He was the retired owner of Knoxville Orthopedic Appliance Company. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Alice T. Shown; daughter and son-in-law, Roberta & Laurence Tolle of Atlanta, Ind.; son & daughter-in-law, Ted and Sandra Shown of Knoxville; grandchildren, Ted Shown Jr., Tim Shown of Knoxville, Scott Tolle of Atlanta, Ind., Doug Tolle of Bremen, Ind., & Kristin Pietsch of Tampa, Fla.; nine great-grandchildren; half brother, Harold Shown of LaFollette, Tenn.; half sister, Helen Godfrey of Knoxville. Funeral service 7:30 p.m. Sun. at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel with Rev. Thomas Sweet & Rev. Fred West officiating. Family & friends will meet at 10:45 a.m. Mon. at the main entrance of Highland Memorial cemetery for an 11 a.m. interment icon service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests, memorials be made to Beaver Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church Family Life Center, 7225 Old Clinton Pike, Powell, TN 37849. SMITH, HARRY P. - age 73, of LaFollette, passed away Fri. evening, Feb. 9, at St. Mary's Medical Center of Campbell Co. He was a member of LaFollette Baptist Temple. Survivors: wife, Geneva Smith, LaFollette; son, Harry P. Smith, Jr., Pontiac, Mich.; daughters & sons in law, Scherlyn & Allen VanHaitsma, Grand Rapids, Mich., Gwendolyn & Michael Skinner, Lansing, Mich.; 4 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; sister, Louvenia Shaw, LaFollette. STOOKSBURY, JAMES ISSAC - age 77 of Jacksboro, passed away Fri. Feb. 9, 2001 at the Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge. He was a member of the LaFollette Church of Christ. He had retired from the state of TN Highway Depart. after 35 years of service. Mr. Stooksbury was a loving husband, father, grandfather, & great grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family & friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Issac Stooksbury & Minnie Oakes; brothers, William & Richard Stooksbury. Mr. Stooksbury is survived by his wife, Cis Stooksbury of Jacksboro; sons, David McCulley, Jimmy & Johnny Stooksbury all of Jacksboro and Danny McCulley of LaFollette; daughters, Jane Vinsant, Vicki Shetterly, & Angie Allen all of Jacksboro & Judy Hatfield of Elyria, Ohio; sister, Effie Webster of Clinton; 21 grandchildren; & 23 great grandchildren; & a host of other relatives & friends. STRANGE, DORA ALICE THOMAS - born in Knighton, Wales & formerly of Knoxville, & Bradenton, Fla. passed away Thurs. Feb. 8, 2001 at Pines of Sarasota, Sarasota, Fla., she was 97. Mrs. Strange was a charter member of Suncoast Christian Church Bradenton, Fla. & a former member of Forest Avenue Christian Church of Knoxville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude; parents, John H. (Jack) Thomas & Elizabeth Morgan Thomas & brothers, Sydney, Ivor & Leslie Thomas. Mrs. Strange is survived by nieces, Joan L. Ridley of Gainesville, Fla. & Ruby Gillespie of Knoxville; nephews & wives, Jack H. and Janice Thomas, A. Moris and Marietta Thomas all of Knoxville and William J. & Sue Thomas of Daytona Beach, Fla.; several great-nieces and nephews & several great-great nieces & nephews. WHITEHEAD, GEORGE W. - 93, of Louisville died Sat., Feb. 10, 2001 at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was a member of Logan's Chapel United Methodist Church. He was retired from ALCOA & was a member of the ALCOA 25 Year Club. He was a Blount County School Teacher, and was a 50 year member of the Rockford Lodge #469 F&AM. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Davis Whitehead; grandsons, Jerry & Tony Whitehead; daughter in law, Ann McNiel Whitehead; brothers, D.K., Fred, & Denys; sisters, Pearl Eledge, Lucy Adams, & Alice Davis. BLACK, WILMA RUTH - age 70 of Macon, Ga., formerly of Knoxville, passed away Friday February 9, 2001 at her residence of a lingering illness. Mrs. Black was preceded in death by her parents, George Washington Williams and Cleo Koonz. She is survived by her husband, Mr. James R. Black of Macon; 1 son, Luther Eugene Shelton and wife, Kay of Macon, Ga.; 1 sister, Mrs. Wanda McCully of Bakersfield, Calif.; several nieces and nephews and many other family and friends. The family will receive friends on Monday Feb. 12, from 6-8 p.m. with the service at 8 p.m. Burial will be on Tuesday Feb. 13, at the Lynch-Bethel Church cemetery on Emory Rd. at 1 p.m. The family will meet at the cemetery at 12:45 p.m. Weaver Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements for Mrs. Wilma Ruth Black.

