MILLER, JOHNNIE A. - age 70, of Croswell, Mich. and Knoxville, Tenn., died Sunday, September 26, 1999, in Port Huron, Mich. He was born June 25, 1929, in Wallins Creek, Ky. the son of Rice and Ida Miller. He was on the Church of God faith. He served in the US Army. He retired from Pontiac Motors as a foreman after 40 years of service. He was a member of the UAW and the Clarkston American Legion. Survivors: companion and best friend, Agnes Francis of Croswell, Mich. and Knoxville, Tenn.; sister, Eloise Webb, Knoxville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Martha and Louis Childres, Searcy, Ark., Mary and Robert Pickett, Jacksonville, Fla.; sister, Georgia Boggs, Jacksonville, Fla.; special nephew, Jack Alley and wife, Peggy of Knoxville; and several other nieces and nephews. Family and friends will meet at the entrance to McCarty Woodhaven Memorial Gardens on Wednesday at 11:15 a.m. for an 11:30 a.m. graveside service and interment. Pastor Jack Dean and Pastor Mark Kidd officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 871 Weisgarber Rd., Knoxville, TN 37909 or to your local church. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Stevens Mortuary, Oglewood Ave. at Broadway.

PLASTER, NANNIE WYATT - age 79, of Niota, died Sunday. Member of Union-McMinn Baptist Church and retired employee of Niota Textile. Preceded in death by husband, Arlie Plaster and sister, Sue Toomey. Survivors: two daughters, Diane Casteel of Riceville and Marie Plaster of Chattanooga; two sons, Jackie Plaster and Bill Plaster, both of Niota; brother, Clarence Wyatt of Englewood; sister, Mrs. Estelle McDonald of Carrollton, Ga.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with Revs. Clinton Riddle and Garry King officiating. Burial will follow in McMinn Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home in Athens, Tenn.

POWELL, PAULINE - age 76, of Powell, passed away Friday, September 24, 1999 at Sunbridge Health Care Center in Maynardville. Preceded in death by: husband, Clarence E. Powell; sons, Tommy and James Powell. Survivors: sons and daughters-in-law, Loren (Bud) and Roberta McDowell, Clarence E. Jr. and Janice Powell, Paul and Tracy Powell, and Millard Powell; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Service 8 p.m. Monday Mynatt's Chapel, Rev. Tim Inkellbarger and Rev. John Johnson officiating. Family and friends will meet at Lynnhurst cemetery for interment icon service 10 a.m. Tuesday. PURKEY, VIDA PICKEL, age 97of Lenior City passed away Monday afternoon September 27, 1999 at Park West Hospital. Vida was a member of New Providence Baptist Church for many years, but had recently changed her membership to Bell Ave. Baptist Church. She was a resident of the Loudon Health Care Center for the past three years. Vida was preceded in death by parents, Rufus Pickel and Tennie Hudson Pickel;. Husband, Homer Purkey; sons, Carl, Kenneth, and Roy Purkey. Survivors: children and spouses, Maxine and Hugh Manis, William and Kay Purkey, Betty and Howard Pratt, Barbara and Frank Wrather and Troy Purkey all of Lenoir City, Ray and Odie Purkey of Sevierville, Faye and Lloyd Oran of Loudon; 17 grandchildren; several great, great great, and great, great, great grandchildren ; sister, Julia Crawford of Knoxville. Several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services 11 a.m. Thursday Click Funeral Home Chapel Rev. Obie Campbell and Rev. Arville J. Crawford officiating. Interment icon Zions Chapel cemetery. SANDERS, VIRGINIA "GINNY" ROSE, age 85, of Knoxville, passed away September 26, 1999 at her home. She was born October 4, 1913 at Ezel, Kentucky. She was a graduate of Moorehead State Teachers College in Kentucky in 1939 and taught elementary school for several years. She met her late husband J.P. "Simmie" Sanders when he made a forced landing near her schoolhouse. After they were married in 1943, they operated Sanders Cycle Company, a dealership for Harley-Davidson motorcycles. She was a member of the DAR. Member of Lake Forest Presbyterian Church. Survivors: son & daughter-in-law, Barry & Nancy Sanders; daughter, Gina Rose Davis; granddaughters, Skye, Star & Summer Sanders, Camellia & Virginia Davis; brother & sister-in-law, Harold & Dorothy Rose, Ezel, Ky.; nephew, Johnny Rose, Ezel, Ky. Memorial service 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, Barry Chapel, Rev. Dana Fachman officiating. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Hwy.

