BALL, MARY RUTH ROLEN - of Lenoir City, passed away Sunday, October 22, 2000, at the U.T. Medical Center. She was of the Baptist faith. Preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Josie Coker Rolen; grandson, Rodney Ball. Survived by loving devoted companion for 18 years, Gerald Richardson; sons and daughters-in-law, Chester and Sheree Ball of Farragut, Kenny Ball of Loudon; daughters and son-in-law, Debbie and David Bray and Regina Large, all of Lenoir City, Sandra Jacobs and husband Willis; 15 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; ex-husband, Ernest Lee Ball; brother, Ed Rolen of Lenoir City; sisters and brothers-in-law, Alice and William Bane and Margaret Duncan, both of Sweetwater, Louella and Walter Phillips and Violet Purdy, both of Lenoir City; step children, Debbie Ervin of Lenoir City and Rod Richardson of Florida; several nieces and nephews. BEATY, ROSEMARY - age 55, of Knoxville, passed away Sunday morning, October 22, 2000, at Baptist Hospital. She was a former surgical technician at the University of Tennessee Medical Center, Knoxville. Preceded in death by former spouse and friend, George Beaty, she is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law, Georgetta and TSgt John C. Smith, of Baltimore, Md.; sisters, Ernestine "Tinie" Booker of Knoxville, Linda Pride-Parker of Raleigh, N.C. (Kenny), and brother Arthur Holt of Knoxville. Her devoted companion Charles "Pap" Beatty and two loving and devoted nieces, Yvette Booker of Knoxville and Kimberly Brabson (Walter) of Atlanta, Ga. Loving niece and nephew, Lakesha and Percell Booker of Knoxville, as well as a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends. The family will receive friends Wednesday, October 25 at Unity Mortuary Chapel at 1425 McCalla Ave. from 3:30-4 p.m. with services immediately following, Dr. Kelly Smith, Pastor of Mt. Retired from Harriman Utility Board, member of IBEW Local 760 Knoxville, member of Riverside Baptist Church. COLLINS, GERALDINE MARTIN - age 71, of West Knoxville, died 1:30 p.m. Sunday, October 22, 2000, at her home, after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was a member of Lincoln Park Baptist Church. CONATSER, JOHNNIE ALLEEN HELLARD - age 72, passed away Sunday, October 22, 2000, at her residence. She is of the non-denominational Christian faith. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, John E. Conatser, Sr.; sons and daughters-in-law, John and Judy Conatser of Philadelphia, Tenn., Pinky and Melanie Conatser of Halls, Tenn.; son, William R. Conatser of Knoxville; daughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth and John Riggs of Virginia, Frances and Rick Childress of Seymour, Tenn., Linda and Sonny Keller of Knoxville; daughter, Kathy Darden of Knoxville; sisters, Kathleen Lonas, Glenna Keck, Margaret Keeling, Barbara Farmer, Beatrice Ward, Cynthia Harb; brother, John Turner Hellard; step sister, Ruth Byrd; step brothers, Franklin and Dick Landreth; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren. DODGEN, KATHERINE OAKLEY - age 80, of Sevierville, daughter of the well known "Roamin' Man of the Mountains" Wiley Oakley, passed away Monday, October 23, 2000, at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Gatlinburg. She was preceded in death by her husband, Perry Dodgen; parents, Wiley and Rebecca Ann Oakley; son, George "Mike" McClain; brothers, Reuben Cates Oakley, Elmer Oakley and Charles H. Oakley; sister, Clara Jane Ford Oakley. Survivors: children, Martha Lou Huskey and husband Ray and Patrick Dodgen and wife Brenda; grandchildren, Lisa Huffaker and husband Marty, Melanie Newman and husband Tommy, Janet Justus, Christopher Huskey and wife Erin, Cindy Flynn and husband Buster, Brian McClain, Michelle McClain, Rachel Dodgen, and Rebecca Dodgen; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Lucinda Oakley Ogle and Martha Oakley Rawlings; brothers, Woodrow Oakley, Orville Oakley, Harvey Oakley and wife Melba, Dave Oakley and Casey Oakley; many special nieces and nephews. "JIM" - age 71, of Louisville, Tenn., departed this life at his home, Sunday, October 22, 2000. He was preceded in death by parents, Homer M. and Eula M. Farrington, and brother, William E. Farrington. He was a member of Lincoln Park Baptist Church, he sang in the adult choir and taught a special education Sunday School Class for