Charles Justin Shelton III

Charles Justin Shelton, III, age 15, a resident of Manchester passed away Friday, Feb. 7, 2003 at the Medical Center of Manchester. He was born July 13, 1987 in Coffee County, the son of Charles Justin Shelton, Jr., and Cynthia Faye Arnold Shelton. He was a sophomore at Central High School and a member of Trinity Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by grandfathers, Charles Justin Shelton, Sr., and Cleveland Arnold.

Survivors include his parents, Charles Justin Shelton, Jr., and Cynthia Faye Arnold Shelton, a brother, Joshua Shelton,grandmothers, Legathern Arnold and Billie Jean Connolly all of Manchester.

Burial will follow services at Farrar Hill cemetery.

The family requests memorial contributions be made in Memory of Justin to AEDC Federal Credit Union. (a fund will be set up in his name beginning Monday, Feb. 10, 2003 to assist the family with expenses).

Joy Bush Sherrill

Joy Bush Sherrill, age 72, a resident of Manchester passed away Thursday, December 4, 2003 at United Regional Medical Center after an extended illness.

She was born September 5, 1931 in Coffee County, the daughter of the late Willie J. and Ruby Darnell Bush. She was a homemaker and a member of Fredonia Church of Christ.

Survivors include her husband, Charles Tommy Sherrill of Manchester, four daughters, Carolyn (Ronnie) Evans of Smithville, Cathy (Steve) Arnold of Manchester, Cindy (Jesse) King of McMinnville and Charlie Sherrill of Manchester, twin brother, Roy Bush, brothers, Cornie Bush and Dudley Bush all of Manchester, sisters, Lura Dell Fagan of Nashville and Chestel LaFevre of Hobert, IN and eight grandchildren.

Brother Ron Broyles and Brother Charles Williams will officiate services and burial will follow at Farrar Hill cemetery.

The family requests memorial be made to the Fredonia Church of Christ Building Fund or to the charity of one's choice.

Charles Tommy Sherrill

Charles Tommy Sherrill age 74, passed away Sunday, May 9, 2004 at United Regional Medical Center Nursing Home. He ws born November 18, 1929 in Manchester, TN the son of the late Hugh and Louise Thurman Sherrill. He worked at Carrier for many years and was a farmer. He was a member of the Fredonia Church of Christ.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Tessie Joy Sherrill, a brother, Hugh Sherrill, Jr., and a sister Delores Reynolds.

Survivors include four daughters, Carolyn (Ronnie) Evans of Smithville, TN, Cathy (Steve) Arnold of Manchester, Cindy ( Jesse) King of McMinnville, and Charlie Sherrill of Manchester, eight grandchildren, a brother, R. L. Sherrill of Hillsboro and nine sisters, Polly Banks of Hillsboro, Geneva Shuster of Manchester, Becky Harriman of Manchester, Brenda Henderson of Manchester, Debbie Farme of Manchester, Teresa McCullough of Manchester, Nell Jones of Washington, IL, Nora Mantle of Washington, IL and Emma Thornberry of Tulsa, OK.

The family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Fredonia Church of Christ Building Fund.

Brother Foy Rigney and Brother Ron Broyles will officiate services and burial will follow at Farrar Hill cemetery.

Mary Lena Simmons

Mary Lena Simmons, 75, of 317 Roberts St. died at 1:33 p.m., Tuesday, November 19, 2002 at O.S.F. St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

She was born June 20, 1927 in Hampshire, Tennessee to Herbert and Lucille Parker Jones. She married Cecil L. Simmons on May 18, 1945 in Georgia.

She was preceded in death by her husband on September 16, 1993 in Manchester, Tennessee and 1 son, Michael Simmons.

Surviving are 3 daughters, Louise (Richard) Lenaway and Kimberly (Greg) Peak, both of Creve Coeur and Melissa (Dale) Taapken of Kansas City, Kansas; 4 sons, Wayne (Donna) Simmons of East Peoria, Ronald (Sheri) Simmons and Patrick (Debbie) Simmons, both of Creve Coeur and Dale (Roxanne) Simmons of Manchester, Tennessee; 14 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Norman (Nell) Jones of Sunnyland, Illinois; and 2 sisters, Jean Layne of Manchester, Tennessee and Shirley (John) Mooneyham of Wartrace, Tennessee.

