Funeral services will be Monday 8 p.m. at Berry Chapel with Rev. I.A. Sparks officiating. Interment icon will be Tuesday 10 a.m. at Mt. Olive cemetery. Family will receive friends Monday from 7-8 p.m. at Berry Funeral Home Chapman Hwy.

HICKS, EDITH SMELCER - age 75 of Seymour died Saturday April 7, 2001. She was a member of Seven Island Missionary Baptist Church and a resident of Sevier County Healthcare Center. She was preceded in death by husband, John Robert Hicks, Sr.; brother, Eugene Smelcer. Survivors: sons, Chris Hicks & wife, Dilza, Robert Hicks & girl friend, Angel, David Hicks & wife, Kim; daughter, Faye Teets & husband, Mark; grandchildren, Rhonda Long, Ashley Teets, Stacy League, Christi Helton, Jamie Cordell, Andrew Hicks, Alain Hicks, Bruce Sprowl, Brian Sprowl; 5 great grandchildren; brothers, Edward Smelcer, Olin Smelcer; sisters, Imogene Shultz, Odessa Hall. JOHNSON, RICHARD STANLEY - age 70, formerly of Knoxville, passed away Thursday April 5, 2001 in Desert Hot Springs, Calif. He was a former member of Kirk Hills Presbyterian Church in Knoxville and presently a member of Community Church in Desert Hot Springs; also a former member of American Legion Post #2 in Knoxville and a present member of Post #763 in Calif., former employee of TVA and a concessionaire worker at UT football games. Preceded in death by parents, Walter & Lillie Johnson; sister, June McCaleb. Survived by wife, Mary Davies Johnson; daughters, Vicki Johnson of Knoxville & Frances Johnson of Desert Hot Springs, Calif.; sister, Colleen Davis of Kissimmee, Fla., nieces, Wilma Al-Hashim Cheryl Slaydon, Terri Jarnigan and Eleanor Bodden; nephews, Brian & Bruce Bradford, Hutch & Lloyd Jarnigan. Family and friends will meet at Woodlawn cemetery 2 p.m. Wednesday for a graveside service, Rev. Robert Davis officiating. Military honors will be provided by East Tennessee Veterans Honor Guard. KEITH, HELEN BRYAN - age 85 of Knoxville, passed away Saturday April 7, 2001 at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center. Member of Third Creek Baptist Church, former member of Bells Campground Baptist Church. Preceded in death by husbands, Jesse P. Bryan and Samuel H. Keith, and brother, Clay M. Wright. Survivors: sister in law, June Wright; several nieces and nephews and cousins. Memorial service 7 p.m. Tuesday Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel, Rev. Jimmy Stroud officiating. Interment icon was private. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Knoxville Rescue Mission or Third Creek Baptist Church. The family will receive friends 6-7 p.m. Tuesday at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel.

LEMONS, MS. CAROL - 48 of Harriman died Saturday April 7, 2001 in her home. The family will receive friends Monday April 9, 2001 from 6-8 p.m. at Big Emory Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 8 p.m. with Rev. David Harmon officiating. Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. Oak Grove cemetery in Rockwood.

