BRADY, JACKSON LAVADA - age 71, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 31, 2001, in Ohio. Formerly of Knoxville, a member of Dante Baptist Church, and he proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy in Korea. After a long and successful career in the telecommunications industry, he retired in 1992. Preceded in death by wife, Edith (Dee Dee) Brady and infant son, Jack Marshall Brady; parents, Ramath and Grace Brady; brother, Ramath Jr., William B. and James A. Brady; sister, Dorotha Runyon. Survived by daughter, Beverly Brown of Bryan, Ohio; son, Steven Brady of Los Vegas, Nevada; grandsons, Greg, Christopher and Toby Brown and great-granddaughter, Kalyn Brown, all of Ohio; sister, Belva Fowler of Powell; several nieces and nephews in Tennessee also mourn his passing. Funeral service 8 p.m. Thursday, Dante Baptist Church, Rev. Phillip Murphy officiating. Family and friends will meet at 12 Noon Friday at East Tennessee State Veterans cemetery for services at 12 Noon. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Dante Baptist Church. BURRIS, MR. DAVID EDWARD - age 56, of Knoxville, passed away Monday at U.T. Hospital, Knoxville. He was a Statistician with Warner Lambert for 21 years, member of the Knoxville Chess Club, U.S. Chess Foundation, currently U.S. Absolute Chess Champion, member of Knoxville Philatelic Society, Mensa, a National Merit Scholar. Preceded in death by father, David Paul Burris and is survived by wife, Elizabeth Burris of Knoxville; son, Benjamin David Burris; step sons, Gerald Nese and Paul Nese, both of New Jersey; mother, Lucille Burris of Knoxville; sister, Dr. Sheila Marino and husband Lewis of Greenwood, South Carolina; great niece and nephew, Sydney and Vincent Paul. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Evans Mortuary with Rev. Charles Kelley officiating. Interment icon will follow in the Pine Orchard cemetery. CARMICHAEL, NELL CECIL - age 69, of Clinton, passed away Tuesday, January 30, 2001 at her residence. She was a retired secretary with National Laboratory at the X-10 plant in Oak Ridge with approximately twenty years of service. She was a member of New Salem Baptist Church. Preceded in death by parents, James & Nannie Witten McGuire. Born January 12, 1932 in Saltville, Va. Survivors: husband, Cecil Carmichael of Clinton; son, Cecil A. Carmichael, Jr. & wife, Jennifer of Clinton; grandchildren, Joshua, Jesse, Nathan, Miriam & Caleb; sisters, Ethel & Senia of Calif. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Friday February 2nd at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with funeral service following at 8 p.m. in the chapel with Rev. Chris Albright officiating. CARSON, MR. CHARLES - age 74, of Wartburg, beloved husband and father, passed away suddenly on Monday, January 29, 2001, at Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge. He was a World War II Veteran, a 1953 Carson Newman graduate and a member of First Baptist Church in Wartburg. He was retired from The Development Division at Y-12 in Oak Ridge where he worked for 37 years. He enjoyed story-telling, gardening and cooking, but he was also a lover of people. He was recognized by Sure-Jell in 1988 in their first selection of All American Hall Of Fame Jam and Jelly Makers. He was preceded in death by his father, James Alex Carson and two sisters, Sue McManimon and June Meredith. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Jean Knisley Carson; daughters, Jane Carson Miller of Wartburg and Mary Lynn Carson of Knoxville; sons, Charles Edward and wife, Cheryl of Harrison, Arkansas, James David and wife, Joanie, of Yuma, Arizona and George William and Shirley of Wartburg; daughter-in-law, Michelle and family of Chandler, Arizona; beloved sister, Faye Haag of Cincinnati, Ohio; mother, Beulah Human Carson of Wartburg; granddaughters, Mary Ellen Coker of Lancing, Tenn., and Dora and Daisy Carson of Melbourne, Florida; grandsons, Larry Jack Miller of Ripley, Tenn., Charles Gene Carson of Chicago, Illinois and Brian Carson and wife, Melissa of Greer, SC; great-grandsons, Jonathan Lee Coker of Coalfield and Joseph Lee Carson of Greer, SC; niece, Linda Human Thompson, and numerous other relatives and