She was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Elizabeth Plank Bright, and her brothers. Survivors: sister-in-law, Naomi Bright of Lenoir City; aunt, Willie Runion of Georgia; nephew, Edward Gass of Knoxville; special friends, June Browning, Michael Cartwright, and the St. Mary's Sisters of Mercy, all of Knoxville. Family and friends will gather at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Click Funeral Home in Lenoir City and proceed to Lenoir City cemetery at 2 p.m. for graveside services with Rev. Mike Mikels officiating. Friends may call at their convenience at Click Funeral Home in Lenoir City.

PALMER, WILLIAM CARROL - age 84, of Knoxville, died Tuesday, February 27, 2001. He was a member of Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church and Burlington Lodge #763 F&AM. Mr. Palmer was a Veteran of the United States Army and the retired Treasurer for the City of Knoxville. Preceded in death by his parents, William Ernest and Mary Terry Palmer, and wives, Louise Lyle Palmer and Lucille Smith McMichael Palmer. He is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Jim Gentry; son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Diane Christian Palmer, all of Knoxville; grandchildren, Randy Gentry, Justin Gentry and his wife Brandy, Pam Holbert and her husband Jeff, and Janette Palmer; great-grandchildren, Zachary, Kayla, Tori, Brendan, and MacKenzie; daughter-in-law, Beatrice Palmer; sister and brother-in-law, Virginia and Paul Elder of Maryville; step children, Allan and Jim McMichael, Becky Paylor, and Cathy Tallent; special cousin, Hobert Palmer. The family would like to thank the staff of Shannondale Nursing Center and especially the fourth floor, for their care of Mr. Palmer. The family will receive friends 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday followed at 7:30 p.m. by the funeral service at Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church with Rev. Vernon Holstad officiating. Family and friends will meet Friday at Greenwood cemetery for a 2 p.m. interment icon service. PARSONS, BERDIE WRIGHT - age 71, of Knoxville, passed away Sunday, February 25, 2001, at St. Mary's Medical Center. A member of St. Lukes United Methodist Church and was active with the Childrens Ministry. A member of the Lay Witness Movement, board member of Tennessee Christian Ashran, retired from the University of Tennessee. Preceded in death by father, J. Thompson Wright; brothers, Emerson J. Wright and Hayden Wright; husband, Johnny C. Parsons. Survivors: daughter and son-in-law, Angelia and Allen Sanders of Knoxville; son and daughter-in-law, John Philip and Wendy Parsons of Cookeville; grandchildren, Katie Sanders, Benjamin, Emily, Alexander, and Natalie Parsons; mother, Sallie S. Wright; sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Howard Fritts; brothers and sisters-in-law, James O. and Betty Wright, Bill and Jean Wright, and Buddy and Ruby Wright; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Betty Wright, and Sylvia and Ed Easterday; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Kenneth and Pat Parsons, Glenn and Ninfa Parsons; and several beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral service 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Lukes United Methodist Church with Rev. Bill Stooksbury officiating. The body will lie in state one hour before services at the church. PENTICOFF, LeROY A. - age 82, of the Norwood community, died Sunday, February 25, 2001. He was a member of Norwood Baptist Church. Preceded in death by a brother, Robert Penticoff and sister, Mary Ellen Rosenquist. Mr. Penticoff is survived by his wife, Barbara Reynolds Penticoff; daughter and son in law, Joyce and Dwayne Davis, of Knoxville; step daughter and son in law, Diana and Dennis Johnson of Maryville; brother, George Penticoff of Pensacola, Fla.; sister in law, Joan Penticoff of Gainesville, Fla.; granddaughters, Kelly, Kristin, and Lauren Davis; step grandchildren, Denny Johnson and his wife, Donna Johnson; step granddaughter, Donna Johnson; niece, Ronella Wilson, and