KIRBY, NAOMI E. - age 90, of Knoxville, died Thursday, January 18, 2001 at Fort Sanders Parkwest Hospital. She was a member of the former Virginia Ave. United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy S. Kirby and son, Max Kirby. She is survived by daughter and son in law, Shirley and Jimmy Hensley; son and daughter in law, Otis and Kathryn Kirby all of Knoxville; 8 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren; sister, Leona Wise of Knoxville and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel with Rev. A.J. Crawford officiating. Family and friends will meet Monday at Highland Memorial cemetery for an 11 a.m. graveside service and interment. Family will receive friends 6-7 p.m. Sunday at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel.

KIRK, HAZEL MEDLIN - age 84, of West Knoxville, died Friday, January 19, 2001, at Baptist Hospital. She was a member of Rocky Hill Baptist Church. Preceded in death in 1992 by husband, Paul C. Kirk; sisters, Lucille Smith, Betty Kincer; brothers, Mack and Floyd Medlin; niece, Teresa Kincer. Survivors: brother, Robert Medlin; sisters and brothers-in-law, Blanche Webber, Amanda Rose, Martha and Wayne Skeen, all of Knoxville, and Barbara and Herman Lorenz of Atlanta, Ga.; stepsons and daughters-in-law, David and Louise Kirk and Donald and Alice Kirk; brother-in-law, M. G. Kincer; nieces, Sharon Webber and Deborah Skeen, all of Knoxville, Julie Medlin, Robin Blevins, and Shelia Bivens, all of Collegedale; nephews, Gary Webber of Nashville, Michael Skeen, Michael Kincer, and Randy Kincer, all of Knoxville and Robert Medlin of New Mexico. Funeral service 7 p.m. Monday, Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel with Dr. Terry Kirby officiating. Family and friends will meet at Highland Memorial cemetery at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday for an 11 a.m. Entombment Service. The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. Monday at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel.

LANCASTER, RUTH KEENE - age 85, of Maryville, died at 9 a.m. Friday, January 19, 2001, at the family home. She was a member of Broadway Baptist Church. She retired from the Knox County School System and was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and the National Education Association. Preceded in death by parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford A. Keene; sister, Elizabeth Keene Beck. Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and John C. Teffteller of Maryville, and Kathryn and William R. Thomas of Bowling Green, Ky.; 9 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday, January 22, 2001, at Smith Mortuary with Dr. Robert Brown officiating. Entombment will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 23, 2001, at Sherwood Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations may be made to Broadway Baptist Church, 2329 E. Broadway Ave. Maryville, TN. 37804. LONG, JOHN B., SR. - age 74, of Corryton, went to be with the Lord Friday, January 19, 2001. He was a member of West Emory Baptist Church and was preceded in death by wife, Artie Mae Long; daughter, Faye Stoutt and grandson, Michael Robinson. He is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Cecil Berry, Sue and Chuck Ross, Jean and George Robinson, and Sheila and Mike McGinnis; sons and daughters-in-law, John B., Jr. and Betty Long, and Alan and Elaine Long; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters and two brothers, and a host of nieces and nephews. Mr. Long is at Highland South Funeral Home on Chapman Hwy., where the family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Sunday with the Funeral Service to follow at 8 p.m. with Rev. Arnold Whitehead officiating. Family and friends will meet at Highland South Funeral Home at 10:45 a.m. Monday and proceed to Highland South cemetery for an 11 a.m. Graveside Service. PACE, BETTY SUE - age 65, of Knoxville, passed away January 19, 2001 at Ft. Sanders Regional Medical Center. Member of Kim Watt Baptist Church. REYNOLDS, VIRGIL H., JR. - age 76 of Lenoir City, Tenn., formerly of Sheffield, Ala., passed away Friday evening January 19, 2001 at Park West Hospital. Virgil was a member of the Lenoir City Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He was retired from the Tenn. Valley Authority as a power plant manager. Virgil was a graduate of Auburn University. He was a veteran of World War II serving with the Army Air Corp. Survivors: wife of 50 years, Glenn Austin Reynolds; daughter and son in law, Ann and Paul Thompson of Blairsville, Ga.; son and daughter in law, William and Lynn Reynolds of Austell, Ga.; grandchildren, Elizabeth and Daniel Reynolds, Dennis Thompson; brother and sister in law, Winston and Juanell Reynolds of Florence, Ala.; sisters in law, Elizabeth Thompson and husband, Frank of Oklahoma City, Okla. and Frances Whitehead of Tuscumbia, Ala. The family will receive friends from 2-2:45 p.m. Sunday and proceed to Loudon County Memorial Gardens for graveside services at 3 p.m. with Rev. Ken Phillips officiating. ROCHELLE, ROY, JR. - age 83, of Knoxville, died Friday, January 