James K. Spry

James K. Spry age 73, a resident of Manchester, TN died Friday, November 15, 2002 at Medical Center of Manchester. He was born March 16, 1929 in Coffee County, the son of the late Wiley B. Spry and Myrtle Louelle Lewis Spry. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by sisters and brothers, Ellis Spry, Oliver May Spry, Mattie Belle Spry, Mary Lou Spry and Bernie Sue Youngblood.

He is survived by a daughter, Wilma Barton of Manchester, two sons, Ray Spry of Manchester and David Spry of Summitville, 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Ruth Hawks of Manchester.

Glen O. Spry

Glen O. Spry, age 83, passed away Tuesday March 11, 2003 at the Manchester Health Care Center. He was born November 14, 1919 in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, the son of the late Clyde S. and Fern Barney Spry. He retired from BF Goodrich where he was employed as a warehouse manager. He is a United States Army Veteran having served during World War II and was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Ben Spry.

Survivors include his wife, Bernice Spry of Manchester, three children, Louise Hasty of Austin, TX, Richard Spry of Nashville, TN and Barbara Shemwell of Manchester; seven grandchildren, Heather Yarbrough, Richard Hasty, Alyson Huff, Adam Spry, Benjamin Shemwell, Michael Shemwell and Susan Shemwell and a great-grandson, Bryson Huff.

Reverend Jay Archer will officiate services.

Franklin Spry

Franklin Spry, age 82, of Elkhart, Indiana passed away Friday, October 17, 2003 at Elkhart General Hospital after an extended illness. He was born December 29, 1920 Hollow Springs, Tennessee the son of the late Marion F. and Serena E. Ellsworth Spry. He was formerly employed as a Mill Press operator at Elkhart Rubber Works and also was retired from the RV Industry in Elkhart, IN. He was a member of the Goshen Church of Christ. He was a United States Army Veteran having served during WWII. He attended yearly reunions in Kentucky for the 1454th Engineering Maintenance Company. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed camping, spending time with his grandchildren, woodworking and whittling.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Billie M. Cox Spry whom he married on January 23, 1948 in Rossville, GA. Mrs. Spry passed away September 28, 2001 in Elkhart, IN; a son, Tommy W. Spry, who passed away July 13, 1968, three brothers, Edgar Lee Spry, Joe Wesley Henby Spry and Orville W. Spry, three half-sisters and two half brothers.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald N. and Joan Spry of Elkhart, IN and Jess C. And Julie Spry of Mishawaka, IN, five grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and many others who referred to him as father and grandfather. Also surviving are 4 brothers and sisters,-in-law, Willis F. and Ellen Spry, Yancy D. and Mary Spry, Johnny G. and Algretta Spry and George L. and Elaine Spry and two sisters, Emma Murphy and Olive M. "Ollie" Bricker all of Elkhart, IN.

Burial will follow at Prairie Plains Church of Christ cemetery and Brother Paul Curless will officiate services.

Martha Ann St. John

Martha Ann St. John, age 93, a resident of Manchester, died Friday, April 17, 2003 at Manchester Health Care after an extended illness. She was born October 22, 1909 in Coffee County, TN the daughter of the late Andrew J. Cunningham and Ethel Hoover Cunningham. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Manchester.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a son, Herbert Ray Stewart.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Helen and Harry Comer and Betty and Buddy Fetzer all of Manchester, six grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, a sister, Irene Tucker of Tullahoma and a brother, William C. Cunningham of Huntsville, AL and several nieces and nephews.

The family has requested memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Highland Rim Chapter, 201 West Lincoln Street, Tullahoma, TN 37388

Lucy K. Stacy

Lucy K. Stacy, age 90, passed away Thursday, July 10, 2003 at Baptist Hospital in Nashville after an extended illness.

She was born September 27, 1912 in Coffee County, TN the daughter of the late William Martin Broyles and Eula Bell Messick Broyles. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, John Woodard Stacy in 1994, Brothers Martin and Lawrence Broyles and sister, Annie Lee Rogers.

She attended Garrison Fork Baptist Church in the Beechgrove community for many years.

Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, John Tyson and Nancy Stacy of Hampton, GA, Donald D. and Robin Stacy of Nolensville, and Ronald R. and Carole Stacy of Wartrace, a daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Robert J. Evans of Mt. Juliet, TN and thirteen grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Clara Fults of Shelbyville, TN.

