She was a charter member of Cumberland Baptist Church, and a charter member, board member, and medical adviser for the Lupus Foundation of America Inc., East Tennessee Chapter. Mrs. Coffey was preceded in death by her father, H.F. Grovenstein, and one son, David Coffey. She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Rosa Lee Grovenstein of Knoxville; her husband, Mr. Richard Coffey of Kodak; one son, Larry Coffey, and wife Najeeba of Kodak; one daughter, Joy Halbrook, and special friend Larry Alexander of Knoxville; two grandchildren, Emily Halbrook and John Coffey; one brother, Eddie Grovenstein of Knoxville; one sister, Terri Hix of Riverside, Calif. The family will receive friends on Sunday at the Cumberland Baptist Church, 5600 Western Ave., from 1-3 p.m. with service at 3 p.m. The Rev. Jeff Lane will officiate. Burial will be at 1 p.m. on Monday at the Highland Memorial cemetery on Sutherland Ave. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be her Sunday School Class, the Friendship Class. COX, MARY HELEN PARTON - age 77, of Knoxville, passed away Thursday, April 19, 2001 at St. Mary's Medical Center. She retired from Norwood Medical Clinic. Preceded in death by parents; one brother; one sister; and husband, Charles E. Cox. Survived by one son, David Eugene Cox and wife, Lisa of Moline, Ill.; two daughters, Sandra Nelson of Powell and Lynn Raiteri and husband, Mark of Beaufort, SC; grandchildren, Stacy Sharp, Kristie Nelson, Gavin, Kent and Ashley Raiteri, Clinton, Tyler, and Brandon Cox; great grandchildren, Sarah, Autumn, and Catherine Sharp, Desiree', Kara and Adaijah Raiteri; brother, Bobby Parton and wife, Doris of Knoxville; good friend and sister in law, Audrey V. Cox of Cullowhee, NC Memorial service at 4 p.m. Sunday Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel with Reverend Wayne Hubbs officiating. CROFT, IDA MAE - age 84 of 158 McClellan Road, Madisonville, passed away 11:20 p.m. Friday April 20, 2001 at Sweetwater Hospital. Member of New Bethel Church of God. Survivors: daughters & sons in law, Cora & John Bolix, Dorothy & Troy Goodman, all of Madisonville; Stella Rose, Decatur; sons & daughters in law, James & Sally Croft, Paducah, Ky., William & Barbara Croft, Calhoun, Ga.; 9 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; brothers, Erskin, David & Wilford Bookout, all of Madisonville; several nieces and nephews. DALTON, KATHRYN JANETTE (CAMERON) - age 75, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday April 19, 2001. She was from Morristown, but she had been a resident of Mariner Health of Newport for almost 11 years. Mrs. Dalton was a long time member of Calvue Baptist Church. She was a loving mother and grandmother with many friends and relatives. Mrs. Dalton was preceded in death by her husband, Mack Henry Dalton; parents, Sam and Emma Cameron; and brother, Carrol Cameron. Survivors: daughters and sons in law, Judy and Larry Price of Russellville and Kathy and Gary Holt of Newport; grandchildren, Amanda Holt and fiancé, J.W. Hale, And Neil Price; sister, Velma Human and brother, Earl Cameron both of Rutledge; sister in law, Pearl Dalton of Rutledge; several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday (today) April 22, 2001 at New Blackwell Baptist Church in Grainger County with Rev. Elmer Lampkin and Rev. Bob Zavattieri officiating. DUBBS, LOUISE DUGGAN - age 85, passed away April 18, 2001. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Sevierville and a retired principal from the Broward Florida School System. She was preceded in death by her husband, William L. Dubbs, Jr. She is survived by her loving son, William Lincoln Dubbs, III; grandson, Brian J. Dubbs; granddaughter, Angela M. Haywood; sister, Beulah Linn; sister, Helen Duggan; and nieces and nephews. "those of us who have had the privilege of knowing you rather intimately, look almost with envy at what you have accomplished during your teaching at Cooper City Elementary School. It is not often given to one individual to do so much for the children of our school as you have been able to do. Perhaps it is truer to say it is rare to find in one person the vision to plan intelligently for the future and at the same time to interest her fellow citizens in making the school a better place for our children. But that is exactly what we have found in you. It must give you great satisfaction to know that because you have dreamed of a better planned and more beautiful school, others are always trying to make it so. You must also rejoice at the affectionate tribute from your students for your untiring service in our school these many years." (written by mother of one of