A homemaker, Mrs. Simmons was a member of the Church of Christ in Manchester, Tennessee.

Burial will be in Hurricane cemetery in Manchester.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Central Illinois Memorial Kidney Foundation, 3300 N. Main St., East Peoria, IL 61611.

Arron Dwight Sissom

Arron Dwight Sissom, age 68, passed away Tuesday, May 18, 2004 at his residence. Anative of Cannon County, Tennessee, Mr. Sissom was a retired homebuilder.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Palmer Martin and Emma Lue Holt Sissom.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Sissom of Manchester; children, Arron Dwight Sissom, Jr. of Nashville, Teresa Russ of Manchester, Sheila Arterbury of Shalimar, Florida, Martin Sissom of Manchester, Rita Pope of Manchester, Joe Dale Sissom of Manchester; brother, Bobby Sissom of Muncie, Indiana; and eight grandchildren.

The Sissom family asks that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Burial will follow in the Fredonia cemetery.

Joyce Smallwood

Joyce Smallwood, age 65, of Manchester, died August 14, 2002

Mrs. Smallwood was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Coffelt and Mary Alice Templeton Coffelt; one son, Thomas S. Smallwood, and one sister, Ruby Roberts.

She is survived by her husband, Henry "Hank" Smallwood of Manchester; one daughter, B. J. Cox of Manchester; two sons, Henry Lee Smallwood of Altamont, and Gunnery Sgt. Donald P. Smallwood of Quantico, VA; one sister, Billie Jean Hill of McMinnville; four grandchildren, Anney Cox, Kegan Smallwood, Alex Cox, and Christopher Lee Smallwood..

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Alliance for Community Outreach.

Joseph Lee Smartt, age 32, of Bay St. Louis, MS, died May 16, 2004.

Mr. Smartt is preceded in death by his mother, Bobbie Thompson Smartt.

He is survived by his father Roger Smartt of Bay St. Louis, MS; his wife, Jenny Smartt of Bay St. Louis, MS; one son, Christopher Smartt of Bay St. Louis, MS; four daughters, Jessica and Brittney Smart, both of Altamont, TN, Candice Smartt, and Jamie Nichole Matthews, both of Bay St. Louis, MS; one brother, David Smartt of Bay St. Louis, MS; two step-brothers, Justin Driver of Bay St. Louis, MS, and James Lee Driver of Prattville, AL; two sisters, Shelly Casteel of Tuscaloosa, AL, and Kayla Smartt of Bay St. Louis, MS; and three step-sisters, Jessica Driver and Sandy Dennis of Bay St. Louis, MS, and Rachel Driver of Clanton, AL.

Burial will follow in Manchester City cemetery.

Jane Todd Smead, age 74, of Manchester, died August 30, 2002

Mrs. Smead was preceded in death by her parents, Louis B. and Ruth McGlaughlin Todd.

She is survived by her husband, Leonard C. "Buddy" Smead, 1 son John C. Smead, 1 daughter, Ruth "Toddy" Murray,

2 grandsons, Dustin and Todd Murray,
1 brother, Louis Todd, Jr. 1 sister-in-law, Mary Purifoy, 2 nieces, Sarah Purifoy and Trish Kelley; 3 nephews, Steve Purifoy, Louis Todd III, and Jim Todd; 1 granddaughter, April Field.

Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.

He is preceded in death by: his father; Basil Bernard Smith and a brother; James Bernard Smith.

2 Daughters: Maggie Ruth Smith of Manchester and Sherrie Jan Smith (Bill) Corbin of Springfield.

2 Grandchildren: Makinna Bronson Corbin and Graham Cade Corbin and Friend: Inez Spears Smith.

Burial will follow in the Shady Grove cemetery.

John Sidney Smith, age 44, of Manchester passed away Friday at the Medical Center of Manchester.

