SPARKS, JAMES E. "PREACHER" - age 71, of Maryville, passed away Tuesday, February 6, 2001 at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was of the Baptist faith; retired from the Tenn. Highway Dept. Preceded in death by wives, Jean & Ann; parents, and brother in law, Raymond R. Boring. Survivors: brothers & sisters in law, Troy & Helen Sparks, Townsend, Sam & Helen Sparks, Maryville; sisters brothers in law, Nola & Ralph Cannon, Joyce & Bob Miller, Martha Boring, all of Maryville, Trumonia & Dan Rayburn, Etowah; nieces, Sandra Webb, Debbie Swaney, Linda Davis, Tonya Russell, Brenda Webb, Becky Hovater, Glenda Allen, Janet Sneed & Dana Rayburn; nephews, Bobby Miller, Randy Cannon, Terry Boring, David Sparks, Tim Cannon, Scot Sparks, & Jeff Miller; step son, Tim Sparks. Funeral service 8 p.m. Wednesday, February 7, 2001, Miller Funeral Home, Magnolia Chapel. Family & friends will meet 2 p.m. Thursday at Shady Grove cemetery for the interment. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Miller Funeral Home, Maryville.

STRUNK, DONALD CARL - age 70, of Seymour, formerly of Scott Co., Tenn., departed this life to be with the Lord Tuesday, February 6, 2001. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Seymour since 1977, where he was a deacon and a Sunday School Teacher. He had many friends in the Seymour community and at the Dialysis Clinic in Knoxville. He was a Veteran and served his country in the European Theatre right at the end of World War II. Preceded in death by wife, Norma Jean Crabtree Strunk; parents, Nellie and Ansel Strunk; brothers, Larsel and Gerald; mother-in-law, Anna Crabtree; brother-in-law, Don Moody. Survivors: son, Joe Strunk and wife Shelia; daughter, Donna Jean Strunk; grandchildren, Travis and Seth Strunk, (who were the apple of his eye); brothers and sisters-in-law, Ray and Gerri Strunk, Edel and Phyllis Strunk, Terrance and Sue Strunk, Cokey and Joyce Strunk, Carthel and Mary Strunk, Dee and Jeanette Strunk, Andel and Liz Strunk, and George Strunk and wife; sisters and brother-in-law, Leila and Edwin Meece; sister, Juanna Moody; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Frankie and Arnold Roland, Jo and Nelson Fox, and Bobby and Patsy Crabtree; brother-in-law, Bud Crabtree; sisters-in-law, Ida Mae Goodboo and Sandy Strunk; special friend, Martha Powell and her family and Jess Alston; several nieces and nephews. TALLENT, JOSEPH WAYNE (JOE) - age 54 of Farragut passed away February 4, 2001 after a short illness. He was a home builder, carpenter and avid ham radio operator. He leaves to cherish his memory, wife, Sheila Dziubak Tallent; daughter, Amanda Jo Hall; step daughter, Michele Dziubak; sisters, Linda Gail Tallent of Knoxville, Nancy Carolyn Davis of Louisville; sisters and brothers in law, Janie and A.J. Daniels, Dorothy and Fred Lawhorn of Knoxville; brothers and sisters in law, David M. and Carolyn Tallent of Knoxville and Steven N. and Shirley Tallent of Maryville, Tenn., Raymond E. and Ethel Tallent of Macon, Ga. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Berrier of 29 years in December, 1996; parents, Claude R. Tallent, Jr., and Mary Eliza Tallent; brothers, Robert R., Claude R. Jr., and Charles M. Tallent. Nieces and nephews, Ray Tallent of Maryville, Donna Tallent Cochran of Kentucky, Raymond E. Tallent, Jr. of Ohio, Mike Davis of Louisville, Don Davis of Seymour, Carol Ann Earley of Maryville, Deborah Daniels, Angela Daniels, Jeffrey Lawhorn, Aaron Lawhorn, Scott Tallent, Whitney Tallent, Amanda Tallent all of Knoxville; several great nieces and nephews. Funeral service 11 a.m. Wednesday, Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel with Rev. Bill Kilday officiating. Interment icon Lynnhurst cemetery. TREECE, CALVIN ANTHONY "TONY" - age 40 of Knoxville, passed into a better place on February 5, 2001 at UT Hospital, after a lingering illness. Preceded in death by father, Herman Calvin Treece; grandparents, special aunts, Eula Slagle and Katherine Snapp. "Tony" is survived by his mother, Doris Treece; sister, Nancy Clonigener and brothers, Craig Alan and Mack Edward Treece; nieces, Crystal and Allyson; and nephew, Matthew; one great nephew, Michael Anthony (his name sake); and one great niece, Caroline; his very special friend and care taker, Mark Mincey; a host of cousins; his beloved cats and little dog who watched over him so closely. Funeral services will be held Wednesday February 7, 2001 at 8 p.m. at McCarty's Evergreen Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Perkins officiating. The Treece family will receive friends Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. McCarty's Evergreen Chapel in charge of arrangements.

