J.L. Woodard

J.L. Woodard, age 82, a resident of Hillsboro, passed away Saturday, June 21, 2003 at the Medical Center of Manchester after an illness. He was born February 16, 1921 in Coffee County, TN the son of the late Bud and Rosie Simmons Woodard. He was a retired construction engineer and a U.S. Navy veteran having served during World War II. He was of the Protestant faith.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Baltimore Woodard, a son, George Allen Woodard, 2 grandsons, Raymond Lee Stewart and Kennedy Laine Stewart, a brother, James Woodard and a sister, Emma Walker.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn J. and Richard Alan Paton of Hillsboro, grandchildren, Greg Stewart of Hillsboro, Yvonne Stewart of Arizona, Jeff Stewart of Belvidere, Mark Stewart of Elora, Tommy McBee of Manchester, great-grandchildren, Richard, Justin, Jeffery, Jason, Mark, Holly, Chelsey, Angel, Wendy and Melinda, great-great grandchildren, Alexis Marie Stewart and Melody Michelle Cheek and Nellie Jean Cheek, a sister, Georgia Smith of Cowan and his former wife, Dicie Hill of Decherd.

Brother Jay Miles will officiate services and burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens with military rites at graveside.

June Morgan Todd Wooten

June Morgan Todd Wooten, daughter of Carl Todd and the late Gladys Fletcher passed away at home August 31, 2003.

She is survived by her husband, Larry Wooten of Hillsboro, 3 sons, Mitch Wright of Tullahoma, Chris Wright of Pennsylvania, and Stephen Wooten of Manchester, 5 grandchildren and many loving family and friends.

Coffee County Funeral Chapel in Charge of Arrangements.

William V. Wright

Mr. Wright, age 67, passed away Thursday, July 9, 2004 at the Monteagle Care and Rehabilitation. He was the son of the late William and Virginia Odessa Parker Wright. He was a US Army Veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Louanne G. Wright of Manchester; two sons, James Wright of Birmingham, Alabama and John Wright of McMinnville; three daughters, Marie, Cindy and Amy Wright; one sister, Juanita James of Montgomery, Alabama; and eight grandchildren.

The family asks that donations be made to the American Kidney Foundation, in addition to floral arrangements.

Services will be held Sunday with Brother Edward Jones officiating.

Frankie Yates

Frankie Yates, age 59, of Manchester, died September 6, 2002

Robert Franklin Yates, began his career in law enforcement with the Manchester Police Department. November 1, 1982. He was promoted to Sgt. December of 1992, Promoted to Captain in July of 2001. Frankie was an outstanding officer serving with pride and dignity, he was the evening shift supervisor.

Captain Yates was preceded in death by his father, Hughie Franklin Yates.

He is survived by his parents, Floyd and Louise Haley, 2 daughters, Tracey Adams and Danielle Yates, 1 son, James Yates Carpenter of Arizona,

3 grandchildren, Lucas Carpenter, Marlee Carpenter and Zachary Adams,

2 brothers, James Yates and Jerry Yates.

Burial will follow in the Manchester City cemetery.

Coffee County Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Judy A. York

Judy A. York, age 51, Daughter of the late Oscar & Louise Pinegar passed away Sunday March 9, 2003 at her residence.

She is survived by: Husband: Sammy York of Manchester

Daughter: Kristy Summers of Winchester
Son: Kevin York of Manchester

2 Step sons: Timothy York of Normandy, TN
Kelly York of Bell Buckle, TN

Siblings: James Pinegar of Manchester
Juanita Tillmans of Houston, Tx
Wayne Pinegar of Manchester

2 Grandsons: Trey and Tye Summers

Burial will follow in the Wesley's Chapel cemetery

Grady Lee York

Grady Lee York, age 88, passed away Friday, September 17, 2004 at the United Regional Medical Center. A native of Summitville, TN, he was the son of the late Jesse Arledge York and Elizabeth Ester Werndli York.

Mr. York was a noted Coffee County Historian and a founding member of the Coffee County Historical Society. He was also instrumental in organizing historical data regarding Old Stone Fort. He was employed throughout his life in the banking industry, having worked at First National Bank and then retiring from People's Bank in the 1980's. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, the Steadfast Sunday School Class, the Stones River SAR Chapter, the Audubon Society, was appointed a Tennessee Colonel, was a member of the Central High School Alumni and was voted outstanding Alumni. He also served as Grand Marshall for Old Timer's Day in 2003 and 2004.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Willia Mae Phillips York, who passed away in 1998, brothers and sisters, Claytie Phillips, James Alton York, and Ola Mae White.

Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Jesse "Kenneth" (Janie) York of Murfreesboro; sister-in-law, Katie York of Jasper, Alabama; nieces and nephew, Debbi and Bill Martin, Gordon and Nancy Phillips, Steve York, Diane Wade, and Martha Jo Darrohn, and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews, and a very special, devoted old friend, Bennie.

Burial will be in the Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Doctor Brenton Cox will officiate the service.

Kenneth Young

Kenneth Young, age 61, of Manchester, died March 25, 2003

Mr. Young was preceded in death by his parents, James Earl Young and Martha Mae Meadows Young; two brothers, Ray Young and Earl Young, Jr.; and one granddaughter, Bethany Young.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Young of Manchester; three sons, Bill Young and Kenneth Patrick Young, both of Jackson, and Richard Young of Memphis; one step son, Jerry Plum of Kingston, MI; two step daughters, Lisa Plum of Manchester, and Kathy Plum of Ferndale, MI; five brothers, Van Young of Pleasant View, TN, Paul Young of Killeen, TX, Wayne Young of Hale, MI, Gary Young of Livingston, TN, and Johnny Young of Hermitage, TN; two sisters, Dorothy Statler of Cape Girardeau, MO, and Betty Rapp of Marion, IL; ten grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

Burial will follow in the Kirk cemetery, Perry County, TN.

