John P. "Simmie" Sanders, age 88, of South Knoxville, passed away Monday, September 28, 1998, at St. Mary's Medical Center. Longtime aviator & motorcycle enthusiast. He flew himself and his family over parts of North and South America. He started flying in the 1920's and has flown airplanes for over 70 years. He was owner of Sanders Cycle Company, a dealership for Harley-Davidson Motorcycles for 40 years. Member of Lake Forest Presbyterian Church and a devoted husband and family man.

Her love of God, family, and church were an inspiration to many. She was a longtime member of The Word of Life Ministry Church. Retired from Knoxville Glove Company. Preceded in death by her husband, Carl W. Henderson; parents, Joseph Hamilton and Martha Hamilton; sister, Audry Hamilton; brother, Joe Hamilton; daughter, Laruna Boyles; and son, Louis O. Fox.

Louise served as a Sunday School teacher and held many different positions in WMU. She was also actively involved in the work of the Baptist Center at Montgomery Village. She was preceded in death by husband, Roy A. Irwin; parents, Lon Capps and Mary Capps Johnson; grandson, David Nichols and son-in-law, Bill (Dub) Hensley.

McDaniels, Jr. and William M. Watkins, Jr., and an infant son.

Brown, Willard E., age 70, of South Knoxville, born
April 8, 1933, died Saturday, November 29, 2003. He was a member of Sevier Heights Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Frank Brown and mother Grace Brown of Kingsport, Tennessee. Raised in Kingsport, and served in the U.S. Air Force in the 809th Air Police Unit at McDill Air Force Base, Tampa, Florida, as a sergeant. He graduated from East Tennessee State with a B.S. in Education and a Masters Degree from the University of Tennessee. He worked in the Knoxville City School System as a teacher and coach at South High School from 1956-74, serving as head football coach from 1966-73. In 1974 he became assistant principal at Gresham Jr. High School. In 1976 he became principal of Rule High School from where he retired in 1983. In 1979 he was recognized as Vocational Principal of the year. His 1969 South High football team was the first team to qualify under the newly established TSSAA playoff system. In 1980 he was awarded a Danforth Foundation Principal’s Fellowship for Urban Administrators. In 1982-83, Rule High School was selected by the Ford Foundation as one of the top twelve inner-city high schools in the United States. In 1983 he was awarded the Mayor’s Merit Award by the City of Knoxville.
