COWAN, TAYLOR O., III - age 57, of Knoxville, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, at St. Mary's Residential Hospice. He was a Vietnam Veteran. An avid hiker and runner, being a member of the Smoky Mountain Hiking Club and the Knoxville Track Club. He was a graduate of The University of Tennessee College of Business Administration. Co-Owner of BP Express Intermodal Carrier and Tri-City Trucking Company. Preceded in death by mother, Louise Stinette Cowan. Survivors: wife, Caroline K. Cowan; son, T. Chad Cowan; daughter, C. Kristin Cowan, all of Knoxville; father, Taylor O. Cowan, Jr. of Bristol and several cousins. A special thanks to two oncologist cousins, Dr. John Cowan of Rockford and Dr. Ben Cowan of Bristol for special support and care during his illness. Family and friends will meet at Glenwood cemetery in Bristol at 1 p.m. Wednesday for graveside service, Dr. Gordon Turnbull officiating. CRONAS, ALICE L. WEBB - 77, of Knoxville, passed away Saturday, Feb. 4, 2001, at St. Mary's Medical Center. Member of Greenway Baptist Church. Preceded in death by husband, Pete M. Cronas, Jr. Survivors: sons, Wayne, Michael and Pete Cronas III; adopted daughter, Jessica Cronas; six grandchildren; four great-granddaughters; brothers, Ben, Paul, Gene, Miran and Cecil Webb; sister, Naomi Hurst and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service 11 a.m. Tuesday, Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel with Rev. Herbert Jones officiating. Interment icon in Greenwood cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons nd nephews. DAVIES, MAMIE HUDSON - age 93, of Oak Ridge, formerly of Knoxville, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, at Methodist Medical Center, Oak Ridge. She was a member of Rocky Hill Baptist Church. Survivors: sister, Pearl Lyndon of Oak Ridge and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral service 7 p.m. Tuesday at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel with Dr. Terry Kirby officiating. Family and friends will meet Wednesday at Highland Memorial cemetery for a 10 a.m. graveside service. Pallbearers will be nephews. DAVIS, LELA BELLE - age 88, of Somerset, Ky., formerly of Knoxville, passed away Saturday, February 24, 2001, at Britthaven Nursing Home in Somerset, Kentucky. She was a member of Euclid Avenue Baptist Church and a retired employee of JFG Coffee Co. She was preceded in death by husband, Arthur C. Davis; father, Frank Miller and mother, Sarah Miller Wyrick; brothers, Howard, Clarence and Edward C. Miller. Survivors include a sister, Irene Sexton of Somerset, Ky.; step daughters, Margaret Sutton and Evelyn Thompson, both of Knoxville, Louise Ray of Alabama, and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 6-7 p.m. Tuesday at Berry Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. with Rev. Lee Lyon officiating. DIXON, STEVE G. - age 41, of Grand Lane, Dandridge, Tenn., passed away suddenly Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, at home. Steve served as a Vice-President of the Trust Department for First Tennessee Bank of Knoxville, and was an avid golfer and gardener. Survivors: father and mother, William Glenn Dixon and Nan Wright Dixon of Turkey, N.C.; brother, Gregory Bryan Dixon of Raleigh, N.C.; randmother, Louise O'Quinn Wright; niece, Jacqueline Riley Dixon; nephew, Gregory Cole Dixon. Funeral services Wednesday, 7:30 p.m. at Farrar Dandridge Chapel with Rev. Hugh Kilgore officiating. Interment icon graveside services Friday, 11 a.m. at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Clinton, N.C. In lieu of flowers and due to the body being returned to Clinton, N.C., the family request memorial gifts be made to the Knoxville Zoo, Steve Dixon Memorial Fund, Attn: Judy, P.O. HELTON, EMERY RAY "HEN" - age 36, of Maynardville, passed away suddenly, Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, due to injuries received in an automobile accident. He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church on Tater Valley Road in Luttrell, and was a dedicated employee of Plasti-Line Co. for 17 years. Preceded in death by grandparents, Joe