Marvin John Phelps, Age 84, passed away Thursday, October 10, 2002, at United Regional Medical Center Nursing Home. Mr. Phelps was a sawmill operator and farmer. He was a member of The Fredonia Church of Christ for 54 years.

He was the son of the late Jessie James and Lucy Vaughn Phelps.

He was preceded in death by his; Parents and Two Brothers Owen Phelps and Roy Phelps

Marvin is survived by his wife Gertie West Phelps of Manchester;

4 children:
Joan Morton and son-in-law Wayne Morton of Wartrace
Brian Phelps of Conover, NC.
Janice Jackson and son-in-law David Jackson of Crossville
Laura Sensing and son-in-law Tim Sensing of Abilene, TX

3 Brothers: Clarence, Hoyt and Brady Phelps all of Manchester.

2 Sisters: Clara West of Manchester and Mary Anderson of Readyville

9 Grandchildren and 1 Great-Grandchild

Brady Phelps, age 77, of Manchester, died July 7, 2003. Mr. Phelps was preceded in death by his parents Jessie and Lucy Vaughn Phelps.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Blackburn Phelps of Manchester;

3 daughters, Connie (Norman) Brown of Woodbury, Shirley (Stan) Littlefield of Altamont Springs, FL and Susie (Lewis) McEacharn of Manchester;

3 grandchildren, Rhonda (Jeff) Davis of Murfreesboro, Jennifer (Sam) Morris of Woodbury and Greg Brown of Altamont Springs, FL;

3 great grandchildren, Trent and Trey Jones of Murfreesboro and Dalton Morris of Woodbury;

2 brothers, Clarence and Hoyt Phelps of Manchester; 2 sisters, Clara West of Manchester and Mary Alice Anderson of Murfreesboro; several nieces and nephews.

Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.

Coffee County Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Hoyt Phelps

Hoyt Phelps age 81, passed away Wednesday, April 7, 2004 at the Alvin C. York VA Medical Center in Murfreesboro after an extended illness. Mr. Phelps was a homebuilder, a farmer and owner of Phelps Grocery Store for over 40 years. He was also a member of Goosepond Methodist Church and the National Guard.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jessie James and Lucy Bell Vaughn Phelps.

Survivors include his wife, Oneida Phelps of Manchester, son and daughter-in-law, Barry and Penny Phelps of Beech Grove, daughter, Becky Phelps of Manchester, three grandchildren, Camron (Allison) Phelps of Manchester, Chance Phelps of Beech Grove, and Cassie(Brad)Smith of Brentwood, two great-grandchildren, Sawyer Phelps and Jackson Smith. Also surviving, one brother, Clarence Phelps of Manchester and two sisters, Clara West of Manchester and Mary Alice Anderson of Murfreesboro.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association.

Brother J.D. Spencer will officiate services and burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.

Jesse William Phillips

Jesse William Phillips, age 81, a resident of Manchester, passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2003 at Cabell Huntington Hospital in West Virginia. He was born December 25, 1921 in Alabama the son of the late Roe Monroe Phillips and Mary Ann Estes Phillips. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Lula Pearl Phillips and a granddaughter, Judy Kwolek.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Juanita and Joe Terry of Romulus, Michigan and Ann and Manuel Dalton of Harts, West Virginia, 6 grandchildren, Jesse Terry, Lisa Stunder, Leroy Dalton, Patricia Romans and William and Mary Ann Dalton, 11 great-grandchildren and a sister, Mae Reed of Hillsboro and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be officiated by Brother Horace Lee Jacobs and burial will follow at Gilley Hill cemetery in Cannon County, TN.

Robert G. Phillips

Robert G. Phillips, age 80, of Manchester, died August 18, 2003.

Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Mary Moore Phillips; one sister; and two brothers.

He is survived by his wife, Frances Phillips of Manchester; two sons, Terry Phillips of Nashville, and Tony Phillips of Muncie, IN; two step sons, Gil Wilson and Tim Wilson, both of Muncie, IN; two step daughters, Marla Cook of Bourbana, IN, and Theresa Heatherly of Muncie, IN; two sisters, Gladys Davis and Alice Pellam, both of Woodbury, TN; one brother, Max Phillips, also of Woodbury; two grandchildren, Jonathan Phillips and Kara Baker; seven step grandchildren; three great granddaughters; and four step great grandchildren.

Graveside Services will be held on Saturday, August, 23, in the Gardens of Memory, Muncie, IN.

Donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association (Highland Rim)

Mr. Pickens was preceded in death by his wife, Marty Ellen Pickens; a nephew, Dustin Wayne Pickens; grandparents, Kenneth and Mamie Pickens; and by a grandmother, Pearl Walden.

