delano, J.L. and Bernice Newman of Benton, and Floyd and Bobbie Newman and Wendell and Margaret Newman, all of Delano; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Tuesday in the south chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with Dr. Harold Curtis officiating. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 9 a.m. Wednesday and will proceed to Delano cemetery for the 10 a.m. burial.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Delano Baptist Church Building Fund, Brenda Watkins, Treasurer.

Neville D. Anderson
Neville D. Anderson, 72, of Decatur, died Monday, June 12, 2006, at Etowah Health Care Center.
A native of Louisville, Ky., and a former resident of Hixson, he was a resident of Decatur for the past six years. He was a son of the late John T. and Lillie Presley, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Bud, Harvey and Eugene Anderson.
Survivors include his wife, Iris Walker Anderson of Decatur; two sons, Neville Scott Anderson and Jeffrey Anderson, both of Deltona, Fla.; one stepson, Ted Wesley Beahl of Decatur; two stepdaughters, Melissa Dee Beahl of Decatur, and Tracy Lee Hodge of Soddy-Daisy; 13 grandchildren; five sisters, Vivian Hayes of Phoenix, Ariz., Ellen Anderson of Alaska, Lucille Fidas of Aurora, Ill., and Mary Mahoney and Joyce Anderson, both of Louisville, Ky.; two brothers, Joe Anderson and Walter “Andy” Anderson, both of Louisville, Ky.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Thursday in the north chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home.

Barbara Dale Stanton
Barbara Dale Stanton, 56, of Athens, was born into this world on June 23, 1949, and sadly departed from it on Monday, June 12, 2006, at Athens Regional Medical Center. She would would have turned 57 years old on June 23.
A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, she was a daughter of the late Raymond Solomon “Dick” and Helen Grant Stanton, and was a former coordinator at Athens Stove Works for many years until it closed.
Survivors include two sisters, a very close sister, Linda Sue Long, with whom she lived until she passed, and Norma Jean Stanton, both of Athens; three brothers, Raymond “Buddy” Stanton of Riceville, and Ronnie and James Stanton, both of Athens; a special nephew to whom she was a second Mother, James Long, and his wife, Christi, and their children, Cody, Joshua, Caitlynn and Jacob, all of Cleveland; and one niece, Niki Renfro of Kingston.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Ziegler Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Shirk officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Grove cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

David Franklin Harrod
David Franklin Harrod, 54, of Athens, died Sunday, May 7, 2006, at his home.
He was born Sept. 2, 1951 to Felix and the late Kathryn Grayson Harrod. A native of McMinn County and raised in Athens, he was a member of Keith Memorial United Methodist Church.
A 1969 graduate of McMinn County High School, a 1973 graduate of Tennessee Technological University, and a 1976 graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Law, he practiced law in Athens for 29 years. In 1982, he was elected to serve as a Circuit Court Judge for the Tenth Judicial District. He retired in 1986 and was a founding partner of Carter, Harrod & Cunningham, which is now Carter, Harrod & Willhite, PLLC. He served as counsel to Athens Federal Community Bank, Citizens National Bank, Athens Utilities Board, Bowater Newsprint and the McMinn County Board of Education. He was licensed to practice in the state of Tennessee, the U.S. District Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals, the Sixth Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court. He was a member of the McMinn-Meigs Bar Association for which he served as president in 1988-1989. He was a member of the Tennessee Bar Association, Tennessee Defense Lawyers Association, Tennessee Bar Foundation and Tennessee Supreme Court Historical Society. He was also a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers (ACTL). He was a member of the Citizens National Bank Board of Directors, Athens City School Board, Coordinated Charities Board and various committees of Keith Memorial United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Vicki Newton Harrod; one daughter and son-in-law, Laurie Lea and Hunter Hallenberg, all of Athens; two sons and one daughter-in-law, David Franklin Harrod Jr., and Andrew Grayson and Cara Greene Harrod, all of Knoxville; two grandsons, Grayson Thomas Harrod and Jackson Andrew Harrod, both of Knoxville; his father, Felix D. Harrod of Athens; his grandmother, Gertrude Guffey Harrod of Athens; one brother and sister-in-law, Doug and Karen Harrod of Athens; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Steva Harrod of Athens, and Trudy and Jim Evans of Knoxville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 10:35 a.m. Wednesday at Keith Memorial United Methodist Church.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to noon and from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Keith Memorial United Methodist Church.