Burial will follow services at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens and Brother Gayle Alexander will officiate services.

Julius Craig Stanley, Jr.

Julius Craig Stanley, Jr., age 76, a resident of Manchester passed away Tuesday, June 1, 2004 at Harton Regional Medical Center. He was born October 17, 1927 in Caswell County, North Carolina, the son of the late Julius Craig Stanley, Sr., and Bertha McKinney Stanley.

He was a retired salesperson of major appliances for General Electric for many years, a United States Army veteran having served during WWII and the Korean Conflict and was of the Presbyterian faith.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Frances Jones.

Survivors include his loving wife of 42 years, Ada Scheuer Stanley of Manchester, son, Michael Kelley of Manchester, TN and nieces, Jackie Nelson of Milton, VA and Rita Apple of Reedsville, North Carolina.

The family has requested cremation and no services are planned at this time.

Bobby Keith Starnes

Bobby Keith Starnes, age 61, of Manchester, died March 31, 2004.

Mr. Starnes was preceded in death by his parents, J.D. and Ova Cash Starnes; and one brother, Joe Douglas Starnes.

He is survived by his wife, Norma Winnett Starnes.
Four daughters, Laura (Tommy) Anderson, Kenell (Sam) Green, Joleana (John Duke) and Kim (Dwayne) Mullins.
Nine grandchildren, Lucas Green, Jared Anderson, Ashley Green, Austin Duke, Derek Anderson, Joel Duke, Jake Duke, Cassie Green and Courtney Mullins.
Two sisters, Jean Allison and Joy Allison.

Burial will follow in New Brick cemetery.

Manchester Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mary Ann Stephens

Mary Ann Stephens, age 41, of Murfreesboro, died April 12, 2003

Mrs. Stephens is survived by two daughters, Amanda Nicole Stephens and Amber Rose Stephens; her mother and step father, Joyce Frey Tucker and Harry Tucker; one sister, Deborah Lynn Ferrell; two half sisters, Wanda Frazier and Barbara Ann Ashley; and one grandmother, Lenora Trussell.

Private Funeral Services were held on Monday, April 14, at Manchester Funeral Home.

Manchester Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Bessie Mae Stephens

STEPHENS, Bessie Mae, age 86, passed away on Friday, August 8, 2003 at her residence in Manchester. A native of Russell Springs, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Henderson Stephens and Evealine McQueary Stephens. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of God. She was preceded in death by her husband O.E. "Steve" Stephens; two sons, Lonnie and Danny Stephens; three brothers and one sister. She is survived by four children, Athel Stephens of Bethel, Ohio, Denzel Stephens of Liberty, Kentucky, Yvonne Qualls of Altamont, Tennessee and Eddy Stephens of Manchester, Tennessee; 10 grandchildren; Numerous great grandchildren; four sisters and one brother. Rev. Burial will be in the Stephens Family cemetery in Russell Springs, Kentucky. Billy Dunbar and Rev. James Small will officiate services. Manchester Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Thomas William Stringfellow

Thomas William Stringfellow, age 86, of Manchester, died September 30, 2002

Mr. Stringfellow was preceded in death by his parents, Grover and Villa Clegg Stringfellow.

He is survived by his wife, Rosalie Powell Stringfellow, a son, Thomas William Stringfellow II,1 daughter, Vicki Perry, UT;

7 grandchildren;

1 brother, Rodger Stringfellow,

1 nephew, David Stringfellow.

Burial will follow in the Wymore cemetery in Monroe, Iowa.

Coffee County Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Fred Kenneth Sullivan, age 59, of Manchester passed away Wednesday, at his Residence.

Mother: Queenie Elizabeth Baker Sullivan
Brother: James Sullivan

Fred is survived by:
Daughters: Tammy Williams, Dana Lacher, and Dena Sullivan.
Sons: Kenny Sullivan, and Tracy Sullivan.
Step-Children: Larsa McCullough, Eric Hill, and Sheila Walls.
Sisters: Joyce Harrell, and Loyce Gilley
10 Grandchildren
1 Great Grandchild.

Interment will follow in the Prairie Plain cemetery.

Noah Michael Swann

Noah Michael Swann, infant, of Morrison, died December 10, 2002

Noah was preceded in death by his great grandfather, Roy Baker and one great uncle, Ronnie Baker.