He is preceded in death by: Mother: Georgia Maxine Smith and a Brother; Sammy Ray Smith Jr.

He is survived by: 2 Children; Maleah Sidney Smith of Florence, AL, and Ethan Jackson Smith of Florence, AL.

Father: Sam R. Smith of Manchester.
Sister: Sharon and Michael Shelton of Manchester.

Nieces and Nephews: Arch Slater, Angie Slater, Chris Slater, Samantha Shelton, Nick Smith, and Sam Smith.

Brianna Michelle Smith

Brianna Michelle, infant daughter of Doug Smith and Meagan Carbone of Manchester, passed away May 16, 2004 at Harton Regional Medical Center.

She is survived not only by her parents, but also her grandparents, Tammy and John Clows of Florida; Gary & Jeri Carbone of Manchester; Mike and Connie Hill of Florida; and Mark Hicks of Florida.

Services will be held at a later date in Cape Coral, Florida, with burial to follow in Coral Ridge cemetery in Florida.

Rita Sue Jones Ard Smith

Ms. Rita Sue Jones Ard Smith, age 46, of Manchester, passed away Sunday, August 8, 2004 at her residence in Manchester. A native of Terre Haute, Indiana, she was the daughter of Alonzo Howard Jones and the late Margaret VanScyoc. She was a Certified Nurse Technician at the Alvin C. York VA Medical Center in Murfreesboro.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Lonnie Jones and Richard Jones and grandparents, Mac McDowell, Mary Emma Johnson, Lonnie and Lula Mae Jones.

She is survived by two daughters, Julie Ard and Danielle (Tim) Campbell; sister, Rose Jones Weir; brother, Charles B. Jones; grandchildren, Joe West, II, Alana Campbell, and many other adopted children, you know who you are; nieces and nephews, John Howard Weir, Bambi K. Sue Weir, Cynthia Monique Weir, Dakota Bradford Brock, Shane Allen Jones, Tommy and Chris Bolton, Emily Marie Jones, Margaret Gail Winchell and Jamie Howard Jones.

Brother Leon Messick will officiate the services. The family asks that donations be made to the Haven of Hope.

Kenneth L. Smithson, age 63, a resident of Manchester, passed away Saturday evening at Harton Regional Medical Center. He was born January 7, 1941 in Coffee County, the son of the late A. J. Smithson, Sr. and Clarene Smithson. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia Blackburn. He was a retired grocer for Kroger stores.

He is survived by two sons, Jeffrey Owen Smithson and wife, Anita of Spencer, TN, and Kevin James Smithson of Manchester, daughter, Vickie Diane Brown and husband, Jack of Tullahoma, three grandchildren, Forrest "Benji" Blackburn of Tullahoma and Brittany and Colton Brown both of Tullahoma and four sisters, Virginia White of Tullahoma, Mable Alford of Illinois, Jewel Dean St. John of Manchester, and Jo Ann Reed of Indiana.

Burial will follow services at Concord cemetery.

Ausie Hyatt Smothers

Ausie Hyatt Smothers, age 95, of Tullahoma, TN passed away Monday, June 9, 2003 at Harton Regional Medical Center. She was born September 21, 1907 in Albertville, AL the daughter of the late Street and Icy Hyatt. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband, Graeme McGraw Smothers.

Mrs. Smothers retired from teaching after 36 years of service.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Albertville, a member of the AEA, the Albertville Garden Club and also the Book Club.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Albertville Library or to the Library of one's choice.

Mrs. Smothers is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sarah Graeme Butler and Richard Butler both of Manchester.

Mattheau Ashfield Spencer

Mattheau Ashfield Spencer, age 36, a resident of Hillsboro, TN passed away Monday, January 26, 2004 at his residence. He was born October 18, 1967. He is preceded in death by a son, David Mattheau Spencer and a brother, Mark Spencer.

Survivors include his wife, Joanna Scott Spencer, children, Kara, Heather, Ashley and Mattheau Joseph Spencer, his parents, Joe and Billie Spencer and a sister, Jan Spencer and many other aunts, uncles, relatives and loving friends.