MANNING, FRANCES LINDSEY - age 79 of Squire Fox Rd. Dandridge passed away Friday April 6, 2001. Funeral services, Monday 8 p.m. at Farrar Dandridge Chapel. MOORE, DAVID - age 60 of Heiskell, passed away Thursday morning at UT Hospital. Preceded in death by parents, Jack & Susan Moore and brother, Joe Moore. NORWOOD, HELEN KATHLEEN (KITTEN) - age 76 of Sweetwater, formerly of Madisonville, died April 7, 2001 in Sweetwater Valley Convalescent Home. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Madisonville where she taught Sunday school for 43 years. Preceded in death by parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles C. Norwood; brothers, Eldon, Larry and Clifford Norwood. Survivors: sisters in law, Katherine Norwood, Sweetwater, Barbara Norwood, Dallas, Ga.; niece and nephew in law, Christy and James Cozart, Jr. Sweetwater; nephews, W.L. Snyder, Knoxville, Tommy Welch, Dallas, Ga.; great nieces, Mariah Cozart, Danielle Welch. OLDHAM, DOROTHY BAKER - age 94 of Knoxville, passed away Sunday April 8, 2001 at St. Mary's Hospital. A member of First Christian Church and the Second Milers Sunday school class, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie Oldham; parents, Thomas and Willie Lee Baker; brother, Tom Baker; sister, Laverta Taylor. She is survived by sisters, Mildred Baker and Genevieve Woolsey; nephews, Guy and Ronald Taylor. Family and friends will meet at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday at the entrance to Lynnhurst cemetery for a graveside service at 2 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. John Moore officiating. PACK, RONALD LEE (LEE) - age 20 passed away on Friday April 6, 2001 at UT Hospital. He was born on August 17, 1980 and is the son of Robert Lee Pack, Jr. and Charlotte Kay Pack. He is preceded in death by grandfather, William C. Brooks, Sr. and grandmother, Eloise M. Brooks. Mr. Pack was of the Baptist faith. He is survived by his parents, Robert Lee Pack, Jr. and Charlotte Kay Pack; brother, Bobby Joe Pack; grandmother, Iva Hurley and grandfather, Dallas Kent Hurley; 7 aunts; 7 uncles; also abundance of cousins and friends. Burial will be held on Monday April 9, 2001 at the Asbury cemetery. Everyone will meet at the cemetery 1:30 p.m. for the graveside. Pallbearers will be, Dallas K. Hurley, II, Darrell D. PETREE, EVELYN - age 69 of Knoxville passed away Sunday April 8, 2001 at UT Hospital. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel.

PHILLIPS, ESTELL - age 92 of Knoxville died 2:20 a.m. Saturday, April 7, 2001 at St. Mary's Hospice. Member of Northside Baptist Church. Preceded in death by wives, Etta Mae Stansbury Phillips and Zola Norris Phillips. Survivors: daughters, Mary Gray and Marie Mullins both of Knoxville, Carolyn Hounschell of Ga.; sons, James A. Phillips of Mo. and Eugene Phillips of Lenior City, Tenn.; 21 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; and 14 great-great grandchildren; sister, Virginia Dykes of Cleveland. Funeral service 8 p.m. Monday at Steven Mortuary Chapel. Rev. Ted Phillips officiating. Family and friends will meet at Bookwalter cemetery on Tuesday at 9:45 p.m. for a 10 a.m. graveside service and interment. Pallbearers will be grandsons. PRICE, MR. ROBERT (BOB) LEE - age 76 of Knoxville, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, departed peacefully at St. Mary's Medical Center on April 8th 9:30 a.m. He served in the US Army and was a proud WWII veteran, storming the beaches of Normandy. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 35 years, Mrs. Ruby Price; daughters, Sydney and Jim Post, Cathy Presley, and Lisa Price; step daughters, Denise and Tommy Hooks, Sherri and Arthur Yessayan, and Gina Donavan; 9 grandchildren, Marie, Brad, Jessica, Destin, Justin, Lauren, Roffi, Savannah, and Hannah. Funeral services are incomplete and will be announced later by the Weaver Funeral Home 5815 Western Ave. Knoxville, Tenn.

RICHESIN, FRANCINE BOYD - age 56 of Sweetwater, passed away Saturday, April 6, 2001, after a lengthy illness. She was a member of the Murray's Baptist Church, where she served as Church Clerk, Sunday school teacher, a very dedicated Christian lady. Preceded in death by parents, James and Hattie Boyd; sister, Elenora Wilkes; brothers, Dewey Boyd, Olen Boyd, and James Boyd, Jr. Survivors include: husband of 38 years, Carl "Buddy" Richesin; son & daughter in law, Carl A. "Bud" and Sheri Richesin, III; grandchildren, Tyler and Trevor Richesin all of Sweetwater; sisters, Lorene Foster Plemons of Chattanooga, Vonita Ritchie of Merritt Island, Fla.; mother in law, Mabel Richesin of Sweetwater; several nieces and nephews. The body is at Kyker Funeral Home, Sweetwater, where the family will receive friends Monday from 6-8 p.m. with the funeral service to follow at 8 p.m. in Kyker's chapel with Rev. Joe Caldwell, Rev. Bobby Lawson, and Rev. John Smith officiating. Interment icon 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Murray's Baptist Church cemetery. Memorials may be made to Murray's Baptist Church.

