WILLIAMS, PEGGY JOYCE EVERS - age 73 of Oak Ridge, died at Fort Sanders Parkwest Hospital on Friday, 1-23-2001. Preceded in death by parents, Pearl Lovett and Harvey Edward Evers, Sr. and a brother, Harvey E. Evers, Jr. Survived by: husband, Bruce Edward Williams, Sr., Oak Ridge; sons, Bruce Edward Williams, Jr., and wife, Lorna of Jacksboro, Tenn., Russell Eugene Williams and wife, Charlotte of Oak Ridge; daughter, Linda Dale Bosley of Oak Ridge; brothers, Jack Wallace Evers of Fresno, Calif., Joseph Darrell Evers of Baton Rouge, La.; 15 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren. Funeral services are Monday, February 26, 2001 at 10 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints with son, Bishop Russell E. Williams officiating. Burial to follow in Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at the church. Weatherford Mortuary of Oak Ridge in charge of the arrangements.

BECK, MARY MAGDALEN - of Kingston, passed away Tuesday, February 20, 2001, at home. She was the widow of Earl Beck and attended the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Harriman. She served in the U.S. Navy, during World War II and accepted a position in Paris, being bilingual. She later lived in Saudi Arabia for eight years and in Monaco. She was an avid traveler. Survivors are cousin, Colin P. McEachen of Woodbridge, Va., and friend, Georgette Shooster of Kingston, Tenn. The body has been donated to The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, for research purposes.

BOYD, DOTT LOUISE - age 93, of West Knoxville, died Saturday, February 24, 2001, at her home. She was born April 18, 1907, in Mounds, Ill. Dott was a charter member of the Episcopal Church of the Ascension. She previously worked in Oak Ridge, during World War II. Prior to her husband Lee's death, they both traveled on many cruises through out the Caribbean. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Boyd and her sister, Claudia Cole. Survivors: brother, William L. Boyd of Knoxville; niece, Kay Sue Hopkins of Madison, Wisc. and nephew, Thomas Cole of Knoxville; great nieces and nephews, Kelly Gistelli, Craig Hopkins, Edie Dahlgren, Caitlin Cole, Adrian and Mallory Bardet. Memorial service 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension, the Rev. C. Alex Barron officiating. The family will receive friends following the memorial service in the Great Hall.

BURDETTE, VIRGINIA - (Mrs. George), age 90, of Kingsport, passed away Sunday, February 25, 2001, at her home. Mrs. Burdette was born in Maryville, Tenn., and was a former resident of Knoxville. She was the retired Director of the Tarleton Home for Children in Knoxville. She was a member of Church Street United Methodist Church in Knoxville, and was affiliated with First Broad Street United Methodist Church, while she resided in Kingsport. She was also a member of the Progressive Education Organization, and was a supporter of the Cotty Cottage. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hamilton and Sally Cress Eggers, and husband, George Burdette. Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Ford Quillen of Gate City, Va.; three granddaughters, Madre Forsha of Kingsport, Carter Brown of Johnson City, and Lenior McClung of Gate City, Va.; five great-grandchildren, Kristopher Forsha, Anna McClung, Matthew McClung, Connor Brown, and Patrick Brown; one brother, Len Eggers of Johnson City; several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, downtown. Services will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at First Broad Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. Charles T. Neal and Dr. Toombs H. Kay, Jr. officiating. The body will be taken to the Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel, Knoxville, where calling hours will be from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Wednesday. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel, with Dr. Toombs H. Kay, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Highland Memorial cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kay Center, Church Street United Methodist Church, 400 Henley Street, Knoxville, TN 37902, or to the First Broad Street United Methodist Church, First Church Renovation Program, P.O. Box 1346, Kingsport, TN 37662. Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, downtown, is in charge of arrangements. Local arrangements by Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel.

COMPTON, VETA R. - age 83, of Knoxville, passed away Saturday, February 24, 2001, at 8:10 p.m. at home. She was of the Baptist faith. Preceded in death by parents, Ben and Gladys Robinson; husband, Lonas Compton, Sr., and sisters, Erma Headrick and Mildred Rayfield. Survived by daughter, Connie Palomino of Nevada; daughters and sons-in-law, Charlotte Joyce and Bill Lawson of Rockford, and Kay and Don Coleman of Knoxville; sons and daughters-in-law, Lonas Jr. and Rhonda Compton of Maryville, and Jim and Linda Compton of Knoxville; 26 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 8 p.m. Monday, February 26, 2001, at McCarty's Chapel on Holston Drive with Rev. Carl McGill and Rev. Jerry Copeland officiating. Interment icon will be Tuesday, February 27, 2001, at 2 p.m. at Piney Grove cemetery in Tellico Plains. Pallbearers: Jimmy Compton, Will Byrd, Adam Silvey, Charles Truex, Chris Cameron, Stacey Lovelace and Bill Fox. Honorary Pallbearers: nephews, Bob, Bill, Sammy and Allen Headrick. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriners Organization and Open Arms Corp. The Compton family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Monday at McCarty's Mortuary, 4004 Holston Drive.

