Roach, Mascot, Tn.; grandson and wife, Steven and Dana Emory; grandson, Kevin Emory all of Knoxville; grandson and wife, Bob and Karen Roach, Lenoir City, Tenn.; great granddaughter, Erin Emory, Knoxville; sister, Robbie Huff, Knoxville; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral service 8 p.m. Wednesday at Roseberry cemetery at 10:45 a.m. Thursday for an 11 a.m. graveside service and interment. Member of Edgewood Primitive Baptist Church; retired from Levi Strauss Co. after 25 years of service; preceded in death by parents, Edgar & Bertha Hicks; sister, Vina Adkins; brother, J.D. Hicks. Survivors: husband, Ralph L. Belcher; sisters, Ollie McLemore & Mayme Sue Hyatt, both of Maryville; sister & brother in law, Geraldine & Glenn T. BELL, JACK DANA - age 49 of Maryville died at 11:10 AM Monday, October 30, 2000 at his home. He was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Maryville. He was also a member of the Military Order of the Carabao; Founder of District of Columbia Bear Club in Washington D.C. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps where he served 2 years in Vietnam and received 2 Purple Hearts. He also served 6 months on Air Force One under President Richard Nixon and was a Police Sergeant in Okinawa, Japan 4 years. BENNETT, HARRY C. - age 65, of Knoxville, passed away Tuesday, October 31, 2000 at NHC in Knoxville. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Ellijay, Ga. Preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Gladys Bennett; wife, DeAlva and brother, William F. Bennett. Survivors include, sister and brother in law, Loral and William Vanderwesten; brother and sister in law, Grady L. and Bettye Bennett; sister in law, Margaret Bennett; nephews, Steve, Mark and Jim Bennett; niece, Pam Baxter. A special thanks to the family and friends at Ft. Sanders NHC Highland. Visitation for Mr. Bennett will be held Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000 from 6-8 p.m. at McCarty Mortuary. The family will meet Thursday morning at 9:45 a.m. at Asbury cemetery for a 10 a.m. graveside service with Rev. Lee Chorn officiating. BROWN, CHARLES (CHARLIE) - of Knoxville, departed this life, October 31, 2000 at UT Medical Center. Survivors; children, Betty B. Reed, Richard Brown, devoted friend and former wife, Lucille Bell; 22 grandchildren, to include Renita and Maurice Brown, nieces and nephews and other relatives and many friends. The family will assemble at the home 2544 E. 5th Apt. #1. CARDWELL, LOUISE "TINY" - age 71, of Knoxville, passed away Sunday, October 29, 2000, at St. Mary's Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bennett E. Cardwell. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Karen Murray; brothers, Tom Waddle of Knoxville and Bill Waddell of Dayton, Ohio; sister, Ida Mae Jeffries of Knoxville; several nieces and nephews including James and Clara Jeffries, Minnie and Gene Reynolds, Frank Charlotte Jeffries, Charles and Wanda Jeffries, Betty Taylor, Carolyn and Billy Lyons, Rick Jeffries, Sandy Waddell and Terry Waddell, and many friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Weaver Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Clarence Byrd officiating. Interment icon will follow at Highland Memorial cemetery. CARTER, MABLE E. - born Oct. 30, 1919, was called to be with her heavenly Father on Saturday, October 28, 2000, at home, after a lingering illness with lung cancer. She was the fifth child to be born to the late Cyrus and Birdie Stewart. Preceded in death by parents; two brothers, Theodore and Lavater Stewart and two sisters, Luetta Gross and Pauline Minor. She was a devoted and loyal member of Clinton Chapel AME Zion Church for over 60 years. She was a member of the Helen Spurgeon Circle. She leaves to cherish her memory two devoted daughters, Luretta (Larry) Johnson and Vicki (Wayne) McKinney; grandchildren, Charmaine, Larry Johnson and Shauna McKinney; great-grandchildren to include Larry Jr. and Victoria Johnson, Tyrell Blair, Alexondria and Keondra McKinney. Nieces to include Joyce Armstrong, Shirley Williams, and Betty Summerour; one nephew, Darrly Gross (Capitol Heights, Md.), a very devoted cousin, Henrietta Cooley and a host of grand nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and friends to include Vicki (Graves) Reed and Judy Parsons. The family will receive friends Wednesday, November 1, 2000, from 1-1:30 p.m. at Clinton Chapel AME Zion Church with funeral services to follow at 1:30 p.m. Presiding Elder, the Rev. DETWILER, LELA PROFFITT - age 86 of Sevierville, died Tuesday, October 31, 2000. She was born and raised in Greenbriar and was of the Baptist faith. EDINGTON, ELIZABETH F. "BETTY" - age 97, of Knoxville, widow of Clifford L. Edington, died Monday, October 30, 2000, at Shannondale Health Care Center. A long-time member of First Christian Church, she was Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity Housemother for over 25 years at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Joan Edington Wallace and Campbell Wallace Jr. of Knoxville; grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Campbell Edington Wallace, II and Leslie A. Wallace; great-grandsons, Campbell E. Wallace III, Austin Johnsen, and Niels Johnsen of New Orleans, La. Funeral service 4 p.m. Wednesday at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel with Rev. FITZPATRICK, LORETTA - age 79, of Knoxville died 6:50 p.m. Sunday, October 29, 2000 at UT Medical Center. Member of Arlington Baptist Church over 50 years and the Lydia Sunday school class. Retired from Oak Ridge National Laboratories. Survivors: niece and husband, Sandra and Ralph Long, Hobart, Indiana; great nieces and nephews, Shawn and Kristen Long, Patrick and Suzanne Long, Shannon Gibson; great-great nieces and nephews, Zachary Gibson, Jacob Gibson, Joshua Gibson, Jackson Long, Emily Long and Matthew Long; cousins, Maurice and Virginia Culberson, Sara and Andrew Harvey; special friends, Juanita Hutchins, Tittle Thomas and Elsie Henifan. GOLDEN, DORA DeMARCUS - 101 years young, of Andersonville, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, October 30, 2000 at Mariner Health Care Center in Norris. She had been a life long resident of the Hillvale Community. She was a charter member of Hillvale Baptist Church. Dora had worked for over 30 years at the former Magnet Mills in Clinton. Her favorite hobbies were gardening and flowers. Preceded in death by husband, Jacob Clarence Golden; son, Carl Golden; parents, Bill & Amy DeMarcus. Born February 15, 1899, in Anderson County. Survivors: son, Edsel Golden of Andersonville; daughters in law, Jewell Golden of Andersonville, Mary Golden of Clinton; grandchildren, Patricia Kris & husband, Andy of Andersonville, Mary Ruth Rhymer & husband, Rus of Halls, Edsel E. "Gene" Golden, Jr. & wife, Kathy of Clinton, Timothy Golden & wife, Pam of Andersonville; 9 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Orpha was a member of Farragut Presbyterian Church. Survivors: devoted husband, of 58 years, Bob Greenawalt; children and spouses, Cathy and Chuck Stichweh of Fayetteville, Ga., Suzie and Taylor Dulaney of Knoxville, Tenn., Barbara Hess of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Bob and Sue Greenawalt of Seattle, Wash.; grandchildren, Cheryl Stichweh Baker and husband, Daryl, Chuck Stichweh and wife, Lisa all of Ga., Jim Dulaney and wife, Lori of Knoxville, Tenn., Karen Dulaney Bunch and husband, Mike of Kingsport, Tenn., Jennifer Hess of SC; 7 great grandchildren, Joshua, Johnathan and Jarod Baker, Riley and Tyler Dulaney, Taylor Bunch and Lauren Stichweh; sister, Ruth Worley of Pa. and several nieces and nephews. Survived by Ruby Hatmaker, wife of 54 years; sons and daughters-in-law, Kyle and Cheryl and Jerry and Teresa; grandchildren, Toby Hatmaker and wife Kim, Michelle Humphries and husband Todd, Travis Hatmaker and Tim Hatmaker; great-grandchildren, Shawn and Nichole Hatmaker. She was a member of the Rogersville United Methodist Church and was retired from the Tenn. Valley Authority. She was preceded in death by her husband, T.J. Hawkins; parents, Frank and Minnie Pierce; brother, Carl Pierce; special nephew, Bill Hawkins; sister in law, Sally Hawkins Owens; and brother in law, Homer Beaver. She is survived by her son and daughter in law, Donnie and Judy Hawkins of the home; three granddaughters, Stacy Mayes of Bulls Gap, LeAnn Lawson of Morristown and Paige Hawkins of the home; two great grandsons, Tyler Mayes and Luke Mayes; one sister, Elsie Beaver of Chattanooga; step daughter, Phyllis Wilson of Rockwood; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends. HELTON, ELIGA ANDREW - age 81 of Maryville, passed away 12:15 PM Monday, October 30, 2000 at the Baptist Hospital of East Tennessee. He retired from Rhom & Haas with over 30 years of service. He was a veteran of World War II, where he served as a medic, and worked at CCC before the war. He was a member of Prospect Baptist Church. He was Prospect Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle H. Helton; son David Helton; parents William & Hattie Helton, brothers, Wilburn & Mack Helton; sister Zora Montgomery. He was a retired store manager for Firestone Store in Bearden and a WW II Veteran. Preceded in death by parents, Henry E. and Elizabeth Herbert; brother, John H. Herbert; sister, Mary J. Herbert; grandchildren, Michele Pearce and Ricky Herbert. Survived by wife, Frances R. Herbert of Knoxville; daughters and son-in-law, Judy and David Knight of Asheville, N.C. and Betsy Johnson of Knoxville; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Pam Herbert of Lawrenceville, Ga.; grandchildren, Brooke Flaherty, Nicol Barker and Alix Herbert.
