William M. Lening

Services for William Mason Lening, 81, Norene, who died Wednesday, March 18, at University Medical Center, Lebanon, are set for 10 a.m. Saturday at Partlow Funeral Chapel, Lebanon, with burial in Wilson County Memorial Park. The Rev. Phil DePriest will officiate.

His parents were the late Marvin Cecil Lening and Mary Cleve Fry Lening.

Survivors include a daughter, Pat (William) Bingham of Bell Buckle; two brothers, Otho Marvin Lening, Doyle Dean Lening, both of Lebanon; sister, Lillian Pauline Moser of Old Hickory; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was an employee of the Veterans Administration.

Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today and Friday at the funeral home.

Kimberly D. Mitchner

Services for Kimberly Dawn Estep Mitchner, 31, La Vergne, who died at home Tuesday, March 17, are set for 11 a.m. Friday at Woodfin Chapel, Smyrna, with burial in Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens at 2 p.m. Friday. The Rev. Milton Hicks will officiate.

She is survived by three sons, Joshua Ryan Mitchner, Daniel Todd Mitchner, Justin Brandon Mitchner, all of La Vergne; father and stepmother, Wayne and Jeanne Estep of La Vergne; mother and stepfather, Ruth and Henry Kelton of Nashville; and two sisters, Tonya Anderson of Nashville, and Sherry Taylor of Jackson.

A native of Nashville, she was a child care worker.

Family and friends will be pallbearers.

Visitation will be held after 2 p.m. today at Woodfin Chapel.

Eugene Sutton Todd

Services for Eugene Sutton Todd, 91, East Gum Road, Murfreesboro, who died Wednesday, March 18, at the Middle Tennessee Medical Center, are set for 1 p.m. Friday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel with burial in Thyatira cemetery. John Young will officiate.

A native of Cannon County, his parents were the late George and Pearl Lowe Todd, and his wife was the late Mattie Eva Hughes Todd who died in 1994.

He is survived by he son, James Hoyt Todd of Wartrace; sister, Mary Messick of Murfreesboro; two grandchildren, James E. Underwood, Eugene C. Todd; and three great-grandchildren.

A member of the Church of Christ, he was a salesman for Todd's Storm Window Co. of Murfreesboro.

Visitation will be held after 4 p.m. today at Woodfin Memorial Chapel.

Tennie Travis

Services for Mrs. Tennie Lee Qualls Travis, 83, of East Vine Street, who died Saturday, Feb. 7, at Middle Tennessee Medical Center of heart failure, were held 1 p.m. today at Jennings & Ayers Funeral Home followed by burial in Hurricane cemetery, with Joe Hopper, Jerry Whitworth and Phil DePriest officiating.

Mrs. Travis was the daughter of the late Lum D. Travis and Sallie Ann Travis. Her husband was Frank Henry Qualls, who died in 1955, and she later married Hall Travis who died in 1962. She was preceded in death by a son, Joe Frank Qualls.

She is survived three sons, James W. Qualls, Donald Edward Qualls and Wallace Lee Qualls; three daughters, including Mary Ann Victory, Dorothy Jean Faulk and Charlotte M. Thomas, all of Murfreesboro; 12 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Qualls was a native of Coffee County, and lived most of her life in Murfreesboro as a homemaker. She was a member of the Bridge Avenue Church of Christ.

Visitation was held Sunday at Jennings & Ayers Funeral Home.

Funeral arrangements for Mrs. Mattie P. Baskett, 69, Murfreesboro, who died Sunday, Feb. 8, are incomplete and will be announced later by Scales & Sons Funeral Home.

Juanita L. McCord

Private services for Mrs. Juanita L. McCord, 49, Murfreesboro, who died Saturday, Feb. 7, at Middle Tennessee Medical Center, will be held at a later date.

A native of Davidson County, her father was Malcolm Patterson Harris Jr., who died Feb. 15, 1997.

She is survived by her husband, Wesley E. McCord Sr. of Murfreesboro; mother, Lela Williams Harris of Murfreesboro; three children, Wesley E. McCord Jr., Anns McCord, Kandyce McCord, all of Murfreesboro; three sisters, Shirley Rivers of La Vergne, Bonnie Lockhart of Murfreesboro, Wanda Trimble of Madison; two brothers, Richard Harris of Hermitage, and Mike Harris of Donelson.

A member of the Baptist church, she was a homemaker and registered nurse.

A trust fund in her memory has been established and memorials may be directed to: Mrs. McCord, 126 Searcy St., Lot #54, Murfreesboro, Tenn., 37129.

Woodfin Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Walter Forrest Sloan

Services for Walter Forrest Sloan, 78, Lascassas, who died Sunday, Feb. 8, at AdamsPlace of heart failure after an extended illness, are set for 10 a.m. Tuesday at Jennings & Ayers chapel with burial in Milton cemetery. The Rev. John Hill and the Rev. Kent Armstrong will officiate.

His parents were the late Alvin J. Sloan and Verlie May Patterson Sloan.

He is survived by his wife, Lucy Elizabeth King Sloan of Murfreesboro; son, Lynn Forrest Sloan of Murfreesboro; three daughters, Velma Elizabeth Holt of Murfreesboro, Dessie Arlene Rice of Rocky Point, N.C., Bessie Darlene Cooper of Lascassas; sister, Hallie Dale Sloan Reed of Murfreesboro; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

A member of Zion Hill Baptist Church, he was retired from the York VA Medical Center with 31 years service and was a Baptist preacher.

