He was a 32nd degree mason and member of Bright Hope Lodge #557 F&AM, the Scottish Rite and York Rite Bodies. Knights Templar and Grand Lodge of Tennessee Worthy Patron O.E.S. He was the owner of Frank Jennings and Associates. A Veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II. Preceded in death by his wife, Lotus Livesay Jennings. Survived by daughter and son-in-law, Mary Annette and Steven Mayfield; sons and daughters-in-law, Frank T. and Susan Jennings, Jr., Jack D. and Marti Jennings, all of Knoxville; grandchildren, Steve Mayfield, Jr., Clay and Lori Mayfield, and Carrie and Karl Weaver, all of Knoxville, Jennifer Rachel Jennings, Laura Jennings, and Jack Jennings, all of Louisiana; great-granddaughters, Kaitlynn Mayfield and Kelsey Mayfield; brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Audrey Jennings of Knoxville; sister, Annette Noah of Knoxville; several nieces and nephews. KERR, LLOYD OLIVER - age 93, of Maryville, passed away Tuesday morning, March 6, 2001, at Blount Memorial Hospital. A member and former deacon at Memorial Baptist Church, retired from ALCOA with 41 years of service, and a member of the 25 Year Club. Preceded in death by parents, G. B. and Laura Kerr; sons-in-law, John Jackson and Lloyd "Gene" Burchfield. Survivors: wife, Lela Williams Kerr; daughters, Wanda Jackson and Betty Burchfield, both of Maryville; daughter and son-in-law, Reba Faye and Keith McDaniel of Friendsville; sons and daughters-in-law, Darrell and Sandra Kerr, and Mayford and Judy Kerr, all of Maryville; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; brother, Linton Kerr of Maryville. Funeral service 2 p.m. Thursday, March 8, 2001, Miller Funeral Home Magnolia Chapel, Rev. Greg Williamson, Rev. John Estes, and Rev. Carl White officiating. KOPLAN, MARTIN "MARTY" ANDREW - age 36, passed away suddenly on Sunday, March 4, 2001, at his home in Irvine, Calif. Marty received a Bachelor of Science degree with highest honors in Finance at the University of Tenn., and an MBA from the University of Houston. He was a 20 year Veteran with United Parcel Service, where he worked as the District Controller in their West Los Angeles office. His greatest achievement, and that for which he was most proud, was his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Ramona Lynn Hilton Koplan; two sons, Austin and Zachary; mother, Sue Miller; father, Gary Koplan; brother, Ben and wife Kristine; sister, Karen, much additional family and many, many friends. He will be missed and loved forever. Funeral service will be at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel on Thursday, at 10 a.m., Rabbi Howard Simon and Rabbi Beth Schwartz officiating. Interment icon to follow in the Lakeview cemetery in Lenoir City. The family asks that donations in Marty's memory be made to The Children's Institute International, where he was a volunteer. A non-profit organization for abused and neglected children, the Institute's address is 711 S. New Hampshire, Los Angeles, CA 90005, Attn: Wendy. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel.

MARSHALL, JOHN EDWARD, JR. - age 55, of Knoxville, Tenn., passed away Sunday, March 4, 2001, at St. Mary's Hospital. Preceded in death by his father, John Edward Marshall, Sr. Survived by mother, Reva Plemens Marshall; brother, Michael Marshall; nephew, Michael Marshall, Jr., and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins. John will be remembered by his family and loved ones as a kind, gentle, loving, considerate person, one who enjoyed God's creations, such as a beautiful sunset or a lovely flower. He was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman. At his request, his body was made available for organ transplants and his remains were cremated to be spread on the waters of his favorite fishing spots. Those wishing may make memorial contributions to the Building Fund of the Halls Christian Church, 4131 East Emory Rd., Knoxville, TN 37938. Minister Larry Woods will officiate at a memorial service for John at the Halls Christian Church beginning at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 7.

MEEKS, KAY - Our special angel and beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2001, at Baptist Hospital. As a Silver Master, she was a life long dedicated bridge player, much loved and respected by her peers. Kay was a guiding force in the creation of the new Knoxville Bridge Center and will be sorely missed by all that knew her, both as a bridge player and a friend. She was past President of the OMNI Women's Club and involved in Welcome Wagon, Newcomers, and many other social and civic organizations. Mrs. Weeks was preceded in death by her husband, Hatcher; mother, Martha Martin; father, Albert Jellel; sisters, Minnie, Gracie, and Josephine, and brothers, Richie and Amel. She is survived by her loving family, daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Leonard Ray, and Sharon and Ron Cooper; four grandchildren, Danielle, Ryan, Lori, and Joshua; her beloved friend, Pepper; brother, Edward; sisters, Dorothy, Betty, Margery, Deloris, and Gloria, and many cherished nieces and nephews. Mrs. Meeks is at Highland West Funeral Home, 9913 Sherrill Lane, where the family will receive friends from 5-6:30 p.m. Saturday. A memorial service will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family request, memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 871 Weisgarber Road, Knoxville, TN 37909, or to your personal church in Kay's