friends. CARTER, JOSEPH M. - age 78 of Knoxville, died 4:30 a.m. Wednesday January 31, 2001 at the family home. He was of the Presbyterian faith and an Army veteran of World War II. Preceded in death by parents, Joseph MacDonald and Grace Carter. Survivors: wife of 40 years, Janetta Carter; son and daughter in law, Joseph and Carolyn Carter; son, Robert Carter all of Knoxville. CAYLOR, RICHARD EARL (DICKY) - age 58, of Maryville, passed away Tuesday, January 30, 2001, at the family home. He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force. He was employed as a Federal Aviation Air Traffic Controller and was the previous owner of Four-Corners Market, Rockford. Preceded in death by parents, Earl W. and Mildred Caylor. COX, ANNA L. - of Knoxville, Tenn. passed away on Monday, January 29, 2001 at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. She was a member of Jehovah's Witness Southeast Congregation. Preceded in death by husband, William Cox; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Morris. Survivors: devoted cousin, Mrs. Tennessee Anderson, Ms. Patty T. DUNCAN, MARY MAUDE RUSSELL - age 89 of Clinton passed away Tuesday, January 30, 2001, at her residence. She enjoyed cooking, baking & sewing for her family. She was of the Baptist faith. DYER, WILLIAM H. - age 74, of Kingston, Tenn., was born on March 10, 1926, and passed on to the wonderful hands of the Lord on Wednesday, January 31, 2001. Bill attended Liberty Baptist Church in Kingston. He was a Veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army and was a Purple Heart recipient. Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Katherine Bailey Dyer; parents, James Thomas Dyer and Pearl Palmer Dyer; brother, Charles (Chuck) Dyer; sisters, Ruth Dyer Gibboney, Ollie Mae Dyer and Catherine Louise Dyer. Survived by his daughters, Brenda Edmonds, Patricia White and Janet McKinney, all of Kingston, Marie McFalls of Loudon, and Betty Taylor of Ohio; son, Billy Dyer of Ohio; 17 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Thelma Petty and Frances Morgan, both of Lenoir City; brothers, James (Beachard) Dyer of Maryville and Paul Dyer of Lenoir City; several nieces and nephews. HALL, ROENA B. - age 94 of Lenoir City passed away Tuesday evening, January 30, 2001 at the Loudon Health Care Center. She was a devoted wife and mother. Roena was a member of Central United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Edward Hall; daughter, Bobbie Hughes; parents, John M. and Effa Lane Edmondson; sister, Inez Roach; and brother, Gordon Edmondson. Survived by her son, Joe Allen Hall of Lenoir City; grandchildren, David Rankin of Lenoir City, Jo Ann Jernigan of Atlanta and Jennifer Hughes of Lenoir City; great grandchildren, Randy Rankin, David Rankin, DeWayne Rankin, James Rankin and Jesse Jernigan; four great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. HANNAH, SAMANTHA "LYNN" - age 32, of Gray-Hendrix Road, passed away suddenly Monday, January 29, 2001. Born Nov. 27, 1968, to Deborah Ann Deaver and the late Cleveland Sam Robinson. She is survived by her mother, Deborah Ann Deaver and step father, John S. Deaver; beloved children, Stephanie Leigh Robinson and Nickolas Lee Hannah; grandmothers, Vivian H. Purvis and Vauytell Robinson; uncles, Larry C. Purvis and Michael H. Purvis; very special friend, Tom Hansen. Lynn is now rejoined with her faithful dog "Scoobie". HARDIN, MARY WILLIAMS - age 94, passed on to her next life from her home in Maryville, Tenn. on January 30, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Cecil P. Hardin, and brothers, Dr. Thomas L. Williams and Rev. Harry S. Williams. Survivors include daughter and son in law, Mary Elizabeth (Betty) and William R. King of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; son and daughter in law, Charles P. and Mary Alice Hardin of Cincinnati, Ohio; and daughter, Alice J. Hardin of Atlanta, Ga.; grandchildren, Lisa J. Hardin of Richmond, Va. And Michael T. Hardin and wife, Kelley of Jacksonville, Fla.; nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends. Mary was born in Chattanooga, Tenn. November 28, 1906, the daughter of the late Rev. Leonard J. and Jessie Leake Williams. She graduated from