George Allen Shelton, 30, of Del Rio, died suddenly Thursday, May 4.

He was preceded in death by his father, Howard Lee Shelton; grandparents, Lawrence and Annie Nichols and Ethel Stokely; and mother-in-law, Panda Gregg.

He is survived by his wife, Stacy Gregg Shelton of Del Rio; mother and stepfather, Willena and Curtis Holt of Bybee; brothers, Thomas Lee Shelton and Timothy Lynn Shelton, both of Bybee; sister and brother-in-law, Lorie Ann and Barry Jones of Concord, North Carolina; niece, Samantha Leeann Shelton; nephew, Timothy Lynn Shelton II, both of Bybee; special friend, Willie Webb of Newport; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Manes Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Arthur Willis officiating, with burial in the Suggs cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Bryan Gregg, Randall Gregg, Thomas Lee Shelton, Timothy Lynn Shelton, Willie Webb, and David Nichols.

The family received friends from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. Saturday at Manes Funeral Home.

Nellie Gray Sane
Died: 05/08/2000
Nellie Gray Sane, 84, of Parrottsville, died May 8, at Takoma Adventist Hospital in Greeneville.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Horace and Harriet Sane and three brothers, Terry Sane, Herman Sane, and Harley Sane.

She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her sisters, Eva Neas, of Greeneville, and Mary Ellen Norton, of Newport; sisters-in-law, Vinnie Sane (Greeneville), Mary Sane (Parrottsville), and Edith Sane (Parrottsville); and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 9, from 6-8 p.m. at Costner-Maloy Funeral Home.

The funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 10, at 2 p.m. in Costner-Maloy Funeral Chapel with Pastor Claude Villemaire officiating.

Interment in Resthaven Memorial Gardens.

Elsie E. Lawson
Died: 05/03/2000
Elsie E. Lawson, 75, of Northridge, Ohio, formerly of Newport, died Wednesday, May 3, at Grandview Hospital.

She was a member of Woodland Hills Baptist Church.

She was a member of Northridge Tops Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dallas and Delie Shults.

Survivors: husband, Steve C. Lawson; son, Rick Lawson of Lewisburg; sister, Dorothy Martin of Newport; brother and sister-in-law, Dallas (Vera) Shults Jr. of Columbia, South Carolina; grandchildren, Rick (Lori) Lawson, Katie (Rod) Fryman, Barry Lawson, Sarah Lawson, and Andy Lawson; and numerous other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 2 p.m. Sunday, May 7, prior to the services, at Costner-Maloy Funeral Home.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 7, at Costner-Maloy Funeral Chapel with Rev. Jerry McFalls officiating. Interment icon will be in Union cemetery.

Jerry James Miller
Died: 05/11/2000
Jerry James Miller, Sr., age 66, of Warrensburg Community, passed away Monday, May 8.

He was retired after 40 plus years at Bush Brothers. He was a deacon of Beulah Baptist Church in Mohawk.

He was preceded in death by his father, Daily Miller.

He is survived by his wife, Juanita Miller, of the home; son, Jerry James Miller, Jr. and wife, Debra, of Warrensburg; daughter, Judy (Scott) Rosenbalm, of Warrensburg; sisters and brother-in-laws, Jennie Lee (Paul) Worth, of Sevierville; Maybelle (Ted) Petrey, of Dandridge; and Jackie (Kyle) Smith of Kingsport; brothers and sisters-in-law, Olin (Nell) Miller, of Mohawk; Fred (Imogene) Miller, of Chestnut Hill; J. D. (Martha) Miller, of Newport; and Bill (Sue) Miller, of Dandridge; granddaughters, Amanda (Steve) Wails, Alicia Miller and Jessica Rosenbalm, all of Warrensburg; mother, Flora Miller, of Chestnut Hill. Additional survivors: several nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law.

The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 7-9 p.m. at Costner-Maloy Funeral Home.

Funeral will be held Thursday at 4:30 p.m. at Beulah Baptist Church in Mohawk with Rev. Billy Bush and Rev. J. B. Marshall officiating. Interment icon in Maloney cemetery.

Eula Mae Greene
Died: 05/10/2000
Eula Mae Thomas Greene, age 73, of Newport, died Wednesday.

She was a member of Stokely Chapel Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lonas and Sarah Thomas; stepfather, Dewey Thomas; and brother, Billie Thomas.

She is survived by her husband, Cleo “Buck” Greene, son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Margaret Greene, and granddaughter, Amanda Greene, all of Newport; brothers and sisters-in-law, Edsel and Helen Thomas, Newport, Fred and Jean Thomas, of Sevierville; sister, Elree Blazer, of Sevierville; sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Kenneth Russell, of Dandridge; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Shan and Edna Bush, of Newport; niece, Bettye Bush Grooms, of Newport; great-nephew, Shannon Grooms, of Newport; and several other nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 8 p.m. Friday evening at the Manes Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday morning in Union cemetery.

The family will receive friends 5-8 Friday evening prior to the funeral service.

Edith Avon Glenn

Edith Avon Glenn, age 75, of Newport, died Wednesday afternoon at the Jefferson Memorial Hospital.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later.

Claud A Gowan
Died: 08/31/1998
Hot Springs, North Carolina, resident Claud A. Gowan, 75, died Sunday, August 30, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville.

He was born to the late William R. and Mary (Bolden) Gowan of Hot Springs, North Carolina.

He attended Bonnie Hill Salvation Army Church and was retired from the U.S. Forestry Service.

He was a World War II veteran serving in New Guinea, Southern Philippines, and Luzon Feyte Correador.

He was awarded the AP Theater Ribbon with three Bronze Stars, one Bronze Arrowhead, Philippines Liberation Ribbon, and two Bronze Stars.

He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post 10404.

He is survived by his wife, Hazel E. (Bumgarner) Gowan of Hot Springs, North Carolina; son and daughter-in-law, Claud Jr. and Kay Gowan of Rutledge; sisters and brothers-in-law, Catherine Lawson of Hot Springs, North Carolina, Pauline and Raymond Harris of Newport, Virginia, and Elizabeth and Walter Clark of Black Mountain, North Carolina; brother and sister-in-law, Dolman and Lucille Gowan of Hot Springs, North Carolina; and two grandsons, Matt and Adam Gowan of Rutledge.

The family will receive friends Monday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home.

The funeral service will follow the visitation at 8 p.m. Rev. Margie Self will officiate.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Fairview cemetery with military rites provided by the Lance Corporal Charles C. Roberts D.A.V. Post 102.

Daisy Mae Webb

Daisy Mae Webb, age 88, of Cosby, died Thursday, May 11.

She is survived by her daughters, Donita Webb and Gail Hannah, both of Cosby, Dena Proffitt, of Central City, Kentucky, and Delora (Floss) Suggs, of Newport; son, Dean Webb and wife, Pat, of Newport, and David Webb, of Gatlinburg; brother-in-law, Grant Greene, of Whiteburg; nephew, Jimmie Greene and wife, Deannie; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-nieces; and special friend, Richard Valentine.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday at the Manes Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Dennis Surber and Rev. Charles Lowery officiating, with burial in Waters-Large cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Manes Funeral Home.