SOWARDS, EVA JO WYRICK, age 70 of 801 West Fourth Avenue Lenoir City went home to be with Jesus Sunday morning September 26, 1999 at Loudon Hospital after a lengthy battle with cancer. Eva was preceded in death by parents, Charles and Ada Huffman Wyrick. Brothers, Charles and Howard Eugene Wyrick; sister, Selma Wyrick Campbell. Survivors: husband, Ralph F. Sowards; son, Gregory C. Sowards; daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Ron Colquitt all of Lenoir City; grandson, Michael Mattison of Lenoir City and Ronald Bradley Colquitt of Maryville; great grandchildren, Samantha McDaniel and Devan Westall; sister, Iva Wyrick Swann of Dandridge, Elsie Tinder of Lenoir City, Geneva Wyrick Duff of Lenoir City; brother, Curtis Wyrick of California; several nieces and nephews. TUCKER, RONALD EUGENE "GENE" - age 67, of Corryton, went to his heavenly home Sunday, Sept. 26, 1999. Member of North Acres Baptist Church and retired from Florida Steel. Preceded in death by parents, Hardin Tucker and Florence Crawford; and brother, Wayne Tucker. Survivors: wife, Grace Tucker; daughters, Debbie Parker and husband, Roger, Thelma Lett; grandchildren, Shane Moore, Renae and Zachery Parker; brothers, Vestal Tucker, Malcolm and Nelson Crawford; sisters, Thelma Light, Novella Kerr, Mary Chaplin, Margaret Miller and Pat Nicely; several nieces, nephews and brothers and sisters-in-law; loving miniature schnauzer "Babe". VOLZ, JOHN G. "SARG", 74 of North Knoxville died, Sunday Sept. 26, 1999 at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center. He was of the Protestant faith and attended Inskip Baptist Church. He was a partner in Medico Service; retired from the U.S. Air Force with over 20 years service. Veteran of WWII, member of Fountain City Lodge #757 F&AM, Order of Eastern Star Chapter 184, Kirksville, Missouri. Survivors: wife of 48 years, Kathleen Jenkins, Volz, Knoxville; twin brother, George J. Volz, Spokan, Wash.; sister-in-laws, Stella Cameran, Georgia Story; brother-in-law, James Jenkins, all of Knoxville; several nieces and nephews. Family and friends will meet at Tenn. State Veterans cemetery at 1:45 a.m. Wednesday for a 12:00 noon graveside service Rev. Dr. Mike Seager officiating. Full military honors by the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard. WHITE, S.M., JR. - age 70, of Powell, passed away at home Sept. 24, 1999. He was retired from East Tennessee Packing Co., veteran of the Korean War and was of the Baptist faith. Survivors: wife, Evelyn White; son, Steven White; daughter-in-law, Dustin White; brothers and sisters-in-law, Millard and Ruth White, Raymond and Jackie White; sister-in-law, Jeanette Moss; nieces and nephews, Pam Hopper, Lance and Sherry, Chuck and Mary Ann Gray, Steve and Rita Kiser, Roy and Evelyn White, Jim White and Angie Norman; special friends, Mary Lou Ottinger, Jane Worth, Claude and Sally Brabston, Tom Ward, Don and Dotty Sharp, Wayne and Judy Keener and all his bowling friends at Starlight. WILLIAMSON, BOBBY LEE - age 62, of Duff, passed away Sunday, September 26, 1999, at Jellico Community Hospital. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Williamson was a member of Melrose Masonic Lodge, Norwood, Ohio and US Navy veteran. Preceded in death by parents, Robert and Virginia Williamson; and brother, James Williamson. Survivors: wife, Eunice Williamson; son and daughter-in-law, Darin and Robin Williamson; and grandchild, Cheyenne, all of Duff; other relatives and friends. WILSON, ZOLA STEADMAN - age 71, of Mascot, passed away Saturday, September 25, 1999 at St. Mary's Hospice. She was retired from Emery's and was of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Wilson was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Irene Steadman; her husband, Thomas H. Wilson; one daughter, Brenda Wilson; and a brother, Kenneth Steadman. Survivors include: two sons, Steve and Robert Wilson; two daughters, Patricia Oaks and Linda Hopper; four brothers, Lee, Frank, Wayne, and Ronnie Steadman; two sisters, Jean Bennett and Martha Hawkins; seven grandchildren, Tina and Lori Wilson, Angela, David, and Emily Hopper, Shelley Oaks, and Crystal Caldwell; several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, at Eastview Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Stacy Lawson officiating. She is survived by her daughters, Faye Patterson, Pauline Harbin, Gladys Greenlee, Dotothy Lindsey, Loretta Ward, Linda Ward, Judy Ballinger and Imogene Dalton; sons, Coy Coffey and Billy Coffey; eighteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