WASHINGTON, LINDA JOYCE - of Knoxville, passed away on Monday, February 5, 2001 at Holston Health Care. Preceded in death by parents, Ruth Fulton and George Washington. She leaves to cherish her memories; aunt, Lucille Smith; uncles, Carl B. and Gene Donaldson; several cousins; devoted friends, Virginia Burton, Gertrude Cannida, Dianna McBee and family, Judy Martin, Kathy Lowery, and the Strawberry Plains community family. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 8, 2001 at 11 a.m. at True Vine Baptist Church. Rev. Cecil Clark, presiding. Arrangements by Unity Mortuary.

AMBURN, MARY ETHEL - age 87, of South Knoxville, passed away February 3, 2001, at U.T. Hospital. Survivors: son and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Carole Amburn; two grandsons; sisters, Florence Archer and Polly Dailey. Graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Highland South cemetery, Rev. Cory Golden officiating. Family will receive friends 11 a.m.-12 Noon Tuesday at Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Hwy.

CABLE, ROBERT EDWIN - age 71, of Knoxville, passed away on Friday, February 2, 2001, at Fort Sanders Parkwest Hospital. Mr. Cable was retired from Y-12 and K-25 and attended the Lord's Chapel. He is survived by his loving family, wife of 51 years, Verna Cable of Knoxville; sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Dee Cable of Knoxville, Steve and Linda Cable of Knoxville, Ken and Janene Cable of Denver, Colo.; daughter and son-in-law, Tricia and Mike Johnson of Knoxville; brothers, Joe Cable of Kingston and Tom Cable of Peru, Ind.; sister, Louise Miller of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren, Jason, Eric, Brent, Tina, Regina, Jessica, and Ryan; great-grandchildren, Mikel, Mali, Nicolas, Megan, Halley, and Brendan. Entombment will be at 10 a.m. Monday, February 5, at Highland Memorial Mausoleum, Rev. Shirley Delap officiating. CAMPBELL, MRS. LEONA CHESNEY - age 78, of Maynardville, passed away 5:30 a.m. Sunday, February 4, 2001, at her home. She was born April 17, 1922, in Union County, the daughter of the late Tom and Emily Chesney and was a member of Chestnut Grove Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by husband, George Campbell; five brothers and four sisters. Survivors: sons and daughters-in-law, Tommy and Mary Campbell, and Jimmy Campbell and Carole Turner; daughter and son-in-law, Faye and Doug Seal, all of Maynardville; grandchildren, Larry and Laura Campbell, Stanley Campbell, Jamie and Mandy Campbell, Carol and Tony Middleton, Gail Campbell and Robbie Corum, and Dwight Seal, all of Maynardville; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Nell Perry of Washburn, Stella Braden of Halls; brother, Fate Chesney of Maynardville; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services 2 p.m. Wednesday, Cooke Mortuary Chapel, Rev. Eddie Perry, Rev. Ronnie Wynn, and Rev. Ted Seal officiating with music by Hubbs Grove Quartet. Interment icon will follow at Boruff cemetery, Black Fox Road. Pallbearers will be grandsons. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Cooke Mortuary, Maynardville.

DIVINE, MILBURN "SIS" - was born January 6, 1909, at one of the officer's homes at the National Soldiers Home Mountain Branch. She was the daughter of Major Paul E. and Lulu Milburn Divine. Her father was treasurer at the National Soldiers Home and later an attorney in Johnson City. He served in the Spanish American War with the 6th Vol. Infantry and was at the Battle of Santiago Harbor and the charge up San Juan Hill with President Theodore Roosevelt. Her grandfather, Captain William E. F. Milburn, was the first quartermaster at the National Soldiers Home. Her mother was postmistress of the Johnson City Post Office, the first woman in Tennessee to be post mistress of a first class post office. Ms. Divine attended East Tennessee State Teachers College, John Marshall Night School and William and Mary Extension School, Richmond, Va. In the 1930's she worked as a commercial artist in New York City. She completed Air Way Traffic Control School and then served as a control tower operator in the WACS in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. After the war, she was an analyst for the Armed Forces Security Agency, Dept. of Defense in Washington. She later returned to Johnson City and became involved in historical and genealogical societies. She has been a member of the Auxiliary on the Monday Club, Johnson City Book Club, Cotillion Club, Franklin Club, Watauga Association of Genealogists, Jonesborough Genealogical Society, Washington County Historical Association, East Tennessee Historical Society, and the American Legion Post 24. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church for many years and was entered on the cradle roll shortly after her birth. She has been past president of the Washington County Chapter of the Association for the Preservation of Tennessee Antiquities and assisted in organizing tours of historic sites and old homes of Washington County in the early 1960's. Friends and acquaintances will long remember "Sis" for her engaging conversations and intriguing stores. She was preceded in death by town sisters, Josephine Brandt and Florence Miller. She is survived by three grand nieces, Kristin McKinney and Emily and Meredith Leahy of Knoxville. Special cousins, Martha Sudderth of Johnson City, Judy Lindsay of Birmingham, Ala., and Andrea Campbell of Greeneville and a special friend, Sarai Maddry. The family will receive friends from 1-2:30 p.m. with graveside service to be held at Oak Grove cemetery on Tuesday at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Richard D. Willis officiating. Military service will be provided by VFW Post 1990. Memorial contributions may be made to Rocky Mountain Historical Association, Washington County-Jonesborough, 200 Hyden Hill Road, Piney Flats, Tenn. Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home, Greeneville, in charge of arrangements.