He is survived by his mother, Candace Michelle Swann;
two brothers, Cody Swann and Dillon Swann;

Grandmother, Carolyn Swann; grandfather, Melvin Maxwell;

great grandmother, Bea Baker; great uncle, Randy Baker;
great aunt, Shirley Evans; and cousins.

Burial will follow at Summitville cemetery.

Cecil Pauline Swann

Cecil Pauline Swann, age 83, a resident of Manchester passed away Monday, January 19, 2004 at the Medical Center of Manchester. She was born July 8, 1920 in Coalmont, TN the daughter of the late Andrew Lee and Ollie Marie Fletcher.

She was employed in earlier years with PCA as a factory worker and was a member of Summitville Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Delbert L. Swann, a son, Cordell Swann and two brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include four sons, Larry (Faye) Swann and Phillip (Carolyn) Swann, all of Annison, AL, Richard (Sherry) Swann of Manchester and Terry (Hortencia) Swann of El Paso, TX, two daughters, Debbie (Terry) Jernigan of Manchester and Marie (Randy) Blurton of Murfreesboro, daughter-in-law, Faye Swann of Manchester, 15 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Also surviving is a brother, Andrew Fletcher, Jr., of Manchester.

Reverend Barry Phelps will officiate services and burial will follow at Summitville cemetery.

The family requests memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

Clarence K. "Clancy" Swoape

Clarence K. "Clancy" Swoape age 77, a resident of Manchester, passed away, Friday, January 9, 2004 at the Alvin C.York VA Medical Center in Murfreesboro after an extended illness. He was born October 13, 1926 in Coffee County, the son of the late Sam and Mattie Robinson Swoape, a daughter, Melanie Swoape and five brothers and three sisters.

He was a United States Navy veteran having served during World War II. He was a member of the VFW Post 4188 in Tullahoma and a member of the American Legion. He was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Helen Conley Swoape of Manchester, son, Timothy Swoape of Murfreesboro, son, Tami-Ray Swoape of Houston, TX, daughter, Melinda Swoape of Nashville, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, step-daughters, Susan Ross of Elkhart, Indiana and Theresa Tracy of Pelham, several step-grandchildren, a brother, Randal Swoape of Conroe, TX and a sister, Shirley Brinson of Muncie, IN.

Brother Jimmy Kesey will officiate services and burial will follow at Robinson cemetery on Robinson Road located in Coffee County.

Date of Death: Wednesday August 21, 2002

Mrs. Syler, age 70, of Cowan, TN is survived locally by Gordon and Sheri Jackson employee of Manchester Funeral Home

Jake Taber

Jake Taber, age 66, a resident of Manchester passed away Thursday, June 17, 2004 at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville. He was born August 19, 1937 in Chicago, IL the son of the late Jacob Joseph and Katherine Taber, Sr.

He was employed by ACME Mechanical as a welding fabricator and was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Jim Hansen and a sister, Bernadette Orseske.

Survivors include his wife, Ann Taber of Manchester, son, Scott Thomas Taber of Portland, TN, four step-children, Tina Johnson, Kelly Henley, James Thompson and Dennis Thompson all of Manchester, 12 grandchildren, Nikki, Crystal, Chris, Jessica, Tasha, Catherine, Kayla, Cody, TJ, Kelsey, Kristen and Jacob, 2 great-grandchildren, Austin and Joey and five siblings, Myra Davis, Sandi Sullivan, Joe Banta, Peggy Banta and JoAnne Banta.

Pastor Mark Maybrey will officiate services and burial will follow at Prairie Plains Church of Christ cemetery.

Betty Sue Tallent

Betty Sue Tallent, age 70, of Manchester TN. passed away Thursday November 28, 2002 at the United Regional Medical Center Nursing Home.

She was a member of the New Union Church of Christ.

Mrs. Tallent was preceded in death by: her mother Jewell Campbell, husband Alvin Eugene Tallent, and a Grandson; Brad Williams.

She is survived by: 2 children Dianne Williams and Ronnie E. Tallent.

5 grandchildren; Jenni Tallent, Kimberly Tallent, Luke Tallent, Mark Williams, and Krista Whitten.

3 Great Grandchildren: Andrew, Alex and Allison Williams.

Father: Woodrow Campbell

Brother: James Alfred Campbell

Sisters: Mazine Campbell and Lois Jean Holder

Several Nieces, Nephews, Aunts, and Uncles,

Burial will follow in the Broomtown cemetery in Gaylesville, AL.