Visitation will be held from 4-9 p.m. today at Jennings & Ayers Funeral Home.

Services for Mrs. Dolores Ann Gendron, 65, Gainesboro, who died Friday, Feb. 6, at Cumberland River Hospital South, Gainesboro, were held 1 p.m. today at Anderson Funeral Home, Gainesboro, with burial in Dee & Bob÷s Gardens in White÷s Bend community of Jackson County, with the Rev. Fred Schmit officiating.

She is survived by her husband, Robert W. Gendron of Gainesboro; three sons, David Gendron of Blacksburg, Va., Robert J. Gendron of Murfreesboro, Tim Gendron of Harvest, Ala.; two daughters, Maureen Gendron of Slidell, La., Denise Billiot of Pearl River, La.; and 11 grandchildren.

A resident of the White÷s Bend community of Jackson County, she was a Catholic and a homemaker.

Roxie Rector

Services for Roxie Jean Rector, 73, of Cranor Road, who died at Middle Tennessee Medical Center on Sunday, Feb. 8, after a short illness will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Jennings and Ayers chapel with the Rev. Herman Dam officiating.

A native of Manassas, Va., she was a daughter of Lucian and Roxie Payne Randall.

She is also survived by her husband, Homan G. Rector; two sons, Lewis Reese of Fayetteville, N.C., Raymond Reese of Wisconsin; two daughters, Malinda Rasmussen of Port St. Lucie, Fla., Judy McCall of Austin, Tex.; two sisters, Dorothy Childress of New Baltimore, Va., Lillian Mitchell of Anderson, S.C.; 18 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Visitation is 9-11 a.m. Wednesday at Jennings & Ayers.

Rutherford Adkins

Services for Fisk University President Rutherford H. Adkins, 73, of Nashville, who died suddenly Friday, Feb. 6, wwill be at noon Tuesday at the Fisk University Memorial Chapel, with burial in Greenwood cemetery, Nashville. The Rev. Sherman R. Tribble will officiate.

He is survived by his wife, Nanci Cherry Adkins; two daughters, Sheila Adkins Scales of Murfreesboro, Theresa Ann Adkins of Silver Spring, Md.; a son, Mark W. Adkins of Nashville; and three sisters, Theresa Lenoir of Harlem, N.Y., Ann Alexander of Woodland Hills, Calif., and Barbara Ridley of Richmond, Va.

Adkins, a past president of Knoxville College, will lie instate until 6:45 tonight when an Alpha Phi Alpha Omega Service will be held until 7 p.m., followed by family visitation until 8 p.m.

The former Tuskegee Airman will again lie in state from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, again in the Fisk University Memorial Chapel.

H. Preston Scales & Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Claire Dorothy Howard

Services for Claire Dorothy Howard, 74, Rockvale, who died at home, are set for 10 a.m. Thursday at Mount Pleasant Funeral Home, Harlan, Ky., with burial in Howard cemetery.

Her parents were the late James and Nora Holt of Pennsylvania, and her husband was the late John Henry Howard Jr. She was preceded in death by a son, Daniel R. Howard.

She is survived by four children, John H. Howard III of Murfreesboro, James J. Howard of Biloxi, Miss., Pauline Vaughn of Dowelltown, Martha J. Hatfield of Rockvale; sister, Nora Root of Pennsylvania; and 10 grandchildren.

Formerly from Harlan, Ky., she had lived in Tennessee for 12 years.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. today at Mount Pleasant Funeral Home.

Carl Lee Pincheon

Services for Carl Lee "Corky" Pincheon, 54, of Bridle Drive, formerly of Sparta, who died Sunday, Feb. 8, at St. Thomas Hospital, Nashville, are set for 1 p.m. Wednesday at Hunter Funeral Home, Sparta, with burial in Lee cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Brewington Pincheon of Murfreesboro; three sons, Jeffrey Pincheon, Reginald Pincheon, both of Murfreesboro, Timothy Pincheon of Hermitage; daughter, Tamra Thomas of Murfreesboro; brother, Curtis Pincheon of Sparta; three sister, Clayton Burden of Sparta, Patricia Myers of Kansas, City, Mo., Margaret Leftwich of McMinnville; and one grandchild.

Visitation will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Hunter Funeral Home.

He is survived by his mother, Brenda Norris of Nashville; father, Orlando Jordan of Murfreesboro; three sisters, Opheca Jordan, Brandy Jordan, and Torrocco Smith.

Visitation will be held from 6-7 p.m. Wednesday at the church and the body will lie in state from 3-4:15 p.m. Wednesday at Scales & Sons Funeral Home.

Maude Carlton Tidwell

Services for Mrs. Maude Carlton Rowland Tidwell, 89, of Jasper Johnson Road, who died Mo nday, Feb. 9, at Middle Tennessee Medical Center after an extended illness, are set for 1 p.m. Wednesday at Jennings & Ayers chapel with burial in Cothran cemetery. Tommy Underwood will officiate.

Her parents were the late Morgan Carlton and Elizabeth Crick Carlton, and her husband was John D. Rowland, who died in 1970. She was preceded in death by a son, Ray Rowland.

She is survived by three sons, Huston Rowland of Rock Island, Charles Rowland, Jerry Rowland, both of Murfreesboro; three daughters, Judy Rowland of McMinnville, Fay Burks of Morrison, Alta Earlene Underwood of Murfreesboro; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren. and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

A member of the Church of Christ, she was a homemaker.

Visitation will be held from 5-9 p.m. today at Jennings & Ayers Funeral Home.