BOOKER, LILY - age 89 passed away at Hillcrest North Sunday morning Feb. 11, 2001. She was a long time resident of the Lincoln Park Community. Preceded in death by husbands, Horace McDaniel and Carl Booker. Survivors; sons and daughters in law, Jim and Betty McDaniel, Walter and Sylvia McDaniel; and son, Bill McDaniel and Nona Sisk, all of Knoxville; 4 step children; 11 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. BRANCH, REV. ROBERT MAURICE - age 61, Pastor of Farragut First Baptist Church, departed this life suddenly on February 10, 2001. He is preceded in death by his son, Kenneth Branch. Survived by his wife, Lindia Branch of Knoxville; daughters and sons in law, Kandace and Scott Craig of Kingston, Tenn., and Sherry and Chris Sanders of Knoxville; grandchildren, Brittney and Preston Craig and Joseph Sanders; brother and sister in law, Jack and Nannie Branch of Bristol, Tenn. as well as a host of loving family and friends. COOPER, CRAIG - 28 of 297 Old Citico Rd., Vonore left this world & the many that loved him doing what he most loved to do-riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle on Saturday evening, Feb. 10, 2001 at the U.T. Hospital of injuries received in a motorcycle accident. Craig was an employee of John Deer Co., Loudon. Though he is riding freely now he is missed by many loved ones; his mother, Betty Cooper & partner, Jack Clarke of Vonore; his father, Frank Cooper & partner, Kathy Yu of Knoxville; his second & loved father, Willie Lewis; his special first love, Tia Cooper; his brothers, Frank Cooper, Jr., Scott Cooper & wife, Hollye; nieces, Nicole, Brandi, Ashley; nephews, Jordan, & Bobby; his special aunt, Patty & many other aunts & uncles; his special friends, Travis, Patrick & Don and many more that he loved & loved him. Survivors: husband, Kevin Daugherty; children, Jennifer and Kimberly Daugherty, and John and Rick Whitaker; mother, Margie Major; father, Denver Clifton; sisters, Pam Collins and Melody Irwin; brother, Chris Clifton; and grandmother, Ida E. FERGUSON, DORIS BEELER - of Flower Mound, TX passed away Saturday, February 10, 2001 after a prolonged illness. Doris was born in Powell Station, Tenn. October 4, 1925. After graduating from Powell High School in 1943, she attended Knoxville Business College in Knoxville, Tenn. Doris was a resident of Richardson, Texas for 28 years and earned her Associate of Arts degree from Richland College in Richardson. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, H.D. "Bart" Ferguson; a son, Bruce Ferguson of Arlington, TX; a daughter, Joyce Ferguson Cagle of Flower Mound, TX; and three grandchildren, Randy, Ray, and Jake Cagle. Doris is also survived by her two brothers, Jack Beeler of Maynardville, Tenn. and Howard Lloyd Beeler of Proctor, Ark. HARVEL, BESSIE SUE - age 93 passed away on Saturday February 10, 2001 at the Hillcrest Nursing Home. Born on May 30, 1907 and is the daughter of the late, Sam and Dora Sligar. Preceded in death by husband, Burnette Harvel and daughter, Dorothy Paige and brother, Clarence Sligar. Survived by daughter and son in law, Rebecca and Clifton Acuff; sisters, Ida Cable and Mary Shepard; grandchildren, Cindy, Terry, Pam, and Missy, Frankie, Debbie; 12 great grandchildren and many friends of the family. GENTRY, CLAUDELLA QUEEN - age 88, of Pleasant Hill, Tenn., went to be with her Lord, Friday, February 9, 2001 in the Wharton Nursing Home, Pleasant Hill. She was a native of Isabella, Tenn., born December 23,1912. She made her home with her daughter and son in law for four years before becoming a resident of the nursing home. Daughter of Gordon and Ida Florence Turner Queen. Former member of the North Etowah Baptist Church and later transferred her membership to the United Methodist Church. Retired switchboard operator for Ft. Sanders Presbyterian Hospital, Knoxville. Preceded in death by parents listed above, husband, Joseph Ralph Gentry; brothers, Harrel, Charley, Turner, and Cloyce Queen; and sisters, Gaynell Beam, June Choate, and Graypell Cochran Bearden. Survivors: daughter and son in law, Mary Nell and Wayne L. JESSEE, CHARLES E. - 70, passed away Saturday evening February 10 at his home. He was born in Harlan, Ky. on May 19, 1930 to the late Kiser and Beulah Jessee. He was retired from Scripts Howard Newspaper, Knoxville New Sentinel. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two children, Charles Michael and Donna Sue. Surviving are his wife, Betty Lynn Roberts Jessee; one son, Gary Lynn Jessee; two daughters, Pamela Wenger and husband, Ray, Susan Wisdom and husband, Jack; five grandchildren, Amanda Suzanne Coffey and husband, Mark, Michael Ray Wenger, Ryan Lynn Jessee, Jacob Daniel Jessee, and Zachary Charles Wisdom; one great grandchild, Alyssa Nicole Coffey; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Monday, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home Kingsport or anytime at the home. Services will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with the Dr. Jack Parrott officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
