Shaffer, Alma Margaret Felder, age 81, of Charlotte, NC passed away on Monday, Aug 9, 2004 at Wesley Care Center, Charlotte. Born August 20, 1922 in Summerton, SC, she lived in Columbia SC, and then in Knoxville, TN for 54 years and was a member of Church Street United Methodist Church. Ms. Shaffer is preceded in death by her husband, Hubert P. Shaffer; brother, Julius Felder; and sister, Frances Potter.

Her sister, Kathryn Suttlemyre, of Hickory, NC; children, Douglas P. Shaffer, Knoxville, TN; Barbi S. Hughes, Charlotte, NC; Kenneth F. Shaffer, Knoxville, TN; Julie S. Moffatt, Chapin, SC; Laura S. Brewer, Charlotte, NC; 9 grandchildren.

King, Eleanor, age 83, of West Knoxville, passed away Friday, November 21, 2003 at her home. She was a member of Arlington Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville, Florida. More recently, she had been attending Concord United Methodist Church. A resident of Jacksonville, Florida for many years, Eleanor and her husband Harold enjoyed golf at Selva Marina Country Club. Preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Harold King.

James, Freda Hayes Brewer, age 54, our Angel on Earth became an Angel in Heaven with the Lord Tuesday, May 4, 2004, after battling breast cancer for about four years. She was a member of Sevier Heights Baptist Church. She worked in the Knox County School System over 18 years. Preceded in death by first husband, Perry Brewer; father, Mayford Hayes; and brothers, James Hayes, Maxie Hayes, and LeRoy Hayes.

Duncan, Sam, age 59, of South Knoxville went to be with the Lord Saturday, July 10, 2004. Veteran of the United States Army serving during the  Vietnam War. He was also a Mason. Sam was co-owner of Sam and Jerry’s Markets. He coached youth baseball, basketball and football and was an avid golfer. He was preceded in death by parents Joseph and Maxine Duncan; sister Doris Warren; brother Danny Duncan.

Loving and devoted wife of 39 years, Jody Harris Duncan; son and daughter-in-law Randy and Kamela Duncan; daughter and son-in-law Rhonda and Les Mullins; grandchildren whom he cherished, Ashlyn Wynns, Miranda and Caleb Duncan; sisters: Juanita Wilson of Miami, FL; Bobbie Pruitt of White Pine, TN; Brenda Mosley of Harlan, KY; Sandra Hinson of Dandridge, TN; and Judy Elkins of White Pine, TN; brothers: Melvin Reynolds of Las Vegas, NV; Charles Duncan of Morristown, TN; “Jim” Larry Kenneth Duncan of Miami, FL; Rev. Fannie White

White, Fannie Lee Alexander Wells, “Granny White,” age 95, formerly of Tomassee Drive in South Knoxville, died Monday, July 12, 2004. Granny was born icon in Claiborne County, TN on October 21, 1908. She was a long time member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. For the past three years she has been a resident of Asbury Place and the family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff for their loving care. Preceded in death by parents, John Mitchell and Nora Ausmus Alexander; step mother, Cora Rogers Alexander; husbands, Herman Wells and A.D. White, Sr.; brother, Bill Alexander; sisters, Barbara Turner, Alida Alexander; children, Lorraine Chambers, Mitchell Wells, A. David White, Jr., Albania Milani and Beth Haynes; sons-in-law, Jack Milani, Tom Milani and Ken Haynes.

STRINGFIELD, HENSON FLOYD age 84 is home. He has passed from this world to the next to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ in Eternal Peace. He was a member of Cedar Bluff Baptist Church. Retired from Oak Ridge National Laboratories (X-10) where he worked on the Manhatten Project.

He leaves us with memories of a Godly man who loved life and his wife of 67 years, Mattie Fox Stringfield; daughter, Doris Stringfield Powers; son, Robert Gene Stringfield and wife Sandy; 8 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. He is also mourned by brothers and sisters-in-law Hezz and Helen, Charles and Chris, Bill and Connie Stringfield and Lawson Stringfield; sister and brother-in-law Clara Mae and Oliver Keeling.

Victoria Rose Mizell

Mizell, Victoria Rose, age 13, of Vero Beach, Florida, left this world at 7:03 AM November 14, 2003 following a three year battle with a brain tumor. She was the beloved daughter of Michelle McDaniel of Vero Beach, Florida and Thomas Mizell of Knoxville, Tennessee. Born December 12, 1989 in Maryville, Tennessee, Victoria attended schools in Blount and Knox Counties before moving to Florida in 1998. She attended Osceola Magnet School and this fall was in the eighth grade at Oslo Middle School in Vero Beach. She was an exceptional student who always gave her very best. Throughout her illness, she never lost her ability to laugh and smile nor her love for animals (especially horses), music, art, cartoons, silly jokes, and people of all ages. Truly, Victoria never met a stranger, and fittingly, she was no stranger to thousands of people who prayed for her after her diagnosis. The family wishes to thank her many “friends” who provided spiritual and financial support during this difficult time. They also want to thank the numerous doctors, nurses, and other medical personnel in Orlando, Boston, and Durham, North Carolina as well as the staff of Hospice House in Vero Beach; Angel Flight; Make A Wish Foundation; Ronald McDonald Houses of Boston, Massachusetts and Durham, North Carolina; and the National Children’s Cancer Society who so generously helped as she waged this battle. She was preceded in death by Grandmother Sharon Miller; Granddaddy Jim McDaniel; Great-grandfather Hardy Voyle Huffstutter; Great-grandfather Earl Mizell.

In addition to her father and mother, survivors include: stepmother Cristal Mizell of Knoxville; “Pappaw” Ray and “Mammaw” Kay Mizell; Great-grandmother Ethel Mizell; Grandma Jane and Grandpa Harry Jackson, all of Maryville; Grandmother Karen Gooch and Grandfather Dan Hall, and Aunt Michelle Rich and cousins Shannon and Jessica Rich, all of Palm Bay, Florida; Great-grandmother Marion Huffstutter; Uncle Bill and Aunt Carmen Miller; cousins Billy, Brenda, and Barbie Miller all of Orlando, Florida; Stepfather Robert McDaniel and “Grandmomma” Margie McDaniel, both of Maryville, Tennessee; step-sister Ashley McDaniel of Orlando, Florida; several great-aunts, great-uncles, and cousins.