and Jenny Kelley, and Frank Helton; uncles, J.B. Kelley and Jerry Wayne Helton; aunts, Bessie Goshen and Brenda Kay Postrick, and special aunt, Geraldine Kelley. He is survived by his children, who he loved so much, daughter, Charity Helton; sons, Chance and Heath Helton, all of Maynardville; mother and step father, Edith and Von Richardson of Maynardville; father and step mother, Bobby Joe and Shirley Helton of Knoxville; only surviving grandparent, grandmother, Grace Foster of Dayton, Ohio; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bobby and Lisa Helton of Halls, Michael and Marylin Helton of Maryville, Tim and Rhonda Helton of Maynardville; sisters and brother-in-law, Melissa and Stephen Muncey, Kellie Shoffner and fiance', Jeffery Shope, all of Maynardville; step brothers, Jeff and Roger Richardson, both of Maynardville, Bennie Wayne Satterfield of Knoxville; step sister, Janet Welch of Knoxville, along with a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles. HOLT, RUBY J. HAROLD - age 91, of Sweetwater, Tenn., passed away Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, at Sweetwater Hospital. Preceded in death by husband, Arnold Holt; brothers, Homer, Harold and Claude Harold; sister, Mable Harold. She was a member of Paint Rock Baptist Church. Survivors include son, Kenneth Holt of Sweetwater; sister, Hazel Clower and brother, Frank Harold, both of Georgia; several nieces and nephews. The body is at Kyker Funeral Home, Sweetwater, where the family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Wednesday with funeral service to follow at 8 p.m. in Kyker's Chapel with Rev. R. L. Davis officiating. HOUSER, ALFRED B. ( A.B.) - age 79, of Strawberry Plains, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Lenora and Berry Houser; sister, Loretta Beal; brothers, Burl and Johnny Houser. He is survived by wife, Juanita Houser; son, Alfred L. Houser; daughters, Carolyn Manning and husband Lee, Alene Miller and husband Haroll; brothers and sisters, Reva Walker, Ella Mae Johnson, Irene Lane, Hazel Reagan, David Houser and Arthur Houser; grandchildren, Alfred L. Houser, Jr., Lance and Kenneth Riley, Angie McMahan, Tami Lee, Kasie Morgan, Wendy Monroe, Brandy Miller and Carlene Pilant; 17 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service 8 p.m. Monday at McCarty Evergreen Chapel with Rev. Charlie Lynch and Rev. Jack Arwood officiating. JOHNSON, RUBY M. - age 84 of 125 Finley Drive, Lenoir City passed away Sunday, February 25, 2001 at Ft. Sanders Park West Hospital. Ruby was a member of West Broadway Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by husband, Otis Johnson; daughter, Jerry Vineyard; grandson, Charlie Johnson; and son in law, James Costner. Survived by sons & daughters in law, Harold and Harriett Johnson of Manchester, J.L. and Wilma Johnson, Charles and Jean Johnson, Jack Johnson, Ronnie Johnson all of Lenoir City, Joe and Rebecca Johnson of Knoxville; daughters & son in law, Helen and Jim Thomas of Loudon, Jeanette Costner of Lenoir City and Lavada Thearp of Lenoir City; 22 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; special friends, Cloe Thomas and Mary Belle O'Neal; a special thanks to all her sitters. MONTOOTH, JOHN ELMER - age 81, of Sweetwater, passed away Sunday, February 25, 2001, at Wood Presbyterian Home. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sweetwater. Served in the U.S. Army. He was the former owner and operator of Sinclair and Dixie Texaco Service Station. Preceded in death by parents, Nute and Edna Mae Johnson Montooth; brother, H.L. Montooth; sister, Gladys Bowman. Survivors include: wife of 58 years, Mildred Rose Montooth, the owner of Mildred's Dress Shop in Sweetwater; brothers, Roy "Coot" Montooth, Homer Montooth, Carl Montooth; sister, Mary Francis Kyle all of Sweetwater; several nieces and nephews. The body is at Kyker Funeral Home, Sweetwater, where the family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Funeral service 8 p.m. in Kyker's Chapel with Rev. Clayton Dunsmore and Rev. Blanche Settles officiating. Interment icon 10 a.m. Wednesday in Sweetwater Valley Memorial Park.