Coffee County Funeral Chapel is in charge of local arrangements.

Paul Hillard Young

Paul Hillard Young, age 87, a resident of Manchester, passed away Tuesday, February 17, 2004 at his residence. He was born February 14, 2004 in Cook County, Georgia the son of the late Sally Thomas Young and John Henry Young.

He was retired from Colonial Bakery where he was employed for many years as bakery operator. He was a United States Army Veteran having served during WWII. He was also a member of Faith Freewill Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Ellie D. Young of Manchester, step-son, Kenneth R. Duke and wife, Mary Duke of Manchester, step-daughter, Wanda Williams of Birmingham, AL, 5 granddaughters, and two great-grandchildren, a brother-in-law, Durrell Cherry of Manchester and a niece, Wanda Eskew of Colquit, GA.

Burial will follow services on Thursday, February 19, 2004 at East Side Baptist Church cemetery in Dothan, AL. Brother Wendell Trussell will officiate services.

Audrey Mai Young

Audrey Mai Young, age 80, of Manchester passed away Sunday, November 28, 2004 at Manchester Health Care Center. She was born July 9, 1924 in Jackson County, TN the daughter of James C. Freeman and Repsie Denton Freeman. She was a homemaker and a member of Southside Church of Christ.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Alf Taylor Young and two sisters, Velma Rust and Catherine Frazier.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Robert E. and Vicki Young of Manchester, two grandchildren, Sally Worsham of Nashville and Jonathan Young of Manchester and a brother, Roger Freeman of Ft. Worth, Texas.

Brother Bill Bouldin and Brother Gordon Matthews will officiate services and burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.

Tandy William Youngblood

Tandy William Youngblood, age 73, passed away Sunday, September 5, 2004 at his residence. He was born February 9, 1931 in Davidson County, TN the son of the late Arcie Earnel Youngblood and Nora D. Davenport Youngblood.

He was employed for United Parcel Service for 12 years and was a retired diesel mechanic for Yellow Freight. He was a United States Marine Corp veteran having served from 1949 until 1956.

He is survived by his wife, Wilma Youngblood of Manchester, two children, Bill (Penny) Youngblood of Manchester and Susan (Larry) Robertson of Nashville, two grandchildren, Rachel and Matt Youngblood of Manchester, a brother, Hearl Youngblood of Auburntown, TN and two sisters, Linus B. (B.F.) Carney of Murfreesboro and Trera (Roy) Douglas of Winchester.

Brother Ralph Hart will officiate services and burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Nashville.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Multi-County Cancer Support Network.

Donald Lee Zinkon

Dr. Donald Lee Zinkon, age 74, a resident of Manchester and also of Haines City, FL passed away Sunday, May 23, 2004 at his residence in Manchester. He was born August 5, 1929 in Baltic, Ohio, the son of the late Howard and Hazel Marie Rinner Zinkon.

Following high school graduation, Dr. Zinkon attended Ohio Northern University where he earned his BS Degree in Pharmacy. In 1953, he was called to serve in the United States Army Medical Corp where he was a Corporal in the 7th Field Belecour. He was honorably discharged in 1955. he then attended the Kirksville School of Osteopathic Medicine and upon graduation in 1965 began his internship at Garden City Hospital in Garden City, Michigan. Following completion of his internship, he established a family practice office for a few years and then chose to pursue the field of Radiology. He served as Chairman of the Radiology Department at Garden City Hospital until his first retirement in 1986. Then he and wife, Novella, chose Manchester as their new home. While in Manchester, he served as head of the Department of Radiology at Manchester Medical Center and Emerald Hodgson Hospital in Sewanee until 1994.

In West LaFayette, Ohio, Dr. Zinkon was a 32 Degree Mason, a member of the Scottish Rite, the Tadmoor Shriners in Akron, Ohio, the American Legion Post 679 in Baltic, Ohio, and BPOE Lodge 1555, Newcomerstown, Ohio. He was also a member of numerous medical associations to include the National Osteopathic Association, the American College of Radiologist and the American Osteopathic Association.

He enjoyed fishing, boating and was an avid golfer. He was a member of the Grenelefe Golf and Tennis Resort in Haines City, FL. His love for golf was passed on to his only son, Dennis, who represents Nike Golf on the Nationwide Golf Tour. Dr. Zinkon also attended the Presbyterian Church in Haines City, FL.

Survivors include his loving wife of 45 years, Novella Joyce Dennis Zinkon, son, Dennis Lee Zinkon of Haines City, FL, brother, Jack Zinkon of Baltic, Ohio, sister, Patricia Denney of Columbus, Ohio and two nieces and two great-nieces.

Mary Sharpe Zopfi

Mary Shapre Zopfi, age 89, a resident of Manchester, TN, died Saturday, February 15, 2003 at United Regional Medical Center. She was born September 25, 1913 in Hermitage, TN the daughter of the late James Peyton Sharpe and Lena Louise Weaver Sharpe. She was retired after having served many years as an Administrative Assistant for the United States government. Mrs. Zopfi was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Tullahoma. In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions be made to the First Baptist Church in Tullahoma.

Survivors include a step-daughter, Ann Meador of Old Hickory, TN, niece Jeanette Freeze of Manchester, two nephews, Terry McGowen of Murfreesboro and Jerry Ferriss of El Paso, TX and several great nieces and nephews.

Dr. Herb Hester will officiate services. Interment icon will take place at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Nashville.