19, 2001. He was a member and deacon of Second Presbyterian Church. He was owner of Rochelle's Antiques and was retired from Alcoa after 36 years of service. Preceded in death by his parents, Roy, Sr., and Mary White Rochelle. Survivors include wife, Elizabeth Luttrell Rochelle; sons and daughter in law, Rob Rochelle and Barry and Karen Rochelle; grandchildren, Daniel, Matthew and Morgan Rochelle; brother and sister in law, Robert W. and Peggy Rochelle; nieces, Mardee, Ann Darby and Ellen Rochelle; nephew, Russell Rochelle. Family and friends will meet Monday at Highland cemetery for an 11:30 a.m. graveside service followed by a memorial service at 1:30 p.m. at Second Presbyterian Church with Dr. Arnold B. SHOFFNER, HUDA DEMENT - age 93, of Knoxville, died Friday, January 19, 2001, at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center. She was the daughter of the late Albert M. and Mina Preston Dement. She was preceded in death by her husband, George R. Shoffner, who was President of Gray Knox Marble Co. She was raised in Normandy and Wartrace in Middle Tennessee, and her father was one of the developers of the Tennessee Walking Horse. As a child, she rode and showed Tennessee Walking Horses and won many Blue Ribbons. She graduated from Agnes Scott College and received her Master's Degree in Library Science from Emory University. She and her husband were among the founding members of Sequoyah Hills Presbyterian Church. She held memberships in Sequoyah Garden Club and Cherokee Country Club for many years. She volunteered as a Pink Lady at Fort Sanders Hospital. Survivors include son, James P. Shoffner and wife, Janis and their children, James Jr., John, Jan Shoffner Johnston and Jill Shoffner Egan; daughter, Mary Mina Morgan and husband, Allen and their children, Preston, Ashley Morgan Crabtree and Grayson Morgan Kanter; son, George R. Shoffner, Jr. and wife, Liz and their children, Mark, Laura and David; 14 great-grandchildren; caregiver and friend, Patricia A. Coley. A service to celebrate her life will be held on Tuesday, January 23, at 2:30 p.m. at Sequoyah Hills Presbyterian Church with Dr. William R. Barron and Dr. Dent Davis officiating. Committal service will be private. Memorials may be made to Sequoyah Hills Presbyterian Church, 3700 Keowee Ave., Knoxville, TN 37919. The family will receive friends at the church after the service. SIMS, DARLEEN THOMPSON - of Maryville, formerly of Monroe County, (Ballplay Community), passed away 7:45 p.m. Friday, January 19, 2001, at Blount Memorial Hospital. Member of Ebenezer (Ballplay) Baptist Church. Preceded in death by father, Gillis Thompson and niece, Annie M. Perry. Survivors: husband, Cleve Sims; daughter, LeAnna Sims; son, Terry Sims, all of Maryville; mother, Annie R. Thompson of Tellico Plains; sister, Devean Crofts of Maryville; brother and sister-in-law, David and Elizabeth Thompson of Madisonville; several nieces and nephews, Michael and Penny Thompson of Lenoir City, Kenny, Angelina and Briana Thompson, all of Madisonville, and Crystal Perry of Maryville; several aunts and uncles. Funeral service 8 p.m. Sunday, Biereley-Hale Chapel, Rev. Jerry Scott officiating. Interment icon 11 a.m. Monday, Ebenezer (Ballplay) cemetery. SMITH, MARGARET BEAN - age 81, of Knoxville, passed away Saturday, January 20, 2001, at Ft. Sanders Parkwest Hospital. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Preceded in death by parents, Harry and Bessie Bean; son, James Dennis Smith. Survived by husband of 52 years, J. W. "Jay" Smith; sister and brother-in-law, Ella Mae and J.B. Wright; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday at Weaver's Chapel, with the service to follow at 8 p.m. Reverends Carl Oaks and Angela Hardy officiating. Family and friends will meet at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday at Highland Memorial cemetery for a 12 Noon graveside service. STOUT, JESSIE KYKER - age 95 of Strawberry Plains passed away on Wednesday, January 17, 2001at Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia, SC. She was born on October 27, 1905 and is the daughter of the late John Kyker and Martha (Smith) Kyker. Also preceded in death by her husband, Will Ed Stout; son, Herbert Allen; three daughters, Judy, Wilma, and Martha. Jessie was a member of the Thorngrove Christian Church. Survivors; sons and daughters in law, Jimmy Stout and his wife, Donna from Knoxville, Ken Stout and his wife, Mary, and John Stout and his wife, Martha all from Strawberry Plains, Joseph Stout and his wife, Barbara from Columbia, SC; daughter in law, Mable Stout; and son in law, Paul Lindsey; 14 grandchildren; and 27 great grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren and many friends of the family. Funeral services will be on Saturday night at the McCarty's at 8 p.m. Rev. Eric Rieger will be officiating. Burial will be on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Roseberry cemetery. TAYLOR, MILDRED SHARPE - age 83, of Knoxville, died Thursday, January 18, 2001, at her home. A member and pianist at John Sevier Church of God, she was retired from Levi Strauss & Company and had