MITCHELL, SHIRLEY ANN (ABNER) - age 61, of Knoxville, passed away Mon. night, Feb. 5, 2001, at Ft. Sanders Hospital, in the presence of her family. A member of Ruggles Ferry Baptist Church. Survived by son, Franklin Abner; daughters, Cheryl Robinson, Linda Haynes, & Charlotte Fenstermaker; seven grandchildren, & six great-grandchildren; brother, Clarence Conard; sisters, Barbara Ernest & Margaret Abbott, and many nieces & nephews. She was loved & will be missed by all. Funeral service 8 p.m. Fri., Mynatt's Chapel, Rev. Jerry Ellison & Rev. Darryl Covington officiating. Family and friends will meet at Mynatt's by 10:50 a.m. Sat. & proceed to Halls Memory Gardens for an 11 a.m. interment. PENDERGAST, MR. WILLIAM CURTIS, SR. (BILL) - age 83 of 890 Stiner Road, Sharps Chapel's Beech Grove Community, born Aug. 20, 1917 in Terra Haute, Ind. passed away 1:40 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001 at Claiborne County Hospital. Preceded in death by his parents; Curtis Mason and Lulu M. Pendergast. He first moved to Sharps Chapel in 1970 part time before retirement. He retired from Wright Patterson Air Force Base in 1974 and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific as a Sergeant and his duties included to help set up and repair radar stations on various pacific islands during the war. After the war, he worked for Carnegie Institute/Department of Terrestrial Magnetism, Dayton, Ohio as an electronic engineer. His hobbies include politics and world affairs, radio electronics, ham radio operator; K4KVC, surfing the internet, he enjoyed playing chess, the lake and fishing and loved his dogs and all wildlife. Survivors: wife of 34 years, Connie Pendergast, Sharps Chapel; children, William C. Pendergast, Jr. Las Vegas, Nev., Barbara L. Pendergast, Oceanside, Calif., David M. Pendergast, Philippines; grandchildren, Christine Pendergast, Dayton, Ohio, Kathy Pendergast, Kimberly Pendergast, both of the Philippines; daughters in law, Melody Pendergast, Las Vegas, Nev., Eden Pendergast, Philippines; step son, Clarence Lightle of Ind.; step daughter, Sandra Richardson of Dayton, Ohio; sisters, Margot Hill, Ormond Beach, Fla., Marilyn Isay, Opelika, Ala.; host of nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends. Funeral services 1 p.m. Sat., Cooke Mortuary Chapel, Rev. Frank Brooks officiating with music by Scott West. Interment icon will follow at Brogan Family cemetery, Sharps Chapel. POORE, MARY WOOD - age 87, of Roanoke, Va., formerly of Knoxville, passed away at 8:15 p.m. Tues., Feb. 6, 2001, at Friendship Healthcare in Roanoke. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Duncan, South Carolina, where she taught third grade Sunday School Class. A former member of Fifth Avenue Baptist Church, Knoxville. Preceded in death by husband, William Edgar Poore. Survived by daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Bill Dunaway of Cloverdale, VA; son and daughter-in-law, William F. (Bill) and Carolyn L. Poore of Knoxville; grandchildren, Tracy Russell, Terry Poore, and Stacy Schuler, all of Knoxville, Jennifer Dunaway, Brent Dunaway, and Tilley Roach, all of Duncan, South Carolina, and Nickolas Dunaway of Roanoke, Virginia; sister, Evelyn Wallace of Knoxville, and brother, Swan Wood of St. Louis, MO. Family and friends will meet at the entrance to Sherwood Memorial Gardens at 10:45 a.m. for an 11 a.m. mausoleum service and interment icon on Sat., Rev. Oliver Wolfenbarger officiating. RABY, LUCILE VANDLEE - age 90, of South Knoxville, passed away Wed., Feb. 7, 2001 at Hillcrest West. She was a member of Gospel Baptist Church. Preceded in death by husband, Harvey C. Raby. Survivors; daughter, Helen Pridemore; daughter & son in law, Barbara & Randall Ely; grandchildren, Shelia Edmonds, Mildred Wiggins, Harvey Harness; great grandchildren, Randall Harness, Rebecca Gosnell, Adam Edmonds, Brittany Edmonds; brother, Glen Conner, Several nieces & nephews. Funeral 8 p.m. Friday at Berry Chapel with Rev. I.A. Sparks officiating. RADER, CHARLES E., Attorney at Law - 87, passed away on Feb. 6, 2001, after a lengthy battle with Parkinson's Disease. He was a member of Church Street United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday School in the Achievement Class and served on many boards. He was a past president of the Sons of the Revolution and the Downtown Sertoma