He is survived by his parents, David and Wilma Pickens of Manchester; grandfather, Phillip Walden of Manchester; children, Josh and D.J., both of Michigan, Austin and Stetson of Georgia; 3 brothers and one sister in law, Donald Pickens, Billy Pickens and Jimmy and Carrie Pickens; 1 sister, Christine; 7 nieces and nephews, Amber, Madison, Russell, Jamison, Shane, Alexis and Brianna; lots of aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends.

Burial will follow inn the Ragsdale cemetery.

She is survived by: 2 daughters: JoAnn Sherrill of Manchester, and Margaret Schaffer of Elkhart, IN.

1 son: Rayburn Poff of Manchester.

2 Sisters: Florence Poff of Manchester, and Lilly Cornelison of Manchester.

1 Brother: Paul Lowery of Elkhart, IN.

4 Grandchildren 3 Great-Grandchildren and 1 Great-Great Grandchild.

She is survived by: 2 Grandchildren; William "Billy" Bright and Jessica Bright Berry.
3 Great Grandchildren: Sasha, Cynthia and Robin.
Several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Interment will follow in Ragsdale cemetery.

Illa Bee Harden Pogueage 72 of Manchester passed away Sunday morning at the Medical Center of Manchester after an extended illness. She was born December 23, 1931 in New Market, Alabama the daughter of the late Luther Kirby and Mary Lou May Kirby. She was a retired press operator employed by Rymer's Drycleaners in Manchester and attended the Church of Christ. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, William Franklin Pogue, a son, Bobby Lee Pogue and two brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include her children, Brenda Nunley, Diane Barrett, Sylvia (Jerry) Bush, Michael (Bonnie) Pogue all of Manchester, Kay (Jerry) Barrett of Woodbury and Lena Bragg also of Manchester, 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society or to the American Diabetes Association.

Brother Jim Hogan will officiate services and burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.

The children are survived by; Parents Craig & Bobbi Pope, a brother Lee Keene, Sister; Preslee Pope. Grandparents; Wallace & Joyce Crosslin, Doug & Rita Pope and Kathy McCullough. 3 Aunts, 3 Uncles and several cousins.

Infant Leena Grace Pope was born and passed Friday, February 14, 2003 at the Middle Tennessee Medical Center in Murfreesboro.

Services will be held graveside only on Saturday at 10 AM and will be conducted by Dr. Kerry Walker.

Leena Grace is preceded in death by brother, Conlee Craig Pope and sister, Leela Marie Pope.

Loving survivors include her parents, Craig and Bobbi Pope of Manchester, brother, Lee Keene of Manchester and sister, Preslee Pope of Manchester, grandparents, Wallace and Joyce Corsslin and Doug and Rita Pope and Kathy McCullough all of Manchester, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Michael Potuk, Jr.

Service: Wednesday, May 14, 2003

Michael Potuk, Jr., age 51, a resident of Manchester passed away Sunday, May 11, 2003 at his residence. He was born December 9, 1951 in Tullahoma, TN the son of Mrs. Helen Mozelle Hickerson and the late Michael Potuk, Sr. He attended the New Union Church of Christ and was a United States Navy veteran having served as an Air Traffic Controller, Grade E-5 during August 11, 1971 through September 18, 1980.

In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife and soulmate, Patricia "Patsy" Potuk, and his grandparents, Tom and Minnie Hickerson.

Survivors include two loving daughters, Michelle Potuk and Heather Potuk, two grandchildren, Caleb and Camyrn Potuk, mother and step-father, Mozelle and Frank Teems, brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Sarah Potuk and a sister, Catherine Hawk.

Brother Charles Williams will officiate services and burial will follow at Mt. View cemetery in McMinnville, TN where he will be interred next to his wife.

Anna Powell

Funeral services for Anna Lee Maxwell Powell, affectionately known as “Miss Annie”, age 82, will be conducted Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002 at 1:00 PM with Rev. Barry Phelps officiating. Burial will follow at Summitville cemetery.

Mrs. Powell died Wednesday, September 11, 2002 at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville.

Mrs. Powell was born October 20, 1919 in DeKalb County, TN the daughter of the late Lester Maxwell and Susie Jane Puckett Maxwell. In earlier years, her family moved to Coffee County, where she attended high school and was an avid basketball player having won a medal for her sportsmanship. In 1939 she and William Clayton Powell were wed. They owned and operated Powell’s Grocery in Summitville until retirement in 1995. She was active with the Summitville cemetery acting as Secretary/Treasurer until last year and was the oldest member of the Summitville United Methodist Church having served as church treasurer, trustee and Sunday school teacher for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1996, William Clayton Powell and is also preceded in death by 8 brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Judy Ann Powell of Morrison, three sisters-in-law, Mrs. Catherine Salter of Summitville, Mattie Maxwell of McMinnville and Belle Maxwell of Marietta, GA., and numerous loving nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Friday evening from 4:00-9:00 PM at Manchester Funeral Home.
