FLYNN, CLINE THEODORE "C.T." - age 73, of Knoxville, passed away Sunday morning, August 13, 2000, at Baptist Hospital. He was retired from Alcoa Aluminum Co. after 40 years of service at the north plant and was a WWII Veteran. GREGORY, JERRY LEE - of Lakeland, Fla., formerly of Maryville, passed away suddenly Friday August 11, 2000 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in Lakeland, Fla. He was preceded in death by his father, John Arley Gregory. He is survived by his wife, Linda; mother, Helen Gregory of Maryville; son and daughter in law, Lee and Kimberly Gregory and son, Jay Gregory all of Lakeland, Fla. HILLARD, CATHERINE LOUISE - age 76, of Newport, passed away Sunday, August 13, 2000 at her home. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Albert Hillard and sister-in-law, Jean Haynes. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of The West End Baptist Church. LEWIS, WILLIS BOYD "BILL" - age 89, of Knoxville, passed away Sunday, August 13, 2000 at Fort Sanders Parkwest Medical Center. He was a member of West End Church of Christ in Knoxville and was retired from Roddy (Coca-Cola) Manufacturing Company in April 1988 after 55 years of service. He was preceded in death by his father, Alfred Boyd Lewis; mother, Cordie Shraden Lewis; sons, Joel Daniel Lewis and Jimmy Lewis; granddaughter, Judy Lewis; great-granddaughter, Amanda Grace Lewis; brothers, Gus Lewis and Rex Lewis; sister, Princess Thomas. Survivors include his wife, Mildred Lewis; son and daughter-in-law, Allen and Libby Lewis; daughter-in-law, Hana Lewis; sister, Nannie French; step-daughter and husband, Marge and Jerry Gainer; granddaughter and husband, Sabrina and Stephen Doudy; grandsons, Mike, Bobby and Allen Lewis, Jr.; great-granddaughters, Natalie Barker, Virginia Lewis, Hana Shea Lewis and Bridgett Kidd; great-grandson, Chris Lewis; step-grandchildren, Marty and Kellie Calloway, Bill and Alexa Riley and Tony and Debbie Gainer; step-great-grandchildren, Bryan, Matthew and Anna Calloway, Quinn Riley; niece, Michelle Evans. McPEAKE, DR. CORRIE BLAIR - age 84, of 605 Mulberry Street, Loudon, passed away August 14, 2000 at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born in Loudon, Tennessee on December 18, 1915. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Thomas McPeake and her parents, Edgar Ebenezer Blair and Harriett Louise Jones Blair. She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Dr. Molly Jane Peeler and George H. Peeler of Knoxville, Sara Louise Gilkey and Dr. John M. Gilkey of Lynchburg, VA; sons and daughter-in-law, Dr. William T. McPeake, III and Mary Annie McEachern McPeake of Knoxville and Ebb Blair McPeake of Loudon; ten grandchildren, Dr. George Huffman Peeler, John Michael Peeler and Corrie Beth Peeler Metcalf of Memphis and Blair Peeler Short of Loudon, William Robert McPeake, Adrianne Sumner McPeake and Molly Blair McPeake of Knoxville, Melissa Blair Gilkey and Anna Margueritte Gilkey of Lynchburg, VA, Melanie Blair McPeake of Columbus, GA; eight great-grandchildren, Paul Michael, Huffman, Tommy and Georgia Peeler, Mary, Anna and Margie Peeler, all of Memphis and Molly Louise Short of Loudon; sisters, Jane Blair Roberson of Maryville and Polly Blair Bird of Elizabethtown, KY; sister-in-law, Ada McPeake Wright of Morris Chapel, TN; several nieces and nephews; dedicated housekeeper and husband, Virginia and Robert Thompson and many cherished friends. Dr. Corrie received her Undergraduate Degree at Agnes Scott College in Atlanta with a B.A. Degree from The University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 1936. She graduated medical school at The University of Tennessee, Memphis in 1941, where she was Class Secretary/Treasurer. She completed her internship at Women's Hospital of Philadelphia in 1942. She and Dr. William Thomas McPeake were married in Philadelphia shortly before he entered service in The Army for World War II. She returned home to Loudon to live with her parents until he came home from The European Front in 1946. The couple set up a family practice in Loudon and served the community and surrounding area as General Practitioners for over 50 years. She was a member of The Knoxville Academy of Medicine, The Tennessee Medical Association and The American Medical Association. She was the first female Chief of Staff of the old Charles H. Bacon Hospital and served on the medical staff of Fort Sanders Loudon Hospital. She was a life-long Christian and an active member of Loudon United Methodist Church, where she served in numerous capacities over the years from children's Sunday school teacher to a member of The Board of Trustees. She was a caring and devoted mother serving both in Girl Scouts of America and as a Loudon PTA President. Recently she had been honored with recognition as First Lady of Loudon County (1997). She was also honored by Fort Sanders Loudon Hospital and The Knoxville Academy of Medicine for her fifty-four years of service and by her medical school and congressional leaders in 1995. People in Loudon called her "Dr. Corrie", and she had a personal relationship with literally thousands of them, which was probably her most cherished honor. She retired from active practice in 1999 after meticulously arranging for the follow-up care of her patients. In her spare time she actively pursued gardening, Bible study and family events. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Loudon United Methodist Church with Rev. Bruce Galyon and Rev. Robert Copeland officiating. Interment icon will be in Old Steekee cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at McGill-Karnes Funeral Home, Loudon. The body will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to service time. MOYERS, VERA M. - age 80, of Knoxville, died 8:15 p.m. Saturday, August 12, 2000, at St. Mary's Medical Center. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Powell. For over 45 years she had played the organ at different churches in the Knoxville area. Survivors: husband of 58 years, George D. Moyers, Knoxville; brother, J. R. Monday, Cincinnati, Ohio; several nieces and nephews. Funeral service 7 p.m. Tuesday, First Baptist Church, Powell, Rev. Phil Jones and Rev. Jerry Tallent officiating. PERRY, GENEVA LORIDA VAUGHT - of Corryton, died suddenly August 11, 2000. She was a gospel singer who performed regularly at the Museum of Appalachia, Judy's Barn, and at area nursing homes. Survivors: husband, Robert L. ROGERS, MRS. HELEN LORENE - age 80, of Talbott, passed away suddenly Sunday afternoon, August 13, 2000, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. She was a faithful member of the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her brother, Boyd White, Jr. and her parents, Boyd White, Sr. and Minnie Purkey White. Surviving is her loving husband of 61 years, Paul Rogers of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Carroll and Ikey Rogers of Talbott and Johnny and Martha Rogers of Morristown; grandchildren, Angie Wells, Timothy Rogers, Michael Rogers, Chris Rogers, Missy Rogers, and Jody Rogers; great-grandchildren, Nikki Wells, Sydney Wells, Timmy Rogers, Jeremy Rogers, Alexander Rogers, and Ashleigh Rogers, and one nephew, Bill White of Morristown. Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday evening, August 15, 2000, from the Farrar Funeral Home Chapel in Jefferson City with Reverend Bob Griffin and Reverend George Miller officiating. He was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church and a Veteran of World War II. Survivors: spouse, Cora Lee Harris Rogers of Tellico; sons and daughter-in-law, Roy F. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jess G. and Blanch (Troutman) Smith; one brother Roy M. Smith and an infant sister. Survived by wife, Barbara Muncey Smith; daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Dwayne Calfee of Morristown; son and daughter-in-law, Phillip and Cathy Carr of Oak Ridge; son, Steve F. WITT, ROWENA NICHOLS - age 68, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, went home to her Heavenly Father on Sunday, August 13, 2000. She is survived by her husband of 48 ½ years, Henry G. Witt; sons and daughters-in-law, James L. and Janet O. Witt, Gerald A. and Gayle B. Witt. Rowena also leaves two very special grandchildren that she loved and cared for, Julie Danielle Witt and Aaron Tyler Witt, all of Knoxville; brother and sister-in-law, Harold L. and Ann C. Nichols; special nieces and nephews, Amy N. Eanes, Lisa N. Sawyer, Russell L. Nichols and Joey O. Nichols, all of Morristown, TN, Joseph R. Nichols of Myrtle Beach, SC, Robin Nichols of North Carolina and Linda Blankenship of Knoxville; very special aunts, Cora Lynn Lusk of Jacksonville, Fla., Virgie Bounds of Knoxville and Zella Nichols; uncle, Jack Pratt, of Knoxville; special cousin, Edward Nichols. Preceded in death by parents, Joe and Dossie Nichols; brothers, Marvin and Jim Nichols. After graduating Carter High School where she lettered in basketball, Rowena completed Nursing School earning a Registered Nurse Degree from General Hospital. She later worked for Doctors Swann, Peagler and Toyohara for most of her nursing career. Rowena made friends very easily. She was also a caring and giving person. Aside from her grandchildren, Rowena enjoyed raising beef cattle on her farm. The Witt family would like to acknowledge a few of Rowena's closest and special friends ; cousins, Dixie Mays Cruze and Bill Branch and friends, Betty Jo Fishburn Phelps, Mary Cox, Dinardo Alta, Thomas Rule, Faye Lawson, Betty Hughes, Mary Eich, Lois Walker, Ruth Grubbs and Charles Carter. We also want to thank and recognize Dr. Victor Salter and Dr. James Gleaves, Dr. Carlos Velado and Dr. Clint Doiron for their genuine caring and professionalism while treating Rowena.