young men. He was retired from Gulf Life Insurance Company, an avid golfer and sportsman, he made many friends at Laurel Valley and Pine Lakes Golf Clubs. He was featured in several wild turkey and quail hunts on Wayne Pearson's ESPN Show. Survivors: loving wife, Pat Kennedy Farrington of Louisville; sons, James Allen Farrington and wife Leanna of Allentown, Penn., John Rodney Farrington and wife Mary of Johnson City, and Bobby Jay Farrington of Knoxville; brothers, Frank L. Farrington and wife Millie of Griffin, Ga., Kenneth W. Farrington and wife Jo Ann of Melbourne, Fla.; sisters, Carolyn Sue Jeffcoat and husband F.M. and Dottie Johnson, all of Panama City, Fla.; step children, Leslie M. Kennedy of Harrison, Tenn., Keith A. Kennedy of Knoxville, Sherri Bush and husband Burt of Springdale, Ark.; former mother-in-law, Martha Shoemaker of Maryville; aunt, Effie Farrington of Knoxville; nine grandchildren and one great-grandson, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. FARROW, LISA ANN ALVIN - age 43, of Knoxville, passed away Monday, October 21, 2000, at St. Mary's Hospital, Knoxville. She was born August 3, 1952 in Moline, Illinois. Survivors: parents, James and Annette Alvin of Conyers, Ga.; husband, Shawn Farrow of Knoxville; brother, Michael and Mona Alvin of Augusta, Ga.; nieces, Kaitlin and Linby Alvin of Augusta, Ga. Church Mass will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 25, 2000, at St. Pius Catholic Church, Conyers, Ga,, Fr. Michael Henninger officiating. Interment icon in Fairview Memorial Gardens, Stockbridge, Ga. GOODALE, NAOMI SWEAT - age 85, of Andersonville, passed away Sunday, October 22, 2000, at Windwood Health Center. Member of Fairview Freewill Baptist Church. Preceded in death by husbands, Roy Sweat and Harold Goodale. Survived by son and daughter-in-law, Jess and Glenda Sweat; grandchildren, Vanessa Nighbert and Jeffrey Sweat; great-grandchild, Chanler Cox; sister, Recie McBee and two nieces. Funeral service 2 p.m. Wednesday at Fairview Freewill Baptist Church, Rev. Glen Hall and Rev. Bill Moore officiating. Interment icon to follow in the church cemetery. HANDS, SHIRLEY ANN - age 70, of the Tellico Village Community, Loudon, Tenn., formerly of Naperville, Illinois, and Clarendon Hills, Illinois, passed away in her home on Monday, October 23, 2000, surrounded by her loving husband and family. Shirley and Richard Hands moved to the Tellico Village Community in 1990, and immediately became involved in the church and in the Tennessee spirit of volunteering. Shirley was a member of the St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Lenoir City, Tenn. Caring for others was her signature in life. She was a registered nurse for many years in the Chicago area. Her last position was Director of Nursing at Franciscan Friary in Oak Brook, Illinois. Later, she volunteered at the Fort Sanders Loudon Medical Center. As a caregiver, she filled the lives of those she touched with hope and joy. She is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Richard Hands. She was the beloved mother to six children, Janet Marie Price of Scottsdale, Ariz., Judith Elizabeth Reier of Andover, Maine, Jill Louise Butts of Naperville, Ill., Steven Michael Hands of Park Ridge, Ill., Paul David Hands of Sherborn, Mass. and David Richard Hands of Chicago, Ill.; 13 grandchildren; two brothers, Donald Devine of Southfield, Mich. and William Devine of Oxford, Mich.; sister, Mary Lou Zaums of Lambertville, Mich.; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. A Mass of the Resurrection will follow at 11 a.m. with Father Steve LaPrad officiating. HARTON, MARY ELIZABETH "ZIB" - died Sunday, October 22, 2000, at Shannondale Health Care Center. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Cathedral, Pi Beta Phi Sorority, and the P.E.O. Sisterhood. She was a long time resident of Highland Hills in West Knoxville. She was born and reared in Council Bluffs, Iowa and graduated from Iowa State University in 1928. Immediately thereafter, she came to Knoxville to accept a teaching position at the University of Tennessee College of Home Economics, where she taught for approximately twenty years. Mrs. Harton was preceded in death by her husband, H. M. Harton Jr., a long time partner in the Knoxville law firm of Frantz, McConnell, and Seymour. She is survived by her sister, Ruth Innes Cowan of Council Bluffs; niece, Carol Willis, and grand nieces, Molly Willis and Jennifer Willis, all of Rome, Ga. Mrs. Harton and her husband especially enjoyed gardening at their home and acquisition of antique furniture and artifacts. Funeral service 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Episcopal Cathedral with The Rev. Canon Thomas J. Rasnick officiating. Family and friends will meet at Highland Memorial cemetery for an interment icon service at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. Memorials are suggested to St. John's Episcopal Cathedral, P.O. HERRON, ELIZABETH ANN "BETTY" - age 51, of East Ridge, Tenn., passed away Saturday, October 21, 2000, at her home. A native of Nairobi, Kenya, she was a graduate of City High School and a 1971 graduate of Covenant College. Mrs. Herron had taught school in Chattanooga and Philadelphia, Penn., and served as a missionary in Uganda for 15 years, where she taught sewing, handcrafting and Bible. She is a member of New City Fellowship at Westminster and in 1984, was chosen as Alumnus of the Year at Covenant College. She is survived by her husband, Daniel F. Herron; two daughters, Esther Herron Wilhelm of Lookout Mountain, Ga. and Lydia Grace Herron of East Ridge; three sons, Daniel M. Herron of Denver, Colo., Peter S. Herron and Luke D. Herron, both of Lookout Mountain, Ga.; parents, Sanders and Grace Campbell of Clinton, S.C.; brother, David Campbell of Dalaba, Guinea, West Africa; two sisters, Sandra Mason of Antioch, Tenn. and Ruth Jones of Franklin, Tenn.; two nieces and one nephew also survives. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at New City Fellowship with Rev. Randy Nabors officiating. Interment icon will be at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at Roane County Memorial Park, Rockwood, Tenn. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home, Rossville, Ga. In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Herron asked that memorial contributions be made to World Harvest Mission for Christ School-Bundiguyo, 100 W. Avenue, Suite W960, Jenkintown, PA 19046, helping children of church leaders to attend secondary school.

JOHNSON, MRS. MASEL T. - age 91, passed away Saturday, October, 21, 2000, at a nursing home in Panama City, Fla., where she had lived for the past five years. Her husband, Allen B. Johnson Jr., who passed away in 1975 preceded Mrs. Johnson in death. Mrs. Johnson was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Knoxville. Mrs. Johnson is survived by her son, Van Johnson and his wife Peggy of Panama City, and grandson, Allen Benjamin of Knoxville; two sisters-in-law, Judy Troxler of Springport, Ind. and Cleo Hyder of Knoxville; one brother-in-law, Gene Johnson of Nashville, and many nephews and nieces. Funeral service 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel, Rev. Shirley Delap officiating. Interment icon in Highland Memorial cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30-2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel, 6200 Kingston Pike.

LEWIS, MILDRED K. - age 85, of Knoxville, passed away Sunday evening, October 22, 2000, at Parkwest Hospital. Born April 30, 1915, in Knoxville, Tenn. to Harrison B. and Pearl Atchley, who preceded her in death. Mrs. Lewis was also preceded in death by her husband, Willis B. Lewis; sisters, Waneta Bailey, Kathleen Atkins and Helen I. Butler. She was a member of West End Church of Christ. Mrs. Lewis owned and operated her own real estate business in the area for over 40 years. She is survived by her loving family, daughter and son-in-law, Marjorie and Jerry Gainer; grandson and wife Anthony and Debbie Gainer; brother, Burnis Atchley; step son and wife, Allen and Libby Lewis; step daughter-in-law, Hanna Lewis; niece, Michelle Evans and son Michael Evans; step granddaughter, Sabrina Doudy and husband Stephen; step grandsons, Allen Lewis Jr., Mike and Bobby Lewis; several nieces and nephews and special caregivers. A special thanks to Dr. Robert Montgomery, Dr. William Bedwell and Dr. John Hill, all of Parkwest. Mrs. Lewis is at Highland Memorial Funeral Home, 5315 Kingston Pike, where the family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral service will be conducted at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with David Skidmore of West End Church of Christ officiating.