PARKER, BETTY J. - age 65, of Kingsport, passed away Sunday, February 25, 2001, at home. She was born in Sullivan County, and was a lifelong resident of Kingsport. She was a former teacher for 13 years at Andrew Johnson Elementary School. She was a member of First Baptist Church and actively involved in the Friendship Fellowship Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Bessie Brooks. Surviving are her husband of 34 years, Bob Parker; daughters, Precia and Sherri Parker, both of Knoxville; sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Bob Brown of Largo, Fla.; nephew, Andrew Brown and wife, Pam of Reddington Beach, Fla.; niece, Elizabeth Gregson and husband, Tim of Reddington Beach, Fla.; great niece, Emily Gregson of Reddington Beach, Fla.; cousin, Roger Thayer of Kingsport. Calling hours will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, downtown. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, Kingsport, with the Rev. A member of St. Lukes United Methodist Church and was active with the Childrens Ministry. A member of the Lay Witness Movement, board member of Tennessee Christian Ashran, retired from the University of Tennessee. Preceded in death by father, J. Thompson Wright; brothers, Emerson J. Wright and Hayden Wright; husband, Johnny C. Parsons. Survivors: daughter and son-in-law, Angelia and Allen Sanders of Knoxville; son and daughter-in-law, John Philip and Wendy Parsons of Cookeville; grandchildren, Katie Sanders, Benjamin, Emily, Alexander, and Natalie Parsons; mother, Sallie S. Wright; sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Howard Fritts; brothers and sisters-in-law, James O. and Betty Wright, Bill and Jean Wright, and Buddy and Ruby Wright; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Betty Wright, and Sylvia and Ed Easterday; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Kenneth and Pat Parsons, Glenn and Ninfa Parsons; and several beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. PENTICOFF, LeROY A. - age 82 of the Norwood community, died Sunday February 25, 2001. He was a member of Norwood Baptist Church. Preceded in death by a brother, Robert Penticoff; and sister, Mary Ellen Rosenquist. Mr. Penticoff is survived by his wife, Barbara Reynolds Penticoff; daughter and son in law, Joyce & Dwayne Davis, of Knoxville; step daughter and son in law, Diana & Dennis Johnson of Maryville; brother, George Penticoff of Pensacola, Fla.; sister in law, Joan Penticoff of Gainesville, Fla.; granddaughters, Kelly, Kristin, and Lauren Davis; step grandchildren, Denny Johnson and his wife, Donna Johnson; step granddaughter, Donna Johnson; niece, Ronella Wilson; and nephew, Robert George Penticoff. REYLING, LAURA GREEN - 79, of Farragut, passed away Sunday, Feb.25, 2001, at Ft. Sanders Parkwest Medical Center. Laura was a life long member of Concord Presbyterian Church. She was a volunteer for the Farragut Folk Life Museum. Laura was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Sallie Ann Reyling; brother, Samuel Patton Green. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Paul M. Reyling; daughters and sons-in-law, Susan Rice of Farragut, Paula and Bill Via of Houston, Texas, Nancy and Richard Oberg of Jackson, Tenn.; grandchildren, Hobie Rice and wife Deena of Knoxville, Christy Sigler and husband Tom of Southhaven, Miss., Jennifer and Robbie Via of Houston, Texas, Catherine and Alan Oberg of Jackson, Tenn.; great-granddaughter, Haley Rice of North Carolina; several nieces and nephews. RIDDLE, MARY LYNN - age 61, of Knoxville, passed away Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, at U.T. Medical Center, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was an employee of University Eye Surgeons for the past 21 years. Preceded in death by mother, Frances Owens and brother, Philip Owens. Survivors: husband, Louis G. Riddle, Sr.; son, Glynn Riddle and wife, Victoria of Franklin, Tenn.; daughter, Donna Wortham and husband, Thomas of Maryville; father, Carlyle B. Owens, Sr. of Harlan, Ky.; brother and wife, Carlyle, Jr. and Gale Owens of Greensboro, N.C.; five beautiful grandchildren, Alex, Ellen, and Mary Beth Wortham and Emily and Nathaniel Riddle; several nieces and nephews. Funeral service 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Fountain City Presbyterian Church, Dr. Tom Ballard, Dr. David Gerkin and Rev. Sam Darden officiating. SCHURING, CAROLINE E. - age 82, of Knoxville, formerly of Elgin, Illinois, passed away 10:13 a.m. Sunday, Feb.25, 2001, at Saint Mary's Medical Center. She was a member of Washington Pike United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Circle #2, Christian Service Sunday School Class, United Methodist Women Service Guild and the Church Women United. She graduated from The Sherman Hospital School of Nursing in Elgin, Illinois in 1941. She was active in nursing until her retirement. Preceded in death by husband, Ralph Schuring; parents, William and Mabel Enlenfeldt and a sister, Mrs. Alfred (Marion) Stemwedel. Survivors: sister-in-law, Dorothy Hokanson of Elgin, Illinois; nephew and wife, Joe and Heather Imburgia, and a dear friend, Myrtle Barrows, all of Knoxville. Also, survived by two godchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral service 8 p.m. Tuesday at Washington Pike United Methodist Church, Dr. James R. Bailes officiating.