her students.) EDWARDS, HERMAN LEE - age 86 of Louisville, died Thursday April 19, 2001 at Brakebill Nursing Home. He was a member of West End Church of Christ. He was retired from Post Sign Company with over 30 years of service. Preceded in death by son, Benjamin (Tom) Edwards on April 3, 2001. Survivors: wife of 65 years, Beulah Akins Edwards; son and daughter in law, Foy W. and Charleene Edwards, all of Louisville; grandchildren, Evon Hulse and husband, Dr. Russell Hulse of San Antonio, TX, Mark Ballard of Knoxville; several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to all his many friends and the staff of Brakebill Nursing Home for their love and care. ENGLAND, EUDELLE BLOOMER - 85 of Kingsport, quietly passed away Friday April 20, 2001 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following a brief illness. Born in Fairview Community of Scott County, Va. she had been a resident of Kingsport for over 60 years. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister. She also was an avid gardener. Mrs. England was of the Methodist faith. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jess and Army Bloomer; husband, Elmer England; a son, Donnie England; a grandson, Nathan England; three sisters, Mona Stapleton, Elsie McMillan, Hazel Garber; a brother, Ora Bloomer; and a daughter in law, Angela Christian England. Surviving are three sons, Leon England and wife, Karen, Tony England and wife, Linda all of Kingsport, Tommy England and wife, Mary, Knoxville; one daughter, Sabra Eanes and husband, John; a daughter in law, Shirley England Bellamy, Surgoinsville; a sister, Doris A. Blooomer, Kingsport; a brother, J.B. Bloomer, Kingsport; fifteen grandchildren, Tony S. England, Melanie Taylor, Jeff England, Kellye Dulaney, Chris England, Kip England, Ben England, Ali England, Seth England, Holly Eanes, Heath Eanes, Laura Eanes, K.P. Brown, Rachel Brown and Lori Kauppi; eight great grandchildren, Erika Qualls, Blakely England, Kassie England, Kelsie Dulaney, Abby England, Kahmill Dulaney, Korrie Dulaney and Grayson England; several nieces and nephews. Calling hours are from 5-8 p.m. Sunday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport. Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor Frank Crawford officiating. Burial will follow in East Lawn Memorial Park Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. GARDNER, NORMAN FRANKLIN, JR. (BUTCH) - age 49 of Knoxville, passed away Thursday, April 19, 2001 at his home. Member of Bethel United Methodist Church. Retired employee of Lockheed Martin Y-12 Plant. S/SGT in US Air Force for 4 years. Preceded in death by wife, Terri Lynn Folden Gardner. Survived by daughter, Emily Gardner; son, Norman (B.J.) Gardner II; parents, Norman & Juanita Gardner; sister, Carol Johnson, Lisa Noojin; brother, Homer Gardner; special friends, Jacob Foltz-Gray and Tobis Queen; several nieces and nephews. GRANDADE, HERMAS - 93 of Knoxville, Tenn. formerly of Camden, died Friday April 20, 2001. Born in Brilliant, Ala. he was the son of the late John and Belle Granade. Mr. Granade was the widower of the late Lenora Rhame Granade. He was retired as County Agent from the Soil Conservation Service. Mr. Granade was noted for growing prize winning roses and generously sharing them with the community. He was a member of Lyttleton Street Methodist Church. Surviving are his son, Dr. Hugh R. Granade and his wife, Elaine, of Knoxville, Tenn.; 2 grandsons, Hugh Granade, II and his wife, Kristin of Morris Plains, NJ and Grant Granade of Calabash, NC; 1 granddaughter, Leigh Gleason of Knoxvlle, Tenn.; 3 great grandsons, Michael, Mark and Matthew Granade, all of Morris Plains, NJ; 4 sisters, Lillian Carnes and Mary Owsley, both of Birmingham, Ala., Evelyn Williams of Andalusia, Ala. and Mildred Barber of Haleyville, Ala.; 3 sisters in law, Mrs. Boykin Rhame of Camden, Mrs. Robert Rhame, of Charleston and Mrs. John C. West of Hilton Head, SC. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday April 23, 2001 at Lyttleton Street United Methodist Church with burial in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the residence of John C. West, 601 Black River Rd. Camden. Memorials may be made to the Lenora R. HARRISON, FRED J. - age 51 of West Knoxville, formerly of Kingsport, passed away April 16, 2001, surrounded by his family and friends. Fred was the loving husband of Mary Ann; proud father of Andrew, Patrick, Daniel Colleen and her husband, Dan; other survivors include parents, William and Emilia Winiarski Harrison of Kingsport; sisters and brothers in law, Christine and Ken Dwyer of Orlando, Fla., Margaret and Ken Wolfe and nephew, Benjamin