COWAN, TAYLOR O., III - age 57, of Knoxville, died Sunday, February 25, 2001, at St. Mary's Residential Hospice Center. He was a Vietnam Veteran. An avid hiker and runner, being a member of the Smoky Mountain Hiking Club and the Knoxville Track Club. He was a graduate of The University of Tennessee College of Business Administration. Co-Owner of BP Express Intermodal Carrier and Tri-City Trucking Company. Preceded in death by mother, Louise Stinette Cowan. Survivors: wife, Caroline K. Cowan; son, T. Chad Cowan; daughter, C. Kristin Cowan, all of Knoxville; father, Taylor O. Cowan, Jr. of Bristol and several cousins. A special thanks to two oncologist cousins, Dr. John Cowan of Rockford and Dr. Ben Cowan of Bristol for special support and care during his illness. Family and friends will meet at Glenwood cemetery in Bristol at 1 p.m. Wednesday for graveside service, Dr. Gordon Turnbull officiating. Memorials may be made to Appalachian Trail Maintenance Fund, P.O. Box 1454, Knoxville, TN 37901. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5-8 p.m. at Gentry-Griffey Chapel.

CRONAS, ALICE L. WEBB - age 77, of Knoxville, passed away Saturday, February 24, 2001, at St. Mary's Medical Center. A member of Greenway Baptist Church. Preceded in death by husband, Pete M. Cronas, Jr. Survivors: sons, Wayne, Michael and Pete Cronas III; adopted daughter, Jessica Cronas; six grandchildren; four great-granddaughters; brothers, Ben, Paul, Gene, Miran and Cecil Webb; sister, Naomi Hurst and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel with Rev. Herbert Jones officiating. Interment icon in Greenwood cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Monday at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel.

Preceded in death by parents, Willie & Essie Dickey; brothers, Johnney Brownlow & Bobby Bussey. Leaves to cherish memories, devoted wife of 26 years, Sherley Dickey; children, Damarcus Dickey of Knoxville, Lamont Glass of Manchester, Ky., Jah Edgar Dickey & Mayrini Dickey; four grandchildren; brothers, Andre' Bussey & Jerry Roberts; sister, Cheryl and husband, Robert Knight of Lebanon, Tenn.; aunt, Elizabeth (Cornell) Bishop; devoted nieces, Marie Weston and Stephanie Glass; cousin, Jesse Mae Dickey; host of other relatives and friends to include devoted friends, Lewis (Jamesey) Foster. Survivors: son and daughter-in-law, Rex and Sara Dickie; grandchildren, Dawn Paone, David Taylor, and Jennifer Stavro; nine great-grandchildren; brothers, Troy Rolen and Jimmy Ray Rolen. EDWARDS, MRS. JESSIE ROGERS - age 83, of New Tazewell, was born October 16, 1917, departed this life February 23, 2001, at UT Hospital in Knoxville. She professed faith in Christ at an early age at Cawood Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ward Milton Edwards; parents, G.O. and Nannie Rogers; brothers, Risley, J.H., Harold and Lorne Rogers; sister, Melba Williams. She is survived by son, John Edwards of Andersonville, Tenn.; son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Billie Edwards of New Tazewell; grandchildren, Martie and Mary, Mike and Jason Edwards, Marlene Williams, Mitchell and Pam Edwards, and Donna and Jeff Neely; several great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Boyd and Mona Rogers of Corryton; sister and brother-in-law, Irene and Tony Fitzatolie; sisters, Bonima Steele and Marie Hall, all of Maryville, Tenn.; special friend, Bonnie Lewis; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. GARRISON, SUSIE - age 90, of Sweetwater, Tenn., passed away Saturday, February 24, 2001, at Sweetwater Hospital, after a lengthy illness. She was a member of the First Assembly of God of Sweetwater. Preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Garrison; parents, Charlie and Martha Runyon Matlock; sisters, Louverna Mayne and Norsie Reece; brother, Charles Matlock and son-in-law, Kenneth Lee. Survivors include daughters and son-in-law, Faye Lee of Sweetwater, and Helen and Harry Watson of Paris, Tenn.; son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Carolyn Garrison of Sweetwater; sister, Martha Miller of San Louis, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. The body is at Kyker Funeral Home, Sweetwater, where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday, with funeral service to follow at 8 p.m. in Kyker's Chapel with Rev. Larry Orr officiating. Interment icon 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Mt. Zion Methodist Church cemetery.