SPARKS, ROGER LEE - age 51 of Maryville passed away Sunday afternoon April 8, 2001 at the family home. Preceded in death by father, Eugene L. Sparks; nephew, Samuel Earl Sparks. Survivors: mother, Elizabeth Lane Sparks of Maryville; brother & sister in law, Robert & Judy Sparks of Maryville; nephews, Terry Sparks, Rodney Mason, Lennie Mason; niece, Tisha Housley of Maryville. WELCH, MRS. JEAN - age 76 of Tazewell, Tenn. was born November 3, 1924 at Lutesville, Mo. and passed away April 7, 2001 at St. Mary's Medical Center. She was a member of the New Tazewell United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her father, Chauncey Ricketts; sister, Wanda Lee Chandler; brother, Harold Ray Ricketts. She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Bryan L. Welch of Tazewell, Tenn.; mother, Alpha Ricketts of Marble Hill, Mo.; sons and daughters in law, Ronald J. and Diane Welch of Tazewell, Tenn., Richard L. and Margaret Welch of Tazewell, Tenn.; granddaughters, Mrs. Brian (Michele) Hubbard of Tazewell, Tenn., Mrs. Bo (Laura) Helton of Tazewell, Tenn., Ms. Emily Welch of Tazewell, Tenn.; grandson, Lane Welch of Tazewell, Tenn.; sisters, Mrs. Wm. UNDERWOOD, IRENE T. CAWOOD RAPER - age 78 of Knoxville, born Jan. 13, 1923 in Campbell County, Tenn. passed on to be with her heavenly Father at 3:50 p.m. April 7, 2001 at her home after a short but courageous battle with cancer. Member of Clear Springs Baptist Church. Retired supervisor from Palm Beach Co. after 45 years service. Preceded in death by parents, William (Bill) & Lillie Cawood; sister, Thelma Huffman; and husbands, J.D. Raper and Don Underwood. Survivors: daughter & son in law, Ginger & Harry Cameron; special grandson & wife, Chuck & Karen Wright; grandson & wife, Chris & Kim Wright; granddaughter & husband, Cara & Doug Adams; great grandchildren, Caitlyn Wright, Brandon & Cheyanne Adams, Will Wright; brother & sister in law, former County Commissioner, Jess & Cindy Cawood; sister, Loma Black; several nieces and nephews, and many friends. BALL, ELIZABETH "BETTY" - passed away on Sunday, April 8, 2001, at Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge, after a lengthy illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. and Mrs. Robert P. Ball, and her brother, Robert Ball. She is survived by her nephew, Robert Ball and his wife, Elizabeth and their daughter, Alexandria. Betty was born in Chattanooga, Tenn., and spent her early years in New York City, where she graduated from Nightingale Banford School for Girls. She attended Louisiana State University and the University of North Carolina, where she received her Bachelor's Degree. She did graduate work at the University of Michigan, and the University of Tennessee. Betty was in the United States Army from 1959 until 1974, serving in various posts in the United States and overseas. She achieved the rank of major and was a Reserve Officer until her retirement. She was an avid bridge player and world traveler. She was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority, the Pilot Club International, the Oak Ridge Art Guild, the Reserve Officers Association, and the Daughters of the American Revolution. A graveside service, for family members only, will be held on Wednesday morning. There will be a reception for friends and neighbors at the Oak Ridge Retirement Center from 4-5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 11. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Mrs. Lee Costanzo, 103 Case Lane, Oak Ridge, TN 37830.

BAYLESS, LEON C. - age 88, of Halls, passed away Sunday, April 8, 2001, at U. T. Medical Center. Member of Sharon Baptist Church. Preceded in death by beloved wife of 69 years, Eva W. Bayless. Owned and operated Bayless Service Station for 47 years and operated school buses for several years. Survivors: son and daughter-in-law, David and Joyce Bayless; daughters and son-in-law, Pat and Tom Rogers, and Judy Gilbert; grandchildren, William and Maleah Bayless, Chris and Cindy Bayless, Terry and Terri Lee Bayless, Debbie and Mike Harbin, Mark Rogers, Jeff Gilbert, and Laura Lickliter; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Family and friends will leave Rose Mortuary at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday for graveside service at 1 p.m. in Highland Memorial cemetery, Dr. James Robertson and Dr. Charles Earl officiating.