Molly Whitted Morrison McKenzie
Molly Whitted Morrison McKenzie, 87, of Decatur, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Nov. 11, 2007, at her home.
A native and lifelong resident of Meigs County, she was a daughter of the late Alozo Steve and Caldonia Watson Whitted. She was the oldest member of Morning View Baptist Church, and was preceded in death by her late husbands, G.E. Morrison and Jim McKenzie; five brothers, Kim, Andy, Miles, Rance and Jess Whitted; and one grandson, Gary Franklin Dake.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Stacy Wattenbarger and Christine and T.F. Dake, all of Decatur; three granddaughters and spouses, Kim and Mark Kennedy, Sherry and Goose Gossett and Misty and Ritchie Lawson, all of Decatur; one grandson, Tommy Dake of Ringgold, Ga.; 10 great-grandchildren, Mallory Dake, Breanna, Dustin, Justin and Graci Kennedy, Kala and Ethan Gossett and Brandon, Gavin and Brylee Lawson; several nieces and nephews; and special friends and caregivers, Alice Silver, Roena \"Sis\" Walden, Elizabeth Runyan and Trinity Hospice.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Ziegler Funeral Home with the Rev. Jamie Lonas and the Rev. D.C. Kirk officiating. Burial will follow in Decatur cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Melvin Coleman
Melvin Coleman, 79, of Loudon, died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2007, at Parkwest Hospital.
A native of Loudon, he was raised in Tellico Plains, and had lived in Athens for many years. A son of the late Lushe and Meadie Lynn Coleman, he was the founder of Knoxville Avenue Baptist Church, where he had served as deacon and music director. He retired from Athens Bed Company, and was preceded in death by his first wife, Alma Jean Hampton Coleman; and three sisters, Gladys Edmonson, Ester Harris and Elsie Phillips.
Survivors include his wife, Grace Haun Coleman of Loudon; two daughters and sons-in-law, Vickie and Eddie Crabtree of Riceville, and Alishia and John Sneed of Decatur; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Ricky and Sandy Coleman and Jeff Coleman, all of Athens; eight grandchildren, Marietha Silvers, Gabe Coleman, Vince Crabtree, Jennifer Randolf, Ben Sneed, Doyle Coleman, Matt Sneed and Chucky Coleman; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Bessie Hammonds and Lena Bell Wilson, both of Athens; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Ziegler Funeral Home with the Rev. Henry Jones and the Rev. Chris Hampton officiating. Burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in McMinn Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Matt and Ben Sneed, David Silvers, Joe Roberts, George Ratledge and Gabe Coleman.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

William Kenneth "Bill" Heater Sr.
William Kenneth "Bill" Heater Sr., 78, of Athens, died unexpectedly on Saturday morning, Nov. 10, 2007, at a Cleveland, Ohio, hospital.
He was a native of Dover, N.J., and was a son of the late Walter and Nellie Heater Dietrich. Following his high school graduation in New Jersey, he pitched for the Youngstown minor league baseball team, a Phillies farm club, in the early 1950s. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
He came to Athens in 1956 to attend Tennessee Wesleyan College, where he played basketball and baseball, and served as president of his class for two years. He later transferred to the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, where he earned his bachelor\'s degree in 1959 and his master of science degree in 1974.
He served as the mechanical drafting instructor at Tennessee Vocational Technical School for 21 years, retiring in 1986. In continuing his love for athletics, he took up softball and played for the Citizens National Bankers from 1966 to 1971, and was named to the Athens ASA All-star Team of the Decade.
He served local youth sports as a baseball coach for 9- to 15-year-olds for 16 seasons, as well as YMCA Junior Basketball Leagues. He was an avid golfer and member of Springbrook Golf Country Club for the last 39 years. He was the owner of a local driving range, where he taught the fundamentals of the golf swing.
He was a member of Keith Memorial United Methodist Church. He will be missed by family and his many friends for whom he showed great love and affection. His dedication and commitment to maintaining perfection in personal physical conditioning will serve as motivation for years to come for all who knew and respected him.
Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, Ken and Pam Heater of Englewood, Mark and Tricia Heater of Jupiter, Fla., and Ted Heater and special friend, Gayle Petitt, both of Athens; nine grandchildren; and the mother of his children and special friend, Peg Heater of Knoxville.
A memorial service will be 5 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Jerry Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Jason Gattis officiating. The cremains will be interred at a later date.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the William K. Heater Sr. Scholarship Fund for Junior Youth Golf Programs in the Athens, TN area, c/o William T. Heater, 837 Keith Lane, Athens, TN 37303.

Lucien L. Dionne
Lucien L. Dionne, 86, of Englewood, died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2007, at his home.
A native of Lawrence, Mass., and a resident of McMinn County for years, he was a son of the late Eugene and Aurore Pellerin Dionne, and was a member of St. Mary\'s Catholic Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, and was retired from Western Electric Telephone Company. He was preceded in death by one brother, Joseph \"Chick\" Dionne; and his stepmother, Virginia LeFevere Dionne.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Laurencia Demer Dionne of Englewood; one daughter and son-in-law, Paulette and Arthur Croteau Sr. of Gallatin; two sons and daughters-in-law, Lucien Jr. and Helen Dionne of Riceville, and Charles and Marie Dionne of Tazewell; 10 grandchildren, Arthur Croteau Jr. and wife, Karen, of Woodbridge, Md., Paul Croteau and wife, Fran, of Port Charlotte, Fla., Robert Croteau and wife, Heidi, of Hendersonville, Eugene "Gene" Croteau of Port Charlotte, Fla., Genevieve Benitez and wife, Gonzalo, of Troy, N.C., James Dionne and wife, Jennifer, of Charlotte, N.C., Jason Dionne and wife, Kerrie, of Troy, N.C., Anna Lyn Khouarerosa of Chattanooga, Meliza Williams and husband, Mark, of Jackson, and Summer Grey and husband, Jeff, of Tazewell; 18 great-grandchildren; one sister, Lucille Beaudoin of Nashua, N.H.; one sister-in-law, Teresa Dionne of Salem, N.H.; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary\'s Catholic Church with the Rev. Dr. James Vick officiating.
The family will receive friends immediately following the Mass at the church.