DUGGER, MR. HUBERT G. - of Kingston, passed away Saturday, February 3, 2001, at Fort Sanders Regional Hospital, due to a brief illness. He will be sadly missed by all his family and friends. He moved to Roane County in the early 1950's and was a native of upper East Tennessee. He also spent several months a year in Sebring, Fla. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and had a love for airplanes and the family pets. A retiree from TVA Kingston Steam Plant, a U.S. Army Veteran and a member of the Asbestos Workers Union. He was a founding member of the Roane County Rescue Squad, where he served for 42 years. He was considered a devoted husband and loving father. Preceded in death by his parents, Boyd and June Morgan Dugger, and first wife, Rebecca Dugger. Survivors include wife, Lois W. Dugger; daughter, Terrilyn Dugger; daughter and son-in-law, Lola and James T. Kirkpatrick; step sons and family, Michael and Wendy Wooden, James Wooden, David and Susan Wooden, Jason and Heidi Wooden. Funeral service 8 p.m. Tuesday in Kyker Chapel with Dr. Roy Graves officiating, followed by a Masonic Memorial Service conducted by Union Lodge 38 F&AM. Burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Kingston Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Kyker Funeral Home, Kingston. Donations in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Roane County Rescue Squad.

DUNCAN, JEWEL - age 81, of Harriman, passed away Saturday, February 3, 2001, at Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge. She was a member of South Harriman Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by husband, R. C. Duncan; infant daughter, Beth, and brother, Paul Burris. Survivors: daughter, Sharon Fischbach of Knoxville; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Richard and Beverly Duncan of Charleston, S.C.; sisters, Mary Sneed of Harriman, Ruth Salmons of Oakdale, Rachel Land of Oakdale, Naomi Butler of Harriman, and Dorcas Mitchell of Harriman; brothers, James Burris of Lancaster, Ohio, and Rev. John Burris of Chillicothe, Ohio; grandsons, Rev. Phil Fischbach and wife Donna of Glade Spring, Va., John Fischbach and wife Sherry of Knoxville, Benjamin Duncan, Seth Duncan, and David Duncan, all of Charleston, S.C.; great-grandchildren, Hope Fischbach and Duncan Fischbach. Private memorial services. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Debt Retirement Fund of South Harriman Baptist Church, 626 Ruritian Rd., Harriman, TN 37748. DUNCAN, LORINE H. - age 83, of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., formerly of Knoxville, passed away Jan. 31, 2001. Member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Survivors: husband of 63 years, Charles Duncan; sons, Charles Randall Duncan of New Smyrna Beach, Fla. and Walter Hugh Duncan of Atlanta, Ga.; 4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; sister, Elwana Justice of Powell, Tenn. Funeral service 10 a.m. Tuesday, Mynatt's Chapel, Rev. David Lancaster officiating. Interment icon Greenwood cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Monday at Mynatt's.

GARRETT, PEGGY ANN - age 57, died Sunday, February 4, 2001, at St. Mary's Medical Center. She was a member of Glen Oaks Baptist Church. Preceded in death by parents, Mack and Pauline Garrett. Survivors: brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and Betty Garrett; sister and brother-in-law, Katherine and Wayne (poss) Key Frances and Harrison Summers; aunt, Blanche White; several nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Funeral service 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel, Rev. Charlie McGill, Rev. Steve Grindstaff and Rev. Bill Romines officiating. Family and friends will depart at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, from Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel to proceed to Holloway cemetery for a 1 p.m. interment icon service. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Monday and 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel.
