McGinnis; daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Scott Brewer; granddaughter, Caitlyn Elizabeth Brewer; brothers and sister-in-laws, Gene and Carol Copeland, Jimmie and Georgia Copeland, and Eddie and Lu Ann Copeland; and several nieces and nephews. A special thanks to the Nursing and support staff of Hillcrest North Medical Nursing Home.

Canaday, Zack, age 85, of Knoxville, passed away Thursday, June 3, 2004 at home. He was a member of Lake Hills Presbyterian Church. Veteran of United States Army having served during World War II and was also a member of South Knoxville Lodge #769 F&AM. He was retired from Robert Shaw Controls. Preceded in death by wife, Lela Miller Canaday.

Roger Dale Wells

Wells, Roger Dale, age 63, of Nashville, formerly of Oak Ridge, passed away August 19, 2004 after a long illness. Mr. Wells loved life and never met a stranger. He was an avid golfer and a former member of Oak Ridge Country Club. He was also a veteran of the United States Navy.

Wife Teresa Hammer Wells; children: Sheree Johnson of Maynardville TN, Michael Scott Wells of Andersonville TN, Brian David Wells of San Jose’ CA, step-son Matthew G. Monday and wife Hassie of Clinton TN; grandchildren: Sarai Johnson, Hannah Johnson, Kristyn Wells, Ashley Wells, Meagan Wells and Chelsea Armes; sister Nancy Hall and husband Marvin of Elizabeth Colorado; brother Phillip Wells and wife Nancy of Macon GA; several nieces and nephews.

Service

Memorial service 10 AM Tuesday, Lynnhurst-Greenwood Chapel. Family will receive friends Monday from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Lynnhurst-Greenwood Chapel of Berry Funeral Home.

Mary Dyer

Dyer, Mary Dorene Stowers age 92 went to be with the Lord, family and friends on Saturday evening March 6, 2004. Preceded in death by husband; Fred Lansing Dyer, parents: Wendell and Dora Stowers, three sisters and two brothers. She will be missed by daughter and son-in-law: Martha and Kent Anderson of the home; Grandchildren: Christine, Ellison and husband Todd of Strawberry Plains, Mark McMillan and wife Laura of Chattanooga. Step-grandchildren: Russ Anderson and wife Melissa of Knoxville, Marty Lowe and husband Scott of Knoxville. Great-grandchildren: Brandon, Michael Todd, Heather, Timothy, Chaney, Samantha, Matt and Rebekah; and special friend Juanita.

Survivors

She was a member of Straw Plains United Methodist Church and former member of Burlington Methodist Church. She loved the Lord with all of her heart and gave of the fruit of that love in the many afghans she made for all those she met along the way. The family would like to extend our gratitude to First Tennessee Bank for all the love they showed her and at the grocery store in which she traded. The family would also like to extend a special thanks to the Drs. and staff at St. Mary’s Hospital and to Advent Hospice for their efforts in making her more comfortable.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 8 P.M. at Lynnhurst-Greenwood Chapel with Pastor Robert Hobbs and Bruce Hensley officiating. Graveside services will be Wednesday at 11:00 A.M. at Lynnhurst Cemetery icon Serving as pallbearers will be: Clay Wilkey, Brandon Roberts, David Hurst, Johnny Ray Stowers, David George and Adam Dunn. The Family will receive friends Tuesday from 5 to 8 P.M. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Advent Hospice

She is preceded in death by parents, Ruth and Robert L. Mingle, Sr.; husband, James. E. Ritchie; brother, Robert L. Mingle, Jr. and stepdaughter, Marie Bryant.

Sons, Roger L. Ritchie of Knoxville, James G. Ritchie and wife, Eden of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Jerry L. Ritchie of Hazard, Kentucky; grandson, Matthew Ritchie of Clinton and step-granddaughter, Amber Bryant.

Gladys Evelyn Green Maples

Maples, Gladys Evelyn Green, passed away Monday, November 10, 2003 at St. Mary’s Holston Health Care. Born February 15, 1912, to Viola and Simon Green, Gladys was a member of Valley Grove Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Cledith Lee; brothers: William, James, B.H., Ted, Fred and Hubert Green.