Wolfe of Villa Hills, Ky. Fred's family would like to give special thanks to Gary, Ira, Mike and also the UT Oncology and Hospice Staffs. The family will receive friends on Monday April 23 from 5-9 p.m. with a scripture service at 8:30 p.m. at All Saints Catholic Church on Cedar Bluff Road. HEWITT, CHARLES T. - age 50, passed away on Friday April 20, 2001 at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. He is survived by his wife, Marcia; 2 children, Thomas and Lisa; his mother, Constance Hewitt; sister, Helen Hewitt; brother, John Hewitt; mother in law, Marion Talbot; brothers and sisters in law, Lawrence (Katherine) Talbot, and Daniel (Kathleen) Mink. He was preceded n death by his father, John Hewitt. HILL, MARY LEE SEYMOUR - of North Knoxville, died 12:30 a.m. Friday April 20, 2001 at NHC Northhaven. She was a member of Lincoln Park Baptist Church and the Friendly Bible Class. Retired from the Standard Knitting Mills. Preceded in death by parents, Pryor and Susan Seymour; sisters, Vada McDaniel and Stella Davis. Survivors; brother, Kenneth Seymour, Knoxville; several nieces and nephews. HODGES, JAMES EDGAR - age 87 of route 3 Oakland Community, Rutledge, passed away at 3 a.m. Saturday morning, April 21, 2001 at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Jefferson City following an extended illness. Edgar was a lifelong member of the Oakland Baptist Church where he had served in the capacity of Deacon,Trustee and Sunday school teacher. He was a retried employee of the Appalachian Electric Coop. after 33 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Ethel Seymour Hodges; brothers, Edward, Conard, Robert, Charles, and Billy Lee Hodges. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Mary Davis Hodges of the home; daughter and son in law, David and Linda Hodges of Rutledge; beloved granddaughter, Jill Hodges of Rutledge; sister, Rena Hayes of Benton, Tenn.; brothers and sisters in law, Ewin and Dean Hodges of Rutledge and J.A. and Kathryn Hodges of Rutledge; and several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. MADGETT, MARY A. RANDLES - age 88 of Knoxville, died Friday April 20, 2001. She was a member of Roseberry Baptist Church. Mrs. Madgett was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence E. Madgett; infant daughter, Sarah Elizabeth; brothers, Homer, Edward E., Ralph & Oley; and sister, Blanche. She is survived by nieces & nephews, Helen Randles of Knoxville, Newell Randles of Chester, Va., John Randles of Fla., Pauline Garrett, Jack C. Randles of Maryland, Mary Lou Bothe of Fla.; special niece, Nina Madgett of Knoxville, Kyle Madgett of Calif., Phyllis Ely, Helen Deford, Mary Lee Phillips, Evelyn Underwood, Glenn, Robert, Carl & Grady Madgett all of Knoxville. McCARTER, MARK LOWRY - age 84, passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2001, at St. Mary's Residential Hospice. He was born on the 4th of July, 1916, in Piedmont, Jefferson County, Tenn. Mr. McCarter was an active member of First Baptist Church on Main Street for many years. A Veteran of World War II, having served with the U. S. Army, Company D, 66th Ordinance Battalion at Ft. Dix and 3404th Ordinance Battalion in Iceland. Employed for many years by Tennessee Coach Co., and later Trailways Bus Lines, from which he retired. He was an avid student of Tennessee and Civil War History, and was proud of his Southern Highlander Heritage. A member of Charles McKinney Lodge and American Legion Post #2, for more than 50 years. Preceded in death by his father, Dr. Thomas L. McCarter; mother, Mary Meadows McCarter; brother, Chauncey D. McCarter, and beloved first wife, Anna Collins McCarter. Survivors: devoted wife, Willie Mae Owens Collins McCarter; son, Stephen L. McCarter; step daughter, Patricia Collins Ericson and her children, Bradley M. Fairris and Alicia G. Petrone; four step great-grandchildren, Avery and Hannah Petrone, Schuylar and Caleb Fairris; special sister-in-law, Francis R. McCarter, and several nieces and nephews. Interment icon 10 a.m. Sat. at the National cemetery with Military Honors by the East TN Honor Guard. McDONALD, DAVID MICHAEL, Ph.D. - 47, transitioned into wholeness on Tuesday April 17 at Vanderbilt Medical Center surrounded by the light and love of family and friends. He was a professor at Lincoln Memorial University, known as a man of kindness and humor. His wife, Dr. Janet Taylor; daughter, Karen McDonald; step children, Noah & Shinara Taylor are holding a service in his memory at Miller's Chapel United Methodist Church in Maynardville, Tenn. on Saturday April 28th from 4-6 p.m. All whose lives were positively touched by David are invited to attend.
