CATHCART, FRED - age 87, of 292 Cold Stream Farm Rd., Madisonville, passed away 5:30 a.m. Thursday, March 8, 2001, at Fort Sanders Parkwest Medical Center. Member of Fork Creek Presbyterian Church, former long time member of Toqua Presbyterian Church, and a lifetime dairy farmer. Survivors: daughter and son-in-law, Milly and J. R. Bryant of Sweetwater; sons and daughters-in-law, Darrell and Bess Cathcart of Vonore, and David and Kaye Cathcart of Maryville; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister, Iva Jean Kirkland of Maryville; several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by wife, Gena Moser Cathcart; infant son, Freddie Cathcart; parents, George and Bertha Cathcart; three sisters, and one brother. CHILDRESS, CARRIE LOU PETTY - age 94, of Knoxville, passed away Wednesday, March 7, 2001, at St. Mary's Medical Center. She was a member of Wallace Memorial Baptist Church, and retired from Palm Beach Co. Preceded in death by husband, Ulyss T. Childress; parents, George and Emma Petty; brothers, Maynard, Arthur and Clyde Petty; sister, Jessie Underwood. DUGGAN, RALPH ELLIS, SR. - age 76, of Encino, Calif., formerly of Knoxville, passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2001, at Encino Hospital, following a lingering illness. He was of the Baptist faith. He served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Kearny, during World War II. Preceded in death by parents, George and Cora Hazel Anderson Duggan; brothers, William T. and Wilfred; sisters, Christine Appleby, Louise Graham, and Sadie Palmer, and grandson, Jerry William Harrison. GOLDEN, MRS. MAVELINE WILSON - age 82, of Knoxville, passed away on Wednesday, March 7, 2001, at the Ft. Sanders Medical Center. She was a member of the Grace Baptist Church and a member of the Eastern Star of Oak Ridge. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Charles Aaron Golden. She is survived by two sons, Miki Golden of Knoxville, and Dan Golden and wife Kay of Knoxville; two daughters, Sandra K. Everette of Knoxville, and Judy Bentley and husband Mickey of Austin, Texas, also Tracey Yoakum and husband Kenny of Mascot; one sister, Pauline Daniel of Hattiesburg, Miss.; grandchildren, Scott Prince, Tommy Higdon, Danny Higdon, Melissa Higdon, Miki Golden, Jr., Michele Ritter, Andrea Golden and Aaron Golden; great-great grandchildren, Amber, Haley, Austin, Christian, Sam, Christopher, Sarah, Damien; several nieces and nephews, and many other family and friends. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday with the service at 8 p.m., at the Weaver Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. Alfred T. Royer will officiate. FOX, C. STEVEN - age 48, passed away Wednesday, March 7, 2001, in Long Island, New York, after a prolonged illness with cancer. Steve graduated from Bearden High School in 1970, and served in the Vietnam War from 1971-1974. He spent most of his adult life in New York, in the restaurant business. Preceded in death by his parents, Claude T. Fox, Jr. (C.T.) and Marian Fox. Survived by brother and sisters, Tommy Fox and wife Pennie, Sharon Bailey-Brower and husband Dick, Robin Fox Irwin and husband Rick; niece, Wrenn Fox Spann and husband Britton; nephew, Ricky Irwin. A Memorial Service will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel with Rev. Buddy Sexton officiating. GRAVES, H CLAY - age 73 of Corryton, moved to his heavenly home at 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, 2001, from his farm he had tended, loved, and enjoyed his entire life. He accepted Jesus as his Savior as a young boy. He was an active member of Clear Springs Baptist Church. He was vice president and former president of Smokey Mountain Rabbit Breeders' Assoc. He has been over the Rabbit Dept. at T.V.A. & I. Fair for 36 years. He retired from KUB with 25 years of service. Preceded in death by parents, Daniel & Elizabeth Keck Graves; brother, Waldo Graves. HENDRICKSON, MELDA MARIE GILES - age 92, of Clinton, passed away March 8, 2001 at Mariner Health Care Center. She was owner and operator of the Melda Marie Beauty Shop. She retired from the County Court Clerk's Office. She was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church. She was a long time member of Timely Topics, Garden Club and Bridge Club in Clinton. She was preceded in death by parents, William and Mattie Giles; husband, Roscoe Hendrickson. Survivors include: nieces, Chloe Ann Ward of Clinton, Helen McDaniel of Arrowrock, Mo., Maritta Jones of Memphis; nephew, Paul Pearson of Clinton. HICKMAN, MARIE PRICHARD - age 77, of Athens, passed away Thursday afternoon, March 8, 2001, at Lifecare Center of Athens. A lifelong resident of McMinn County, she was the daughter of the late George M. and Nora Perkinson Prichard. She was also preceded in death by her brother, John W. Prichard. She was a member of the Fisher Street Church of God. Her professional career spanned many years in the Athens area, where she served as a Secretary with Athens Utility Board, Executive Secretary to the Athens City Manager, and Executive Secretary for the Athens Community Hospital until her retirement. She also served as secretary for the Athens Kiwanis Club for 20 years. Surviving is a son and daughter-in-law, Darrell E. and Patricia Hickman of Memphis; a sister, Alma Webb of Athens; two grandsons, Kenneth Lee (Kenny) and William Robert (Will) Hickman; three nieces, Donzella Shell, Beverly Lattimore, and Linda Morrow; one nephew, Wayne Prichard. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in the Chapel of Jerry Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Roy Chism officiating. A private burial will follow in the Cedar Grove cemetery. JACKSON, FRANCES OCTOBER - age 85, of Coalfield, passed away Thursday, March 8, 2001, at the Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Mrs. Jackson was a member of the Middle Creek Baptist Church in Coalfield. She belonged to the Coalfield Senior Citizens and the Morgan County Democratic Club. Mrs. Jackson was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Ellen Ruffner; her husband, Oscar Jackson; three brothers, Leonard Ruffner, Gerald Ruffner, and Doyle Ruffner; four sisters, Cecil England, Carrie Jackson, Lora Scarbrough, and Wilma Tucker. Mrs. Jackson is survived by one son, Jerry Jackson and wife Brenda of Coalfield; one daughter, Kathryn Shepherd and husband Kyle of Clinton. Mrs. Jackson is survived by two granddaughters, Kandi Alderson and husband Mark of Clinton, and Janet Roberts and husband Brian of Coalfield. Mrs. Jackson is survived by three great-grandchildren, Katie Alderson, Johnathan Alderson of Clinton, and Matthew Roberts of Coalfield. Funeral service will be at 8 p.m. Friday, March 9, at the Oliver Springs Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Luther Massengale, the Rev. Mark Hester, and the Rev. Ronald Guthrie officiating. KING, CLIFTON KENNETH "C.K." - age 71 of Clinton, passed away Wednesday, March 7, 2001 at the Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge. Mr. King, a life long resident of Clinton, was born September 30, 1929 at was a 1949 graduate of Clinton High School He was the son of the late Clifton Willis King & Lillie Melton King. In addition to his parents, a sister, Dean King Lawson, preceded him in death. He was an antique car enthusiast and a long standing member of the Antique Automobile Club of America, and an active participant in both the Clinton Region and Walden Ridge Region groups. Mr. King served as the first president of the Clinton Car Club. A retired supervisor from Martin Mareitta Energy Systems, he worked at both the Y-12 and K-25 Plants. Mr. King was a member of Clinton First Baptist Church. Mr. King was an enthusiastic photographer, capturing snapshots nearly everywhere he went, of his high school days in the late 40's, family life, the changing face of his hometown and every shiny classic car he ever owned or admired. Mr. King was a United States Air Force veteran who served from 1950-1953, stationed at Warner Robbins in Ga. and Goosebay, Labrador. Trips to Casablanca, Morocco and London, England whetted an appetite for travel and he encouraged a curiosity about locales near and far with his family his entire life. Survivors: wife of 44 years, Anna Belle of Clinton; son, Kenneth D. "Kenny" King of Clinton; daughter, Carol Anne King of Nashville; nephews, Rob & Gus Lawson both of Chattanooga, John Lawson of Memphis; special aunts, Helen Webber & Mildred Shultz, both of Clinton; sister in law, Eva Kelly Cornett of Fruitland Park, Fla.; numerous cousins. The family will receive friends 6-8:30 p.m. Saturday March 10, 2001, at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with funeral service following at 8:30 p.m. in the chapel with Rev. Terry Baker & Rev. Sam Dean officiating. Interment icon will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Sunset cemetery with Dr. Paul Frick officiating. KING, VIOLET MURPHY - age 68, of Speedwell, passed away Wednesday, March 7, at Claiborne County Hospital and Nursing Home, Tazewell. She was of the Church of God faith. Preceded in death by husband, Harold King. Survivors: daughter, Flora Lorrine Couchot, Pique, Ohio; sons, Carl King, Lima, Ohio, Wayne King, Sidney, Ohio; 4 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. LONG, JOSEPH BRADFORD, SR. (JOE B.) - age 75 of the Dutch Valley Community of Clinton, Tenn., passed away on March 7, 2001, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Mr. Long was self-employed for many years as owner of Long Construction Company and also owned and operated a sawmill and lumber business. He later became a supervisor for the Tenn. Department of transportation for Anderson County. He was elected Anderson County Road Superintendent in 1982 and served 11 years before his retirement in 1993. In previous years, Mr. Long also loved farming and raising cattle. Survivors: wife of 56 years, Hazel Irene Lindsay Long of the Dutch Valley Community; seven children include; Geraldine and husband, Jerry White, Sr., Lorene and husband, Roger White, Sr. & Glenna McGhee all of Clinton; Wanda and husband, Robert Schweigel of Orlando, Fla.; sons, Joseph Bradford Long, Jr., Gary and wife Phyllis Long, and Larry Long all of Clinton. Mr. Long is also survived by twelve grandchildren, Jerry White, Jr., David White, Michael White, Sandy White, Roger White, Jr., Bryan White, Brad White, Ginger McGhee-Tomlin, Dawn McGhee, A.J. Long, Harmony Long and Jessica Long; two great grandchildren, Dalton White and Johathan McClure; also a brother, Bill Long of Clinton; and sisters, Lorene Holbrook and Laura Justice of Ind.; several nieces, nephews and a host of other family members and friends. Preceded in death by parents, the late Robert Walker and Minnie Grubb Long; brothers, James, John, Tom and Sam Long; sisters, Bernice Kanipes, Etta Jones, Latter Freels, Ella Leinart, Delberta Wilson, and Julie Scarbrough.