Survivors

Loving husband of 65 years, James P. Maples; daughters and sons-in-law: Kaye and Carlton Cooper, Joy and Jon Moore, Dianne and Gary Forry; son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Susan Maples; 11 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and extended family. The family wishes to thank the staff of St. Mary’s Holston Health Care and St. Mary’s Hospice.

Service

A celebration of her life will be held at Valley Grove Baptist Church, Chapman Highway, at 7:00 PM Thursday, Dr. Bobby Tucker and Rev. Harry Mynatt officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM prior to the funeral. Family and friends will meet at Highland South Cemetery icon on Friday at 11:00 AM for interment icon services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Valley Grove Baptist Church, the J.P. and Gladys Maples Scholarship Endowment Fund at the University of Tennessee or the Gay Harris Scholarship at Carson Newman College. Cox, Mary, age 77, of Knoxville, passed away Thursday, November 27, 2003 at Baptist Hospital. She was of the Baptist faith and was retired from Baptist Hospital. Preceded in death by infant daughter; sister, Bertha Richards; parents, John and Martha Williams.

Daughters, Pat Greene and husband, Jim, Teresa Long, all of Knoxville; son, Terry Long of Cape Canaveral, Florida; grandchildren, Elizabeth Greene, Andrew, Nicholas and Thomas Long; brothers, Johnnie Williams and Charles Williams; lifelong friend, Lela Monroe. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Dean Mire and to the staff of NHC Fort Sanders for their care and compassion.

Adina Smith

Smith, Virginia “Adina”, age 76, of Strawberry Plains, formerly of Knoxville, went to her Heavenly Home on Saturday August 21, 2004 at St. Mary’s Hospital. She was a member of Dutch Valley Church of God and attended various churches in the area. Mrs. Smith, along with her husband, the late Rev. H. Lloyd Smith, was active in various pastoral services. She enjoyed writing poetry, gardening and various crafts. Mrs. Smith was a retired teacher from Knoxville City and Knox County School Systems having taught at Park Junior High, Vine Middle School, and Beardsley Middle School. Preceding her in death is her husband, the Rev. H. Lloyd Smith.

Survivors

She is survived by: daughters and sons-in-law: Cheri and Artie Trott; and Cathi and Eddie Jones; Cherished granddaughters: Tiffani Jones and Aloha Trott; step-grandchildren: Tiffany and Steven Trott; Brothers and Sisters-in-law: Daniel and Martha Vaught, and the Rev. Dr. Laud O. and Jewel Vaught; sister Isabell Via; and several nieces and nephews.

Service

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 8:00pm at Central Church of God with the Rev. Jack Dean and the Rev. Cecil Busey officiating. Family and Friends will meet at Lynnhurst Cemetery icon for Entombment at 12:00am on Wednesday. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00pm before the service at Central Church of God 4721 Papermill Drive in Knoxville. Arrangements by Lynnhurst-Greenwood Chapel of Berry Funeral Home.

David Gossett

Gossett, David, age 84, of Maryville, went to be with the Lord Saturday August 21, 2004. He attended Laurel Banks Baptist Church in Maryville. He was retired at the age of 50 from the Federal Government after 30 years of service.

Survivors

His survivors include: daughter Renda Sasscer and son Donald Gossett, 7 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and sister Grace Gossett.

Service

The funeral service will be at 9:30a.m.Tuesday in the chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Bailey and the Rev. Roberta Sasscer officiating. . The interment icon will be at 11:30am Tuesday at TN Veterans Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm on Monday night at Berry Funeral Home, 3704 Chapman Highway.

Milo Clark, Jr.

Clark, Jr., Milo, age 82, of South Knoxville, passed away at Fort Sanders Regional Hospital Thursday, August 19, 2004. Member of Meridian Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Army of World War II European Theatre and he also received the Silver Star and Purple Heart medals. Preceded in death by parents, Milo and Agnes Clark, Sr.; wife, Nadine Townsend Clark; daughter, Donna Jo Gowan; and brother, Clifford Clark.

Dana Fachman officiating. military honors will be conducted by Volunteer State Veterans Honor Guard. She was a graduate of Old Knoxville High School and operated Tic-Toc Day Care for twenty-five years. She was preceded in death by mother and father, Eva Caldwell Chandler and Sam H. Chandler, Sr., sister, Sue Spotts of Charlotte, NC.