Emory and Henry College in 1929. She taught at Ooltewah High School prior to her marriage to Rev. Cecil P. Hardin on August 11, 1936. She and her husband served Methodist churches in Chattanooga (Brainerd and First Centenary); Knoxville(Church Street); Bristol (State Street); Oak Ridge (First); Cleveland (Broadstreet); Maryville(Broadway and Pleasant Hill); and Vonore (Walnut Grove). In addition to her outstanding contributions in the local churches she and Cecil served, Mary was an officer and leader in the Woman's Society of Christian Service at the conference and jurisdictional levels. The Holston Conference honored her by designating a love gift to furnish the Mary Hardin Assembly Room at the United Nations Church Center in New York. Mary served the National Methodist Church between 1952 and 1964 on all levels of service including vice president of the Woman's Division of the Methodist Board of Global Ministries. She served on several Boards of Trustees including St. Paul School of Theology, Kansas City, Mo., Scaritt College Nashville, Tenn., Alaska Methodist University, Anchorage, Alaska, Payne College, Augusta, Ga., Sue Bennette College, London, Ky., Wood Junior College, Miss. National College, Kansas City, Mo., Sibley Hospital, Washington, DC. As a vice president she represented the Women's Division at many church conferences and events in the United States as well as abroad, including Jurisdictional and General Conferences and the Deaconess Association meeting in Berlin, Germany in 1964. She was a consultant for mission work in Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic. She was also a member of the Alaska Committee of the National Council of churches that went to Alaska immediately after the 1964 earthquake to evaluate damages and designate emergency funds. Mary was active in state and local Church Women United. She helped to coordinate women's leadership courses in the (formerly) CME churches in Jackson, Tenn., Atlanta, Ga., and Tyler, TX. She volunteered in community activities all of her life through the YWCA, Newcomer, Council on Aging and other local boards. She helped set up a summer program in Cleveland, Tenn. in 1970 for handicapped children. She and her husband developed a program of Fellowship, Recreation, Inspriation and Service (FRINS) in several churches that they served. Well known for her friendliness and cheeriness, she made friends easily with her welcoming and caring manner. She would always be at the front door of the church on Sunday morning greeting people by name with a smile and a laugh. In more recent years, she continued her active involvement in the church as a member of Church Street United Methodist Church in Knoxville, and at Broadway United Methodist Church as a member and leader in the FRINS group. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in McCAmmon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. William J. Fowler and Rev. Cabel W. Trent officiating. The interment icon will follow in Sherwood Memorial Gardens, Alcoa, Tenn. The family will receive friends from 12:30-2 p.m. Saturday at McCAmmon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home in Maryville, Tenn. HEMBREE, MAYNARD - age 95, of Jacksboro, passed away Wednesday, January 31, 2001, at the LaFollette Nursing Home. He was a member of East Jacksboro Baptist Church, and also a member of Masonic Lodge #322 of Jacksboro and Scottish Rites of Knoxville. Preceded in death by wife, Claudia Adams Hembree; son, Hurshell Hembree; parents, Alec and Zadie Phillips Hembree; five brothers, and one sister. Survived by daughter and son-in-law, Gaynell and Howard Hensley of Dayton, Ohio; sons and daughters, Lenville and Nancy Hembree of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, Carl and Dorothy Hembree of Clinton, Tenn., and Lawrence and Pat Hembree of Jacksboro; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Vina Pebley of Caryville, Thelma Queener of Jacksboro; several nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends. Survivors: wife of 70 years, Nada Beeler Irick; a son and daughter-in-law, Elmer and Brenda Ammons; grandchildren, Jeff and Trina Ammons and Mrs. Gary Hipsky (Robin); great-grandchildren, Josh and Zach.