name. REED, SYLVIA JEAN - age 64, of East Knoxville, passed away Saturday, March 3, 2001, at Baptist Hospital. She attended Westside Baptist Church. Preceded in death by parents, Elzie and Clemme Cloninger; brother, Lester, and sister, Anna Lee Drinnen. Survivors: sons, Kenneth Stallings and wife Cathy, James (Tommy) Stallings, and Wade LeQuire, Jr. and wife Kathy; daughter, Teresa Walker and husband Floyd; grandchildren, Rocky and Jenny LeQuire, Kevin, Michael and Michelle Stallings, and Alvin and David Walker; great-grandchildren, Taylor Sue Stallings, and Coleman Walker; brother, William Elzie Cloninger, Jr.; sisters, Hazel, Irene, Gladys, Belva, Della, and Willie; several nieces and nephews. ROBERTS, BETTY JO BERRY - age 50, of 904 Vale St., Loudon, passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2001, at Fort Sanders Parkwest Hospital. She was survived by four sons, Bryan Clemmer of Madisonville, Lloyd Clemmer and wife Katrina of Halls, Billy Clemmer and wife Kathy of Loudon, and David Lynn Clemmer of Ohio; four grandchildren; parents, Paul S. (Jimbo) and Josephine Crisp Berry of Loudon; brothers, Allen Berry of Georgia, and Sterling Berry of Madisonville; sisters, Dora Ann Lowe of Georgia, Patsy Willis, Jerri Ramsey Watkins, Kay Pitts, and Frankie Jenkins, all of Loudon. ROSE, CHARLOTTE McDONALD - age 69, of Maryville, passed away Monday evening, March 5, 2001, at Colonial Hills Convalescent Center, after a lengthy illness. She was a member of the Everett High School Class of 1950. She was retired from the A.C. Spark Plug Division of General Motors in Flint, Mich., where she resided for 37 years. She was of the Baptist Faith. Preceded in death by parents, Robert Finley McDonald and Ida Grindstaff McDonald; brothers, Horace McDonald, Charles F. Grindstaff, and Ben Grindstaff; sister, Nora G. Perkins. Survivors include sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Charlie Duncan; niece, Janice Duncan Ritchey and husband Harold; great nephew and niece, Matthew and Maleia Ritchey; sisters-in-law, Mrs. Horace (Ruth) McDonald and Mrs. Ben (Minnie) Grindstaff; nephew, R. L. Grindstaff; nieces, Juanita Barlow, Laura Abbott, Ruth Rolen and Dorothy Millsaps, all of Maryville. SHOUGHRUE, LAURA BAKER - age 36, of Knoxville, passed away Thursday, March 1, 2001, at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center. She was Pastry Chef at U.T., and former Bakery Manager at the Fresh Market. She attended and worked at Seymour United Methodist Church. Survivors: husband, Kelvin P. Shoughrue; sons, Shelby Martin Baker, and Devin P. Shoughrue; mother, Shelby Jean Baker; father, Charles Baker; brothers, Charles Baker, Jr., Howard and Doug Baker. Memorial service 7 p.m. Thursday, Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel with Rev. Mickey Rainwater, Pastor of Seymour United Methodist Church officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fort Sanders Development School or to East Tennessee Children's Hospital. SUMNER, MR. HARVEY B., SR. - age 77, of Sunbright, passed away Monday, March 5, 2001. He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Mrs. Pauline Nitzschke Sumner. Harvey was employed by Schubert Funeral Home for 39 years. He served as Board Member for Plateau Electric Co-op, was an active member of the Wartburg cemetery Committee, and was a Veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wartburg. He is survived by children, Harvey B. Sumner, Jr. and wife Reva, Virginia Ann Heidel and husband Chuck, Tammy Grace and husband David, Terrie Purdum, Tonia Wallace, Deland Neal Turner and wife Eva; grandchildren, Jessica and Dustin Heidel, Tonyia Steelman, Preston Purdum, Shane Grace, and Tiffany Bryant; great-grandson, Jacob Tyler Grace; sisters, Edna Huling, Audrey Taylor, and Anna Joyce Terry; brothers, Clyde Sumner, and Glen Sumner; sisters-in-law, Lola Henry and Josephine Nitzschke; brothers-in-law, Harold Nitzschke and Roger Galloway, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Special friends and co-workers, Wayne and Margaret Solomon, Doug Melton, Vic Davis and Jim Beaty. Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Anna Human Sumner; sisters, Rena Goodman and infant sister, Lillian Mae Sumner; brothers, Charles Sumner and infant brother. THOMPSON, MR. RAYMOND - age 55, of Maynardville, passed away 1:22 a.m. Monday, March 5, 2001, at St. Mary's Medical Center. A former employee of Grimes Division, Urbana, Ohio. Preceded in death by grandparents and several aunts, uncles and one niece and one nephew. Survivors: former wife of 28 years, Lillian Thompson; sons and daughters-in-law, Ray and Cindy Sparks of Maynardville, Steve and Anna Thompson of Halls; daughter, Jennifer Thompson of Maynardville; 10 grandchildren, Stephanie, Jonathon, Chrystina, Stocha, Megan, Dustin, Tyler, Alex, Kara and Logan. Survived by wife, Frances Boatman; daughter, Sandra Davis; grandchildren, Craig and Jimmy; mother, Grace Boatman of Atlanta, Ga.; 2 sisters; 3 brothers. BURLESON, HELEN JUANITA WRIGHT - age 88, of Knoxville, passed away Wednesday, March 7, 2001, at Jefferson City Health and Rehabilitation Center. She is a member of the Church of God. Preceded in death by husband, Clyde Burleson; son, Howard Clyde Burleson; parents, Clabe and Annie Wright; brothers, Frank, Ulyses, Clyde, and Jack Wright. Survivors include sister, Annie L. Ray; nieces, Betty Edmonds, Sheila Wright, Ruth Poore, Joyce McCrary, Donna Carrol, Mary Hill, Katheryn Griffin, and Diana Wheller; nephews, Jack C.