worked part-time at Food City on Asheville Hwy. She was preceded in death by husbands, Eddie Sharpe and William Taylor; parents, Minnie and Marshall Styles; brother, Clifford Styles. Surviving: sons and daughters in law, Chester and Claudia Sharp, Eustace (Peaches) and Willie Sharpe, Clarence (Byrd) and Joyce Sharpe, all of Knoxville; daughter, Norma Jean Burnett of Knoxville; daughters and sons in law, Eddie-Faye and Hall Medlin of Knoxville, Melody and Robert (Butch) Branch of Seymour; 15 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel with the Rev. Tony Lee Richie officiating. TEFFETELLER, MILDRED LOUISE - age 58, of Maryville, died at 8:59 p.m. Friday, January 19, 2001, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. She was a member of Mt. View Baptist Church, retired from the State of Tennessee with 25 years of service, and retired from Lake Shore. Preceded in death by husband, Billy R. Teffeteller; father, Harold Keasler. Survivors include son, Jeffrey Alan and Rhea Gregg of Maryville; mother, Myrtle Keasler of Maryville; brothers, Ronald Wayne Keasler of Alcoa and Robert Keasler of Maryville; sisters, Carolyn Russell of Maryville, Sandra Marcum of Louisville, and Leta Bryant of Nashville; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday, January 22, 2001, at Smith Mortuary with Rev. Harrison Hill and Rev. Doug Teffeteller officiating. Family and friends will assemble at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 23, 2001, at Grandview cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-7:30 p.m. Monday, Smith Mortuary, Maryville, 983-1000.

WANKOWSKI, HELEN J. BUHL - This is a memorial in honor of our sister. Helen passed away December 30, 2000, at her home in Kentucky. She joined in heaven, her parents, E.A. and Daisy Gibson Buhl; her loving husband, Rev. Tony Wankowski; 3 sisters, Mamye York, Rene Webber, and Yvonne Buhl; and her grandson, Jeremy Wankowski. She is survived by: 3 sons and one daughter; 8 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; a sister and brother in law, Rev. Albert A. and Betty Buhl Walters of Powell; a brother and sister in law, Dr. Anthony R. (Tony) and Susan Buhl of Boulder, Colorado; a host of nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. WOLFENBARGER, RUTH V. - age 88 of Knoxville, passed away Friday morning at St. Mary's Medical Center. Member of Central Baptist Church Fountain City. Retired from Levis after many years service. Preceded in death by her son, Price Wolfenbarger. Survived by daughter, Mary Sue Carter; sons and daughters in law, Bob and Judy Wolfenbarger, Chester and Pam Wolfenbarger all of Knoxville; nine grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; sisters, Emma Pittman, Knoxville, Alma Clowers, Kodak; several nieces and nephews. Friends will meet at Greenwood cemetery 1:45 p.m. Monday for a 2 p.m. graveside service Rev. Ron Mouser and Rev. Allen Smith officiating. Grandsons will be pallbearers. Family will receive friends 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Gentry-Griffey Chapel.

YOUNG, DONALD CURTIS - age 63 of Bean Station passed away Friday January 19, 2001 at his residence after a short battle with cancer. Mr. Young was a member and deacon of Southside Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by parents, Pryor and Annie Young; sister, Ruby; brothers, H.C., Ernie and Nelson. Survived by wife, Ethel; daughter and son in law, Donna and Craig Evans of Blaine, Tenn.; brothers, Carroll of Rutledge, J.E. of Bremen, Ind.; sisters in law, Marie and Neita; aunts, Mattie Young, Hester Norton and Rose Cabbage.; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. Funeral services will be Sunday January 21, 2001, 8 p.m. in the Smith Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Hollis Dunsmore and Rev. Jack Hipsher officiating. Graveside services will be Monday, 11 a.m. in the Grainger Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Sunday evening 6-8 p.m. prior to the service. ZIMMERMAN, YASUKO ARAKANE - of 147 Cedar Crest Circle Rogersville, Tenn. died Thursday, January 18, 2001 at Summit Medical Center, Nashville, Tenn. after a brief illness. She was a member of Rogersville United Methodist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Karl Erich Zimmerman. Survivors include, one daughter, Tsuya Beckman and husband, Jerry of Mt. Juliet and one son, Erich C. Zimmerman of Nashville; two grandchildren, Andrew Beckman and Thomas Beckman both of Mt. Juliet; sister in law, Margaret Stubbs and husband, Charles of Charlotte, NC Calling hours will be 6-8 p.m. Monday, January 22, 2001 at Rogersville United Methodist Church. Funeral service will be conducted at 8 p.m. Monday, January 22, 2001 at Rogersville United Methodist Church with Rev. Charles Harrison and Rev. Lawrence Clark officiating. Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday January 23, 2001 at Wood Haven Memorial Gardens, Powell, Tenn. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Stubbs, Everett Stubbs, Christopher Stubbs, Eddie Abernathy, Gerome Harville and Wayne Collins. Broome Funeral Home, Rogersville is in charge of arrangements.