Club. He belonged to the TN Bar Association, and the TN Trial Lawyers Association. Also, he was a member of Cherokee County Club and a lifetime member of Club LeConte. He was a native Knoxvillian, who lived here all of his life. He attended Boyd's Jr. High School and graduated from Old Knoxville High School, where he played the saxophone in the school band. He then graduated from the University of TN in 1934 and went on to obtain his Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of TN Law School in 1936. He was a member of Delta Signa Phi Fraternity and a charter member of Omicron Delta Kappa Honorary Society. After graduating from law school, he began to practice law with the firm of Lee, Cox and Hier. He served in World War II in the Army Corps in the weather service division in Asheville, NC. After World War II, he served in the reserves as a Captain in the Judge Advocate General Corps. Mr. Rader returned to Knoxville and practiced law for more than sixty years before retiring. His most memorable case won women the right to teach school after marriage in Knox County, TN. Mr. Rader is predeceased by his parents: Charles Sanford Rader and Elizabeth Orr Rader, & his sister, Malry Lillian Adams. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Eleanor Wall Rader, his daughter, Candace E. Rader, who is also an attorney in Carrollton, GA, & daughters & sons-in-laws, Beth Rader and Don McKee of Winsotn-Salem, North Carolina, Anne Rader and Trent Primm of Knoxville, TN & Linda Rader & David Pierson of Charlotte, NC. He, also, is survived by six grandchildren, Brad & Mac McKee, Katie and Kristie Primm, and Gwen and Marian Pierson and a nephew, Charles Rader Adams of Duluth, Georgia. A celebration of Mr. Rader's life will be held on Sun., Feb. 11, 2001, at 2 p.m. at Church Street United Methodist Church with Rev. William J. Fowler and Rev. Cabel Trent officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. A private burial will take place Feb. 12, 2001. ROBINSON, LONNIE S., JR. - born 6-13-1921, in Defiance, Ky., passed away Wed., Feb. 7, 2001, at his home in Knoxville. He was of the Baptist faith. A member of DAV Chapter #24, served in the U.S. Army for 16 years, and was 100% service connected disabled, having served in World War II and Korea. He had served with the 34th Infantry, the 9th Armored Calvary Divisions, the 3rd Ranger Battalion, served with the Oak Ridge Police Dept. for a short time in 1945, worked as a speech therapist at the Alvin C. York Medical Center in Murfreesboro, TN., from 1965-1968. Preceded in death by dad, Lonnie S. Robinson, Sr.; mom, Elizabeth Robinson; step-mother, Jenny Robinson; brothers, Ivan and Lonnie Paul Robinson. Survivors: children and their spouses, Gary and Kathy Robinson, Sr. of Knoxville, Sharon and Vandalee of Dayton, Ohio, Barbara Bowman of Shelbyville, Tn., and Tommy and Lois Ballard of CA; grandchildren, Gary Wayne Robinson, Jr., Chris Matt and Linda Robinson, Allison and Evan Ballard; sister, Barbara Guinn of Knoxville; several nieces and nephews. SEXTON, EDITH CREECH - 79, Lynch Road Kingsport, went to be with the Lord Wed. Feb. 7, 2001 after a period of declining health. Born in Coeburn, Va. she was a daughter of the late John Farris and Georgia Kate Slaughter Creech. She had previously resided in Oak Ridge and Knoxville before making Kingsport her home. She was a homemaker and a member of Grace Baptist Church of Knoxville. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Creech; two brothers, William Worth Creech and Carl Creech. Surviving are her husband of 56 years, Vernoy R. Sexton; two sons, Jim Sexton, Kingsport, John Sexton and wife, Debbie, Knoxville; three grandchildren, Ronda Roller, Kingsport, Kirby and Kate Sexton, Knoxville; one great grandchild; one great-great grandchild; three sisters, Louise Counts, Salem, Va., Betty McBride, Bedford, Va., Mildred Pickel, Blountville; two brothers, Robert Creech, Herb Creech, both of Kingsport; special sister in law, Maxie Pippin, Kingsport; several nieces and nephews. Calling hours are 1-3 p.m. Sun. at East Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m. Sun. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Frank Crawford officiating. SEXTON, ELSIE RACHEL NEWPORT - age 87 of Oneida, Tenn. departed this life Thurs., Feb. 8 at the Scott County Hospital in Oneida, Tenn. Born in Scott County, Tenn. Dec. 16, 1913, she was the daughter of the late, Millard Filmore Newport and Rachel Chambers Newport. She was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Oneida and active in church programs throughout her life. She was a fifty year member and Past Worthy Matron of Sapphire Chapter #259 Order of the Eastern Star and a Past Mother Advisor of the International Order of Rainbow for girls. Elsie retired in 1979 from the office of Dr. Rhyne and Patton in Oneida. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elmor Sexton; four sisters, Erma Strunk Smithers of Sunbright, Tenn., Ernie Phillips of Winona, Tenn., Elva Newport Axley of Winona, Tenn. and Oma Athea Jeffers of Oneida; two brothers, Calvin Newport of Oneida and Howard Newport of McAllen, TX. She is survived by two daughters, Rachel Ann Terry and husband, William C. Terry of Titusville, Fla. and Laura June Terry and husband, James E. Terry of Oneida; grandchildren, James Patrick Terry and wife, Paula Terry of Lexington, Ky., William Brian Terry of Titusville, Fla., Dereck Christopher Terry of New Orleans, La., and Tonya Renee Terry Hager and husband, John Hager of Titusville, Fla.; great grandchildren, Holden Christopher Terry of Titusville, Fla., Emily Nicole Terry and James Parker Terry of Lexington, Ky. She also leaves several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Sat. Feb. 10 at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of Jones & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Dale Smith and Rev. SHOWN, FLOYD C. (BEN) - age 89, of Knoxville, died Wed., Feb. 7, 2001, at Palm Gardens of Largo in FL. Mr. Shown was a member of Beaver Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Powell, where he had been an Elder and Sunday School Teacher. He was the retired owner of Knoxville Orthopedic Appliance Company. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Alice T. Shown; daughter and son-in-law, Roberta and Laurence Tolle of Atlanta, Ind.; son and daughter-in-law, Ted and Sandra Shown of Knoxville; grandchildren, Ted Shown Jr., Tim Shown of Knoxville, Scott Tolle of Atlanta, Ind., Doug Tolle of Bremen, Ind., and Kristin Pietsch of Tampa, Fla.; nine great-grandchildren; half brother, Harold Shown of LaFollette, Tenn.; half sister, Helen Godfrey of Knoxville. Funeral service 7:30 p.m. Sun. at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel with Rev. Thomas Sweet and Rev. Fred West officiating. WILLIAMS, LOVIS RECTOR - age 79, of Washburn, born Mar. 17, 1921, died at his home, Tues. at 3:45 p.m. on Feb. 6, 2001. He was a member of Central View American Christian Church. He is preceded in death by parents, William Rector and Ora Bell Williams; wife Mildred Williams, and son, Leroy Williams. Mr. Williams is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Billy and Diane Williams, Frank Williams, Danny and Denise Williams all of Washburn, and David and Diane Williams of Jefferson City, daughters and sons-in-law, Rosella and Joe Nicely and Alice Williams, all of Washburn; brother, Coil "Polly" Williams of Washburn; 13 grandchildren, 3 that were special to him, Randy Nicely, Angela Brock and Rhonda Johnson; 18 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends at Petticoat Junction. BOLING, ALVIN C. - age 59 of Seymour, passed away Thursday February 8, 2001 at UT Medical Center. A member of Meridian Baptist Church, he was preceded in death b y his parents, John Henry and Ressie Mae Plemmons Boling and a brother, Dewey Paul Boling. He is survived by his loving family, wife, Sandra Boling of Seymour; son, James Boling, step sons, Rich Gibson, Patrick Dickson; step daughters, Cindy Byrd, Michele Crawford, Kimberly Gibson; brothers and sisters in law, Raymond W. and Avis Boling, John H. and Janice Boling, George G. and Patricia Boling, Wayne and Kathy Boling; sister and brother in law, Mary Kathryn and Gene Greer; sister in law, Barbara Bolling; 4 grandchildren; 4 step grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She has been a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for about 40 years. She was employed by Millers Department Stores. Preceded in death by her parents, John Grayson and Christina Amelia Yarnell; brothers, Harry, Rubert, Herbert, Henry, Freddie and Frank Yarnell; sisters, Irene Moyers and Mildred Yarnell and husband, Herbert Green and Lawrence Bundren.
