Hutchens, Della McClurg, age 88, of South Knoxville, formerly of Blount County, passed away Thursday, February 27, 2003 at Hillcrest South Nursing Home. She was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church, Blount County. Preceded in death by husband, Faymer Hutchens, Sr.; parents, George A. and Ella McClurg; and son, Robert L. Hutchens.

Survivors

Son and daughter-in-law, Faymer and Pat Hutchens; son, Biddle Hutchens; daughter, Charlotte Weigel; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; and very special niece, Bobbi Miller. The family would like to thank the staff of Hillcrest South Nursing Home for their care.

Service

Family and friends will meet at 2:00 PM Saturday at Eusebia cemetery for graveside service with Minister Jeff Mabe officiating. Arrangements by Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Highway.

SHELTON, JOHN HENRY, age 74, of Corryton, passed away Tuesday, November 12, 2002. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles and retired from Ideal Cement Plant.

Dr. Andra L. Spurgeon

Spurgeon, Dr. Andra L., age 49 of South Knoxville passed away on Friday, November 1, 2002 after a long illness. He was owner-operator of Colonial Heights Chiropractic Office since 1979. He served on the board of trustees at Life University in Marietta, Georgia since 1979 and was a Reserve Deputy Sheriff in Blount County for 30 years.

His wife, Lucy Spurgeon; son and daughter-in-law, Andre' and Kristin Spurgeon; son, Jonathan Spurgeon and Fiance' Melanie Hammons; granddaughter, Kylee Spurgeon; parents, L.B.(Bud) and Janet Spurgeon; brothers, Ellis Spurgeon and Leroy Gaddis; sisters, Glenda Stephens, Nyoka Helton and Lena Scoggins; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Greg Bone and Donnie Long.

Friends will meet at Sherwood Memorial Gardens on Alcoa Highway Tuesday, November 5, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. for graveside services with his nephews serving as pall bearers. KEENE, LEE D., age 70, of Knoxville, formerly of Mt. Vernon, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, October 2, 2002 at St. Mary’s Hospital. Member of Fountain City United Methodist Church. He was a member of American College of Hospital Administrators and Kiwanis International.

Hood, Mary Edna Brown, age 90 of North Knoxville, passed away Sunday Morning, October 7, 2001 at the University of Tennessee Hospital. She was born in Knoxville September 26, 1911 and was a member of Alice Bell Baptist Church. Mrs. Hood was preceded in death by her husband, Charles C. Hood, Sr. and a son, Charles C. Hood, Jr. (Sonny).

Survivors: children, Mary Louise and Creed Patty and Elizabeth (Betty) Hood; grandson, Michael Hood; sister and brother-in-law, Faye and Henry Phipps; special devoted friends, Peggy and Maynard Johnson and several nieces and nephews. She was Mamaw Edna to Maynard, Matthew, Mark, Cody, Chelsea and Joey. A very special thank you to the staff of Continuum Courtyard 1 of Knoxville.

Dykes; parents Charlie and Rachel Varner; sisters, Annie Humphrey and Martha Manning; brothers, Mark and Avie Varner.

Brown, Elnora, age 85, of South Knoxville, passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2003 at Ft. Sanders Regional Hospital. She was a lifelong member of New Prospect Presbyterian Church where she served as an elder and sang in the choir. She was preceded in death by parents, Audley and Ella King; sisters, Evelyn McLain and Berniece Thomas; and brothers, Orville King, Billy King, and Burnette King.

Husband of 59 years, Kenneth F. Brown; son, Kenneth Samuel Brown; daughter, Linda B. Patterson; grandchildren, Samlynn Powell, Lori Patterson, Boyd Patterson, and Tommy S. Brown; and sisters, Lou Thomas and Peggy Henry.

Funeral service 2:00 PM Saturday, New Prospect Presbyterian Church, Rev. Phillip Bembower officiating. Interment icon will follow in New Prospect cemetery. Bohanan, Flora Trevena, age 87, passed away Tuesday, March 9, 2004 at Baptist Hospital. Flora was preceded in death by her husband, Oliver L. Bohanan, who retired from the Aluminum Company of America (ALCOA).

Daughter, Elizabeth; sons, James and Anthony, all of Knoxville; grandsons, Dewayne Hamilton, James O. Bohanan, Jr. and Steven W. Bohanan; granddaughter, Julie Pratt-Rutherford; great-grandsons, Nicholos Hamilton, Adam Bohanan, Jason Pratt and Jonah Rutherford; and great-granddaughters, Brittany Hamilton, Jessica and Jennifer Pratt, and Jordanna Rutherford. She was a member of Gayland Heights Baptist Church and was very active in church affairs before her health failed.

Hutchens, Edward F., age 74, of South Knoxville, passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2003 at his home. He was of the Baptist faith. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean Conflict. Retired from the University of Tennessee with 27 years of service. He was elected a Knox County Constable in August of 1960 and was a Captain with the Knox County Sheriff's Department for 10 years. He was preceded in death by mother, Clara Mae Hutchens; father, Herbert Hutchens; and brothers, William and Charles Hutchens.

loving and devoted wife of 47 years, Barbara Hutchens; sons, Michael and John Hutchens; grandson, Michael Edward Hutchens; brother, Earl Hutchens; sister, Juanita Cogdill of Glen Burnie, MD; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Lela Irene Cockrum Buchanan

Buchanan, Lela Irene Ingle Cockrum, of South Knoxville, died at her home on Friday, May 30, 2003. Born in Knoxville, Tennessee on July 15, 1927, she was raised in South Knoxville and was a 1945 graduate of Knoxville High. As a secretary, Lela was employed by First Baptist Church and later retired from TVA in 1987. As an active, long-time member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church, she loved her church family and enjoyed serving in various ministries throughout her life. Lela was preceded in death by her first husband, Leslie E. Cockrum and brother, Joseph A. (J.A) Ingle.

Husband of 15 years, George L. Interment icon services immediately following the funeral at Greenwood cemetery. Pallbearers will be Stanley Ingle, John Shepherd, David Georges, Philip Georges, Jonathan Buchanan, and Chad Cockrum.