nephew, Robert George Penticoff. Family and friends will meet Wednesday at the main entrance to Greenwood cemetery for a 3 p.m. graveside service with Rev. Marc Sasser officiating. Pallbearers: Dewayne Davis, Dennis Johnson, Bob Nelson, Roland Smith, Jimmy McDaniel, and Alvin Perryman. SCHEITLIN, RUTH C. - age 78, of Oak Ridge, passed away Tuesday, February 27, 2001, at her home. Mrs. Scheitlin came to Oak Ridge from Norton, Va., in June, 1944, and worked briefly on the Manhattan project. During this time, she met and married Frank M. Scheitlin on March 19, 1949, the day the gates of Oak Ridge were opened to the public. She was well known in Oak Ridge and had a wide circle of friends. She was a much sought-after bridge partner and achieved Life Master status from the American Contract Bridge Association in 1988. From 1975 to 1986, she was co-owner of the Oak Ridge Academy of Dance and before her retirement in 1993, served as Office Manager at Samuel's in Jackson Square. Her sense of adventure and love of travel took her to many different places. One that held special significance for her was Destin, Fla., where over the years she spent many happy times with family and friends. She embraced life with a sense of wonder and a great deal of courage. Her generosity and kindness were only a part of the legacy of love she leaves behind. This gracious lady with a gentle spirit will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Mrs. Scheitlin was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. She is survived by three daughters, Jeanne Draughn (Fred Jones) of Kingston, Tenn., Elaine Scheitlin (Chip Cappelletti) of Durham, N.C., and Carol Boruff (Gary) of Charlotte, N.C.; grandsons, Jody Mitchell (Sue) of Brentwood, Tenn., and Max Palmer of Durham, N.C.; great-grandsons, Ian and Tyler Mitchell of Brentwood, Tenn.; sister, Wilma Trebilcox (Paul) of Crossville, Tenn.; niece, Barbara Smith (James) of Powell, Tenn.; great niece, Shannon (Steve) Mathewson and their son Logan; mother-in-law, Alberta Hitch and sister-in-law, Dorothy Shaw, both of Evansville, Ind. Frank Sheitlin, her husband of 48 years, her mother, Carrie Lawson, her sister, Evelyn Robinson, and her nephew, Michael Robinson preceded her in death. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 1, 2001, at 11 a.m. at the United Church Chapel on the Hill with Dr. Boyd Carter officiating. Following the service, friends are invited to join the family for receiving and a celebration of life in the Fellowship Hall of the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests, memorials be made to Covenant HomeCare and Hospice in recognition of the loving care she received from them in the final days of her life. Donations should be designated for "patient care" and sent to Covenant HomeCare and Hospice, 700 S. Illinois Ave., Oak Ridge, TN 37830. RAY, MARTHA ELIZABETH (BETTIE) PARK - of Panama City, Fla., formerly of Lenoir City, passed away Monday, February 26, 2001, in Panama City. Bettie was born in Philadelphia, Penn., to the Rev. Dr. and Mrs. James A. Park. She was a graduate of Lenoir City High School and she applied and was accepted as a student of the Cadek Conservator of Music of the University of Chattanooga. As a student of the renowned organist, Miss Isa McIlwraith, Bettie received her Bachelor of Music degree from the Cadek Conservator. During this period, she also served as the Director of Music and Organist of the First United Methodist Church in Morristown, under the pastorate of Dr. Earl G. Hunt. Throughout her youth, she showed horses, and later earned her pilot's license and had the joy of piloting a private plane. She enjoyed flower arranging and being in the outdoors. She was most interested in and concerned about her students, always wanting them to succeed in their endeavors, and she thrived on beautiful music. She is survived by her husband, Emory G. Ray; daughters, Sandi Burleson and Pat Ray; son-in-law, Joe Burleson; grandchildren, Heather Burleson and Ben Burleson; mother, Mrs. James A. Park; sisters-in-law, Rosalyn Ray Donaldson of Tifton, Ga., Frances Ray Wall of Greenville, S.C. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Forest Lawn Mausoleum, Panama City. A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 5, at 2 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church of Panama City. The family request, no flowers be sent, and contributions be made to the Gulf Coast Community College Foundation, 5230 W. Highway 98, Panama City, FL 32401, in memory of Mrs. Ray. RUBLE, GEORGE H., SR. - age 85, of Knoxville, died Tuesday, February 27, 2001. He was a member of Christus Victor Lutheran Church and the Northside Kiwanis Club. Mr. Ruble was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving during World War II, and had retired from the U.S. Post Office. Preceded in death by his first wife, Patti Ruble and daughter, Jaimie Hamilton. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ruble; sons, George H. Ruble, Jr. of Clinton, and Stephen H. Ruble of Knoxville; stepson, David E. Boatman of Nashville; 16 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; brother, H. C. Lane of Knoxville. Funeral service 7 p.m. Thursday at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel with Rev. Rick Grover officiating. Family and friends will meet Friday at Greenwood cemetery for an interment icon service. SLIGER, ALMA LOUISE HUBBARD - age 70, of Knoxville, passed away Monday, February 26, 2001. A member of First Freewill Baptist Church. Preceded in death by husband, Leroy Sliger; parents, Jack and Dolly Hubbard; sister, Lorraine Hubbard; brother, Bill Hubbard. Survived by daughter, Charlotte Stinnett; sons and daughters-in-law, Ronnie and Sondra Sliger, Terry and Teresa Sliger, and Dennis and Sandra Sliger; son, Jeff Sliger; 10 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; sisters, Shirley, Lilly, and Mildred of Baltimore, Md.; brother, Kenneth, also of Baltimore. Family and friends will meet at Edgewood cemetery 11 a.m. Thursday for a graveside service. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Mynatt's.

BALE, NELL O'BRYAN "SISSY" - age 74, of Horse Cave, Ky., passed away 6:20 a.m. Sat., March 3, 2001, at Caverna Memorial Hospital. She was an Owenboro native, and a member of Our Lady of the Caves Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Martin O'Bryan and Helen Medley O'Bryan, a son, James Kenneth "Kenny" Bale, a daughter, Anne Isabella Bale, and a sister, Edna O'Bryan Hicks. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 6, 2001, at Our Lady of the Caves Catholic Church in Horse Cave with burial in the Horse Cave Municipal cemetery. Visitation from 10 a.m.- 9 p.m. Mon., March 5, 2001, at Winn Funeral Home. No visiting prior to the service on Tuesday. CAPPS, EVA VIOLA (VI) - age 87 of Washburn passed away 8:20 a.m. Sat., Mar. 3, 2001 at her home. She was a member of Central View American Christian Church and served as its Secretary and Treasurer for 53 years. Preceded in death by loving parents, John and Maude Wolfenbarger; her loving husband, Tyson B. Capps; brother, Vaughn Wolfenbarger. She is survived by her loving family: son and daughter in law, Dale and Patsy Capps; grandsons, Roger Capps and wife, Shelia, Timothy Capps; granddaughter, Cynthia (Capps) Tipton and husband, Tim; great grandchildren, Jacob Capps, Logan Capps and Madison Tipton, all of Washburn; brother and sister in law, Lon and Mae Wolfenbarger; sister, Retha Beeler; sister in law, Ida Mae Wolfenbarger, all of Washburn. COBBLE, JOE ALLEN - age 72 of Lenoir City, formerly of Fountain City, passed away early Sunday morning March 4, 2001, at Park West Hospital. Joe was a graduate of Central High School class of 1946 and attended the University of Tennessee. He was an accomplished artist and an avid golfer. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, James Earnest and Vorus Ware Cobble; brother, Jim Cobble. He will be missed by his sisters, Jean Drennen, Dorothy Cobble and Judy Sylvester; nieces, Jen Drennen, Amy Martin, Katey Durham and Megan Dunn; nephews, Jimmy Cobble and Ben Durham; loving and faithful friends, Courtney and Nell Strange.
